The social identification of managers is divided into deep and shallow. The authors give the comparative analysis of the social identification of managers and entrepreneurs through its types, as well as through the determination of these types by various factors. Among entrepreneurs, the shares of those who have and those who do not have a conscious, deep identification with their social and professional group are approximately the same. The same situation is among managers. In addition, the authors studied the influence of gender, age, material situation, level of education, secondary employment and other factors on the determined types. Gender does not affect these types of social identification. The real factors also include the additional work, age, the use of competencies, satisfaction with the results of activities and membership in professional associations.

The paper examines the diverse ways of self-definition of individuals in a changing reality, which is attributed to a hybrid and ambiguous character. The emphasis is on identity discourse in the individual dimension. While questioning the possibility of clearly defining the Self in the world of diverse relations and ambiguous social reality, a dilemma arises: one identity or many identities? It should be pointed out here that there is a transition from identity as a complex and dynamic attribute (aspect) of the individual to the multiplicity of individual identities as a variety of its identifications with the objects of the social world. More radically, doubts can be raised here about the usefulness of the category of identity. Behind such thinking are not merely methodological difficulties in recognizing the different dimensions and contexts in which the individual defines his or her identity or identities. It is certainly possible to speak here of a different meaning attributed to the category of identity, especially in its theoretical-cognitive sense. The consequence of this is also the different meaning that is attributed to the utility of this category, i.e. its instrumental use for the self-determination of individuals. The stronger the adherence to the terminology of modernity, the stronger the indication of a possible and fully conscious (reflexive) project that identity may become for the constructively acting individual. Departure from modern nomenclature complicates the issues of defining identity itself, and thus also does not make the task easier in the sphere of social practice and does not provide easy utilitarian solutions. Moreover, the difficulties concern not only what individual identity is (or could be) in the functional sense, but also its very structure and the fundamental question of its durability (or at least relative stability) in the context of individualization.

The Middle class of society performs many useful and significant functions in the development of any state. To conduct a balanced socio-economic policy, the state needs to know the social structure of society, including the share of the middle class in the total population, as well as the dynamics of its development. To this end, the paper substantiates the author's criteria for distinguishing the middle class among employees by level of education and professional status. The size of the middle class in Russia is determined for each of the above criteria separately and in their entirety. A comparative analysis of the results obtained is presented, based on which, at the end of the work, directions for increasing the middle class in the country are proposed.

This paper aims at discussing the image of women in contemporary Indonesian Islamic literature after the ‘Indonesian Reformation’ in 1998. In contrast to the previous era, the images of women in this period are presented differently by male writers. Women are depicted more moderate and progressive. This paper applies the method of sociology of literature whereby literature is regarded as a reflection of its society. It employs content analysis of the text to see how Javanese Muslim women are depicted and how the depiction reflects the society. Two novels discussed in this paper are Cinta Suci Zahrana by Habiburrahman El Shirazy and Perempuan Badai by Mustofa W. Hasyim. The results show that these novels raise various issues of Muslim women in contemporary Indonesia. They show that there is a development in presenting the image of Muslim women in Indonesia. There is a development of thoughts, especially about the social status of women. The changes include the level of education, determination of spouse and freedom to participate in public spheres. The level of education obtained by the main characters is an essential milestone in changing women’s position in Indonesian Muslim society. Women are not just an object, but they should be the subject in the life of the Muslim community.

At present, the problem of establishing disability is a point at issue in Russia. Despite the fact that medical criteria for disability are being developed very actively, high-quality methods for assessing social hallmarks are still lacking. Since disability is a phenomenon inherent in any society, each state forms a social and economic policy for people with disabilities in accordance with its level of development, priorities and opportunities. We have proposed a three-stage model, which includes a system for the consistent solution of the main tasks aimed at studying the causes and consequences of the problems encountered today in the social protection of citizens with health problems. The article shows why the existing approaches to the determination of disability and rehabilitation programs do not correspond to the current state of Russian society and why a decrease in the rate of persons recognized as disabled for the first time does not indicate an improvement in the health of the population. The authors proposed a number of measures with a view to correcting the situation according to the results of the study.
