This study considered the organization of educational and extracurricular processes of the graduate department of a technical university aimed at the formation of premedical first aid skills in students. It examined the possibilities of the university divisions and the features of how educational, extracurricular, career guidance and other training work is organized in two structural divisions where the teaching staff of the department takes part in the activity under study. The paper offers examples of the author developments in teaching Health and Wellness (all Bachelor majors and training programs) to Bachelor, Master and Specialist students in groups assigned to the graduate department. The types of work that contribute to acquiring the necessary competencies by students of the Institute of Postgraduate Professional Education were analyzed. The paper shows additional possibilities of the graduate department in the organization of extracurricular and vocational guidance activities, aimed at formation of the premedical first aid skills, and gives examples of activities in which the practical component is particularly important. Introduction. The right and rational choice of the future profession is the determining factor in the life of any person. Most applicants at the time of admission to a university often have no idea of the type of activity, cannot analyze all the positive and negative aspects of the work, which therefore prevents them from choosing a suitable specialty due to lack of interests and propensity for this type of occupation. The solution to the problem here can be career guidance work. Aim and objectives. The purpose of the article is to justify the expediency of conducting vocational guidance work by universities to assist applicants in choosing future professional activities on the example of Saint Petersburg University of State Fire Service of Emercom of Russia. Result and discussion. A number of experiments were carried out to assess the importance of vocational guidance at the Saint Petersburg University of State Fire Service of Emercom of Russia. The subject of the study was a contingent of bachelors, masters and the teaching staff of the faculty. The purpose of the experiments is to determine the appearance of a highly qualified graduate by means of a questionnaire. The statistics obtained were calculated using a special computer program. The article analyses vocational guidance work in the university: its relevance, importance, necessity for students. The analysis of studies carried out in three groups: bachelor, master and faculty to determine the appearance of the future specialist is given. An approach to its implementation in the final grades of schools, during the «Open Day» in classrooms, in the training center is shown. Vocational guidance work will allow to attract to Saint Petersburg University of State Fire Service of Emercom of Russia much more applicants in the specialty «Fire safety» and the direction of preparation «Technospheric safety», thus to raise the rating of the university, and applicants to make the right choice in determining the future profession. Conclusion. Authors consider that career guidance has to be one of the main tools allowing entrants to understand, comprehend, estimate the desires, opportunities, to compare them with requirements imposed to this specialty in higher education institution.

We explain the choice of a scientific ap-proach, in which self-development is defined as the process of purposeful activity of a personality in continuous self-transformation, conscious management of your own development, choice of goals, ways and means of self-improvement corresponding to your own life values and attitudes. We define one of the main tasks of technical universities – the task of updating and managing students’ professional education, the result of which is an organically formed personality capable of self-development through self-education and self-upbringing. We formulate external factors (scientific, academic, informational, social and sports bases of the university; research and professional activities at the educational stage; upbringing work under the guidance of lecturers and supervisors; academic work under the guidance of lecturers) and internal factors (factors contributing to students’ self-learning; factors contributing to the self-realization of your own plans and ideas) affecting the readiness for self-development of the future engineer. We substantiate the main external factor – the factor of personal influence of university professors on students’ self-development. Personal characteristics of the main types of technical university teachers are highlighted. We analyze the views of various scientific schools scientists on the problem of lecturer’s personality influence on the formation of self-education and self-development abilities of students.

The review of research on historical prerequisites for the establishment of the Institute of professional orientation in the Ministry of internal Affairs of Russia is presented. The historical experience of formation and development of the system of professional education of the Ministry of internal Affairs since its establishment is studied. The analysis of documents containing proposals for improving the professional selection and training of police personnel was carried out. Special attention is paid to the formation of the Institute of professional training in the Soviet era, when its evolution demonstrated a rapid character. The author comes to the conclusion that the development of the Institute of professional orientation in the Soviet period was hindered by a number of factors: ideological (vocational guidance was regarded as a bourgeois trend), financial (insufficient funding for professional training of police officers), pedagogical (insufficient qualifications of management and teaching staff), etc. Nevertheless, for a short period of Soviet power, it was possible to form a system of professional training of police officers, which made it possible in the mid-30s to increase the educational level of specialists accepted for service in the Ministry of internal Affairs. Military actions during the great Patriotic war had weakened the evolution of training, however, in the postwar years the state authorities have again turned to this issue, that has helped open up higher educational institutions of the USSR.

The study investigated the relationship between psychological contract and job satisfaction of staff of Accra Technical University. A descriptive survey design was used with the target population being both teaching and non-teaching staff of Accra Technical University. Purposive sampling technique was used to sample a total of 300 respondents .  A total of 270 responded to the questionnaires out of a target sample of 300 staff. The study revealed that, there was a relationship between perceived psychological contract and job satisfaction. Using linear regression analysis, the study showed that an increase in the overall fulfillment of obligations and promises (psychological contract) by both Teaching and Non-teaching staff would directly cause an increase in job satisfaction. Another key finding of the study was that, in general the staff perceived they fulfilled their promises and obligations to a greater extent to the university, while the university fulfilled its promises and obligations  to a lesser extent, which meant there was inverse relation between what the staff offered to the university and what the university offered and this caused a breach of psychological contract which in turn bred job dissatisfaction. This study then recommends that management  revised its recruitment policy and emphasize on flexibility in terms of career development opportunities and endeavor to fulfill their promises and obligations (psychological contract).

The article is devoted to the process of developing a model of a pre-university in a technical university, which meets the modern requirements of a modern technical university, and provides the possibility of replication in various educational institutions of higher education of a technical profile, without reference to certain characteristics and creates the conditions for the implementation of the university’s specifics in the educational process. The article is devoted to the process of developing a pre-university model in the educational process of a modern educational institution of higher education of a technical profile, in which the pre-university is a mechanism for searching, selecting, supporting, vocational guidance and pre-university preparation of applicants for entrance examinations and training at a technical university, creates conditions for immersing students in educational and cultural environment of the university, which allows to determine to choose a profession and a university in advance, and, if necessary, to change the profile of training. The developed model takes into account the experience of various analogues of pre-university students implementing educational activities in various universities in Russia. The scientific novelty of the study is to work out all the elements of the pre-university model being created, which can be created on the basis of any technical university regardless of its starting conditions and limitations, and also provide opportunities for taking into account the specifics of the university, including: a) the creation of a system of pre-university training at the university, taking into account priority tasks in the field of recruitment and the possibility of creating conditions for ensuring the selection of various educational paths; b) the organization of coordination of career guidance at the university. The theoretical significance of the work is associated with the identification and description of the key elements of the pre-university activity regardless of the specifics of individual universities and models.
