The Effect of Groundnut Shells Supplementation on Selected Biochemical Parameters of Confined Indigenous Cattle during Winter Season in the North West Province of South Africa

Background: The use of groundnut shells (GNS) in animal feeding is a common practice in tropical countries and most researchers have evaluated the nutritive values of GNS and their effects on animal performance. They are cheap and widely available in South Africa. However, most communal farmers in Mogosane village lack the knowledge nutritive values of such, and therefore do not use GNS to improve the performance of their cattle. Determination of the nutritional status of cattle is important especially when quantifying the effects of a dietary treatment. Blood metabolite concentrations indicate the animal’s nutritional status and they are commonly assessed in dairy than beef cattle, such that there are no reference values for the blood constituents of indigenous cattle in South Africa, suggesting a need for research in this area.Methods: An eight-week feeding trial was therefore, conducted to determine effect of different levels of groundnut shells (GNS) on biochemical parameters. Forty cattle were used and were allocated into Groups: A, B, C, D and E with eight animals in each group. Treatment group A was given basal diet and water only. Treatment group B was supplemented with 700 g/kg of GNS, C with 1050 g/kg of GNS, D with 1400 g/kg of GNS and E with 1750 g/kg of GNS. Blood samples were collected into anticoagulant free, allowed to coagulate at room temperature for 24 hours and then centrifuged at 1000 rpm for 10 minutes. The supernatant sera were harvested and stored in a freezer. Samples were collected once a week for eight weeks and were then analysed using Anision-300 Auto-Analyzer system. Results: Significant values were observed in urea and lipase in animals receiving 1050g/kg of GNS and were significantly (P less than 0.05) higher when compared to control group and all other treatment groups, and even for those animals in treatment group E. These significant values found in urea and lipase, on animals receiving 1050 g/kg, confirmed effect of GNS on metabolic functions on animals depending on natural pasture.

The needed of Iron Tablet in pregnancy was increase than mother who not pregnant.  That  cause of  high metabolism at the pregnancy for formed of  fetal organ and energy. One of effort for prevent anemia in mother pregnant with giving the Iron tablet and vitamin c. The reason of  this research in 4 June – 11 July 2014 is for compare the effect of  iron tablet suplementation with and without vitamin C toward Hemoglobin level in mother pregnant With Gestational Age Of 16-32 Weeks In Desa Keniten Kecamatan Mojo Kabupaten Kediri. This research method using comparative analytical.  Research design type of Quasy Eksperiment that have treatment group and control group. Treatment group will giving by Iron tablet and 100 mg vitamin C, and control group just giving by iron tablet during 21 days. Population in this research are all of mother pregnant with Gestational Age Of 16-32 Weeks with Sampling technique is  cluster random sampling is 29 mother pregnant. Comparison analysis of  iron tablet suplementation effect with and without vitamin C toward Hemoglobin level in mother pregnant With Gestational Age Of 16-32 Weeks, data analysis using Mann Whitney U-test and the calculated U value (44,5) less than U-table (51). So there was difference of iron tablet suplementation effect with and without vitamin C toward Hemoglobin level in mother pregnant With Gestational Age Of 16-32 Weeks Therefore, the addition of vitamin C on iron intake is needed to increase the uptake of iron tablets. Popularization of the real-time polymerase chain reaction method (RT-PCR), which is a trend of the recent years, allowed to significantly expand of the range of microorganisms that can be detected in the genitourinary tract of men. Moreover, the available picture of the microbiome's bacterial component structure became more detailed. Lactobacillus spp. remains one of the least studied groups of microorganisms. Treating patients with reproductive disorders, the authors have accumulated clinical experience demonstrating the possible relationship between presence of Lactobacillus spp. in the ejaculate and changes in the level of sex hormones and the key values registered with a spermogram. This study aimed to compare the levels of luteinizing hormone, follicle-stimulating hormone, testosterone, estradiol, prolactin, progesterone, and sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG) in blood serum and changes in spermogram values in 210 men with and without Lactobacillus spp. detected in their ejaculate. The treatment group included 105 men whose ejaculate had Lactobacillus spp. in the amount of (Lg) ≥ 103, as detected by RT-PCR. The control group included 105 men whose ejaculate did not have Lactobacillus spp. detected; the microbiome's bacterial component structure of their ejaculate was normal. Compared to the control group, treatment group had hormonal disorders registered more often: abnormal levels of three or more hormones (p = 0.04), hyperestradiolemia (p = 0.05), increased level of SHBG (p = 0.01). It was established that the presence of Lactobacillus spp. in the ejaculate of treatment group participants is associated with oligoastenoteratozoospermia (p < 0.01), decreased concentration of spermatozoa (p = 0.01), their decreased motility (p < 0.01) morphology abnormalities (p < 0.01). Thus, the presence of Lactobacillus spp. in the ejaculate can be interpreted as an additional marker of hormonal imbalance and fertility dysfunction in men.

The increasing cases of dengue hemorrhagic fever disease in both children and adults can beinfluenced by several factors. One of that influences increasing of dengue fever is lack of communityknowledge about dengue hemorrhagic fever. Brainstorming is a form of discussion to gather theinformation from all participants. This research was to find out the effect of health educationbrainstorming method and video toward knowledge of dengue fever in the work area of Puger PublicHealth Center the distric of Jember. This was a quasy experiment research with two groups pretestposttesttreatment design. The population were 88 families with 30 respondents as sample,conducted by simple random sampling, and divided into two groups 15 respondents as treatmentgroup and 15 respondents as control group. Treatment group got health education brainstormingmethod combined with video and control group got health education brace method. Data wereanalyzed used t-test dependent and t-test independent with 95% CI (α: 0,05). The result showedthere were significant differences of knowledge before and after in both treatment group and controlgroup (p: 0,000) and there were significant differences between treatment group and control afterhealth education (p: 0,001). Overall, health education by brainstorming method and can improveknowledge of dengue hemorrhagic fever. Cassava (Manihot esculenta) Peels supplementation in feed was evaluated on quality and quantity of dairy cattle production. Cassava peels were waste product of tapioca flour industry. A total of 26 lactation dairy cattle breed Friesian Holstein cross breed maintained at individual cage at farm on Kawi Mountain, Malang, East Java. It was randomly allotted to treatment and control group (13 head of cattle in each group). Treatment group were fed with cassava peels base dietary, whereas control group were fed by grass and commercial ration dietary. After a month, the quality and quantity of milk were recorded daily for a month and analyzed on automatic milk analyzer. The result showed significant changes (p<0.05) on treatment group were shown on percentage of protein (2.87%), lactose (4.40%), solid nonfat (8.49%), and total solid (12.23%). This quality of milk only needed cost of 1.15 €/head/day compared with control group which needed 2.02 €/head/day. These results indicated that cassava peels in feed can produce higher total solid and protein level of milk than control group. They also have high potential as a feed source to cut production cost; therefore, the farmer income increased slightly.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of harmonic context on the sightsinging skill of middle school choral music students. A nonrandomized control-group pretest-posttest design with one between-group (treatment method) and two within-group (trial and test context) factors was used. The treatment method used three harmonic contexts: (a) melody only, (b) piano harmony, and (c) vocal harmony. The trial condition had two levels (pretest and posttest), and the test context condition had four levels: (a) melody-only, (b) piano-harmony, (c) vocal harmony/upper with the melody in the higher of two voices, and (d) vocal harmony/lower with the melody in the lower of two voices. A repeated measures ANOVA revealed significant differences for the test context and trial main effects and for the trial by treatment group interaction; subjects obtained the highest sightsinging scores when tested in a melody-only context. Because of the significant interaction between trial and treatment group, one-way ANOVAs were used to test for simple main effects in both trial conditions (pretest and posttest). Although no significant differences were detected in the pretest ANOVA, the posttest ANOVA revealed significant differences among treatment groups. Post hoc analysis indicated that subjects in the melody-only treatment group showed more improvement in sightsinging skill than did subjects in the vocal-harmony treatment group. No difference was revealed, however, between the melody-only treatment group and the piano-harmony treatment group.

One of the real ways of increasing the production of livestock products is to increase the conservation of young animals, the mortality rate of which remains at this time still very high. Many calf treatment regimens have been developed, but they are not always effective, which prompts scientists and practitioners to improve already known methods of treatment, to find and justify new medical preparation. Material for research were dry-cows, healthy and sick calves. After the clinical examination of cows, the experiment was conducted in two phases: the first phase – in 3 groups of cows, the second – in clinical healthy and sick calves. Mineral supplement of Sapocorm were added to the first experimental group of cows; cows of the second experimental group – the preparation Betamint; animals of control group get basic diet. At the second phase, a group of healthy calves, as well as control and two experimental groups of patients were formed. The first group was treated with Intecol in combination with the probiotic Vetom. Calves of the second group – the preparation Intecoll, but in a complex with electrolyte solution Electrosol oral. The calves of the control group were treated with 4% solution of gentamicin sulfate and 30% solution of natrium thiosulfate. It was found out that during the dry period, cows were often subjected to metabolic disorders, and the causes of digestive disorders in calves were associated with a metabolic disorders in cows as a result of malnutrition. In the first stage of the research, the data obtained show the stimulatory effect of Betamint on the processes of hemopoiesis of the cows. In other side,  the probable magnification increase hemoglobin in the blood of cows can be explained by the influence of the components of the preparation on the metabolism of proteins. In cows of the first experimental group, which received the mineral supplement of Sapocorm, there were no probable changes in these indices. The next stage of the work was aimed at studying the effectiveness of preparation for the treatment of sick calves. In the analysis of biochemical parameters, was obtained low effectiveness of control group treatment, which was manifested by a slight increase in the biochemical parameters of the blood of diseased calves, which indicates an ineffective action of preparation. In the treatment of calves in the first group, the general condition was normal within 4–5 days of treatment. This indicates the complex effect of compounds and other elements that are components of the preparation Intecol and probiotic Vetom, on restoring the structure and functions of digestion. An analysis of the biochemical parameters of the blood of the second group when treated with the preparation Intecol and Electrosol oral plagued the normalization of the general state occurred within 2–3 days of treatment. The revealed changes indicate the complex influence of nutrients, which are components of the preparation Electrosol oral. On the basis of the conducted studies, the positive influence of the proposed treatment regimens and the effectiveness of the use of a complex of preparation with the antibiotic “Intecol” has been proved.

Panax ginseng was employed in the treatment of “Xiao-Ke” symptom, which nowadays known as diabetes mellitus, in traditional Chinese medicine for more than a thousand years. Ginsenoside Re was the major pharmacologic ingredient found abundantly in ginseng. However, the anti-diabetic of Ginsenoside Re and its underlying mechanism in metabolic level are still unclear. Serum and urine metabolomic method was carried out to investigate the anti-diabetic pharmacological effects and the potential mechanism of Ginsenoside Re on high-fat diet combined streptozotocin-induced type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) rats based on ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography coupled with quadrupole exactive orbitrap mass spectrometry (UHPLC-Q-Exactive Orbitrap/MS). Serum and urine samples were collected from the control group (CON), T2DM group, metformin (MET) treatment group, and ginsenoside Re treatment group after intervention. The biochemical parameters of serum were firstly analyzed. The endogenous metabolites in serum and urine were detected by UHPLC-MS. The potential metabolites were screened by multivariate statistical analysis and identified by accurate mass measurement, MS/MS, and metabolite databases. The anti-diabetic-related metabolites were analyzed by KEGG metabolic pathway, and its potential mechanism was discussed. The treatment of ginsenoside Re significantly reduced the blood glucose and serum lipid level improved the oxidative stress caused by T2DM. Biochemical parameters (urea nitrogen, uric acid) showed that ginsenoside Re could improve renal function in T2DM rats. Respective 2 and 6 differential metabolites were found and identified in serum and urine of ginsenoside Re compared with T2DM group and enriched in KEGG pathway. Metabolic pathways analysis indicated that the differential metabolites related to T2DM were mainly involved in arachidonic acid metabolism, Vitamin B6, steroid hormone biosynthesis, and bile secretion metabolic pathways. This study verified the anti-diabetic and anti-oxidation effects of ginsenoside Re, elaborated that ginsenoside Re has a good regulation of the metabolic disorder in T2DM rats, which could promote insulin secretion, stimulated cannabinoid type 1 receptor (CB1), and CaMKK β to activate AMPK signaling pathway, inhibited insulin resistance, and improved blood glucose uptake and diabetic nephropathy, so as to play the role of anti-diabetic.

The aim of this study is investigated the causes of retardation in growth of purebred calves infected by Theileria annulata.Blood samples of infected group (treatment group) were taken once, and blood samples of the control group (clinically healthy) were taken also .Serum separation was done to two groups to determinate some blood factors levels as ferritin ,phosphorus ,glucose ,growth hormone ,total T3 and total T4.It was detected that mean values of serum Ferritin was significantly higher than the values of the control group and healthy animals.No significant effect of the infection on the phosphorus and T3 levels ,While there were significant depression in serum levels of glucose ,growth hormone and T4.

Objectives. Yishenjiangyafang is a traditional Chinese medicine used to clinically treat hypertension. This study aimed to explore the effect of yishenjiangyafang on plasma metabolomics in senile spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHRs). Methods. Twelve 50-week-old SHR (6 males and 6 females) were randomly divided into two groups: a treatment group, in which rats were intragastrically administered with yishenjiangyafang (10.08 g kg−1·d−1), and a model group, in which all SHRs were administered the same volume of saline. Six age- and gender-matched Wistar–Kyoto (WKY) rats were used as the control group. Treatment was given for 6 days per week and lasted for 8 weeks. Systolic and diastolic blood pressures of the rats were measured with the noninvasive tail artery pressure measurement system. An ultraperformance liquid chromatography quadruple electrostatic field orbit (UPLC-Q-Exactive) was used to determine metabolite changes in the plasma of SHR rats before and after yishenjiangyafang treatment in the treatment group as well as in the model and control groups. Results. After yishenjiangyafang treatment, SHRs had significant lower blood pressure. Using UPLC-Q-Exactive, we identified 26 metabolic targets of yishenjiangyafang in aged SHRs and revealed that yishenjiangyafang targeted four major metabolic pathways, linoleic acid metabolism, glycerophospholipid metabolism, arginine and proline metabolism, and steroid hormone biosynthesis. Conclusion. Yishenjiangyafang decreases the blood pressure of SHRs at least in part through targeting of four major metabolic pathways. Our study illustrates mechanisms underlying the clinical application of yishenjiangyafang in the treatment of hypertensive patients.

Smoking is one of the habits that can affect human health. One type of cigarette that is currently the choice is electric cigarettes. The e-cigarette content includes nicotine, propylene glycol, flavorings and glycerin. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of exposure to e-cigarette smoke on mice strain balb / c with the parameters of the number of spermatozoa. This study used 15 male mice which were 8-10 weeks old and weighed 25-30 grams of male mice which were divided into 3 treatment groups namely control group, treatment group one and treatment group two. In the control group no exposure to cigarette smoke was carried out while in the treatment group one was exposed to cigarette smoke in mice with a dose of 0 mg nicotine and the second treatment group was exposed to e-cigarette smoke at a dose of 18 mg nicotine. Electric cigarette smoke exposure is carried out for 30 days using a suction device from a syringe. The exposure of cigarette smoke is carried out every day with successive doses of 20 times as much as 3 times with a time lag of 10 minutes (5 minutes the chamber is closed and 5 minutes of the chamber is opened). The results showed that the average number of spermatozoa in the control group was 16.816 million / ml. The average number of spermatozoa in treatment one was 10.432 million / ml and the average number of spermatozoa in treatment two was 5.234 million / ml. This shows that exposure to cigarette smoke can reduce the number of spermatozoa from the control group to the first treatment by 42.56% and the second treatment shows a decrease from the first group by 34.65%.
