Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is one of the most leading causes for morbidity and mortality in the worldwide. Age and other genetic factors are not only primarily responsible other factors including diabetes, hypertension lifestyles are some of the major risk factors associated with CVD. The study was designed to understand the nutritional status of the cardiovascular disease. The present study was an observational study which was carried out in Pinnacle hospital Arilova in Vishakhapatnam Andhra Pradesh. The study was designed to investigate the impact of nutritional status of cardiovascular disease patients in the age group of 40 to 70 years. A total of 100 samples were taken and the data was gathered through qualitative methods like questionnaire and interview methods. Anthropometric measurement, Biochemical parameters, clinical parameters, dietary intake was assessed by 24hours recall method and diet counselling was given. Among 100 samples 76 were male and 24 were female, stated physical status of the sample's states that majority of the samples go for walking (25%) everyday, 27% twice a week. 12% once a week and 36% never go for any physical activity. Majority of the samples (52) suffer from hypertension, (42) with atherosclerosis, (25) samples with myocardia infraction and 18 with angina pectoris, 8 with rheumatic heart disease and 4 with stroke. The study concludes the prevalence of hypertension, kidney disorders and diabetes are increasing with increase in CVD, the sedentary lifestyle and lack of physical exercise was one of the major route causes for CVD. High consumption of saturated fatty acids leads to obesity. Consumption of good dietary habits along with medication with physical activity helps in prevention and treatment of CVD.

Nutrition and metabolism have been the topic of extensive scientific research in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) but clinical awareness of the impact dietary habits, nutritional status and nutritional interventions may have on COPD incidence, progression and outcome is limited. A multidisciplinary Task Force was created by the European Respiratory Society to deliver a summary of the evidence and description of current practice in nutritional assessment and therapy in COPD, and to provide directions for future research. Task Force members conducted focused reviews of the literature on relevant topics, advised by a methodologist. It is well established that nutritional status, and in particular abnormal body composition, is an important independent determinant of COPD outcome. The Task Force identified different metabolic phenotypes of COPD as a basis for nutritional risk profile assessment that is useful in clinical trial design and patient counselling. Nutritional intervention is probably effective in undernourished patients and probably most when combined with an exercise programme. Providing evidence of cost-effectiveness of nutritional intervention is required to support reimbursement and thus increase access to nutritional intervention. Overall, the evidence indicates that a well-balanced diet is beneficial to all COPD patients, not only for its potential pulmonary benefits, but also for its proven benefits in metabolic and cardiovascular risk.

Objective: To compare the nutritional status of doctors and non-doctors in relation to their eating habits and physical activity Study Design: Cross sectional study. Place and Duration of Study: Combined Military Hospital/Military Hospital Rawalpindi, from Sep 2018 to Mar 2019. Methodology: Anthropometric measurements like weight for age, height for age, weight according to height along with BMI were used as indicators of nutritional status. Data collection tool was built upon food frequency questionnaire and comprised of sociodemographic variables followed by major portions related to general health of respondents, nutritional assessment, dietary patterns and physical activity. Results: Out of 200 respondents, 100 were physicians working in services hospitals of Army while rest hundred were serving officers non-doctors of similar social status. Mean age of the participants was 35.00 ± 7.57 years. There was no significant difference between self-perceived health status of both groups (p>0.05). Dietary habits of physicians were significantly healthy as compared to their counterparts (p=0.01) while physical activity patterns were better amongst non-doctors (p=0.001). Physicians had unhealthy dietary habits, but intake was bit less and cautious as compared to their counterpart group. Conclusion: Doctors have better dietary patterns, but worse physical activity practices as compared to individuals with similar social strata. Risk factors and nutritional indicators were not different for both groups.

Abstract Background The COVID-19 pandemic has forced governments around the world to impose strict hygiene and national lockdown measures, which in turn has changed the dietary and lifestyle habits of the world’s population. Thus, the aim of this study is to evaluate whether dietary and physical activity behaviors of Saudi Arabia’s adult population changed during the COVID-19 quarantine. Methods An electronic questionnaire which assessed changes in body weight, dietary habits, and physical activity of Saudi Arabia’s adult population (n = 2255) during the COVID-19 quarantine was distributed on social media between June and July 2020. To test the differences between changes in dietary and physical activity behaviors in relation to changes in body weight a Chi-square test was used. Results Over 40 and 45% of participants reported eating and snacking more, respectively, which led to weight gain in around 28%. Most participants reported that they consumed home-cooked (73%) and healthy meals (47%), while only 7% reported that they consumed foods from restaurants. Feelings of boredom and emptiness (44%) and the availability of time for preparing meals (40%) were the main reasons for changing dietary habits. Honey (43%) and vitamin C (50%) were the most consumed immune-boosting food and dietary supplement, respectively. COVID-19 also had a negative impact on physical activity, lowering the practice in 52% subjects, which was associated with significant weight gain (p < 0.001). Conclusion Assessing the changes to the population’s dietary habits and physical activity during the lockdown will help predict the outcome of the population’s future health and wellbeing after the pandemic.

Background: Prevalence of overweight and obesity in adult has increased each year in Indonesia. Middle managers were groups at risk for overweight because their job characteristics such as low physical activity and risk of experiencing job stress. Economy support in middle manager was one of supporting factor which affect to higher amount of energy intake. Overweight in adult can affect on their health status and work productivityObjectives: The purpose of this study was to analyze the correlation between energy intake, job stress, physical activity and sleep duration with BMI in middle manager.Methods: This was an observational study with cross sectional design. 49 Middle Manager in Surabaya’s Government Agency were selected using cluster sampling. Nutritional status data were collected using anthropometric measurement, energy intake using SQ-FFQ, job stress using OSI-R questionnaire, physical activity and sleep duration data using activity recall. Data were analyzed by Pearson product moment test.Results: This study showed that most of respondents has normal nutritional status (61.2%), adequate energy intake (47%), moderate level job stress (69.4%), low (46.9%) and moderate (46.9%) physical activity level, and lack of sleep duration (59.2%). There were correlation between energy intake (p=0.001) and sleep duration (p=0.006) with BMI. Job stress (p=0.227) and phyisical activity (p=0.148) had no correlation with BMI.Conclusions: higher energy intake and lower sleep duration would increase BMI.ABSTRAKLatar Belakang: Prevalensi status gizi lebih pada penduduk dewasa semakin meningkat di Indonesia. Manajer madya merupakan kelompok yang berisiko mengalami kegemukan karena jenis pekerjaan kantor yang ringan serta rentan mengalami stres kerja. Dukungan ekonomi juga menjadi salah satu faktor pendukung besarnya asupan energi dibandingkan energi yang dikeluarkan untuk beraktifitas. Masalah gizi lebih pada penduduk dewasa dapat memengaruhi status kesehatan dan produktifitas kerja seseorang.Tujuan: Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis hubungan antara asupan energi, stres kerja, aktifitas fisik dan durasi waktu tidur dengan Indeks Massa Tubuh (IMT) pada Manajer Madya.Metode: Penelitian ini adalah observasional dengan desain penelitian potong lintang. Sebanyak 49 manajer madya di Dinas Pemerintah Kota Surabaya dipilih menggunakan metode cluster sampling. Pengumpulan data menggunakan pengukuran antropometri untuk IMT, SQ-FFQ untuk asupan energi, kuesioner OSI-R untuk stres kerja serta recall aktifitas fisik untuk data aktifitas fisik dan durasi waktu tidur. Analisis data menggunakan uji korelasi pearson product moment.Hasil: Penelitian menunjukkan bahwa sebagian besar responden memiliki status gizi normal (61,2%), kecukupan energi tergolong baik (47%), stres kerja tingkat sedang (69,4%), aktifitas fisik ringan (46,9%) dan sedang (46,9%) serta durasi tidur yang kurang (59,2%). Terdapat hubungan antara asupan energi (p=0,001) dan durasi waktu tidur (0,006) dengan IMT. Stres kerja (p=0,227) dan aktifitas fisik (p=0,148) tidak berhubungan dengan IMT.Kesimpulan: Semakin tinggi asupan energi dan semakin singkat durasi waktu tidur maka akan semakin tinggi IMT pada manajer madya.

The impact of alcohol and marijuana abuse on the physical health and nutritional status of adolescents has not been well documented. The health consequences of alcoholism and chemical abuse in adults may not relate to the pediatric population. Forty-nine adolescent boys (mean age 15.8 years) with varying degrees of alcohol and marijuana use by self-report were evaluated as to their general health, pubertal development and nutritional status using health and dietary history, physical examination, anthropometrics, and biochemical assays of liver function and tissue nutrients. Thirteen (27%) were alcohol and marijuana abusers, 20 (41%) marijuana abusers, and 16 (32%) nonusers. There were significant differences between alcohol and marijuana abusers and marijuana abusers compared to nonusers with respect to endorsing symptoms of nutritional deficiency (muscle weakness, bleeding gums, tiredness, etc) (P &lt; .001). There were no significant differences between subgroups in other nutritional measures except plasma zinc concentration which was low in marijuana abusers (mean 85µg/dL). All adolescents reported consuming adequate nutrients, although alcohol and marijuana abusers reported eating more snack foods and less fruit, vegetables, and milk than other groups. There were no significant differences in hemotologic status (complete blood cell count, transferrin, folate), liver function (γ-glutamyltranspeptidase), or anthropometric and sexual maturational indices of growth. There were no chronic signs of chemical abuse by physical examinations. It appears that health and nutritional disability from chemical abuse in adolescents relates more to poor dietary habits and symptomatic deterioration in general health than to specific effects on growth or nutritional status. Studies with larger numbers of subjects need to document these findings.

Abstract Background and Objectives People are now spending longer in retirement than ever before and retirement has been found to influence health. This study systematically reviewed the impact of retirement on cardiovascular disease (CVD) and its risk factors (metabolic risk factors, blood biomarkers, physical activity, smoking, drinking, and diet). Research Design and Methods Longitudinal studies published in Medline, Embase, Social Science Citation Index, PsycINFO, and Social Policy and Practice were searched. No language restrictions were applied if there was an English abstract. Eighty-two longitudinal studies were included after critical appraisals. Results Studies in the United States often found no significant effect of retirement on CVD, while studies in European countries, except France, showed a detrimental effect of retirement on CVD. Results from the United States and several European countries consistently show that retirement increase adiposity measures among those retired from physically demanding jobs. For diabetes and hypertension, five out of nine studies suggest no effect of retirement. Retirement has been repeatedly linked to increasing leisure-time physical activity but may reduce work- and transport-related physical activity in turn. Most studies showed that retirement either decreased smoking or had no effect on smoking. The evidence did not show a clear conclusion on drinking. Only a few studies have assessed the impact on diet and blood biomarkers. Discussion and Implications Effect of retirement varies according to the health outcomes studied and country of the study population. Policy concerning extending the retirement age needs to focus on ensuring they are suited to the individual.

Anthropometry involves the external measurement of morphological traits of human beings. It has a widespread and important place in nutritional assessment, and while the literature on anthropometric measurement and its interpretation is enormous, the extent to which measurement error can influence both measurement and interpretation of nutritional status is little considered. In this article, different types of anthropometric measurement error are reviewed, ways of estimating measurement error are critically evaluated, guidelines for acceptable error presented, and ways in which measures of error can be used to improve the interpretation of anthropometric nutritional status discussed. Possible errors are of two sorts; those that are associated with: (1) repeated measures giving the same value (unreliability, imprecision, undependability); and (2) measurements departing from true values (inaccuracy, bias). Imprecision is due largely to observer error, and is the most commonly used measure of anthropometric measurement error. This can be estimated by carrying out repeated anthropometric measures on the same subjects and calculating one or more of the following: technical error of measurement (TEM); percentage TEM, coefficient of reliability (R), and intraclass correlation coefficient. The first three of these measures are mathematically interrelated. Targets for training in anthropometry are at present far from perfect, and further work is needed in developing appropriate protocols for nutritional anthropometry training. Acceptable levels of measurement error are difficult to ascertain because TEM is age dependent, and the value is also related to the anthropometric characteristics of the group or population under investigation. R > 0·95 should be sought where possible, and reference values of maximum acceptable TEM at set levels of R using published data from the combined National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys I and II (Frisancho, 1990) are given. There is a clear hierarchy in the precision of different nutritional anthropometric measures, with weight and height being most precise. Waist and hip circumference show strong between-observer differences, and should, where possible, be carried out by one observer. Skinfolds can be associated with such large measurement error that interpretation is problematic. Ways are described in which measurement error can be used to assess the probability that differences in anthropometric measures across time within individuals are due to factors other than imprecision. Anthropometry is an important tool for nutritional assessment, and the techniques reported here should allow increased precision of measurement, and improved interpretation of anthropometric data.

Objectives: To assess the nutritional status of adolescent college girls by assessing the dietary intake in terms of carbohydrates,proteins, Estimating the hemoglobin levels in the study group and studying the clinical signs of malnutrition withspecial emphasis to vitamin A, iron and iodine deficiency.Design of Study: A cross-sectional study.Settings: Two Post-Graduate women colleges of Rawalpindi.Study Duration: 9 Months (From Jan 2006 to September 2006).Materials and Methods: Nutritional status of 508 adolescent girls was assessed with a questionnaire, clinical examinationand biochemical estimation (hemoglobin). The data thus collected was analyzed in July 2006 on computer with the help ofStatistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) and Excel.Results: Results revealed that 20%of girls were having BMI <18.5, 77% above 18.5% and 3% were obese. 57.09% of thegirls had goiter out of which 52.96% had palpable goiter and 4.13% had visible goiter. Pallor conjunctiva was seen in 1%girls. No clinical signs of Vitamin A deficiency were seen. Biochemical results indicated that 32.87% of the girls was sufferingfrom Iron deficiency anemia.Conclusions: Large longitudinal and cross-sectional studies, regarding nutrient consumption, dietary habits and nutritionalintervention are required in the adolescent girls. These studies can be thought provoking for the policy maker at thegovernment level. Nutritional education and health promotion can be used as tool to improve the health status of the nation.Key Words: Adolescent Health, Nutrition, Nutritional Assessment.

Abstract To test threat-to-efficacy ratios within health communications about cardiovascular disease (CVD) for older individuals. Participants were randomly assigned to one of six messages: (i) ‘standard’ message with 1/1 threat-to-efficacy ratio, (ii) ‘low efficacy’ message with 1/0 threat-to-efficacy ratio, (iii) ‘low threat’ message with 0/1 threat-to-efficacy ratio, (iv) ‘high efficacy’ message with 1/2 threat-to-efficacy ratio; (v) ‘high threat’ message with 2/1 threat-to-efficacy ratio and (vi) ‘overload’ message with 2/2 threat-to-efficacy ratio. Participants had to be of 60 years of age or older (N = 242, Male = 92, Age: M = 68.29, SD = 6.71). Advanced univariate analyses and multiple regression modelling were conducted to examine associations between the message groups, and danger- and fear-control processes, as well as the impact of threat and efficacy appraisals on the relationship between the message groups and behavioural intentions. No differences were found between the message groups for danger-control processes. Those who received the ‘overload’ message did report higher levels of fear, nervousness and anxiety in comparison to the ‘standard’ message group. For physical activity, it was found that efficacy impacted the relationship between the message groups and behavioural intentions, as participants’ levels of efficacy increased and if these individuals received high levels of efficacy information, their behavioural intentions for physical activity increased. Results from this study were dissimilar to those of previous research. However, they highlighted the impact of efficacy and negative emotional reactions when communicating to older individuals about CVD and the associated health behaviours.
