The frequency of underweight in children with cerebral palsy is about 60–70%. A benefit of nutritional support in children with cerebral palsy are underestimated. The use of nutritional support during active physical rehabilitation can have a positive effect on not only body weight, but also the component composition of the body and their rehabilitation potential. The aim of our study was to evaluate the effectiveness of nutritional support – a hypercaloric (1,5 kcal/ml) polymer formula with fibers (Pediashure 1,5 Fiber, Abbott) in children with cerebral palsy.Characteristics of children and research methods. Anthropometric indicators (body weight, height, body mass index, triceps skinfold thickness, subscapular skinfold thickness, mid-upper arm circumference, shoulder muscle circumference) and body composition were studied in 15 underweight children with cerebral palsy aged 4–10 years with the level of motor disorders GMFCSIII–IV. They were prescribed of nutritional support with a hyper caloric mixture (1,5kcal/ml) with fiber lasting 3months during active physical rehabilitation.Results. Against the background of nutritional support, there was a significant increase in body weight, height, z-score of body weight, mainly due to musculoskeletal, active cell and lean mass. In addition to correcting the nutritional status of children with cerebral palsy, an improvement in their motor abilities was noted.

AbstractThe aim of this study was to assess the liver stiffness values in children with obesity versus healthy children on 2D-SWE and TE taking into account different laboratory parameters. We performed a case-control study on 287 children aged between 3 to 18 years, admitted in a Romanian Pediatric Tertiary Hospital, which we divided according to the body mass index (BMI) into two groups: the study group-77 children with obesity, and control group-210 children with normal weight. All children underwent anamnesis, clinical exam, laboratory parameters, ultrasound exam, and elastography. Children with obesity presented higher values of platelets, AST, ALT, and AAR as compared to control group (p = 0.0005/p = 0.0065/p < 0.0001/p < 0.0001). We found no significant differences for APRI between the two groups (p = 0.9827), although the values were higher in children with obesity. Significantly higher values of liver stiffness in children with obesity on both 2D-SWE and TE (p = 0.0314/p < 0.0001) were obtained. Similarly, the velocity values measured by 2D-SWE were also significantly higher in the study group (p < 0.0001). Our findings revealed significantly higher levels of platelets, transaminases, AAR, and liver stiffness values on both TE and 2D-SWE in children with obesity. 2D-SWE and TE might represent useful non-invasive methods for predicting liver impairment associated to pediatric obesity.

Introduction Ventricular septal defect (VSD) is an opening in the interventricular septum. 30-50% of patients with congenital heart disease have VSD. Objective The aim of the study was to determine the dependence of the left ventricular diastolic dimension (LVD), left ventricular systolic dimension (LVS), shortening fraction (SF), left atrium (LA), pulmonary artery truncus (TPA) on the body surface and compare their values among experimental, control and a group of healthy children. Values of maximal systolic gradient pressure (Pvsd) of VSD were compared with children from one experimental and control group. Method Children were divided into three groups: experimental (32 children with VSD that were to go to surgery), control (20 children with VSD who did not require surgery) and 40 healthy children. Measurements of LVD, LVS, SF, LA, TPA were performed in accordance to recommendations of the American Echocardiographic Association. The value of Pvsd was calculated from the maximal flow velocity (V) in VSD using the following formula: Pvsd=4xV? (mm Hg). Results For children from the experimental group, the relationship between the body surface and the variability of the LVD was explained with 56.85%, LVS with 66.15%, SF with 4.9%, TPA with 58.92%. For children from the control group, the relationship between the body surface and the variability of LVD was explained with 88.8%, LVS with 72.5%, SF with 0.42%, PA with 58.92%. For healthy children, the relationship between the body surface and the variabilitiy of the LVD was explained with 88.8%, LVS with 88.78%, SF with 5.25% and PA with 84.75%. There was a significant statistical difference between average values of Pvsd in the experimental and control group (p<0.02). Conclusion The presence of the large VSD has an influence on the enlargement of LVD, LVS, SF, TPA. The enlargement of the size of the pulmonary artery depends on the presence of VSD and there is a direct variation in the magnitude of the shunt. There is a relationship and significant dependence of the LVS and LVD on the body surface. There is no statistically significant dependence between SF and body surface.

Congenital heart defects (CHD) are the leading pathologies among all congenital malformations and fetal development abnormalities. It is known that the teratogenic effect of xenobiotic will be maximally presented in the case of disturbed immune interactions in the mother-embryo system. It has been repeatedly shown that the female homozygous genotype HLA-G 3UTR 14-bp ins/ins is associated with reproductive losses. The purpose of this study was to study the distribution of alleles and genotypes of xenobiotic biotransformation genes in women with children with CHD, carriers of variant HLA-G 3UTR 14-bp ins/del genotypes. Material and method: It was examined 103 women whose children had a ventricular septal defect (VSD) without chromosomal diseases and a pedigree history at birth, and 103 women (control group) who gave birth to two or more healthy children. The typing of polymorphic sites of the genes HLA-G 3UTR 14-bp ins/del, GSTM1 (rs74837985), CYP1A1 (rs1048943) CYP1A2 (rs35694136, rs762551) GSTT1 (rs2266633, rs2266637, rs2234953) GSTP1 (rs6591256, rs1695, rs1871042, rs1793068), GATA 6 (rs10454095) was performed by the RT-PCR method. Mathematical processing was carried out using the application software STATISTICA 8.0 (StatSoftInc., USA) and SNPstats. Results: It was shown that the heterozygous genotypes GSTP1 (rs6591256) A / G (p0.01, OR5.1 (2.5710.27)), GSTP (rs1793068) G / T (p0.01, OR5.1 (2.5710.27)), CYP1A2 (rs762551) A/C (p0.01, OR6.81 (3.3513.73)) and the homozygous minor genotype GSTP1 (rs1871042) T/T (p0.001, OR7.32 (3.6214.76) ) were statistically significantly more frequent in the main group of women who are carriers of the homozygous genotype 14-bp ins/ins HLA-G 3UTR, in comparison with the control group. In the main group of women G/G rs74837985 GSTM1 statistically significantly less (p0.01, OR0.20 (0.060.59)) was found in carriers of 14-bp ins / ins HLA-G 3UTR, in comparison with carriers of the heterozygous genotype 14-bp ins/del HLA-G 3UTR. Conclusion: It was found that with the simultaneous carrier of the mutant alleles of HLA-G and the genes of the xenobiotics transformation system, the risk of having children with VSD is higher, compared with the carriage of isolated mutations.

Abstract Background Nutritional status is an important indicator for measuring quality of life in children. A region that is recovering from war will face many problems related to nutrition. Very few studies have addressed the nutritional problems in school-going children. This study was undertaken to identify the prevalence of wasting, stunting and obesity of school children from Northern Sri Lanka and associated socio-demographic factorsMethods A community based cross-sectional study was carried out using multistage stratified proportionate cluster among healthy children attending schools in the Northern part of the country. Height and weight were measured and the Body Mass Index (BMI) was calculated [weight (kg)/Height (m) ²]. BMI-for-age z-score (BAZ) and Height for age Z (HAZ) scores were determined and WHO growth references were used to categorise the nutritional status of the children. Correlation between various nutritional problems with Maternal education, household income, number of family members and the residential area was assessed. Results A total of 1012 children were recruited, and the mean age and standard deviation were 11.12±1.77yrs. Girls in the age ranges of 9-14 were heavier and taller when compared to the boys compatible to the pubertal growth spurt. Stunting based on the height for age was seen in 10.9% of boys and 11.8% of girls. Wasting based on BMI for age WHO standard (WHO 2007) was seen in 30.6% of boys and 29.1% of the girls. The prevalence of overweight was 11% and Obesity was 6.3% of the population. Obesity was predominantly seen in boys (4.2%) and it was significantly higher when compared to the girls (2.1%) (p <0.001). Older boys (>10 years) were significantly affected more than the younger ones (p <0.01). The prevalence of wasting, stunting, overweight and obesity had significant variations in different educational zones comparable with the geographical areas. Maternal Education and Family income had a significant impact on the prevalence of stunting and obesity. (p<0.001) whereas the family size significantly contributed to the wasting and obesity. Conclusion Findings suggest that stunting, wasting, overweight and obesity are prevalent among 6-16-year-old leading to concerns in public health. The nutritional status significantly vary according to the geographical location maternal education and the household income.

Background. Acetabular fractures are severe intra-articular injuries that require anatomical reposition and early function, but they are often complicated by degenerative changes in both the acetabulum and the femoral head, leading to the development of post-traumatic coxarthrosis. The purpose was to study the clinical effectiveness of surgical treatment and postoperative management of patients using autologous platelet-rich plasma in patients with fractures of the acetabulum. Materials and methods. Twenty-eight patients with acetabular fractures of various degrees were operated at the City Emergency Hospital of Zaporizhzhia and the Municipal Clinical Hospital No 9 from 2017 to 2019. Gender composition: 22 men (78.57 %), 6 women (21.43 %), average age 46.64 ± 2.21 years, with a 95% confidence interval 42.31–50.96. Nineteen victims (67.86 %) had road traffic injuries, 7 (25 %) domestic injuries, and 2 (7.14 %) had industrial injuries. Results. In the main group of patients treated with platelet-rich plasma, radiologically visible adhesion of the injured area after 8 weeks occurred in 10 people (83.4 %). In one person (8.3 %), the adhesion occurred after 12, and in another (8.3 %) — 16 weeks after surgery. In the control group, adhesions at 8th week were registered in 14 patients (60.87 %), in 8 (34.78 %) — at 16th week. Given the general recovery of the body in the main group, the activation and social adaptation of patients occurred 2–3 weeks earlier. The assessment was performed radiologically and by the criteria of functional recovery.
