The concept of Faith and Islam is one of the important teachings in Islam. In fact, it has become an outline of Islam which consists of three pillars, namely the Aqeedah (Pillars of Faith), Sharia (Pillars of Islam), and Morals (Ihsan). However, Fazlur Rahman provides another formula for the concept, namely Faith, Islam and Taqwa. So, the purpose of this research is to understand the concepts of Faith, Islam and Taqwa based on Fazlur Rahman's thinking. This research refers to Fazlur's library of sources used in analyzing the theory of hermeneutics. The hermeneutic theory used in this research is Dilthey's hermeneutics. The results of this study are: 1) Fazlur Rahman's biography is arranged in the frame of experiences-understanding which consists of all Fazlur Rahman's life experiences, evolution of Fazlur Rahman's thoughts and works, and Fazlur Rahman's constellation of contemporary Arab thinkers who classify him as a reconstructive reformative thinker. 2) Dilthey's hermeneutical analysis of Fazlur Rahman's thinking is to produce an understanding that Fazlur Rahman's entire life experience influences his main idea, neo-modernism. Then it is arranged in the form of a systematic methodology, namely the double movement theory which is used to examine the basic principles of the Qur’an in the form of ethics. The key terms of the Qur'anic ethics are Faith, Islam and Taqwa. So that the formula of Faith and Islam according to Fazlur Rahman is different from the understanding of Faith and classical Islam.

Highly creative adolescents (N = 319) were divided into 12 criterion groups of original thinkers and good elaborators on the basis of two scales, originality and elaboration, of Torrance's (1962) Minnesota Tests of Creative Thinking. These tests were initially administered to 112 public high school seniors, who were the total population. The criterion groups then completed a life experience inventory to isolate the biographical data associated with the development of these thinking abilities. Significant chi squares were found on 35 percent of the items differentiating original thinkers from good elaborators and from those students highest in both abilities. Previous research successfully identifying creative persons through biographical data was supported.

XML (Extensible Markup Language) represents one of flexible platforms for processing enterprise documents. Its simple syntax and powerful software infrastructure for processing this type of documents is a guarantee for high interoperability of individual documents. XML is today one of technologies influencing all aspects of ICT area.In the paper questions and basic principles of reusing XML-based documents are described in the field of enterprise documents. If we use XML databases or XML data types for storing these types of documents then partial redundancy could be expected due to possible documents’ similarity. This similarity can be found especially in documents’ structure and also in documents’ content and its elimination is necessary part of data optimization. The main idea of the paper is focused to possibilities how to think about dividing complex XML documents into independent fragments that can be used as standalone documents and how to process them. Conclusions could be applied within software tools working with XML-based structured data and documents as document management systems or content management systems.

Science teachers play an important role in improving science literacy of their students. In achieving and building students’ interest and literacy about science, teachers must have an appropriate approach to be used in teaching. In teaching science, students must be active and participative in the learning process. Engaging students in variety of activities can help them in constructing their own knowledge by experiencing and observing results of the experiment. Teachers must provide real world experiences for students to engage with around global issues. This took the form of service-learning projects emphasizing issues of global concern, or working in teams to devise and debate solutions to real-world problems. Notably, these activities were student-centered and inquiry-based. Teachers also incorporated their own cross-cultural experiences into the classroom through informal conversation, discussions, around artifacts and photos, and lesson plans that incorporated knowledge gained and relationship built though their global experiences. The need for utilizing real life experiences in science teaching is a must in today’s classroom as the new generations of learners are ready to work with the different global issues and concerns of which can play an important role in the learning process. However, the utilization of real life experiences in science instruction grows as a measure when teachers are able to develop an engaging and positive learning environment for learners. With this, teachers should carefully plan how to utilize the students’ real life experiences efficiently and effectively in inquiry-based science instruction to enhance more the teaching-learning process. The focus of this study was to determine the real life experience in inquiry-based earth and space science instruction in public secondary schools in Batangas City. The descriptive method of research was applied in the study, with the questionnaire as the main data gathering instrument responded to by 102 science teachers. Based on the analysis, it was revealed that real life experiences in science areas were moderately utilized by the students while teachers applied inquiry-based learning activities along its phases of exploration, concept introduction, and concept application to a moderate extent. It was recommended that the proposed learning plans be used to enhance science instruction and an instrument or assessment tool may be developed to determine the impact of utilization of real life experiences in teaching-learning process.

The article is devoted to a comprehensive study of the economics film discourse. Eleven feature films and documentaries of the economic genre in the English and Russian languages (total duration – 1,221 minutes) served as the material for the research. The article provides an overview of linguistic studies of the economic discourse over the past 20 years, describing three forms of its existence and functioning: scientific economic discourse, official business economic discourse, and popular economic discourse. Further, the author substantiates the feasibility of using film texts as material for linguistic research into the economic discourse, as well as its advantage – the possibility of studying three modes: oral, written, and gestural. The paper presents the following typological aspects of the economics film discourse: target audience, participants in communication, communication code, topic and precedent texts as the main idea. Based on those, the author identifies and describes the target audience of economics films, three binary models of interaction between participants in economic communication and their features. Further, the paper presents typological variety of discourses in which economic communication unfolds. There are considered everyday discourse, mass information discourse, and business discourse. In the last one, the author identifies the following genres: business conversation, business negotiations, office meeting, public speech, presentation, business discussion, press conference, business correspondence. In addition, the author has compiled terminological maps for economics films with the identification of key terms that determine the subject matter and the main problem of each film. The results of the analysis can be used not only in further research in the field of discourse and textual analysis but also as a basis for the formation of lecture and practical materials to be used for the course of business English and in the training of translators in the field of economics.

Drawing largely on my own career in academia, I elaborate on the need for greater gender, racial and other forms of diversity in International Relations. Although theories are thought to be “objective,” what goes into those theories and, in turn, their explanatory power is ultimately shaped by subjective, lived experiences. Different individuals with different life stories will develop different intuitions about how the world “works,” and thus will write different theories to capture those intuitions and, in turn, larger patterns of politics. I explain here how my life experience as a privileged white male has shaped the intellectual contours of my work on international hierarchy. Building from this foundation, I then explore how professional practices elevate as gatekeepers individuals with generally similar life experiences and, thus, intuitions about what constitutes “good” work in the field, which in turn reinforces those professional practices and priorities. The final section focuses on problems of eroding the disciplinary hierarchy and broadening the pipeline into the profession.

In this article, the work of Richard Quinney and his peacemaking approach to the study of crime is used to examine the circumstances of women's crime and the effect of incarceration on women and children. Quinney's attention to events prior to the act of crime is applied to women's crime. The common life experience of prior physical or sexual abuse is among the most consistent recurring themes among incarcerated women. For these women, crime is a symptom of other painful life experiences. Quinney's peacemaking approach to crime suggests that nonpunitive response offers more hope for a future without crime, and this approach is suggested as the most appropriate means of responding to women's crime.

AbstractThis study provides evidence of the significant life experiences (SLEs), which influence advocates for nonhuman animals to develop sensitivity toward animals. Thirty-nine humane educators participated in an online survey. Findings indicate that having a relationship with a companion animal in adulthood is the most important life experience, followed by having a childhood experience with an animal, being exposed to a positive role model in childhood, and reading about animals and animal issues. The study did not find age and gender related differences in life experiences. This paper compares the results from this study to two previous studies. The first study examined the SLEs of animal advocate leaders through analysis of autobiographies, biographies, oral histories, and written interviews. The second study examined the SLEs of animal rescuers through an open-ended survey. This paper discusses similarities and differences among these three groups.

Use value is one of the key terms related to architectural functionality. The term itself denotes the level of usefulness of a living space for its user, i.e., to what extent the space can meet specific human needs. The paper analyzes the relations between characteristic human needs and the possibilities for their fulfillment in a living space. Various studies examining different aspects of use value have often identified it with the quality of a living space. This is why one of the main aims of this paper is to reexamine the thesis claiming that use value is just one part which defines the quality of a living space and that these two terms are not equivalents. On the other hand, the paper presents a systematization of cause-and-effect relations between human needs and the basic principles and parameters for achieving use value within a living space. Although the term has not lost its importance since it was first used, the criteria for achieving a higher level of use value of a living space have not been sufficiently researched. Along with a comparative analysis of the terms value, use value and the quality of a living space, as well as an examination of the characteristic human needs present in each living space and ways of meeting them, the key contribution of the paper lies in defining the principles for achieving use value.
