Perkembangan teknologi informasi dan komunikasi (TIK) yang semakin pesat menyebabkan aktivitas komunikasi antar manusia menjadi lebih mudah dan praktis. Salah satu bentuk perkembangan TIK yaitu internet dengan media sosial sebagai salah satu fasilitasnya. Namun, pada penggunaannya media sosial tidak selalu berdampak positif. Agar terhindar dari dampak negatif media sosial, maka dibutuhkan literasi media bagi para penggunanya. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menjelaskan karakteristik individu remaja, menjelaskan tingkat literasi media remaja, menjelaskan pemanfaatan media sosial oleh remaja, dan menganalisis hubungan karakteristik individu dan literasi media dalam pemanfaatan media sosial. Analisis data yang digunakan berupa analisis data kuantitatif dan kualitatif. Analisis kuantitatif dilakukan dengan Statistika deskriptif dan Inferensial dengan uji korelasi rank spearman dan chi square. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Tingkat literasi media responden pada aspek technical skills dan communicative abilities tergolong pada kategori tinggi sedangkan pada aspek critical understanding tergolong sedang. Frekuensi mengakses media sosial oleh remaja tergolong ke dalam dua kategori, yakni frekuensi rendah dan tinggi dengan durasi mengakses tinggi, media yang paling banyak digunakan responden dalam mengakses media sosial adalah ponsel, serta mayoritas responden mengakses media sosial untuk tujuan komunikasi. Pendidikan, biaya paket data merupakan karakteristik responden yang berhubungan signifikan dengan tujuan pemanfaatan, serta critical understanding dan communicative abilities berhubungan sangat nyata dengan frekuensi, durasi mengakses, dan tujuan pemanfaatan.Kata Kunci : literasi media, media sosial, pemanfaatan media sosial=====ABSTRACTThe purpose of this study is to explain the individual characteristics of village youth, explain the level of media literacy of village youth, explain the use of social media by village youth, and analyze the relationship of individual characteristics and media literacy in the use of social media. The results showed that the level of media literacy of respondents in the aspects of technical skills and communicative abilities was in the high category while in the aspect of critical understanding was moderate. The frequency of accessing social media by rural adolescents falls into two categories, namely low and high frequencies with high access duration, the media most widely used by respondents in accessing social media are mobile phones, and the majority of respondents access social media for communication purposes. Education, data package costs are characteristics of respondents that are significantly related to the purpose of utilization, and critical understanding and communicative abilities are very significantly related to frequency, duration of access, and purpose of utilization.Keywords: media literacy, social media, use of social media

The world of research requires researchers, students to share knowledge. With the invention of social media, knowledge sharing process has been more effective and easier. This study examined the usage of social media for knowledge sharing among students of the Polytechnic Ibadan, Nigeria. Descriptive survey research design was adopted, while stratified random sampling technique was adopted to select the students. Four hundred and thirty four copies of questionnaire were administered, while 301 were retrieved and 271 copies found useful for data analysis. Data was analysed using frequencies and percentage distribution, Spearman’s rank correlation, Kruskal Wallis test, and Chi-Square. Findings reveal that Facebook and Whatsapp are the widely used social media tools for knowledge sharing by the students. The study found significant relationship between social influence and attitude towards using social media for knowledge sharing, as well as significant relationship between attitude and use of social media for knowledge sharing.The study recommends that institutions should exploit the proliferation of social media and its use to set up off-class student-student and student-lecturer discussion groups, which could help encourage and promote knowledge sharing, and thereby help students in achieving good academic outcomes.

The big challenge of Indonesia in the political year (2018-2019) is the rise of hoax and expressions of hatred, especially with issues of ethnicity, religion, race and intergroup (SARA). Both of them have the potential to be a nation-dividing tool. Islamic Tertiary Institutions have the responsibility to reduce the spread of hoaxes and expressions of hatred, based on the Tri Dharma of Higher Education. This research illustrates the strategy of IAIN Surakarta to overcome SARA hoaxes and expressions of hatred issues in the political year. Theoretically, media literacy includes two things: individual competence consisting of technical skills and critical understanding, and social competence in communicative abilities. In conclusion, the effort to overcome hoaxes and hate speech by IAIN Surakarta is to build critical attitudes of students and the community through various activities, such as: seminars, discussions, community service based study programs, and collaboration with anti-hoax communities. In addition, IAIN Surakarta also strengthened religious moderation through several ways, such as lecturing in community, classroom teaching, and research. Thus, critical understanding and technical skills as aspects of media literacy can be developed.

What we know about association between social media and media literacy is largely based upon case studies that investigate how teenagers’ behavior in digital environment. Although studies focusing on the level of media literacy skills towards social media have been conducted in recent years, much uncertainty still exists about the relationship between the media literacy skills and the use of social media among teenagers. This study aims to contribute to this growing area of research by exploring the level of media literacy skills and motivations among the teenagers towards social media in urban area. A quantitative descriptive survey research design was used to identify, analyze, and describe the media literacy skills of teenagers towards social media. The purposive sampling method was taken to appropriately select an evenly balanced group of participants. In total, 34 students participated, of which 83% living in the rural-urban fringe area, the intersection area between urban and farming field. It is evidently clear from the findings that the average level of media literacy skills among teenagers in urban area is at medium level. There is a high level of information dimension among teenagers, whereas other dimensions are fractionally less popular. On average, the level of dimensional motivations is medium. Teenagers seem to use social media to support their study and socially engage with friends. The result of this study confirm previous studies that focused on the level of media literacy among teenagers towards social media. Analysis of data shows that teenagers acknowledged the benefits of social media. However, no statistically significant difference between the mean sores of four sets of media literacy skills was evident. Media literacy is maturing, as evidenced by the significant understanding of social media in the digital environment.  


The development of digital technology in the era of the industrial revolution 4.0 requires today’s younger generations to demonstrate media literacy. It is often the case that cyber-crime happens among teenagers because they are misinformed. This study measures students’ media literacy using individual competence framework which include technical skills, critical understanding, and communicative abilities. Respondents were 100 university undergraduate students in Indonesia selected randomly. The results showed that 60-80% respondents demonstrated medium level technical skills, 80-90% of them have low critical understanding, and 45% of them displayed medium communicative abilities. In addition, media literacy was found to significantly influence students’ social character as much as 49%. The finding of this study implies the need for literacy education is imminent because low media literacy may lead to low social character.

Social media use: The role of parents' perceptions about social media impact in early marriageBackground: Early marriage is a marriage that is conducted at adolescence, the factors causing early marriage are socio-cultural factors, economic pressure, level of education, difficulty in getting a job, social media, religion and views and beliefsPurpose: To find out the influence of social media and the role of parents on the incidence of early marriageMethod: A quantitative research using descriptive analytical research method with cross sectional study design with variable use of social media with the criteria for the results "active and inactive". For the variable of the role of parents with 2 outcome criteria, namely "influential and not influential". And for the variable incidence of early marriage, there are 2 criteria, namely age 14-16 years and age 17-19 years, the questionnaire used has been through the validity of previous researchers. Then the results of the data obtained were analyzed in the SPSS program using the Chi Square testResults: From the Chi Square test results for social media variables obtained p value = 0.001, then the value of p = 0.001 <0.05 (α) while the role of parents variable Chi Square test results obtained p value = 0.022, therefore the value of p = 0.022 <0.05 (α).Conclusion: Based on the results of the study it can be concluded that, there is a significant influence between the use of social media and the role of parents in the event of early marriage Keywords: Social media; Parents, Early marriagePendahuluan: Pernikahan usia dini adalah perkawinan yang dilakukan pada usia remaja, faktor penyebab pernikahan usia dini adalah faktor sosial budaya, desakan ekonomi, tingkat pendidikan, sulit mendapat pekerjaan, media sosial, agama serta pandangan dan kepercayaan.Tujuan: Untuk mengetahui pengaruh media sosial dan peran orang tua terhadap kejadian pernikahan dini di Kecamatan Marioriawa Kabupaten Soppeng Metode: Penelitian kuantitatif dengan menggunakan metode penelitian deskriptif analitik dengan rancangan cross sectional study dengan variabel penggunaan media sosial dengan kriteria hasil “aktif dan tidak aktif”. Untuk variabel peran orang tua dengan 2 kriteria hasil yaitu “berpengaruh dan tidak berpengaruh”. Dan untuk variabel kejadian pernikahan dini ada 2 kriteria  yaitu umur 14-16 tahun dan umur 17-19 tahun,  kuesioner yang di gunakan sudah melalui uji validitas peneliti sebelumnya. Kemudian hasil data yang di dapatkan dianalisis di program SPSS dengan menggunakan uji Chi SquareHasil: Dari hasil uji Chi Square untuk variabel media sosial didapatkan nilai p=0,001, maka nilai p=0.001<0.05 (α) sedangkan variabel peran orang tua hasil uji Chi Square didapatkan nilai p=0,022, oleh karena itu nilai p=0.022<0.05 (α).Simpulan: Berdasarkan hasil penelitian dapat di simpulkan bahwa, Ada pengaruh yang signifikan antara penggunaan media sosial dan peran orang tua terhadap kejadian pernikahan dini

The profiling method applied in the study facilitated evaluating the model of the selected organization. It is an efficient technique for exploring data. Graphic objects show the individual characteristics of selected organizations. Graphical visualization makes it easy to gauge the trajectory, the direction of your company's social media strategy, and helps to make a decision to change it. Further analysis of the structure of these models may facilitate the discovery of relevant relationships between the analyzed variables.

Social media is currenly one of the most used communication media by the community. The number of users of social media is not balanced with an understanding of ethics, danger, and how to counter information wisey. The ITE Law has been implemented since 2012 but does not increase the understanding and limits of users in social media. This study aims to improve public understanding of social media literacy and be able to control potentially unlawful interactions. The research method uses a quantitative approach by measuring the level of understanding of media literacy done twice, namely at the beginning of the study and the end of the study. This research is combine with treatment in the form of : socialization an practical guidance on ethics on social media. The result of this study are in the form of signifivantly increasing understanding of media literacy. The result were also obtained, the respondents did not understand the ethics and laws governing the use of social media.

Information in agriculture has an important role for farmers in efforts to improve their farming activities. Some empirical research on the use of WhatsApp as a medium for disseminating information among farmers is still limited even though farmers have used it. This study explores the use of WhatsApp in strengthening agricultural information for mango farmers in Pasuruan Regency. The data analysis method used consists of two stages, the first is Crosstab, the second stage is measuring the association is Chi-Square using IBM SPSS Ver software. 23. The results of the analysis show that the age of the respondent is the only factor that is stated to have no relationship with agricultural information via WhatsApp. While other factors forming individual characteristics, namely education, length of time using HP, and length of farming have a relationship with agricultural information via WhatsApp. The four factors that make up the accessibility of information consist of completeness of features, icons/images that are easy to remember & find, ease of navigation and attractive appearance/interface, all of which are stated to have a relationship with agricultural information via WhatsApp. In addition, the research findings provide an interesting picture, namely sending and downloading agricultural info videos is the only media literacy factor that is stated to have no relationship with agricultural information via WhatsApp. Meanwhile, other factors forming Media Literacy, namely Sending messages/chats and calls, Time to find Information and Discussions on WA Group have a relationship with agricultural information via WhatsApp.

Social media is one of the results of the development new media. It grows with a wide variety of information and technology applications and has a great demand by all levels of society. The use of social media can provide a dual effect on the social fabric of society, especially the youth, because youth are the active users of social media. Students as a young generation need to be prepared with digital media literacy skills to be able to use digital media intelligently and effectively. This study aims to determine the ability of the digital media literacy of students STIKOM LSPR Jakarta, in particularly of the usegae of social media. The research used the instrument of Social Competence Framework based on European Commission (2009) to determine the level of digital media literacy of students. The results showed that the media literacy of students STIKOM LSPR including medium level based on their social competence. Moreover, the result can be used as a foundation in creating digital media literacy education programs.
