Abstrak Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi jenis – jenis kesalahan dan menganalisis sumber-sumber kesalahan yang dilakukan oleh siswa kelas X.3 SMA Dwijendra Bualu dalam menyusun teks deskriptif serta mengungkapkan implikasi dari kesalahan-kesalahan tersebut terhadap kompetensi bahasa kedua siswa kelas X.3 SMA Dwijendra Bualu. Penelitian ini didesain dengan menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif. Data untuk jenis-jenis dan sumber-sumber kesalahan diperoleh dengan cara memberikan tugas kepada siswa untuk membuat tulisan deskriptif. Sedangkan, untuk mengungkapkan implikasi dari kesalahan yang terdapat dalam tulisan siswa diperoleh dari hasil analisis data tersebut. Hasil analisis data menunjukkan bahwa, terdapat delapan belas jenis kesalahan yaitu: determiner, auxiliary, qualifier, preposition, pronoun, conjunction, -s for plural case, -s for verb after modal, placement of capital letter, wrong word choice, addition of noun, s-v agreement, wrong verb tenses, addition of verb, omission of verb, omission of letter, addition of letter and changing letter position. Selain itu, terdapat dua jenis sumber kesalahan, yaitu: kesalahan interlingual dan kesalahan intralingual. Disisi lain, kesalahan-kesalahan yang muncul berdampak pada kompetensi dan perkembangan bahasa kedua siswa, khususnya dalam menulis teks desrkripsi. Oleh karena itu, harus dilakukan analisis kesalahan untuk meminimalisir kemunculan kesalahan-kesalahan tersebut. Sehingga, siswa dapat memahami dan mampu menulis teks deskripsi berdasarkan struktur kebahasaan bahasa target.Kata Kunci : Kata kunci: Tipe kesalahan, sumber kesalahan, implikasi kesalahan, tulisan deskriptif Abstract This study was aimed at identifying the types and the sources of errors committed by the tenth (X.3) grade students of SMA DwijendraBualu in composing descriptive writing as well as revealing the implications of errors toward learners L2 competency. This research was designed by using descriptive qualitative method. The data for the types and the sources of errors were collected through administering writing task to the students. Meanwhile, the implications of errors were drawn from the result of data analysis. The research shows 18 types of errors, such as: determiner, auxiliary, qualifier, preposition, pronoun, conjunction, -s for plural case, -s for verb after modal, placement of capital letter, wrong word choice, addition of noun, s-v agreement, wrong verb tenses, addition of verb, omission of verb, omission of letter, addition of letter and changing letter position.Besides that, there are two sources of errors, namely: interlingual and intralingual errors. That is why, it is crucial conducting error analysis in order to minimize the appearance of errors. The aim of this study were to find out category shift types used in thetranslation of novel To Kill A Bird and to describe of how category shift is translatedin the novel from English into Indonesian. This study were conducted by usingdescriptive qualitative method. The data of the study were words, phrases, andclauses in the novel To Kill A Mockingbird which is translated into Indonesian byFemmy Syahrianni. It was found that there were 280 data in the novel from Englishinto Indonesian. The data analysis were taken by listing and bolding. Documentarysheets used as the instrument to collect the data. The data were analyzed based onMiles and Huberman (2014) by condensation which consists of selecting, focusing,simplifying, abstracting and transforming and then data display by using table inorder to get easy analyzing the data. The result of this study were (1) there were fourtypes of category shifts found in the novel To Kill a Mockingbird namely; structureshifts (36.78%), class shift (27.14%), unit shift (32.5%) and intra-system shift(3.27%). (2) The process of category shifts in the translation novel by havingmodifier-head in source language changed into head-modifier in target language,adverb in source language changed into verb in target language, one unit in sourcelanguage changed into some units in target language. and plural in source languagechanged into singular in target language.

Abstract: The objective of this study is (1) to describe the choice of using foreign and local languages on the bussiness banners and advertisements in Banjarbaru and Martapura; and (2) to explain the reasons or the cause of using those languages. Data is obtained from purposive samples of business sign board found in Banjarbaru and Martapura city. Data analysis is using descriptive approach; it was describing the error from the sample. This research uses the rule of Indonesianization of foreign words and terms and AIDA theory (Attention, Interest, Desire, Action). The results of this research are (1) many Banjar and foreign languages are used in one business sign board; (2) three reasons of using foreign and local language: 1. latest icon are used to attract consumer’s attention to goods and services even though the icon is not relevant to Indonesian Language. 2. Using different languages deviate from grammar and uncommon word choice to attract consumer’s attention to the advertisement of product or business. 3. The use of local language is familiar to consumers of detail and services. This research shows that local phrases or terms are used to evoke consumer’s feeling. On the other hand, the use of English gives an educated impression to advertisers.

Budaya merupakan salah satu tantangan utama yang ditemukan dalam menerjemahkan bahasa Inggris ke dalam bahasa Indonesia. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui dampak indeks budaya terhadap terjemahan Novel Eclipse karya Stephenie Meyer. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dan pendekatan semiotik dalam penerjemahan. Terdapat 30 data yang diambil dari novel Eclipse dan terjemahannya dalam bahasa Indonesia dengan teknik. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa (1) indeks budaya yang digunakan oleh penerjemah sebagai cara untuk mempertahankan budaya sumber itu sendiri memiliki dampak besar pada bahasa target. Ada beberapa terjemahan yang tidak dapat diterima dalam bahasa target karena maknanya tidak tersedia dalam bahasa Indonesia, indeks budaya lainnya diterima dalam bahasa target karena ada persamaan arti yang sesuai dengan bahasa sumber; (2) sebagai cara untuk menyelesaikan masalah dalam menerjemahkan budaya, penerjemah menggunakan prosedur transferensi dan naturalisasi. Terdapat 87% menggunakan prosedur transferensi dan 13% menggunakan naturalisasi. Simpulan umum dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa beberapa strategi penerjemahan tersebut tidak akurat di dalam bahasa sasaran sehingga penerjemah perlu mempertimbangkan pemilihan prosedur yang tepat sehingga terjemahan yang dihasilkan dapat diterima dalam bahasa sasaran. Culture is one of the main important challenges found in translating English into Indonesian language. This research aims to know the impact of cultural index on translation of Eclipse Novel by Stephenie Meyer. This research uses qualitative method and semiotic approach in translation. There are 30 data taken from Eclipse novel and its translation in Indonesian language. The results of this study show that (1) cultural index which used by translator as a way to defend the source culture and source language (henceforth SL) itself has a great impact on target language (henceforth TL). There are some translations which cannot be accepted in target language because the meaning is not available in Indonesian language, the other cultural index are accepted in TL as there are equivalence meaning that correspondence the SL; (2) as a way to solve the problem in translating culture, the translator uses transference and naturalization procedure. There are about 87% used transference procedure and 13% used naturalization. The general conclusion of this study shows that some of these strategies are not accurate in the target language so translators need to consider the selection of the right procedure so that the resulting translation can be accepted in the target language.

Reading, Listening, Speaking and Writing are four skills tested in TOEFL iBT. The two types of questions in the writing task of TOEFL iBT are independent and integrated. Focusing on the integrated task in which test-takers require to read a passage, to listen to a lecture related to the topic of the reading and to summarize the listening by explaining how it relates to the points in the reading (Peterson, 2007:8). This research analyzed the errors of students' writing production of integrated task. The research samples of the task were taken from 7 (seven)  TOEFL iBT candidates. Examining 14 integrated tasks, this study categorized the errors into three major categories: grammar, mechanics, and content errors. This study found that most frequent grammatical errors were in the verb (22%),  agreement (20%), and followed by a noun (14%). The findings of mechanic errors are mostly in the use of capitalization at the beginning of a sentence. In the part of punctuation errors, it was found that the omission of a comma as a frequent error. The last results are content errors which consist of plagiarism;  own idea addition; question addressing in which if the test takers’ response focuses on one of the two passages and completely ignores the other one; and missed information in which test-takers are unable to absorb key information from reading and listening passage. It is expected that these findings enable TOEFL iBT tutors to recognize candidates' problems and improve their teaching approach to reach better results. Keywords: Error Analysis, TOEFL iBT, integrated writing task, summarizing

This scientific article examines language errors in the official letter of the 2018 KBM FKIP UNTIRTA organization on PUEBI (Indonesian Spelling General Guidelines) and official letter provisions. The process of collecting data is done by referring to the technique and the technique of recording the collected data is classified according to the topic of the study. The data analysis technique is descriptive qualitative. The conclusions of this study are First, there were errors of 77 errors with the distribution of errors using PUEBI (General Indonesian Spelling Guidelines) as many as 59 errors and TKSR (Provisions for Official Letter Structure) as many as 18 errors; Second, the type of PUEBI error that dominates, namely capital letter usage errors; The three organizations that made mistakes were dominated by LSIP UKM (Student Activity Unit of the Circleof Islamic Studies and Education). Proses pengumpulan data di lakukan dengan teknik simak dan teknik catat data yang terkumpul diklasifikasikan berdasarkan topik kajian. Teknik analisis data bersifat deskriftif kualitatif. Simpulan dari penelitian ini adalah Pertama, terdapat kesalahan sebanyak 77 buah kesalahan dengan pembagian kesalahan penggunaan PUEBI (Pedoman Umum Ejaan Bahasa Indonesia) sebanyak 59 kesalahan dan TKSR (Ketentuan Struktur Surat Resmi) sebanyak 18 buah kesalahan; Kedua, Jenis kesalahan PUEBI yang mendominasi, yaitu kesalahan pemakaian huruf besar; Ketiga organisasi yang melakukan kesalahan didominasi oleh UKM LSIP (Unit Kegiatan Mahasiswa Lingkar Studi Islam dan Pendidikan). Kata Kunci:analisis kesalahan berbahasa, PUEBI, ketentuan struktur surat resmi

This paper is entitled The Use of Deixis in Julia Gillard’s Speech on Commemoration of Bali Bombing Victims in Garuda Wisnu Kencana Cultural Park, Bali. This research is aimed at analyzing the deixis used in the speech text by the Australia’s Prime Minister, Julia Gillard using Levinson’s theory. In conducting research, this study used qualitative method in which the study describes the types of deixis in which the data were taken from the Australian Minister website. Then identifying and classifying the deixis used in the speech text. The last step was  analyzing the data supported by the concept of Levinson. From all the data analysis taken from the speech text delivered by Julia Gillard, this study found the types of deixis such as person deixis, time deixis, place deixis, discourse deixis, and social deixis. This study also found some deixis in one sentence which help the speaker and the audience  understand the utterance better. This study suggests  the students in the future to use the other part such as analyzing an interview, conference, novels, and the like. Finally, such a big hope for this study could be useful to sharpen the reader in understanding deixis.

This study aims to describe the deviations and compliance with the principle of politeness in language that occurs in discussion in class VII students of SMP Negeri 1 Pancarijang. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative method. The technique used in collecting data uses listening techniques, record techniques and note taking techniques. Data analysis uses the pragmatic equivalent method. Data deviations from the politeness principle of language consists of six maxims, including maxims of wisdom, sympathy, appreciation, generosity, simplicity and consensus. Among the maxim of politeness, the maxim that is most distorted in terms of word choice and polite manner of discussion is the maxim of appreciation. Meanwhile, the maxim that is the most followed in terms of word choice and polite discussion is the maxim of wisdom.

ABSTRACT This study aims to describe the implementation and administration in the management of the Village Fund fiscal year 2016, along with the a limiting factor in the management and government’s efforts to overcome these obstacles. This research was conducted at the Community Empowerment Body and village authorities who have changed to the Department of Community Empowerment and Village (DPMD) and take six villages as samples in Hulu Sungai Utara, namely Cempaka, Kalintamui, Galagah Hulu, Kandang Halang, Pangkalan Sari and Benua Hanyar. This research uses descriptive qualitative method with inductive approach. Data collection techniques obtained by carrying out observations, interviews and documentation. While the data analysis techniques that are redaction Data reduction, Data display, Conclusion drawing. The results showed that the implementation and Administration of Village Funds in North Hulu Sungai Regency in principle have been done based on Regulation of Regent of Hulu Sungai Utara number 11 year 2016, specially on three sample villages of Cempaka Village, Kalintamui Village and Galagah Hulu Village. Owever, in the other three villages of Kandang Halang Village, Pangkalan Sari Village and Benua Hanyar Village, relatively not all work is done with an orderly administration. While on the implementation factor, communication and bureaucratic structure is relatively appropriate in Cempaka Village, Kalintamui Village and Galagah Hulu Village, but still relatively not suitable at Benua Hanyar Village, Kandang Halang Village and Pangkalan Sari Village. Fund resources are sufficient but in terms of quality and quantity still need to be optimized. While the disposition, the manager is very supportive with the Village Fund but need to be more carefully considered in the appointment of bureaucrats. <p align="center"><strong>ABSTRACT</strong></p><p> </p><p>The objective of this study is to analyze the error of using Degrees of          Comparison at the seventh grade of SMP Kesuma Bangsa Depok.The technique was made of purposive sampling, the sample was 40 students.     The method of the research was descriptive qualitative as for the technique       of collecting data was test method. The writer<strong> </strong>applied the test as research       instrument. The data was described as a percentage by using percentage             analysis. The writer discover there are some errors in students’         descriptive writing initiated with subject 6,27%, <em>to be</em> 25,46%, adjective          17,71%, article 7,01%, spelling 8,59%, noun 2,58%, pronoun 9,23%,             preposition 1,85%, word choice 2,58%, capitalization 14,39%, conjunction             2,58%, and word order 1,85%. The most frequent errors are to be 25,46%,    adjective 17,71%, and capitalization 14,39%. The causes of errors are due to first             language interference and translation. In conclusion, it might be      deduced that there are errors of using Degrees of Comparison in students’         descriptive writing at the seventh grade of SMP Kesuma Bangsa Depok.</p><p align="center"><strong>Abstrak</strong></p><p><strong> </strong></p><p> </p><p>Tujuan dari penelitian ini menganalisa kesalahan penggunaan perbandingan pada karangan deskriptif siswa kelas VII SMP Kesuma Bangsa Depok,  menggunakan teknik pengambilan sample sebanyak 40 siswa. Metode yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah deskriptif kualitatif, dan  teknik pengumpulan data. Peneliti menggunakan tes instrument. Data digambarkan dengan analisa persentasi. Peneliti menemukan ada beberapa kesalahan penulisan deskriptif siswa yaitu subyek 6.27%, kata kerja 25,46 %, kata sifat 17,71%, kata depan 7,01%, ejaan 8.59%, kata benda 2.58%, kata pengganti 9.23%, awalan 1.85%, pemilihan kata 2.58%, huruf kapital 14.39%, kata penghubung 2.58% and tata letak kata 1.85%. kesalahan yang sering terjadi adalah kata kerja sebanyak  25,46%,  kata sifat 17,71 % dan huruf capital 14.39% . penyebab kesalahan terjadi pengaruh Bahasa pertama dan terjemahan. Didapat kesimpulan bahwa ada kesalahan pada karangan deskriptif siswa kelas VII di SMP Kesuma Bangsa.</p>

The article aims at describing the appropriateness of word choice and its causes in written text. An error analysis was conducted to the second semester students of English Education in a university in Central Java to investigate errors in word choice. The errors are categorized in superficial descriptive categories (morphosyntactic and lexical derivational and pragmatics) and complementary descriptive categories (lexical syntactic, semantic and collocational problems and overlap, logicality and topic knowledge). Based on these categories, errors committed by students in word choice are caused by lack of vocabulary, lack of holistic understanding in grammar, lack of interaction with target language, lack of research of the topic given, not rereading their own texts, and being too dependent on bilingual dictionaries. Most of errors that are produced by students however did not hinder readers’ comprehension but still needs to get a thorough attention.
