Inclined uniform magnetic field and mixed convention effects on micropolar non-Newtonian nanofluid Al2O3 flow with heat transfer are studied. The heat source, both viscous and ohmic dissipation and temperature micropolarity properties are considered. We transformed our system of non-linear partial differential equations into ordinary equations by using suitable similarity transformations. These equations are solved by making use of Rung–Kutta–Merson method in a shooting and matching technique. The numerical solutions of the tangential velocity, microtation velocity, temperature and nanoparticle concentration are obtained as functions of the physical parameters of the problem. Moreover, we discussed the effects of these parameters on the numerical solutions and depicted graphically. It is obvious that these parameters control the fluid flow. It is noticed that the tangential velocity magnifies with an increase in the value of Darcy number. Meanwhile, the value of the tangential velocity reduces with the elevation in the value of the magnetic field parameter. On the other hand, the elevation in the value of Brownian motion parameter leads to a reduction in the value of fluid temperature. Furthermore, increasing in the value of heat source parameter makes an enhancement in the value of nanoparticles concentration. The current study has many accomplishments in several scientific areas like medical industry, medicine, and others. Therefore, it represents the depiction of gas or liquid motion over a surface. When particles are moving from areas of high concentration to areas of low concentration.

Hydropower is a superior energy extraction approach, which has been made to work based on renewable energy sources. In the generation of hydropower, Gravitational Vortex Hydropower (GVHP) plays a predominant contributor role because of its free turbulence-relayed energy utilization concept and flexible as well as compact size. Owing to the huge contribution of GVHP in the hydropower sector, multi-objective-based investigations have emerged. However, there is still insufficient literature available for the technology to precede optimum turbine blade design. Two important categories are involved in these multidisciplinary investigations, in which the first phase, a numerical investigation has been done using ANSYS to identify the location of maximum tangential velocity in a conical basin with different notch angles, conical angles, basin shapes, anddiameters. In this second phase, the focal aim is to carry out the numerical investigation on Gravitation Vortex Turbine Blades (GVTB) for the different geometry in order to get the optimum power output with a high structural lifetime through HSI (Hydro–Structural Interaction) computation. The entire conceptual designs of this SGVHP and its hydro-rotors are modeled with the help of CATIA. ANSYS Fluent is a CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) numerical tool, which is primarily used in this paper for all the hydrodynamic analyses. Finally, the standard analytical approaches are used for the comparative determinations of thrust production by hydro-rotors, power extraction by hydro-rotors, and propulsive efficiency for the selection process of best hydro-rotors. HSI analyses are additionally carried out and thereby the suitable lightweight material is picked.

Abstract The analysis of the interaction between the swirling and liner film-cooling flows is a fundamental task for the design of turbine combustion chambers since it influences different aspects such as emissions and cooling capability. Particularly, high turbulence values, flow instabilities, and tangential velocity components induced by the swirlers deeply affect the behavior of effusion cooling jets, demanding for dedicated time-resolved near-wall analysis. The experimental setup of this work consists of a non-reactive single-sector linear combustor test rig scaled up with respect to engine dimensions; the test section was equipped with an effusion plate with standard inclined cylindrical holes to simulate the liner cooling system. The rig was instrumented with a 2D Time-Resolved Particle Image Velocimetry system, focused on different field of views. The degree of swirl is usually characterized by the swirl number, Sn, defined as the ratio of the tangential momentum to axial momentum flux. To assess the impact of such parameter on the near-wall effusion behavior, a set of three axial swirlers with swirl number equal to Sn = 0.6 − 0.8 − 1.0 were designed and tested in the experimental apparatus. An analysis of the main flow by varying the Sn was first performed in terms of average velocity, RMS, and Tu values, providing kinetic energy spectra and turbulence length scale information. Following, the analysis was focused on the near-wall regions: the effects of Sn on the coolant jets was quantified in terms of vorticity analysis and jet oscillation.

Abstract This paper presents a comparative experimental and numerical study of the heat transfer and pressure loss in a swirl multi-pass channel with tangential jet slots, and another baseline multi-pass channel with 180-deg U-bends as comparison baseline has also been investigated. Transient liquid crystal thermography is used to obtain the detailed heat transfer distribution on the internal surfaces of the multi-pass serpentine channels. The heat transfer patterns in the swirl multi-pass channel are quite different from that of the baseline multi-pass channel. Compared with the baseline multi-pass channel, the experimental globally averaged Nusselt number ratios of the last two passes in the swirl multi-pass channel can be increased by up to 82.9%, 104.8% and 124.6% for the Reynolds numbers 20,000, 40,000 and 60,000, respectively. The high and circumferentially uniform heat transfer is mainly due to the large-scale swirling flow induced by the tangential slots. More detailly, the large-scale swirling flow impinges onto the surface and further induces high tangential velocity near the wall, which destroys the boundary layer flow and thus improves the heat transfer rates at the wall. However, the notable pressure loss of the swirl multi-pass channel should be further controlled reasonably, which is about 5.4 times that of the baseline multi-pass channel. As supplements to the experiments, three-dimensional numerical computations provide more insights into the turbulent flow structure in the two kinds of multi-pass serpentine channels.

AbstractOrigin of scale coupling may be clarified by the understanding of multistability, or shifts between stable points via unstable equilibrium points due to a stimulus. When placed on a glasstop hotplate, cobs of corn underwent multistable autonomous oscillation, with unsteady viscous lubrication below and transitional plumes above, where the buoyancy to inertia force ratio is close to ≥ 1.0. Subsequently, viscous wall-frictional multistability occurred in six more types of smooth fruit with nominal symmetry. Autonomous motion observed are: cobs roll, pitch and yaw; but green chillies, blueberries, tropical berries, red grapes, oblong grapes and grape tomatoes roll and yaw. The cross products of the orthogonal angular momentum produce the observed motion. The prevalence of roll and yaw motion are the most common. Lubricant film thickness h$$\propto$$ ∝ U/(TF), for cob mass F, tangential velocity U and temperature T. In heavier cobs, the film thins, breaking frequently, changing stability. Lighter cobs have high h, favoring positive feedback and more spinning: more T rises, more viscosity of water drops, increasing U and h more, until cooling onsets. Infrequent popping of the tender corn kernel has the same mean sound pressure level as in hard popcorn. The plume vortex jets lock-in to the autonomous rolling cob oscillation. Away from any solid surface, the hot-cold side boundary produces plumes slanted at ± 45°. Surface fencing (13–26 μm high) appears to control motion drift.

Abstract We present the discovery of CWISE J052306.42−015355.4, which was found as a faint, significant proper-motion object (0.″52 ± 0.″08 yr−1) using machine-learning tools on the unWISE re-processing of time series images from the Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer. Using the CatWISE2020 W1 and W2 magnitudes along with a J-band detection from the VISTA Hemisphere Survey, the location of CWISE J052306.42−015355.4 on the W1 − W2 versus J − W2 diagram best matches that of other known, or suspected, extreme T subdwarfs. As there is currently very little knowledge concerning extreme T subdwarfs we estimate a rough distance of ≤68 pc, which results in a tangential velocity of ≤167 km s−1, both of which are tentative. A measured parallax is greatly needed to test these values. We also estimate a metallicity of −1.5 < [M/H] < −0.5 using theoretical predictions.

Abstract Hydropower is a renewable technology to store the amount of electricity which is the least expensive. Gravitational Water Vortex Power Plant is an ultra-low head micro hydropower system working ranging from 0.7 m to 2m without having the needs of a large reservoir and installation area. Several researches have been conducted on its basin configuration, orifice diameter, blade configuration, the geometry of the basin shape but not onto the addition of the diffuser at the inlet channel. The function of the diffuser is to direct the water into the basin allowing the water vortex to travel towards the tangential direction where this phenomenon will increase the rate of speed flow through the turbine. The simulation results showed that the addition of the diffuser has significantly increased the tangential velocity and the kinetic energy of the vortices. The increase in the velocity of the flow increased the height of the vortex which also led to the increase in the strength of the vortex and affects the vortex uniformity.

A general methodology for the dynamic modelling and analysis of planar multi-body systems with a continuous friction model in joint clearance is presented. Joint clearance is the critical factor that influences the dynamic response and the performance of mechanisms for high-speed application. In light of recent developments in the joint clearance studies, the number of contact force models has been introduced with ignoring friction continuity. The selection of an appropriate continuous friction model is still challenging and essential, which requires further development. Therefore, a perfect continuous friction model, including the Stribeck effect, static, dynamic and viscous friction terms, is proposed and validated. Investigating the dynamic modelling and analysis of double rocker four-bar linkage mechanisms with frictional revolute clearance joints is presented to investigate friction models' effect when surfaces collide with a non-zero tangential velocity. Unlike the smooth crank input mechanism, a double rocker four-bar linkage mechanism is analysed as a challenging problem in the impact mode. Resolving this concern, the novel friction model avoids discontinuity at zero velocity considering the accurate static friction zone. The results reveal that the novel friction model, compared with the piecewise friction model, is more effective in reflecting the mechanical systems' dynamic behaviour. In order to grasp the nonlinear characteristics of the high-speed four-bar linkage mechanism with our model in joint clearance, the Poincaré portrait, and Fast Fourier transformation plot are employed. It is proved that chaos exists in the dynamic response with the influence of the restitution coefficients and kinetic coefficient of friction.

At present, most of the incoming liquids from the oilfield combined stations are not pre-separated for natural gas, which makes the subsequent process of oil-water separation less effective. Therefore, it is necessary to carry out gas-liquid separation. A new type of axial flow gas-liquid separator was proposed in this paper. The numerical simulation was carried out by CFD FLUENT software, and the changes of concentration field, velocity field and pressure field in the axial flow gas-liquid separator were analyzed. It was found that there were gas-liquid separation developments and stabilization segments in the inner cylinder of the separator. The axial velocity will form a zero-speed envelope in the inner cylinder, and the direction of the velocity in front of and behind the zero-speed envelope was opposite. The tangential velocity showed a “W” shape distribution in the radial position of the inner cylinder. The pressure on the left wall of the guide vane was higher than that on the right side. Therefore, the left wall was more likely to be damaged than the right wall.

Cyclone is often used in the Industry due to its low maintenance costs, simple design, and ease of operation. This work presents both experimental and simulation evaluation on the effect of inlet velocity and mass flow rate on the performance of a wheat conveying cyclone. According to the great importance of the pressure drop and separation efficiency on the separation phenomenon in the cyclone, a comprehensive study has been conducted in this regard. A computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation was realized using a Reynolds stress turbulence model, and particle-air interactions were modeled using a discrete phase model. The result showed a good agreement between the measured value and CFD simulation on the pressure drop and tangential velocity with a maximum deviation of 6.8%. It was found that the separation efficiency increased with inlet velocity up to 16 m s−1 but decreased slightly at a velocity of 20 m s−1. The pressure drop increased proportionally with inlet velocity. However, optimum performance with the highest separation efficiency (99%) and acceptable pressure drop (416 Pa) was achieved at the inlet velocity of 16 m s−1 and mass flow rate of 0.01 kg s−1.
