AbstractThe last decade has been somewhat of a renaissance period for the field of macrophage biology. This renewed interest, combined with the advent of new technologies and development of novel model systems to assess different facets of macrophage biology, has led to major advances in our understanding of the diverse roles macrophages play in health, inflammation, infection and repair, and the dominance of tissue environments in influencing all of these areas. Here, we discuss recent developments in our understanding of lung macrophage heterogeneity, ontogeny, metabolism and function in the context of health and disease, and highlight core conceptual advances and key unanswered questions that we believe should be focus of work in the coming years.

The Historical rozkosz (pleasure, delight): On the Understanding and Evaluation of the Concept on the Basis of the Use of the Lexeme rozkosz SummaryThis article is devoted to the reconstruction of the manner of understanding and evaluation of the concept rozkosz (pleasure, delight) in the Old, Middle and subsequent periods of the development of the Polish language, until the early twentieth century, when the modern understanding of this concept was established. The analysis focuses on the contextual uses of the lexeme rozkosz and reveals the dichotomous nature of the early concept: from the Old Polish period until the breakthrough of the Enlightenment there was the rozkosz duchowa (spiritual delight), motivated in a religious way and evaluated positively, and the rozkosz cielesna (carnal, sensual pleasure), reduced to sin and burdened with a negative evaluation. From the Renaissance period the concept slowly expanded to cover various spheres of life, and after the breakthrough period of the Enlightenment it became more marked: rozkosz came to refer to the social, aesthetic and intellectual sphere and it began to lose its religious basis. This process was accompanied by the decline of the evaluation and the dichotomy of the concept.

The background for Shakespearean studies gains importance in an interdisciplinary context. The thesaurus approach of studying Shakespeare, his contemporaries, and the daily life of his epoch helps to concentrate on the aspect of interdisciplinary studies of Shakespeare's creative works. Following this task, the author of the article researches the key areas of Shakespearean studies. Today, Shakespeare is not only the genius of Anglo-Saxon literature, but also one of the pillars of Anglo-American educational system both at school and at university. Shakespearean studies have long gone beyond the framework of the English-speaking cultures. Turning to Shakespeare, researchers of the largest educational centers of the world study not only the literature of the late Renaissance period, the evolution of Shakespearean poetics in the context of world culture, Shakespearean allusions in national literatures, not only the development of dramaturgy, the history of the theatre, music, the cinema, but also other disciplines seemingly unconnected to the world artistic culture. The research oriented at philosophical understanding of the great playwright's work has gained special significance for scientific and teaching activity. Studying Shakespeare's work in the 21st Century is closely connected to the Internet and information technologies. In a sense, the thesaurus approach in modern humanities should be transformed and become a method of analyzing the concepts and conceptospheres that form thesauri.

AbstractThe surface coating present on a marble Piety dating to the Renaissance period and stored at the Castello Sforzesco-Museum of Ancient Art (Milan, Italy) was studied and chemically characterised. For this purpose, both portable non-invasive (XRF and colorimetric measurements) and micro-invasive techniques (FTIR-ATR and SEM-EDS), have been applied. The statue has been recently submitted to a restoration, since its surface appeared dark and yellowed, before an exhibition at the Louvre Museum and the original appearance of the marble surface recovered thanks to the surface coating removal. Through the analytical characterisation carried out before and after the marble cleaning, the presence of a degradation layer composed by gypsum was evidenced on the stone. The origin of this layer is ascribable to the exposure of the statue to outdoor environment and interaction with atmospheric pollution. The chemical nature of the coating applied at the end of nineteenth century also responsible for the surface alteration was hypothesized.

Just as tragic heroes and heroines have been identified with different eras and cultures, the classical ideal of the classical and post-classical Renaissance will be incomplete if the concept of tragedy is not focalized. This paper, therefore, looks at how both periods delineated their tragic heroes, based on their actions portrayed in the plots of their plays. The paper, using textual analysis, provides extracts from William Shakespeare's King Lear, as the main text to present King Lear as the post-classical tragic hero. This is juxtaposed with extracts from Sophocles’ King Oedipus, as the main text, and Euripides’ Iphigenia in Tauris, as a hero supporting text to present Oedipus as the classical hero. Whereas textual analysis shows that the delineation of the tragic hero lies in the source of the tragic situation – the concept of hamartia of the classical period, the post-classical Renaissance period portrays the tragic hero on the basis of the weakness of character.

From the medieval past we can single out several kings-poets, kings-scientists and scholars, education reformers, of whom Vakhtang VI deserves great respect.Versatile and varied turned out to be his genius and spectacle as well. Not to mention the writing, where he said a decent word. Despite the difficult political situation, King Vakhtang VI still managed to create a prosperous cultural and educational environment in the country. With his initiative and support, the first printing house was established in Georgia in 1709. With the revival of the printed word, writing opened up vital space, giving more thought to thinking.By printing "The Knight in the Panther's Skin" the foundation was laid for the scientific study of the text of the poem - the work of restoration, the foundation was given to the most important field - Rustvelology. The literature of the Renaissance period is characterized by a number of novelties associated to the name of the King Vakhtang VI. The King, endowed with creative talent, contributed in every way to the development of new fields of science, the introduction of new themes and genres in literature. Understanding the national problem, trying to establish it and turning it into a spiritual need is the niche of Vakhtang's creativity. The only spiritual refuge of the king tired of life was the Christian faith. "The elaboration of religious themes, the cry to God, in addition to bringing spiritual peace to the deeply believing poet, at the same time he promoted the ideas of Christianity among the people and strengthened the religious faith.King Vakhtang VI not only enriched the Georgian literature with his original works, but also greatly contributed to his translation activities. His role in the development of lexicography was also great. The genius of Vakhtang VI can be discussed endlessly. It means a lot even to the fact that the history has survived in the name of the "lawgiver" king.
