Early Initiation Coverage (IMD) for Soppeng District based on survey data on nutritional status monitoring is still relatively low compared to the national target of 80%. So it is thought to have an impact on the prevalence of malnutrition by 22.6%, stunting 38.7%, skinny 7.7% and fat 4.5%. The purpose of this study was to look at the relationship between Early Breastfeeding Initiation and nutritional status of infants under two years at the Malaka community health centre, Lalabata District, Soppeng Regency, South Sulawesi Province. This study used a survey method with a statistical analysis approach and  cross-sectional study design. The sample size in this study was 67 people which obtained  through simple random sampling. This research was conducted in the working area of the Malaka Health Center in Lapajung Sub-district, Lalabata District from April to June 2019. The data was processed by using the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test with a probability value of 95% in SPSS. The results of the analysis of nutritional status in infants under two years based on body weight according to the average age showed that 85.1% have good nutritional status, 10.4% less nutritional status and 4.5% over nutritional status. The nutritional status based on height according to the average age showed 65.7% had normal height, 19.4% short height and 7.5% poor height. Meanwhile, based on body weight according to a height, the result showed that  83.6% had normal weight, 11.9% under weight, and 3.0% overweight. From the results of the analysis it was found that there is no relationship between Early Breastfeeding Initiation (IMD) and the nutritional status of infants under two years in the working area of the Malaka Puskesmas Lapajung Village. This happens because there are still many factors that affect nutritional status in addition to Early Breastfeeding Initiation. Therefore, it is better to conduct further research by adding research variables including sanitation and parenting.

ObjectivesThe present study aimed to estimate the prevalence of low birth weight (LBW), and to investigate the association between maternal body weight measured in terms of body mass index (BMI) and birth weight in selected countries in Africa.SettingUrban and rural household in Burkina Faso, Ghana, Malawi, Senegal and Uganda.ParticipantsMothers (n=11 418) aged between 15 and 49 years with a history of childbirth in the last 5 years.ResultsThe prevalence of LBW in Burkina Faso, Ghana, Malawi, Senegal and Uganda was, respectively, 13.4%, 10.2%, 12.1%, 15.7% and 10%. Compared with women who are of normal weight, underweight mothers had a higher likelihood of giving birth to LBW babies in all countries except Ghana. However, the association between maternal BMI and birth weight was found to be statistically significant for Senegal only (OR=1.961 (95% CI 1.259 to 3.055)).ConclusionUnderweight mothers in Senegal share a greater risk of having LBW babies compared with their normal-weight counterparts. Programmes targeting to address infant mortality should focus on promoting nutritional status among women of childbearing age. Longitudinal studies are required to better elucidate the causal nature of the relationship between maternal underweight and LBW.

Caries in infant was influenced by their substrat. Substrats are the primary source of energy in bacterial colonisingprocess in oral cavity. Streptococcus mutans are especially the main cause of tooth decay. For 1-year-old infant theprimary nutritions are generally from breast milk or formula milk. This study was aimed to determine the differentnumbers of bacterial colonizations of S.mutan found in breast-fed infants from those found in formula milk. Thisobservational-analytics study used cross sectional study design was carried out to 60 infants who fulfil the inclutioncriteria of simple random sampling method,30 infants in each group from Integrated Health Centre in Kelurahan Antang, and the bactery on the saliva was evaluated in Microbiology Laboratory of Medical Faculty Hasanuddin University. Eachparent was given questionnaire which to asks the things related with this research and microbial screening was takenfrom saliva of 1-year old infant. The number of bacterial colonizations for S.mutans in breastfeeding group shows meanvalue 19.7 CFU/ml while the formula milk group was about 37.97 CFU/ml, so the consumptions of breast milk andformula milk in 1-year old infant show the significantly different number of bacterial colonizations of S.mutans in. Itwas concluded that colonization of S.mutans in breastfeeding group lower than formula milk group.

This research was carried out with the objective of determining the association between excess weight and body composition in university students. It is an observational cross-sectional study in a public university of the State of Mexico; 64 students between 19 and 25 years old were included through a simple random sampling. Body composition was assessed based on Anthropometry with written acceptance. The results when analyzing the central obesity in the population showed that 57.81% are normal weight, 29.69% are overweight and 7.81% are obese. Also 50% of men between 20-25 years, have values ≥90 cm waist. In the case of women, the prevalence of a value above that recommended ≥80 cm was greater than 55% since the age of 19. This result indicates that most women are at greater risk from an early age. These preliminary results show how the university population reflects the high rates of overweight and obesity in Mexico. It is necessary to establish plans to prevent and reduce the prevalence of obesity and avoid its impact on chronic diseases in the future.

AbstractObjectiveTo estimate factors associated with double burden of nutritional outcomes in the mother–child dyad at the household level (child stunting and/or maternal overweight).DesignCross-sectional study using the Brazilian Demographic and Health Survey. Nutritional outcomes were: mother with normal weight and child with normal height; overweight mother and child with normal height; mother with normal weight and short-stature child; and overweight mother and child with short stature (double burden). The child was classified as short when height-for-ageZ-score was <−2 and the mother as overweight when BMI was ≥25·00 kg/m2. Socio-economic status, environment, social vulnerability, maternal characteristics and the child’s food intake were the exposure factors. The hierarchical approach for multinomial logistic regression modelling was used to assess the associations.SettingNational Demographic and Health Survey of Children and Women conducted in Brazil, 2006–2007.SubjectsMother–child dyads (n3676).ResultsAfter adjustments, lower maternal educational level (OR=3·53; 95 % CI 1·33, 9·33) and inadequate household (non-masonry house; OR=2·54; 95 % CI 1·39, 4·66) were associated with the double burden of malnutrition. Mother’s short stature (OR=3·41; 95 % CI 1·76, 6·61), child’s vegetable intake on less than or equal to 4 d/week (OR=2·21; 95 % CI 1·03, 4·75) and inadequate household (non-masonry house; OR=2·29; 95 % CI 1·36, 3·87) were associated with child’s short stature. The lack of breast-feeding (OR=2·00; 95 % CI 1·07, 3·72) was associated with maternal overweight.ConclusionsThe present findings contribute to establishing strategies promoting health and healthy diets, by considering the growth deficit and overweight/obesity concomitantly.

Background: Primary health centre (PHC) is a basic health unit to provide an integrated curative and preventive health care to the rural population as close to the people as possible, with emphasis on preventive and promotive aspects of health care. Methods: A facility based cross-sectional study was conducted in Belagavi district of Karnataka in India. Twenty PHCs, two PHCs from each of the 10 talukas of Belagavi district were selected by simple random sampling. The study period was from 1st January 2014 to 31st December 2014. Data was collected using a predesigned and structured questionnaire for IPHS facility survey. Results: In this study, only 60% of primary health centres covered the population as per the IPHS norms. All the PHCs were providing the regular outpatient department (OPD) services, referral services, antenatal care, family planning and in-patient services. Bed occupancy rate was less than 40% in 55% of PHCs. Building area in 75% of PHCs were inadequate according to IPHS norms. Residential facility for staff was available only in half of the studied PHCs.Conclusions: IPHS guidelines were not fully being followed at PHC level in the district. Though the requirement of medical officers and pharmacists was fulfilled in almost all the PHCs, deficiency was seen in the appointing of Ayush doctors and staff nurses at PHCs. There is an urgent need of recruiting the deficient staff for efficient functioning of the PHCs.

Abstract Background:Body mass index(BMI) is a commonly used international standard to measure body fat or thinness and health, and dyslipidemia is the metabolic abnormalities of lipoprotein in the human body, which are often considered have associated with high blood pressure. In this study,we explored the relationship between BMI or dyslipidemia and the risk of hypertension and further verified the possible interacting influences of BMI with dyslipidemia on the risk of hypertension. The aim is to explore the possible risk factors of hypertension and to provide scientific basis for the prevention and treatment of hypertension. Methods:Eligible subjects were selected from a cross-sectional survey in Changsha City, and we collected relevant data and clinical indicators for each participant.Body mass index(BMI) was calculated as weight (kg)/height2 (m2),and divided into four categories according to the Chinese standard.Dyslipidemia is defined according to Chinese guideline. The following indicators were used to assess the interaction effects:(1)Relative excess risk due to interaction (RERI);(2)Attributable proportion due to interaction(AP);(3)Synergy index (SI). SPSS software was used for statistical analysis. Results:A total of 2740 eligible participants were enrolled in the cross-sectional study, of which 765 subjects (27.9%) were diagnosed with hypertension.Multivariate Logistic model showed that overweight or obese subjects had a significantly higher risk of hypertension than normal weight people, and low body weight was a protective factor for hypertension(OR:0.52,95%CI:0.29-0.93).People with dyslipidemia have a higher risk of hypertension than those with normal lipids(OR:3.05,95%CI:2.36-3.90). In addition, there was a significant interaction between overweight or obesity and dyslipidemia(overweight:RERI(1.91,95%CI 0.17-3.66),AP(0.40,95%CI 0.14-0.66),SI (2.03,95%CI 1.11-3.74) and obesity:RERI (2.20,95%CI 1.01-3.40), AP (0.38,95%CI 0.18-0.58),SI (1.84,95%CI 1.18-2.89), while no interaction was found between low body weight and dyslipidemia. Conclusion:Low body weight is an independent protective factor for hypertension, but overweight, obesity and dyslipidemia are risk factors for hypertension, and dyslipidemia significantly shared interactions with overweight and obesity that influenced the risk of hypertension.
