This study aims to reveal how hyperreality is reflected in using the #BlackLivesMatter hashtag on social media. The death of an African-American, George Floyd, that involved white police, has sparked outrage and demonstrations in many U.S. states. Issues pertaining to racism sparked in relation to the event, and many people protested demanding justice. The demand for justice then went into a wave of massive global protests both in offline and online realities—the #BlackLivesMatter hashtag was widely used on social media when protests were held. The #BlackLivesMatter hashtag even became a trending topic on several social media platforms, as if everyone was concerned about the issue and aiming for the same purpose. However, we might find several posts that neither reflected nor were related to the case. Some social media users put the hashtag even though their content substance was not related. This phenomenon then led to a condition of hyperreality in questioning reality from a simulation of reality. The method used in this study is content analysis which measures the sentiment of comments on Twitter and Instagram. The study found that social networking sites mobilised online movements even though they were not directly related to the #BlackLivesMatter movement. On the other hand, hashtag activism reduced the true meaning of the social movement. Therefore, the hyperreality in #BlackLivesMatter could not be seen any longer as a form of massive protests demanding justice and ending violence, but merely to gain more digital presence on social media. Keywords: Black lives matter, movement, social media, hyperreality, hashtag activism.

The chapter investigates a specific functional category of objects of everyday life: sound-producing objects, with a focus on ordinary, simple items such as bells, clappers, and rattles, and their social function and contribution to everyday experience. After an initial overview of the types of artefacts studied and their dating, evidence from a close examination of the objects themselves is set alongside wider knowledge of their use and social context available from visual and textual sources, and historical and anthropological studies that shed light on the social function of sound-making objects. An innovative aspect of this chapter is the use of evidence from artefact replicas regarding likely notes played, and the volume of the sound produced. This directly inform understanding of the possible roles played by particular types of instruments within everyday social experience in Roman and late antique Egypt, for instance whether they were suited to public performance, more individual entertainment and play, or wider social functions such as the production of alarm sounds, and their audibility to different social groups with discrepant hearing capacity, such as young children, or elderly people. Drawing on experimental recording data including the recreation of the acoustic environment within a Romano-Egyptian house, the final section examines how the sounds produced by the objects may have contributed more widely to the creation of ambient environments and collective experiences.

The present studies investigated whether mimicry effects on empathizing depend on whether emotional expressions are seen as acted or real. In Study 1, participants saw a fragment from a reality “soap.” Half of them received an instruction to imitate facial expressions of the main character, while the other half were instructed not to imitate. Participants caught more emotions and reported more perspective-taking (taking the perspective of the target) when imitating expressions. However, among participants who assumed that the emotions were acted, imitation affected emotional contagion, but not perspective-taking. These effects were replicated in Study 2, in which we manipulated whether emotions were perceived as real. In the Discussion, these findings are linked to the social functions of imitation and to the automaticity of emotional contagion.

Institutional zakat in Islamic banking has been regulated in Article 4 Paragraph 2 of Law No. 21 of 2008 concerning Islamic Banking. Where in that article Islamic banks are allowed to perform social functions in the form of collecting zakat, donations, alms, grants, or other social funds. The activities of Islamic banks conducting social activities become additional activities for Islamic banks. In contrast to the main function of Islamic banks as an intermediary function such as the collection and distribution of public funds that are required for Islamic banks to do so, while the social functions of Islamic banks only written in the Islamic banking Act can run, meaning that Islamic banks can choose between performing social functions or not doing it. The uncertainty of the Sharia Banking Law in regulating social functions makes Islamic banks not full of seriousness in carrying out these social functions. The lack of seriousness of this Islamic bank can be seen from the 14 Sharia Commercial Banks (BUS), only 10 BUSs that carry out social functions, and there are still 4 BUSs that have not yet performed social functions. The total funds that have been successfully collected and utilized by 10 BUS in the last 2 years are in 2017 Islamic banks collect zakat funds of Rp. 76.7 billion or 1.23% of the total funds raised by BAZNAS and LAZ (Rp. 6.22 trillion). In 2018 the collection of zakat funds through BUS experienced an increase of 16% from 2017 or collected Rp. 88.9 billion or 1.1% of the total zakat funds raised by BAZNAS and LAZ (Rp. 8.1 trillion). When compared to the amount of zakat fund raised by this BUS with the potential for national zakat totaling Rp. 217 Trillions, of course the achievement is not up to 1%, this means that the collection of zakat funds by the BUS is still far from expectations.
