Introduction: Mucositis is a well-known side effect of classic anticancer treatments (chemotherapy and radiotherapy). Thanks to the major developments in personalizing treatments through the development of targeted treatment, various specific intraoral lesions have been described. Purpose: mTOR inhibitors are targeted anticancer treatments that are used to treat various cancer types. They can cause intraoral ulcerations that can be serious, and that can lead to a dose reduction or the anticancer treatment being stopped altogether. The management of these disabling and painful lesions is a major part of ensuring the efficiency of the cancer treatments. The objective of this article is to evaluate the current knowledge about the different treatments used nowadays, especially the preventive treatments. Conclusion: An efficient management of the lesions is a major part of the management of patients treated with mTOR inhibitors and should be carried out by the oral cavity specialists.

e18805 Background: Approximately 20% of newly diagnosed cancer patients are between the ages of 20 and 54, and many of these patients are also the primary caregivers of children. Qualitative studies focusing on this demographic indicate that patients who are parents struggle to balance their own care needs with those of their children. Further, a lack of childcare support during cancer treatments can negatively impact compliance and increase existing psychological stress for patients. In the efforts to establish a child-minding program at a major Canadian cancer centre, we carried out an environmental scan to evaluate the current state of childcare support for cancer patients. Methods: Firstly, a literature scan was conducted in order to assess current knowledge about childcare and cancer patients, which included the use of search engines, directed internet searches, a review of oncology conference proceedings and websites of oncology associations. Literature was selected based on pre-determined criteria. Secondly, 12 representatives from major Canadian cancer centres (CCC) completed a questionnaire assessing current childcare strategies at their respective institutions. Finally, a broad scan of the grey literature was conducted by investigating 161 Canadian and American hospitals for on-site childcare services, using lay-accessible searching techniques (hand-searching hospital websites, phone and email correspondences). Results: The literature scan identified seventeen primary articles, which focused largely on exploring the role strain faced by patients who are also parents. A single study explored the instrumental challenges of being a parent with cancer, and formally assessed the childcare needs of these patients. The questionnaire results indicated that only two of the twelve investigated CCCs had established an approach to child-minding for patients. The grey literature scan identified twenty-six on-site, patient-accessible child-minding centres at hospitals in Canada and the US based on pre-determined inclusion criteria. Of these, 76.9% of centres were associated with pediatric hospitals, and 69.2% were located in the United States. Most centres (76.9%) were open for over 30 hours per week, and 88.5% of centres were free of charge to users. Conclusions: These findings generally indicate that a minority of Canadian and American hospitals and cancer centres have formal childcare services in place to support patients who are also parents. As cancer patients are at increased risk for financial toxicity, they may be particularly in need of this kind of instrumental support. This highlights the importance of carrying out a targeted needs assessment in order to fully elucidate the need for patient-accessible childcare services at CCCs.

Anti-cancer treatments (surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy) lead to numerous sequelae and side effects, unpleasant or even disabling in the oral cavity. In the absence of appropriate dental care, the consequences can be highly detrimental.The side effects of radiotherapy, the loss of substances following often associated surgical interventions and the unfavorable context of these patients require rational planning and consultation approved by the various practionners.The management of patients before, during and after these anticancer treatments by the specialist in maxillofacial prosthesis is important, in fact the objectives outlined to be achieved in terms of the management of PMF are: restoration of orofacial functions, participation in the proper conduct of anticancer treatment, palliation of its complications and psychological support for these patients.The aim of this article is to review the various complications of radiotherapy, as well as the protocols and recommendations for the management of patients before radiotherapy and to highlight the role of the specialist in maxillofacial prosthodontics in this management.

Neuroendocrine neoplasias (NENs) are a heterogeneous group of rare tumors scattered throughout the body. Surgery, locoregional or ablative therapies as well as maintenance treatments are applied in well-differentiated, low-grade NENs, whereas cytotoxic chemotherapy is usually applied in high-grade neuroendocrine carcinomas. However, treatment options for patients with advanced or metastatic NENs are limited. Immunotherapy has provided new treatment approaches for many cancer types, including neuroendocrine tumors, but predictive biomarkers of immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) in the treatment of NENs have not been fully reported. By reviewing the literature and international congress abstracts, we summarize the current knowledge of ICIs, potential predicative biomarkers in the treatment of NENs, implications and efficacy of ICIs as well as biomarkers for NENs of gastroenteropancreatic system, lung NENs and Merkel cell carcinoma in clinical practice.

AbstractMyeloid disorders are conditions being characterized by abnormal proliferation and development of myeloid lineage including granulocytes (neutrophils, eosinophils and basophils), monocytes, erythroids, and megakaryocytes precursor cells. Myeloid leukemia, based on clinical presentation and proliferative rate of neoplastic cells, is divided into acute (AML) and myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPN). The most commonly myeloid leukemia reported in horses are AML-M4 (myelomonocytic) and AML-M5 (monocytic). Isolated cases of AML-M6B (acute erythroid leukemia), and chronic granulocytic leukemia have also been reported. Additionally, bone marrow disorders with dysplastic alterations and ineffective hematopoiesis affecting single or multiple cell lineages or myelodysplastic diseases (MDS), have also been reported in horses. MDSs have increased myeloblasts numbers in blood or bone marrow, although less than 20%, which is the minimum level required for diagnosis of AML. This review performed a detailed description of the current state of knowlegde of the myeloproliferative disorders in horses following the criteria established by the World Health Organization.

It has become a standard measure in recent years to utilise evidence-based practice, which is associated with a greater need to implement and use advanced, reliable methods of summarising the achievements of various scientific disciplines, including such highly specialised approaches as personalised medicine. The aim of this paper was to discuss the current state of knowledge related to improvements in “nursing” involving management of delirium in intensive care units during the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. This narrative review summarises the current knowledge concerning the challenges associated with assessment of delirium in patients with COVID-19 by ICU nurses, and the role and tasks in the personalised approach to patients with COVID-19.

Oncolytic viruses have emerged as a promising strategy for cancer therapy due to their dual ability to selectively infect and lyse tumor cells and to induce systemic anti-tumor immunity. Among various candidate viruses, coxsackievirus group B (CVBs) have attracted increasing attention in recent years. CVBs are a group of small, non-enveloped, single-stranded, positive-sense RNA viruses, belonging to species human Enterovirus B in the genus Enterovirus of the family Picornaviridae. Preclinical studies have demonstrated potent anti-tumor activities for CVBs, particularly type 3, against multiple cancer types, including lung, breast, and colorectal cancer. Various approaches have been proposed or applied to enhance the safety and specificity of CVBs towards tumor cells and to further increase their anti-tumor efficacy. This review summarizes current knowledge and strategies for developing CVBs as oncolytic viruses for cancer virotherapy. The challenges arising from these studies and future prospects are also discussed in this review.

AbstractDevelopment of candidate cancer treatments is a resource-intensive process, with the research community continuing to investigate options beyond static genomic characterization. Toward this goal, we have established the genomic landscapes of 536 patient-derived xenograft (PDX) models across 25 cancer types, together with mutation, copy number, fusion, transcriptomic profiles, and NCI-MATCH arms. Compared with human tumors, PDXs typically have higher purity and fit to investigate dynamic driver events and molecular properties via multiple time points from same case PDXs. Here, we report on dynamic genomic landscapes and pharmacogenomic associations, including associations between activating oncogenic events and drugs, correlations between whole-genome duplications and subclone events, and the potential PDX models for NCI-MATCH trials. Lastly, we provide a web portal having comprehensive pan-cancer PDX genomic profiles and source code to facilitate identification of more druggable events and further insights into PDXs’ recapitulation of human tumors.

AbstractThe seeds of flowering plants are sexually produced propagules that ensure dispersal and resilience of the next generation. Seeds harbor embryos, three dimensional structures that are often miniatures of the adult plant in terms of general structure and primordial organs. In addition, embryos contain the meristems that give rise to post-embryonically generated structures. However common, flowering plant embryos are an evolutionary derived state. Flowering plants are part of a much larger group of embryo-bearing plants, aptly termed Embryophyta. A key question is what evolutionary trajectory led to the emergence of flowering plant embryos. In this opinion, we deconstruct the flowering plant embryo and describe the current state of knowledge of embryos in other plant lineages. While we are far yet from understanding the ancestral state of plant embryogenesis, we argue what current knowledge may suggest and how the knowledge gaps may be closed.

This paper aims at providing an overview on the current state of the art and on possible future developments concerning the component method implementation for the classification of beam-to-column joints belonging to aluminum moment resisting frames.After a brief discussion on the component method theoretical bases, developed in the past to give a feasible calculation procedure for steel joints, recent experimental and numerical studies, carried out for investigating some aluminum components, are presented and discussed. In particular strengths and weaknesses of the current knowledge are put into evidence, also in light of the peculiarities that make aluminum alloys different from steel. The launch of new research fields, aimed at pursuing an update of the current codes dealing with aluminum structures, is therefore proposed.
