In 2020, the 75th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War was celebrated. Many soldiers and did not survive to see the end of the war. It is important that people living now remember and honor those who gave their lives for the freedom and independence of our country and those who came from the war in difficult conditions to restore the national economy of the country. In memory of those who courageously defended the independence of our great country, we named a new apple cultivar ‘Den Pobedy’ (Victory Day), which took 33 years to create. In 2020, this cultivar was included in the State Register of breeding achievements and it is recommended for cultivation in the Central-Chernozem region including Belgorod, Voronezh, Kursk, Lipetzk, Orel and Tambov regions. This cultivar was developed by crossing are quite commonly known winter cultivar ‘Veteran’ and foreign cultivar ‘Horcout’. Trees have a drooping crown. The main branches are curves. A characteristic feature of this cultivar is that the branches from the trunk depart at an angle close to straight. The main number of fruits is located on short fruit formations. Fruits are of medium weight (140 g), conical, wide-ribbed. The main color of the fruit at the time of harvest is greenish. The cover color occupies most of the surface of the fruit in the form of red blush. The fruit flesh is white, greenish of average density. The appearance (attractiveness) of the fruit is estimated at 4.4 points, and the taste - at 4.3 points (5-point rating). Fruits contain 14.7 % of sugars and 9.2 mg/100 g of ascorbic acid (vitamin C). Harvest in Orel region is in mid-September, the consumer period of fruits is until mid-March. The cultivar regularly bears fruit and has high product and consumer qualities.

A careful 63-year-old work on apple breeding, resulting in the creation of 54 its varieties, included in the State Register of breeding achievements admitted for use, makes it possible to speak about the ways of reduction in the time of the actual breeding process and the subsequent stages of accelerating the introduction of new varieties into production. According to the experience of the Russian Research Institute of Fruit Crop Breeding, an average of 19 years is spent from hybridization to the adoption of a variety for State trials, and from hybridization to inclusion in the State Register it is spent 27 years. The requirements for new apple varieties are changing and becoming tougher to a large extent during this period. We off er the possibility of reducing the time to create a new variety by combining in time the actual breeding process and the primary variety study. For this purpose already during the selection and transfer of biannual seedlings to the breeding orchard it is necessary to multiply and include the best seedlings on morphological features with a culture of 5 points (no more than 1 seedling per thousand selected ones) in the primary study. In this case the actual breeding process is combined with the primary study. When transferring the variety to the state trial, it is necessary to lay orchards of a small production testing of 20-40 trees of a new variety in each of the three replications. The time of single breeders is a thing of the past. To create varieties that meet high requirements of production (convenient for cultivation, highly adapted to local conditions, with a certain shape of tree crowns, with the fruits of high commodity and consumer qualities), interdisciplinary teams are needed, which include not only breeders, but also pomologists, geneticists, cytoembryologists, biochemists, physiologists, phytopathologists, and agricultural technicians. Usually years, and sometimes decades are spent on the creation of well-coordinated teams of professionals of diff erent specialties, but only such teams are able to create varieties that meet all main requirements. At Russian Research Institute of Fruit Crop Breeding such a team consists of 22 people.

Each region is characterized by a certain set of natural conditions. Therefore, it is necessary to have varieties of forage crops that can realize soil and climatic potential of the zone and are resistant to various possible stress factors. The purpose of the research is: study the variety samples of meadow clover according to the complex of economically useful characteristics in the competitive variety testing; identify the most promising ones in the conditions of the European North of the Russian Federation. The research was carried out in 2017, 2018 and 2019 at the experimental field of FSUE “Kotlasskoe”, which is located in the south-east of the Arkhangelsk region. Such breeding methods as selection, hybridization, creation of complex hybrid synthetic populations were used to create the studied variety samples. The studies were carried out according to the guidelines of the Federal Research Center “VNIIK named after V. R. Williams” and methodology of the State variety testing of agricultural crops (under the general editorship of Fedin M. A.). Soil of the experimental plots is weakly podzolic clay, medium cultivated on Permian clays. Mid-early diploid variety ‘Niva’ was used as a standard. The experiment was laid on a bare fallow; four-fold replication. Sowing was carried out with a SKS-6-10 seeder. Variety samples were evaluated according to a set of biological and agricultural characteristics: winter hardiness, vegetation period per mowing mass, plant height, leafiness, dry matter collection, protein content, protein collection, seed productivity. Agrometeorological conditions during the years of research were different, which allowed us to obtain more reliable results in assessing studied breeding material. All presented promising breeding samples exceeded the standard one in terms of the studied basic economic and biological characteristics. According to each studied indicator, we selected the best varieties. On average, over the years of research, a comprehensive assessment allowed us to identify the most valuable varieties that can form stable feed and increased seed productivity in northern conditions. They are K-2003, SD-289, K-1809, K-1556, ‘Taezhnik’. Winter hardiness of these samples varied from 84 to 94 %, dry matter collection – from 9.0 to 9.9 t/ha, seed yield – from 256 to 309 kg/ha, protein collection – from 1.26 to 1.35 t/ha. Variety ‘Taezhnik’ was included in the State Register of Breeding Achievements in 2020 for the 2nd region.

Actuality of theme. Insignificant sown area and low yield of common bean seeds do not meet consumer needs for its products in Ukraine. One of the important factors in increasing the sown area and increasing the yield of beans is the correct selection of its varieties, taking into account their agri-environmental resistance to diseases, pests, drought and potential productivity. Goal. Therefore, the aim of our research was to analyze the available range of beans in terms of productivity and resistance to adverse environmental factors. Methods. Studies on the assessment of agroecological resistance of common bean varieties to adverse growing conditions were conducted on the basis of the State Register of Plant Varieties Suitable for Distribution in Ukraine for 2021, Official Descriptions of Plant Varieties and Economic Suitability Indicators submitted in the Official Bulletins, covered in the Information-reference system "Variety", as well as on the materials of scientific research Bezugla O.M., Ovcharuk O.V., Mazur O.V., Palamarchuk V.D., Klisha A.I., Kulinich O.O., Korzh Z.V., Olifirovich S.E., where the indicators of productivity of varieties of common beans are presented. Materials were analyzed by varieties of common beans (grain) and common beans (vegetables). The resistance of bean varieties to pests, diseases and drought was considered as unfavorable growing conditions. The relative resistance of plant varieties to adverse factors is established on a nine-point scale (1 – 9 points), in which 9 points corresponds to the highest resistance, and 1 point – the lowest resistance. Potential yield levels of seeds of grain beans and green beans of vegetable beans were also analyzed. We compared the studied indicators using mathematical-statistical correlation-regression analysis. Results. Last years the Rostov region has faced a significant climate continentality increase during the growing season of winter crops. This factor makes necessary to develop new varieties of intensive winter barley with a high level of ecological adaptability, resistance to lodging and leaf diseases, with a high level of potential productivity. The purpose of the current study was to develop a new highly productive, stress-resistant winter barley variety with a high level of adaptability and to evaluate it according to economically valuable traits. The current paper has presented the agrobiological characteristics of the winter barley variety ‘Marusya’, the originator and patent holder of which is the Federal State Budgetary Scientific Institution “Agrarian Research Center “Donskoy”. The research was carried out from 2018 to 2020 in the fields of experimental crop rotation of the department of barley breeding and seed production of the FSBSI “ARC “Donskoy”. The forecrop was peas. The accounting plot area was 10 m², the number of repetitions was 6. The winter barley variety ‘Timofey’ was used as a standard variety. The species was parallelum. The type of development was facultative. Over the years of study in the Competitive Variety Testing of the FSBSI “ARC “Donskoy” (2018–2020), the variety produced from 8.0 to 11.2 t/ha, that exceeded the standard variety ‘Timofey’ on 0.5–1.5 t/ha. Since 2020, the State Commission for Variety Testing of Agricultural Crops decided to include the variety ‘Marusya’ in the State List of Breeding Achievements in the North Caucasus region. The variety is being studied in the Central Blackearth and Lower Volga regions of the Russian Federation. The consistently high productivity of the new variety is achieved due to the large grain and higher indicators of the yield structure elements and resistance to diseases in comparison with those of the standard variety ‘Timofey’
