EBSCO’s Sociology Source Ultimate is the latest iteration of SocIndex and SocIndex full-text. The database purports to offer the broadest purview of sociological research and related literature. Sociology Source Ultimate stands out from its predecessors in the degree and extent of its full text journal offerings including 1,072 full-text journals of which 1,009 are peer reviewed, 647 peer reviewed without embargo, and 601 full text offerings that are covered by either Web of Science or Scopus. In addition, the database offers full-text access to thousands of monographs, edited volumes, conference papers and proceedings, reports, working papers, etc. Subject coverage ranges from deviant behavior to gender identity to social movements. A particularly notable feature of the database is its expansive coverage of international and foreign language journals.

(1) Background: to reveal the prevalence of non-motor disorders in Parkinson’s disease (PD), we analyzed both Russian and international studies on the issue of PD-associated non-motor disorders in Caucasian patients; (2) Methods: We have carried out a search for full-text Englishand Russian-language articles published during the last ten years (from 2010 to 2020) in PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, Springer, Clinical case, and E-library databases using multiple versions of keywords and their combinations. (3) Results: General prevalence of PD-associated non-motor disorders proved to be high. At the same time, we did not find significant differences between the prevalence of cognitive, affective, or behavioral disorders in PD patients. However, depression was found to be more common in PD patients in the Russian Federation; (4) Conclusions: According to the results of our review, cognitive and affective disorders in PD represent the issues of major concern.

A great number of researchers interested in designing and producing EFL/ESL materials believe that gender roles and representations can motivate students while learning a foreign language such as English. This comes while some scholars believe that gender representations can hinder the learning process. Ever since the day EFL/ESL experts have determined the significance of gender in EFL/ESL textbooks, a number of studies have been conducted to uncover the prejudices and biases inserted in EFL materials. Linked to previous research articles and studies, the present study aims to investigate how social gender identity is defined through adjectives and photos used in American Headway 5 published by Oxford University Press in 2016. To obtain the objective of the study, the common adjectives used in the conversation section of the American Headway 5 have been detected and counted. Then they were presented in related tables utilizing frequencies. Additionally, the photos all extracted from the book have been tested against gender biases and prejudices. The findings of the study reveal that American Headway 5attempts to demonstrate both men and women equally, albeit some instances of biases have been detected in the pictures. The findings of the current research can be used by materials developers, syllabus designers as well as EFL/ESL practitioners.

Facebook is undoubtedly the most popular social network site nowadays with over two billion users. Therefore, there has been research exploring its potential as a learning environment for various fields of education, including learning English as a foreign language (EFL). As the findings of research studies indicate, Facebook is especially used in developing productive language skills, such as writing, which is considered to be the least popular and the most difficult skill to master. Thus, the purpose of this article is to explore the impact of Facebook on developing writing skills in learning English as a foreign language. The methodology is based on the search for available studies on the research topic, i.e., the impact of Facebook on developing writing skills in EFL, in the world’s databases: Web of Science and Scopus. The search was not limited by any time period. The results of this review article reveal that using Facebook has a positive effect on developing writing skills in EFL classes, especially in shaping and organizing ideas, enhancing motivation, developing and supporting collaboration among peers, improving vocabulary, and reducing students’ shyness. However, more experimental research should be done in this area to reveal other aspects of the writing process, such as communicative language competence, which can be improved by using Facebook, as well as address researchers from continents other than Asia.

Abstract The aim of this literature review is to present a summary of the published literature relating the details of the different modifications of specimen preparation for white matter dissection with the Klingler technique. For this review, 3 independent investigators performed an electronic literature search that was carried out in the Pubmed, Scopus and Web of Science databses up to December 2019. Furthermore, we performed citation tracking for the articles missed in the initial search. Studies were eligible for inclusion when they reported details of at least the first 2 main steps of Klingler’s technique: fixation and freezing. A total of 37 full-text articles were included in the analysis. We included original anatomical studies in which human white matter dissection was performed for study purposes. The main three steps of preparation are the same in each laboratory, but the details of each vary between studies. Ten percent formalin is the most commonly used (34 studies) solution for fixation. The freezing time varied between 8 h and a month, and the temperature varied from − 5 to − 80 °C. After thawing and during dissections, the specimens were most often kept in formalin solution (13), and the concentration varied from 4 to 10%. Klingler’s preparation technique involves three main steps: fixation, freezing and thawing. Even though the details of the technique are different in most of the studies, all provide subjectively good quality specimens for anatomical dissections and studies.

Sociological research in South Africa presents characteristic features in line with its historical and political phases. This article maps the production of sociological research in South Africa during the apartheid and democratic periods. The data used in the article were drawn from the publication records of South African scholars stored in the database of the Web of Science (WoS). A total of 2342 publications representing the period 1970–2015 was sampled for this scientometric analysis. Employing appropriate statistical tests, the article examines the role of collaboration in the production of sociological knowledge in South Africa, and the relationships that exist among collaboration, international partnerships, subject areas and citations. The analysis shows that South African sociological research has distinctive characteristics that represent the two periods of study. It has benefitted from collaboration, both domestic and international. Collaboration continues to grow in specific subject fields of sociological research in South Africa, and has importance in the visibility of sociological research in the country.

The article attempts to determine the characteristics of social movements through their organizational (institutionalized) form – public associations. In the conditions of the emergence of a «new» type of society, the network, it is shown that it is public movements are becoming new institutions of public interest representation through to the crisis of traditional mechanisms of representation of interests. In connection with the complexity of the analysis of social movements, which is associated with the main characteristics of the latter: dynamic nature, absence of a clear organizational structure, the availability of various forms (protests, flashmobs , revolutions, various actions ), diverse scale of manifestation, mostly not a sufficiently long existence – it is proposed to consider the institutionalized form of social movements – public associations (organizations). It was determined the expediency of the specifics of such an approach, which consists primarily in the presence of definite correlations between social movements and public organizations. To achieve the goal of the study, it is first proposed to pay attention to two main characteristics relating to the activities of public organizations - their number and level of citizen involvement. Analysis of the results of sociological research and statistical data showed some discrepancies between official data and personal opinion of citizens regarding their participation in public organizations, which is most likely related to the specifics of the activities of these organizations in Ukrainian society. As a result, we came to the conclusion that today, social movements in Ukrainian society act primarily through a network of public organizations (women's, environmental movement, etc.) Also, social movements appear as a certain form of interaction, which is associated with crisis periods as a whole in society and in its individual spheres. It is noted that the participation of citizens in public associations in Ukraine today remains more formalized.

Background: Surgically assisted maxillary expansion has been used for the treatment of transverse maxillary deficiency in adult patients. The aim of this study is to evaluate, through a systematic review, the effect of this therapy on the dimensions of the aeropharyngeal dimensions and on the improvement of nasal ventilation. Materiel and method: 5 databases have been explored from 2010 (Pubmed, Scopus, Embase, Cochrane and Web of Science) using keywords expansion AND airway AND volum. After evaluating title, abstract and full text of articles found from databases, only 11 matching the inclusion criteria were included in the systematic review. Results: All the studies have shown that, in addition to its action on the maxillary bone, surgically-assisted maxillary expansion induces also an enlargement of the nasal floor and a reduction in airflow resistance, which promotes an improvement in nasal breathing. Conclusion: this surgical approach may lead to a modification in upper airway’s dimension and improvement of nasal ventilation.

Social movements, that have been conceptualized as new with serious transformations in their content and implementation since the 1960s, which have the potential to influence current political/social debates or decisions, has entered social life in a way that no one can easily ignore in terms of their effects. The increasing visibility and impact of social movements, especially since the 2000s, differ significantly depending on whether countries have established democracy or not. The social movements that are widespread throughout the country do not cause a radical change in the country's administration in countries with a built-in democracy culture and consciousness, like Turkey and France, through the examples of countries studied in this work. Because in these countries, there is a system in which demands could be reflected through democratic elections. On the other hand, in countries where democracy culture is not fully established, like Egypt and Tunisia, social movements are thought to have a high capacity to cause radical changes in the administration with the influence of different actors. ​Extended English summary is in the end of Full Text PDF (TURKISH) file.   Özet Güncel politik/toplumsal tartışmalara ya da kararlara yön vererek onları etkileme potansiyeline sahip olan ve 1960’lı yıllardan itibaren içeriğindeki ve uygulanış şeklindeki ciddi dönüşümler ile yeni olarak kavramsallaştırılan toplumsal hareketler etkileri itibariyle artık kimsenin kolayca göz ardı edemeyeceği bir şekilde toplumsal hayata girmiştir. Özellikle 2000’li yıllardan itibaren toplumsal hareketlerin artan görünürlüğü ve etkisi ise sonuçları itibariyle ülkelerin yerleşik bir demokrasiye sahip olup olmamasına göre önemli derecede farklılık arz etmektedir. Ülke genelinde yaygınlaşan toplumsal hareketler, bu çalışmada incelenen ülke örnekleri üzerinden yerleşik bir demokrasi kültürüne ve bilincine sahip olan ülkelerde –Türkiye ve Fransa gibi- ülke yönetiminde köklü bir değişikliğe sebep olmamaktadır. Çünkü bu ülkelerde demokratik seçimler yoluyla taleplerin yansıyacağı bir sistem bulunmaktadır. Öte yandan, demokrasi kültürü tam olarak yerleşmemiş ülkelerde –Mısır ve Tunus gibi- toplumsal hareketlerin farklı aktörlerin de etkisiyle yönetimde köklü değişikliklere yol açma kapasitesinin yüksek olduğu düşünülmektedir.

Education Source is an EBSCO database. It offers the user access to thousands of full-text journals and conference papers, millions of citations, thousands of abstracts, and hundreds of videos. These various print and media resources cover a wide variety of educational topics, including educational policy, pedagogy, communication and information in education, educational grants, and education economics, among many others.This database can be viewed in one of 32 languages. Documents can be found here using either a basic or advanced search, both of which are easily understandable and useable. Although the two searches have their own strengths and weaknesses, both can produce useful results. Pricing for this resource is determined by FTE, consortium agreements/buying groups, other EBSCO database subscriptions, and a variety of other factors. All of these can lead to considerable price variability. The licensing agreement for this database is the same as for all EBSCO resources, and its composition is standard and unre-markable (though it is a bit long, at nine pages). Content quality and quantity in this database is excellent and will certainly be of use to those researching education and related topics. However, its primary audience will be students and faculty in colleges and universities, and most probably only those with education programs, schools, or departments. It will be of only secondary use to others, and possibly too expensive for them.
