Secang wood (Caesalpinia sappan L.) is one of the local resources that contain natural pigments, namely brazilin. Brazilin is a pigment derived from Secang wood (Caesalpinia sappan L.) that is potentially used as a natural dye. This study aims to prove that Secang Wood (Caesalpinia sappan L.) can be applied as a dye in Compact Powder Blush On.The method for obtaining Secang wood (Caesalpinia sappan L.) extract uses the maceration extraction method with a sample of Secang wood (Caesalpinia sappan L.) of 250 gram and ethanol 96% then evaporated in a water bath with a temperature below 80 0C resulting in a yield of Secang wood (Caesalpinia sappan L.) extract of 27.87%. pH during the maceration process must be kept neutral, if it is not stable then it is added citric acid or sodium bicarbonate. The components of the Compact Powder Blush On are Talcum, Kaolin, Parrafin Liquid, Okside Zinc, Isopropyl myristate, and the addition of Secang wood extract (Caesalpinia sappan L.) with a concentration of 5%, 10%, 20%. Tests on preparations made include pH test, sticky power test, topical test, and stability test. The observations show that the Compact Powder Blush On preparation at a concentration of 5%, 10%, and 20% Secang wood extract (Caesalpinia sappan L.)  is pink, easily applied, has an average adhesion of 13.83%, produces a pink color when applying, and has a pH of 7. However, using Secang wood (Caesalpinia sappan L.) as a Blush On dye does not have color stability. Based on the results of the study it can be concluded that Secang Wood (Caesalpinia sappan L.) can be used as a natural dye Compact Powder Blush On, but additional ingredients are needed so that the color remains stable during storage at room temperature.

Humans need vitamin A and obtain essential vitamin A by conversion of plant foods rich in provitamin A and/or absorption of preformed vitamin A from foods of animal origin. The determination of the vitamin A value of plant foods rich in provitamin A is important but has challenges. The aim of this paper is to review the progress over last 80 years following the discovery on the conversion of β-carotene to vitamin A and the various techniques including stable isotope technologies that have been developed to determine vitamin A values of plant provitamin A (mainly β-carotene). These include applications from using radioactive β-carotene and vitamin A, depletion-repletion with vitamin A and β-carotene, and measuring postprandial chylomicron fractions after feeding a β-carotene rich diet, to using stable isotopes as tracers to follow the absorption and conversion of plant food provitamin A carotenoids (mainly β-carotene) in humans. These approaches have greatly promoted our understanding of the absorption and conversion of β-carotene to vitamin A. Stable isotope labeled plant foods are useful for determining the overall bioavailability of provitamin A carotenoids from specific foods. Locally obtained plant foods can provide vitamin A and prevent deficiency of vitamin A, a remaining worldwide concern.

Background/Aim. The vertical dimension of occlusion is a very important parameter for proper reconstruction of the relationship between the jaws. The literature describes many methods for its finding, from the simple, easily applicable clinically, to quite complicated, with the use of one or more devices for determination. The aim of this study was to examine the possibility of determining the vertical dimension of occlusion using the vocals ?O? and ?E? with the control of values o btained by applying cognitive functions. Methods. This investigation was performed with the two groups of patients. The first group consisted of 50 females and 50 males, aged 18 to 30 years. In this group the distance between the reference points (on top of the nose and chin) was measured in the position of the mandible in the vertical dimension of occlusion, the vertical dimension at rest and the pronunciation of the words ?OLO? and ?ELE?. Checking the correctness of the particular value for the word ?OLO? was also performed by the phonetic method with the application of cognitive exercises when the patients counted from 89 to 80. The obtained difference in the average values i n determining the vertical dimension of occlusion and the ?OLO? and ?ELE? in the first group was used as the reference for determining the vertical dimension of occlusion in the second group of patients. The second group comprised of 31 edentulous persons (14 females and 17 males), aged from 54 to 85 years who had been made a complete denture. Results. The average value obtained for the vertical dimension of rest for the entire sample was 2.16 mm, for the word ?OLO? for the entire sample was 5.51 mm and for the word ?ELE? for the entire sample was 7.47 mm. There was no statistically significant difference between the genders for the value of the vertical dimension at rest, ?ELE? and ?OLO?. There was a statistically significant difference between the values f or the vertical dimension at rest, ?OLO? and ?ELE? for both genders. There was a statistically significant correlation between the value for the vertical dimension at rest, ?OLO? and ?ELE?, for both groups of subjects. Conclusion. Determining the vertical dimension of occlusion requires 5.5 mm subtraction from the position of the mandible in pronunciation of the word ?OLO? or 7.5 mm in pronunciation of the word ?ELE?.

Abstract The defects into the hexagonal network of a sp2-hybridized carbon atom have been demonstrated to have a significant influence on intrinsic properties of graphene systems. In this paper, we presented a study of temperature-dependent Raman spectra of G peak and D’ band at low temperatures from 78 to 318 K in defective monolayer to few-layer graphene induced by ion C+ bombardment under the determination of vacancy uniformity. Defects lead to the increase of the negative temperature coefficient of G peak, with a value almost identical to that of D’ band. However, the variation of frequency and linewidth of G peak with layer number is contrary to D’ band. It derives from the related electron-phonon interaction in G and D’ phonon in the disorder-induced Raman scattering process. Our results are helpful to understand the mechanism of temperature-dependent phonons in graphene-based materials and provide valuable information on thermal properties of defects for the application of graphene-based devices.
