COVID-19 is a pandemic event not seen in a century. This research aims to determine important predictors of resilience towards the COVID 19/Coronavirus Pandemic. This study uses a cross-sectional design, with purposive snowball sampling, for primary survey data collected over 10 weeks starting the first week in April 2020. Participants completed a self-administered questionnaire on demographics and behavioral factors. Resilience was assessed using the 10-item Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale and perceived stress was assessed using the 10-item Perceived Stress Scale. 374 adults participated in the survey. OLS regression was performed to determine key associations among demographic variables, resilience measures, and perceived stress brought on by COVID-19. Age and education were statistically significantly positively associated with resilience, while English as a second language was significantly negatively associated. Participants who reported needing help from family and neighbors, total number of days in lockdown, and higher perceived stress were all significantly negatively associated with resilience. This study adds to immediate predictors of individual resilience to the ongoing infectious disease catastrophe created by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Aim: The primary aim of this cross-sectional research study was to investigate the potential differences in perceived psychological stress level in those dieting compared to those not undertaking a diet. The secondary objective was to assess if stress levels in those dieting were correlated with the duration of the diet. Methods: We administered the previously validated Perceived Stress Scale (PSS) to 60 United Arab Emirates residents. Participants were also asked demographic questions concerning age and gender and were requested to indicate if they were currently undertaking a diet to achieve weight loss. Participants who were actively on a diet were also asked about the duration of the diet (days). Results: A total of 60 participants were recruited to the study, of which 71.7% were female. The majority (71.7%) of the sample were 18-25 years old and 58.3% indicated that they were undertaking a diet at the time of data acquisition. The median total score on the PSS was 19 (14 – 22). There was a significant difference in PSS total score between those on a diet and those not (p=0.021). A positive correlation was found between number of days on a diet and perceived stress level (r=0.147) but this was not statistically significant (p=0.406).Conclusions: Dieting behaviour was associated with higher levels of perceived psychological stress compared to those not undertaking a diet. Engaging in dieting behaviour is commonly driven by body dissatisfaction and may be linked to heightened stress due to social pressures or other factors.

College students have a high suceptibility to experience stress, especially those in last semester who write thesis. If stress not managed correctly, students could experienced negative behaviour like emotional over eating that could infl uence nutritional status. Those problems even occur in nutrition students who already had proper knowledge of health and nutrition practices. This research aims to analyze correlation between emotional over eating behaviour and intake with stress leves and scors of perceived stress scale among nutrition students who write thesis. This research was an observational analytic using cross sectional design. Subjects were 34 nutrition students taken by simple random sampling. Data were collected by perceived stress scale, eating appraisal due to emotion and stress (EADES), questionnaire, and 2 x 24hour food recall. Data were analyzed using Pearson and Spearman Correlation. Results showed correlation between stress level with emotional eating (p=0.008, r=-0.448), scores of perceived stress scale with energy intake (p=0.028, r=0.376), and fat intake (p=0.002, r=0.507). Conclusion of this study is high stress level can be a trigger for emotional eating as a coping strategy that leads to over intake in nutrition students who write thesis. Since food choice could be a problem when having stress, emotional eating can be balanced by perfomed a right food choice as daily intake needs.

The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted the mental health of people worldwide. An increase in perceived stress can lead to unhealthy behaviors such as increased food consumption. The aim of this study was to find the level of perceived stress and its relationship with increased food consumption during the “third wave” of the COVID-19 pandemic in Spain. This was a cross-sectional study that employed anonline self-reported frequency of consumption questionnaire and the Perceived Stress Scale-10. A total of 637 subjects participated and 83.6% of respondents had moderate or high stress—more prevalent in the female and young respondents. Moreover, 36.1% of respondents reported that they had increased the frequency of consumption of some foods, mainly nuts, snacks, and jellybeans, along with coffee, tea, cocoa, and soft drinks. Eating between meals was more pronounced in those with high stress (65.1%) than in those with moderate stress (40.4%) and low stress (20.2%). Furthermore, the respondents with high stress reported greater weight gain. Thus, the results show that the level of perceived stress during the ‘third wave’ of this pandemic increased food consumption.

Abstract Introduction During the COVID pandemic, the 2019-2020 cohort of final year students were invited to participate in Foundation interim Year 1 placements (FiY1). FiY1 aimed to ease transition to Foundation Year 1 doctor (FY1). We assessed the psychological impact of FiY1 on final year medical students. Method A cross-sectional survey was distributed to final year medical students in the UK between June 4th and July 4th, 2020. The survey contained the following domains: participant demographics, rationale for FiY1 participation, a checklist of the key safety principles for FiY1s, the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale and the Perceived Stress scale-4. Results 107 final years responded to the survey. 72.0% (n = 77) of final year students surveyed were working as FiY1s. Final year students participating in FiY1 postings had reduced rates of anxiety (29.9% vs 43.4%, P = 0.186), depression (5.2% vs 20.0%, P = 0.018) and lower perceived stress levels (5.0 vs 7.2, P < 0.001). 19.5% (15/77) FiY1s reported working beyond their competency, 27.3% (22/77) felt unsupervised, but 94.8% (73/77) of FiY1s felt the post prepared them for FY1. Conclusions Students participating in FiY1 postings felt less stressed and depressed than those not participating in the scheme and the majority felt it was preparing them for FY1.

Different stages along the trajectory of cleft care may present with different and peculiar challenges that may negatively impact family caregivers, leading to considerable stress and burden. This study aims to evaluate the family caregiver burden and perceived stress of caring for patients with cleft deformities. Contributing factors to family caregivers’ burden in the perioperative period of cleft repair was also identified. A cross-sectional design that included 90 adult caregiver–patient pairs was employed. Semi-structured questionnaire was used to collect necessary information. The level of caregiver’s burden was assessed using the Zarit burden interview score. The results demonstrated the levels of caregiver burden as severe (4.4%), moderate to severe (21.1%), mild to moderate (40%), and little or none (34.5%). The only significant and independent predictor of caregiver burden was earning less than US$50/month (odds ratio = 2.30, 95% CI = 0.95-5.61, P = .066). Coping strategy was mainly family support (98.9%), while the greatest need expressed was financial assistance (66.7%). Our findings suggests that efforts geared at reducing direct and indirect cost of cleft care may help in reducing caregivers’ burden.
