This research uses the innovative Oliver Twist novel. The purpose of this study is to describe the sadness that can be taken as a lesson from the main character in the Oliver Twist novel, and to show how the sadness is presented by the main character. This research deals with how sadness affects learning and can be found in a novel by Charles Dickens. In this scientific study and research, the writer uses descriptive qualitative to describe, analyze, and discuss research problems. Other information relevant to the investigation is also being sought by the researchers. The author conducted a research question to find how sadness can be reduced by studying "Oliver Twist" in a story from a functionalist perspective, symbol perspective, conflict, and perspective. After analyzing Oliver Twist novel the author found some sadness that can make life lessons in the main character, such as fortitude, sympathy, courage, honesty, cooperation, gratitude, not giving up easily, humility, and kindness.

The aims of this research is to understand the responsibility of Mickey Haller as a lawyer. By using descriptive qualitative method, the writer will describes all things in the movie itself. The data were collected from some sources, such as books in library of Senayan ,Library of STIBA Nusa Mandiri, Google books and Website. The writer found the result of analysis about an interesting character from Mickey Haller as main character. Mickey Haller is a lawyer with high responsibility in his work. It makes him never give up on solving the case at hand. Mickey Haller is known as a lawyer who can acquit his clients from criminal penalties although most of his clients are criminal such bikers, con artist, drunk drivers, and drug dealers. Besides Mickey Haller was responsible for the work, he is also responsible for the safety of his family. He protects his children and ex-wife of the evil people who do not like him. This article addresses the issue of conflict between religious communities that cause enmity amid society. Hostilities must be overcome and resolved in accordance with the call of Christianity to live in love and peace. The study used the qualitative paradigm as the method of the research and the descriptive-analyses as the writing method by describing the research problems based on data collected from related publications.One of the powerful messages of Jesus's teaching is "Love your enemies." It’s one of the greatest challenges in life. Jesus Christ gave an important doctrine about loving the enemy because love is more powerful than evil, hurtful deeds. Loving the enemy means canceling hostilities and violence, but instead, it promises acceptance of each other. The title of this study is "love your enemies": A Christian Response to Embrace Others. As the title of this study is "love your enemies," the reason for the selection of this article is because the author sees that "loving the enemy is a commandment from God that must be obeyed. This research question emphasizes how to realize "loving the enemy" amid hostility. This paper argues that Jesus's command to love the enemy is a proper Christian lifestyle choice in the midst of hostility. We use CS Song thoughts, which elaborated with other scholars' views on theology, loving, and embracing others. The purpose of the research was to gain understanding and build a theological reflection on Jesus' commandment to love the enemy. In this article, we first briefly discuss the portrait of life among religious people in Indonesia. Secondly, we discuss the conflict between religious people in Indonesia. Finally, we apply the command of Jesus to love our enemy as a Christian lifestyle in the midst of hostility to construct harmony amid hostility. We propose the command of Jesus to ‘love your enemy’ as a response to establishing sustainable peace by embrace others. Finally, the Christians must become a loving community because God so loved us, and we also ought to love and embrace others.

Hedonism is a view of life in philosophy that seeks to avoid pain and make pleasure as the main goal in life. People who embrace hedonism tend to over-pursue pleasure. The hedonism lifestyle is mostly carried out by 18th century people especially the nobles who live in high culture. They are as close to hedonism as they are in the Persuasion novel by Jane Austen. Sir Walter Elliot the main character is a nobleman who did a lot of hedonism. Hedonism which is seen as too glorifying personal pleasure to ignore others. The purpose of this study was to find out the types of hedonism done by Sir Walter Elliot in Persuasion. This research uses descriptive qualitative method because all data are in the form of sentences. The researcher uses a philosophical approach and analyzes data using Weijers' theory as the main theory. The results of this study found that Sir Walter Elliot performed two types of hedonism, namely aesthetic hedonism and selfish hedonism.

This study aims to grasp the policy of state defense which embedded through the form of school culture which plays an important role to shape the character of state defense in Katolik Karya, Toboali Elementary School, Bangka Belitung. This also seeks to capture how state defense culture is effectivelly implemented to support the students’ character. This study uses descriptive qualitative, in which data and information are obtained through interviews, questionnaires, and documents involving principals, teachers, education staff, and students. This study found that the school already has developed policy to instill a state defense culture which is introduced by the Tunas Karya Foundation. The state defense policy is developed through a set of values which are arranged in the ten main character as a genuine of cultural product to form of student character. Schools conduct a state defense policy through habituation with a nurturing and modeling approach by teachers. This study also shows that the habituation of the ten main character values in making state defense behavior is quite effective. Based on the assessment results, the data shows that the majority of students have regularly employed the habituation of the state defense with average marks at 82 point.

The article raises the topic of space organization in writings by Frances Hodgson Burnett. The object of analysis is the novel A Little Princess. The novel, addressed primarily to children and teenagers, has many similarities with David Copperfield and the works of Charles Dickens in general. The writer largely follows the literary tradition created by Dickens. The space of the main character is divided into three levels: the Big world (states and borders), the Small world (home, school, city) and the World of imagination. The first two worlds give the reader a realistic picture of Edwardian England, the colonial Empire, through the eyes of a child reveal the themes of unprotected childhood, which the writer develops following the literary tradition of the 19th century. The Big and Small worlds also perform an educational function, being a source of experience and impressions for the main character. In the novel, the aesthetic of realism is combined with folklore and fairy-tale elements: the heroine does not completely transform the surrounding space, but she manages to change it partially and also to preserve her own personality and dignity while experiencing the Dickensian drama of child disenfranchisement, despair and loneliness. The World of imagination allows the reader to understand in full the character of Sarah Crewe, demonstrates the dynamics of her growing up, while for herself it is a powerful protective mechanism that enables her to pass all the tests of life and again become a happy child who can continue to grow up and develop.

This research analyzes the elements of personality in the main character of Sweeney Todd: The Demon of Barber of Fleet Street by Tim Burton. The researcher uses descriptive qualitative methods because the results of this research are words which are then described. In this research, the reseacher found the elements of personality in the main character of Sweeney Todd: The Demon of Barber of Fleet Street by Tim Burton such as Todd id as the desire wants to revenge Turpin and Beadle because of what they did to Todd’s family, the desire wants to kill Pirelli because he knew his the real identity, and the desire wants to kill Mrs. Lovett because she lied him. The desires as Todd’s id realized and supported by the ego. The way how ego realized all of id in Sweeney Todd, the ego does his role with an action. Thus the superego does not appear much as the id. His role only related with a good value such as when Todd wants to reveal the fake barber about his crime.Keywords: Sweeney Todd, id, ego, superego.

<p class="05IsiAbstrak">The aims of the article are to find out: 1) kinds of illocutionary acts which are produced by the main characters in “Maleficent: Mistress of Evil” movie, and 2) the most dominant illocutionary acts.  In analyzing the data, the authors used descriptive qualitative method.  The object of this study was main character’s dialogue of “Maleficent: Mistress of Evil” movie.  The authors did these following steps: watched the movie, found the transcript, identified the dialogues of main character, classified them using Searle’s theory, and interpreted the meaning of utterances.  Here are 52 utterances with illocutionary acts. The results were: 1) Representative (assertive) (65%), 2) Directive (19%), 3) Expressive (8%), 4) Commissive (6%), and 5) Declarative (2%) in scale of 100%. Representative (assertive) was the most dominant. This study can be a reference for learning pragmatics, especially illocutionary acts. The teachers can also use movie as speech acts teaching media.</p>

In this research, the researcher was focusing on the psychological conflict and the character development in which it could be found in the character of Elsa in Frozen. There were two theories that the researcher used for the research problems in this research. The first theory that the researcher used to answer the first research problem was about the psychological conflict that was proposed by Kurt Lewin to find variety of psychological conflict that was expressed by the character of Elsa in the story itself. As for the second theory that the researcher used to answer the second research problem was about the personality development which was proposed by Elizabeth B. Hurlock to explain the effect of psychological conflict to Elsa personality development. In this research, the researcher used descriptive qualitative method. The result of this analysis showed that there were two kinds of psychological conflict which was shown in Elsa character which were approach-avoidance conflict and avoidance-avoidance conflict and those two conflicts which gave a huge effect to Elsa personality development in which the researcher found that there are five determinants they are emotional, aspiration and achievement, intellectual, social, and family.

Nyai Ontosoroh is a character in Pramudya Ananta Toer's novel Bumi Manusia, which depicts a woman's struggle against injustice in her life. R. Giryadi adapted Nyai Ontosoroh's struggle in this novel into a short drama titled "Nyai Ontosoroh." The plot of this drama revolves around Nyai Ontosoroh's opposition to her husband and the Dutch government, which wants to take over the company and custody of her child. A Javanese woman's resistance to the colonial government was courageous at the time. Despite being defeated, Nyai Ontosoroh had fought for his rights in a dignified manner. She deserved to be referred to as a "hero." The purpose of this study is to explain and describe the various forms of gender injustice against women in R. Giryadi's drama script "Nyai Ontosoroh." This study is descriptive qualitative in nature. It is tailored to the formulation of determined research problems. It is a qualitative study that is thoroughly and analytically described. Forms of gender injustice against women are described. The conclusion of this paper indicates that women in Indonesia continue to face numerous gender injustices. Women must fight for gender equality as they should.

This paper analyses the research approach on the relationship between scientificscholar knowledge of the teacher and common previous knowledge of students inschool within the context of teaching, learning and conceptual change in sciences.The paper shows two sections: the first is about conceptual historical development ofthe research question. ln this sense the first question was How the students learnsciences and its transformation into the second, third , fourth and fifth question wasjustified on the light of the reading of the following works, mainly: Piaget, A usubel ,Driver, Vygotsky, and Bachelard, Canguilhem, Kuhn, Lakatos, Popper and othersauthors. The second explains the research question taking into consideration themeaning of the teacher, the pupil and the scientific knowledge in the classroom. Forthis purpose it is necessary to design a conceptual structure in order to analyze therelations, the concepts and the research problems of the teaching, learning andassessment in sciences. The structure shows the relationship of the teacher and thepupilas knowledge relationship. This is the cause why scientific knowledge must beconsidered as the hard core of the science teaching. But scientific knowledge in thiscase is seen as a product of the its historical and epistemological development andthe way as scientific knowledge changes in science is the basis forthinking aboutconceptual change of students in the classroom. The paper ends showing the aimsof the researcher engaged in this approach.
