Tamarindus indica is one of the medicinal plants used in the treatment of various diseases traditionally. Aims: This study was conducted to identify the phytochemical constituents of T. indica leaf extracts. Methods: Using Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) to identification of bioactive compounds in extracts of T. indica. Results: The FT-IR spectrum confirmed the presence of alcohol group, alkene group, amine group, carbonates, ethers, carboxylic acid and disulfides in both extracts. A total of 22 and 38 bioactive phytochemical compounds were identified in the ethanolic and aqueous extracts of T. indica, respectively. The major bioactive compounds of the ethanolic extract of T. indica leaves were cis-Vaccenic acid, trans-13-Octadecenoic acid, Oleic Acid, Octadecanoic acid, Octadecanoic acid, 2-(2-hydroxyethoxy) ethyl ester, Eicosanoic acid and Eicosane, 1-Iodo-2-methylundecane, 10-Methylnonadecane. While the major bioactive compounds of the aqueous extract were 3-O-Methyl-d-glucose, Myo-Inositol, 4C-methyl-, Myo-Inositol, 2-C-methyl-, Propane, 2,2-dimethoxy-, 1,3-Dioxolane, Ethanol, 2-(1-methylethoxy)-, and 2-Pentanone, 4-hydroxy-4-methyl-, 2-Hexanol, 2-methyl-, Ethanamine, N-methyl.

Background: The only remedy for up surging problem of antibiotic resistance is the discovery of antibacterial agents of natural origin. Objective: The present study was aimed at finding antibacterial potential of crude and solvent extracts of mature leaves of Plumeria pudica. Methods: Antibacterial activity of three different solvent extracts were evaluated in four human and four fish pathogenic bacteria by measuring the zone of inhibition and determining Minimum Inhibitory Concentration and Minimum Bactericidal Concentration values. Standard antibiotics were used as positive control. Preliminary phytochemical screening of most effective extract i.e., ethyl acetate extract, Fourier Transform Infra Red analysis and GC-MS analysis of the Thin Layer Chromatographic (TLC) fraction of ethyl acetate extract were done meticulously. All experiments were done thrice and analyzed statistically. Results: Crude leaf extracts and solvent extracts caused good inhibition of bacterial growth in all selected bacteria. Ethyl acetate extract showed highest inhibition zones in all tested strains with maximum inhibition (19.50±0.29 mm) in Escherichia coli (MTCC 739). MBC/MIC of the extracts indicated that all three solvent extracts were bactericidal. Preliminary phytochemical tests revealed the presence of tannins, steroids and alkaloids and FT-IR analysis revealed presence of many functional groups namely alcoholic, amide, amine salt and aldehyde groups. From the GC-MS analysis of TLC fraction of ethyl acetate extract five different bioactive compounds e.g., 2,4-ditert –butylphenyl 5-hydroxypentanoate, Oxalic acid; allyl nonyl ester, 7,9-Ditert-butyl-1-oxaspiro(4,5)deca-6,9-diene-2,8-dione, Dibutyl phthalate and 2,3,5,8-tetramethyl-decane were identified. Conclusion: Leaf extracts of P. pudica contain bioactive compounds that can be used as broad spectrum bactericidal agent.

Objective: Herbs are a key resource with therapeutic properties. Nowadays, there is a focus on the identification of bioactive compounds with the ability to act against various disorders. Methods: In the present study, gas chromatography–mass spectrometry analysis was conducted to determine the occurrence of different phytochemical compounds in ethanolic flower extract of Tabernaemontana divaricata (L.). Results: The ethanol extract of flower revealed the presence of several bioactive compounds such as n-hexadecanoic acid, squalene, Vitamin D3, Vitamin A aldehyde, desulfosinigrin, and Urs-12-en-24-oic acid, 3-oxo-, methyl ester, (+)-. Conclusion: The perceived compounds from ethanolic extract of flower have diverse beneficial properties such as antimicrobial, antioxidant, cancer anticipatory effect, pesticide, and antiarthritic.

The use of antioxidants has emerged as a promising therapeutic strategy for the management of mitochondrial dysfunction and other oxidative stress-related degenerative pathologies. Tetrapleura tetraptera is a well-known tree and its fruit is applied traditionally as spice and in the preparation of remedies for different ailments. In this study, the gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) analysis and mitochondrial functionality potential of T. tetraptera fruits were investigated. GC-MS was used to detect compounds in then-hexane and ethanol extracts of T. tetraptera fruits. Cupric reducing antioxidant capacity (CUPRAC) assay was used to evaluate the mitochondrial functionality potential of the ethanol extract. GC-MS analysis revealed the presence of six compounds in then-hexane extract of T. tetraptera fruits. These compounds were detected in trace quantities, the most abundant being 2,3-dimethyl-3-buten-2-ol (0.04%). The compounds: cis-vaccenic acid (35.37%), n-hexadecanoic acid (28.09%), 6-octadecenoic acid (25.21%), and octadecanoic acid (11.33%) were identified in the ethanol extract of the fruits. Consequently, the ethanol extract was subjected to CUPRAC assay. The ethanol extract exhibited a concentration-dependent high cupric reducing capacity, returning CUPRAC values in the range of 0.090 to 0.403 at the concentration of 10 – 80 μg/ml. This activity was comparable to that of the positive control, naringenin, which showed CUPRAC values of 0.059 – 0.378 at the same concentrations. These results indicate that T. tetraptera fruits possess good antioxidant property as evaluated by other related antioxidant assays. This could be attributed to a synergistic effect of the phytochemical constituents. Hence consumption of T. tetraptera fruits could be beneficial for the prevention of mitochondrial dysfunction and other oxidative stress-related degenerative disorders. Limau (Citrus amblycarpa (Hassk.) Ochse) is one of the native Citrus species of West Java that is grown in the local backyard, thus is easily found in local cuisines. Limau has great potentials for use as a potted plant in home gardens for its aesthetic value and fragrance. The objective of this research was to describe the metabolites fingerprint and morphology of Limau as a potential functional and ornamental mini tree. Methanol leaf extracts from one-year-old Limau originated from Bogor were analyzed using untargeted Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrometry (GCMS). Methanol leaf extract was dominated by vitamin E and composed of other 18 metabolites including phytosterols, fatty acids and terpenes. The major portion of fruit extract consisted of 6-octadecenoic acid, palmitate and various fragrance compounds such as alpha sinensal, alpha limonene, beta citronellal, citronellol, and sabinene. Limau fruits are also a functional food due to its rich antioxidant and aromatic content in the fruits. The morphology of limau tree is suitable as a potted ornamentals or mini-fruits tree for its small crown, sparse branching with unifoliate aromatic leaves and small spines, and plentiful aromatics mini fruits with the diameter of around 2-4 cm.

Morbidity and mortality of the infected patients by multidrug-resistant bacteria have increased, emphasizing the urgency of fight for the discovery of new innovative antibiotics. In this sense, natural products emerge as valuable sources of bioactive compounds. Among the biodiversity, Eryngium pristis Cham. & Schltdl. (Apiaceae Lindl.) is traditionally used to treat thrush and ulcers of throat and mouth, as diuretic and emmenagogue, but scarcely known as an antimicrobial agent. With this context in mind, the goals of this study were to investigate the metabolic profile and the antibacterial activity of ethanolic extract (EE-Ep) and hexane (HF-Ep), dichloromethane (DF-Ep), ethyl acetate (EAF-Ep) and butanol (BF-Ep) fractions from E. pristis leaves. Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) was performed to stablish the metabolic profile and revealed the presence of 12 and 14 compounds in EAF-Ep and HF-Ep, respectively. β-selinene, spathulenol, globulol, 2-methoxy-4-vinylphenol, α-amyrin, β-amyrin, and lupeol derivative were some of phytochemicals identified. The antibacterial activity was determined by Minimal Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) using the broth micro-dilution against eight ATCC® and five methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) clinical strains. HF-Ep was the most effective (MIC ≤ 5,000 µg/µL), being active against the largest part of tested Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacterial strains, including MRSA, with exception of Escherichia coli (ATCC 25922) and Pseudomonas aeruginosa (ATCC 9027) and (ATCC 27853). These results suggest that E. pristis is a natural source of bioactive compounds for the search of new antibiotics which can be an interesting therapeutic approach to recover patients mainly infected by MRSA strains.

Baliospermum montanum (Wild.) Muell. Arg., (Euphorbiaceae) is a well known medicinal plant which is used in treatment of various diseases. The present study was focussed on the separation and investigation of the phytochemical compounds from ethanolic extract by GC-MS technique. The mass spectra of thecompounds found in the extract were matched with the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) library. The ethanolic extract revealed the presence of 30 bioactive compounds. The major and minor phytochemical compounds are 2,15-Dithia[3](9,10)anthracenol[3](2,6)pyridinophane,1,2,3,4-tetrahydro showed the highest peak 9.32% followed by phytol-9.08%, Neophytadiene-7.38%, 8,11-Octadecadienoic acid, methyl ester (CAS)-7.06%, 4-ethyl-6-[2-(methoxycarb onyl)ethenyl]-7-[2-(methoxycarbonyl)ethyl]1,3,5,8-tetramethyl-2-vinylporphyrin-6.72%, 2-pentafluorophenylpropanal-6.43%,4,4'-Isopropylidene-bis-(2-cyclo hexyl phenol)-5.91% etc.. Further pharmacological studies are needed to find out the medicinal aspect of these compounds.

The World Health Organization reported that at least 80% of populations rely on traditional medicine and medicinal plants for their primary health care. Due to their phytochemical compounds, the plants of the Aloe genus are reported to have high potential antiCovid-19 (and antioxidant properties. The aim of this study is to evaluate the in vitro antioxidant activity of some Malagasy endangered species of Aloe genus. The ethanolic extract of few Aloe of Madagascar leaf extracts was fractionated by liquid-liquid partition using hexane. In total 18 different fractions from 9 species have been used to determine their antioxidant activity through in vitro model by using 2,2-Diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) assay. Both hexanic extract and aqueous extract displayed antioxidant activities in four species. The most evident antioxidant activity was expressed by A. helenae.

A real-time impedance-based electrochemistry assay was used for assessing the cytotoxicity effect of water extract Hibiscus Rosa-Sinensis on Vero cell line. In this study, H. rosa-sinensis was extracted by using the water extraction with three different concentration which were 200, 100 and 50 µg/mL. The phytochemical compounds in the extract were analyzed by using the Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS). The GC-MS result showed that the extract contains bioactive compounds such as n-hexadecanoic acid, pentadecanoic acid, phenol, 2,4-bis(1,1-dimethylethyl) and octadecanoic acid that have bioactive properties such as cytotoxic and antioxidant. The cytotoxic effect of the extract on normal cell line was assessed by using Real-Time Cell Analysis (RTCA) instrument. The result showed that there was no significant cytotoxicity effect against Vero cell lines. This result showed that the real-time impedance-based assay can be utilized to monitor changes of the cells and to determine the inhibitory concentration of the extract.

In the present study is phytochemicals, trace metals and antimicrobial activity of ethanolic extract of Anacyclus pyrethrum. The phytochemical screening of the crude ethanolic root, stem and leaf extracts showed the positive results of steroids, triterpenes, reducing sugar, sugar, alkaloids, flavonoids, saponin, tannins, anthraquinones and amino acids. The average mean concentrations of Cd, Cr, Cu, Fe, Ni, Pb and Zn in plant sample were BDL, 0.03, 0.42, 0.79, BDL, BDL and 0.58 mg kg-1, respectively. The descending order of the metal content in the plant sample were: Zn > Fe > Cu > Cd > Cr = Ni = Pb. Among various part of plant extracts studied for antimicrobial activity, root ethanolic extract showed highest of inhibition than leaves and stem ethanolic extracts.

Gomphrena globosa (L.) has high medicinal values. All parts are been used as folk medicines. The extract of whole plant / flowers has shown different phytochemical constituents with various clinical properties. These phytochemicals recognised are responsible for various activities such as anti-inflammatory, anticancer, antibacterial, analgesic and cytotoxic. The ethanolic extract of Gomphrena globosa L. flowers of biochemical test indicates the presence of sterols, triterpenoid, tannins, phenols and flavonoids, and on GC-MS analysis it has shown 11 phytochemical compounds with different pharmacological activities. The major bioactive compounds are Docosanoic Acid, Docosyl Ester (25.404%) and Hexatriacontane (24.324%), has proven anti-inflammatory activity.
