Amusement arcades called Game-centers have tried to find ways of surviving in Japan. Independent game-centers with limited financial capacities have mostly struggled to find the best possible way to survive (Livedoor, 2015; Thutmosev, 2015; Nomu, 2016; SPEEDA, 2017; Chiba, 2018; Kamohara, 2019). For them, a niche strategy may be the best possible strategic direction to survive (Thutmosev, 2015; Sankei, 2016; Hirakawa, 2019; Kamohara2, 2019). This paper will focus on game-centers’ strategies in the retro video game niche to develop a general model of game-centers’ survival strategies. We will then refine the model through interviews with senior-level employees of Japan’s most successful retro game-center.

Border disputes between China and India in June 2020 almost lead South Asian countries to take a side. But, Nepal, situated between India and China, has always expressed a stern belief in neutrality and non-alignment. Even though New Delhi doubted Nepal’s neutrality and non-alignment citing China’s growing footprints in Nepal, Kathmandu reckoned such suspicion as the result of a new map row between two countries connected by open borders. While Nepal’s repeated calls to diplomatically resolve India-Nepal border problems remained unheeded by New Delhi, it provided room for the ruling communist party in Nepal to reap geopolitical benefits out of the Sino-Indian dispute. But, interestingly, such geopolitical benefits are usually targeted in tempering Indian influence in Nepal, by getting closer with China. Apprehending the same, this study aims to assess the geopolitical implication of Sino-Indian conflict on the survival strategy of Nepal. To fulfill the same objectives, the Chinese perception of Nepal-India relations, and Indian perception of Sino-Nepal ties have been critically assessed in this study. This study is methodologically based on the information collected from the secondary sources. In order to critically evaluate the geopolitical expression of Sino-Indian conflict in Nepal, this study reviews India’s perception of Nepal-China relations, and China’s perception of Nepal-India relations. Also, the reports and the press releases of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, historical facts, treaties, government reports and decisions have been studied and analyzed. Media sources are also reviewed to understand the diverse narratives produced on the geopolitical reflection of Sino-Indian conflict. The themes that emerged from the reviews are thematically analyzed and interpreted, to discover that cultivating relations with one country at the expense of the other may be counterproductive to Nepal’s survival strategies.

People with disabilities have physical limitations and mental disorders. According to Law No. 8 of 2016 concerning persons with disabilities, people with disabilities are those who experience physical, intellectual, mental and sensory limitations for a long time in interacting with the environments who may experience obstacles and difficulties in participating fully and effectively with other citizens based on equal rights. In relates to that, women with disabilities still experience some social discrimination such as social exclusion, marginalization, stereotypes and violence which may results poverty, unemployment, and life deprivation experienced by women with disabilities as heads of households. With the discrimination they experienced, women with disabilities as human beings always tries to carry out survival strategies to meet their life and family needs. Economic problems experienced by women with disabilities makes them have to carry out a survival strategy. As an analytical tool in this study, researchers used the Subsistence Ethics Theory by Scott (1989). In the Ethical Theory of Subsistence, there are three ways of survival mechanisms, among others are to tighten spending, to have a side job, and to get help from networks outside the family. Using descriptive qualitative research, data was collected through observation, interview and documentation techniques. The data was then analyzed through the process of data reduction, data presentation and verification. The data validation uses source triangulation techniques, technical triangulation and time triangulation. From the results of the study, it can be concluded that most of the research subjects used survival mechanisms by tightening expenditures in order to increase daily expenses. In addition, they have side jobs as farm laborers, odd jobs, and also tailors; as well as utilize the local government aid to meet their daily needs.

AbstractSurvival strategies of 34 species of lichens from a range of substrata, climates and growth forms were examined using the triangular ordination procedure of Grime. Triangular ordination is apparently an appropriate technique to apply to lichens, all available data falling within a triangle except for two foliicolous species which are probably partial leaf parasites. Statistically significant relationships between survival strategy and growth form, mode of asexual reproduction, substratum preference, family affiliation, and diversity of secondary chemical biosynthetic pathways have been demonstrated.

This research is a qualitative descriptive study that aims to describe and analyze the survival strategies of rainfed farmers in the Koanyar sub-village, Klabang Bondowoso. Rainfed lowland rice farming in Koanyar Hamlet is caused by a lack of water supply, which affects dry and dead plants. Ownership of rain-fed rice fields causes farmers only to be able to plant once a year, which results in low farmer income. Therefore, farmers make various ways to survive in stressful situations. Researchers use James C. Scott's frame of mind about Survive Mechanisms. The results showed that rainfed farmers survive by saving, working side by side, maintaining good relations with patrons and increasing the ability to grow crops using a water-sucking machine, and selecting plants according to the season. AbstractThe paper presents a Hungarian Ethno-Pagan group (Bolyanest) which was established in 1979, active in and around Budapest. In the early 80s the group was a forum for New Age-like ideas: Gaia cult, esoteric concepts, natural-based peace-campaigns, yoga, Reiki and other theories about nature, love, humanity, human potentials and peace. The author analyses how this group shifted slowly from the New Age to the Neo-Pagan characteristics during the 80s. The group had a complex survival strategy, which contained several conscious and instinctual responses to the communist system. One of these was the use of espionage: having an informer within the police from among their membership to provide reports that were to benefit the movement. Another strategy was that some members joined the Socialist Party to reassure the communist authorities of their loyalty. The Hungarian society considered communism as a field of parallel realities: one was the communist system‘s narratives, and the other was the society‘s private discourses. Beside these, Bolyanest members created a third reality: the group‘s own value-system and narratives. The cognitive ability to alternate between the realities was also an important key to survival.

Climate change is affecting reef-building corals worldwide, with little hope for recovery. However, coral fossils hint at the existence of environmental stress–triggered survival strategies unreported in extant colonial corals. We document the living evidence and long-term ecological role of such a survival strategy in which isolated polyps from coral colonies affected by warming adopt a transitory resistance phase, in turn expressing a high recovery capacity in dead colony areas. Such processes have been described in fossil corals as rejuvenescence but were previously unknown in extant reef-builder corals. Our results based on 16 years of monitoring show the significance of this process for unexpected recoveries of coral colonies severely affected by warming. These findings provide a link between rejuvenescence in fossil and extant corals and reveal that beyond adaptation and acclimatization processes, modern scleractinian corals show yet undiscovered and highly effective survival strategies that help them withstand and recover from rapid environmental changes.
