AbstractWe have developed test inventory as an analysis of mental models on heat and temperature topics. This development research based on the importance of knowing the level of students' mental models. The mental models are a student’s internal representation of understanding a concept. This study uses a 4-D model. The product being produced is a mental model analysis consists of open-ended questions. Furthermore, mental models test were tested on respondents (N = 90) to measure the validity and reliability. The test that has been developed consists of 8 questions with a value of reliability is 0.667. Based on data analysis, the test of mental models on heat and temperature topics is feasible to use as an assessment instrument.

Constructing the 3-D mental structure from viewed 2-D orthographic displays may require establishing both the relative depth relation (RD) between adjacent areas in the orthographic displays and the exact magnitude of absolute depth (AD) for a given area. We examined the processes of depth assignment involved in 3-D model construction by asking subjects to mentally imagine the 3-D object portrayed by a pair of orthographic projections, and then choose among four alternative isometrics the one that matched the imagined 3-D model. One alternative corresponded to the previously shown orthographic views (ie, target). The other alternatives were distractors that differed from the target in terms of RD, AD, or both. Results from four experiments show that (a) when subjects mistook a distractor for target, they were more likely to misidentify the distractor sharing the same RD with target but with different AD, than to misidentify the distractor sharing the same AD but with different RD; (b) subjects could shorten their solution time by 40% without greatly compromising their performances when times available for imagining 3-D models were reduced in proportion to those consumed in a self-pacing condition. The implications of these results are discussed in terms of a model in which an observer may try to decide the relative depth prior to figuring out the exact absolute depth, although it is necessary to consider both aspects of depth assignment in the construction of 3-D mental models.

Abstract Fluid dynamics has some complex and unobservable concept, however, tests are rarely developed to measure students’ understanding of these concepts. This condtion make a difficulty to map students’ mental models with existing instruments. Based on that problem, this study aims to develop FD-MT (fluid dynamic-multi tier test) as a diagnostic test for measure students’ mental model on fluid dynamic concept. The ADDIE (Analyzing, Designing, Developing, Implementing, Evaluating) is a research method that used in this study. The data were collected by FD-MT will be analyzed by rasch model analysis, include the reliability, the validity, item fit and the differential item function. Student mental model clasified as Scientific, Synthesis-A (Sy-A), Synthesis-B(Sy-B), Syinthesis-C (Sy-C), Synthesis-D(Sy-D), and Initial. The participant of this study are 20 students in the eleventh grade (9 boys and 11 girls, 16-17 age in average) at high school in Bandung. Based on result study shows that students’ mental model mostly in mental Sc (8.18%), Sy-A (3.18%), Sy-B (21.36%), Sy-C (19.09%), Sy-D (38.18%) and In (10%), and incompleted answer (Nr = 0%). This conclude that, FD-MT is able to measureing students’ mental model on fluid dynamic concept.

Mental models describe an internal representation of knowledge, which can be used to describe, explain, and predict a person’s interactions with their environment. While there is no shortage on mental model research, a recent literature review revealed the majority of research on mental models does not include an actual model of any kind. Mental models are able to capture complex information, which is difficult to effectively convey through written word alone. A set of visual metaphors are needed to effectively convey the disparate information that can be identified in mental models. We have conducted initial research to develop a notional framework for visualizing mental models based on the context of the elicitation methods used (and the data collected).

The lack of use of learning media in the learning process causes students to find it difficult to understand the material. This study aims to produce learning media that can increase students' motivation and activeness in the learning process. Media development in this study is guided by the ADDIE model procedure which consists of several stages, namely analysis (analyze), design (design), development (development), implementation, and evaluation (evaluate). The subject in this development research is the mission book game media to increase the learning motivation of fifth-grade students while the object in this research is the validity and effectiveness of the mission book game media developed. This development research method is a qualitative and quantitative analysis method. The data collection used is a questionnaire method with data collection instruments in the form of a rating scale by giving an assessment instrument to 4 experts, namely, 2 material experts, 2 media experts, 2 practitioner responses, and 12 students. The data were analyzed by testing the validity and reliability test of the mission book game media based on data from experts, practitioners, and students' responses. The data obtained is calculated using the mean formula to determine the average validity of the media. The average validity score of the mission book media game in terms of material experts is 4.8 with very valid criteria, in terms of media experts it is 4.4 with very valid criteria, in terms of practitioner responses it is 4.7 with very valid criteria and in terms of student response of 4.9 with very valid criteria. The motivational data analysis technique used is descriptive quantitative statistical data analysis techniques in the form of prerequisite tests and t-tests. The results of the hypothesis test showed a significance value of 0.033 which means 0.033 <0.05, so it can be concluded that there is an effect of the.

This research aims to develop psychomotoric instruments adapted to the current conditions of Covid-19. Development research was carried out with reference to the 4D model from Thiagarajan. The research sample used was 39 students of the Ottimmo International MasterGourmet Academy. The research instrument used a validation sheet from validators or experts. Data of the research were obtained based on the results of the validation of the experts, which were then analyzed to determine the validity and reliability of the developed psychomotoric instruments. The findings of study indicated that the results of (1) the validation got an average value of 4.61 with a very valid category; and (2) reliability got a value of 0.671 in the reliable category. The conclusion of the research shows that the developed psychomotoric instrument is suitable for use in service and beverage learning.
