<p><strong>Abstract:</strong></p><p>This study is a library research using a philosophical approach and intended to examine how the concept of shura according to Hamka and M. Quraish Shihab’s view, which theygavein interpreting the verses of the Qur’an about shura in Tafsir al-Azhar and Tafsir al-Mishbah. This research will also examine the relevance of the interpretation of Hamka and M. Quraish Shihab about the shura concept in the present context.<br />Based on the research results, Hamka and M. Quraish Shihab assume that shura can be changed to adjust the condition of society. This is consistent with the interpretation of contemporary exegetes. This definition is not conflicting with the interpretation of the classical commentators. However, M. Quraish Shihab then states that it doesn’t need to bind themselves to the verdict of Islamic scholars and even former friends, so causing confusion to think, because there is no clear frame for the detachment. In short, the interpretation of M. Quraish Shihab stained the relativism interpretation. Nevertheless, Hamka’s concept of shura is still in accordance with the interpretation of the commentators so it’s very relevant when it is applied in enforcing the principle of shura in society and the Islamic state. The efforts of some Muslims who build Islam through democracy, for example in Public Election, it does not mean that they recognize democracy as a part of Islam, but it just the way(wasîlah) in maintaining dharûratul khamsah Muslims to consider the serious benefits and harms.</p><p><strong>Keywords:</strong> shura; democracy; Hamka, Quraish Shihab.</p>

This article aims to explore the realms of al-Farabi's philosophical thought, by focusing on four problems: Is God unnecessary in the process of creating nature to know, think and even make nature the object of his thought? 2). How to interpret the influence of Imagination that underlies al-Farabi's theory of prophethood? 3). How is al-Farabi's view of the human soul? and 4). What is the ideal state form for al-Farabi? To answer this problem, the method used is library research research, with a philosophical approach. The research results obtained: First, God does not depend on nature as the object of his thought in the process of natural creation. Second, the Prophet, through his strong imaginative abilities, was not only able to deal directly with Mustafad's intellect, but was also able to translate the revelations that were sent down and transferred to us. Third, the soul has two powers, a theoretical power, namely the human thinking power that can distinguish and judge and is able to express different competences, and the practical power is the power that determines what human actions must be done. Fourth, the ideal country is a country whose leader is not only political, but also includes ethical issues.

<p class="1">Meeting teacher expectations for a professional development programme (PDP) is expected to strengthen sustainable applied competence as programme outcome since teachers will be more motivated to apply the programme content in practice. A revised distance learning (DL) programme was augmented by a practical component comprising a work-integrated portfolio and audio-visual material, aimed to support the applied competence of practising teachers in the South African context. An evaluation of the way the programme measured up to teacher expectations was deemed critical for future DL programme design. A qualitative study based on an interpretivist philosophical approach collected data of teacher expectations <em>for </em>and <em>of</em> the practical component through multiple methods. Their contributions were linked with four main themes related to applied competence as identified in the literature. Participant expectations and experiences with regards to each theme were compared by means of electronic coding through ATLASti™. The findings show a strong correlation between expectations <em>for</em> and experiences <em>of </em>the way the practical component supports the elements of applied competence. Since DL is viewed as a viable and cost effective way to improve teacher competence in developing countries, these findings serve as impetus for further investigation and refining ways to support applied competence in a distance learning professional development programme (DL PDP).</p>

This study aimed to examine the various interpretations of al-Mutakallimun on the attributes of Allah from the point of view of Salafiyah Theology, then the reasons behind the occurence of these interpretations as well as the Salafiyah Theological criticism against that understanding. The method used in this study was library research referring to classical and modern literature. The research conducted in this study shows that there are several Salafiyah Theological criticisms against these various interpretations of al-Mutakallimun on the attributes of Allah. Among other things, there is a fallacious perception that if one were to define the attributes of Allah in accordance with their meanings, one would fall on tasybih on those attibutes or on the consequences of those attribute. Therefore, some al-Mutakallimun find solutions in Tafwidh and Ta’wil, and claim that the two are the way to purify and glorify Allah. Besides, there is a mistake in understanding Arabic expressions according to the context.

This study examines Hamka's political thinking about Islam and the State in the Basic State debate that took place in the Constituent Assembly 1956-1959. Hamka belongs to the basic group of defenders of the Islamic state with Mohammad Natsir in the Masyumi faction, fighting for Islamic law before other factions namely the Nationalists, Communists, Socialists, Catholics-Protestants and members of the Constituent Assembly who are not fractured. Specifically examines the issue of why Islam is fought for as a state basis by Hamka. and how Hamka thought about the relationship between Islam and the state. The research method used is a type of library research with literature studies or documents consisting of primary and secondary data and reinforced by interviews. The theory used in this study is the theory of religious relations (Islam) and the state. This study found the first, according to Hamka, the Islamic struggle as the basis of the state was as a continuation of the historical ideals of the Indonesian national movement. The second was found that the constituent debate was the repetition of Islamic and nationalist ideological debates in the formulation of the Jakarta Charter. Third, this study also found Hamka's view that the One and Only God Almighty means Tauhid or the concept of the Essence of Allah SWT. The implication of this research theory is to strengthen Islamic thinking legally formally, that is thinking that requires Islam formally plays a major role in state life. The conclusion is that Indonesian society is a heterogeneous society in terms of religion. This means that constitutionally the state recognizes the diversity of religions embraced by the Indonesian people and guarantees the freedom of every individual to embrace religion and realize the teachings he believes in all aspects of life. Hamka in the Constituent Assembly stated that the struggle to establish a state based on Islam rather than a secular state for Islamic groups was a continuation of the ideals of historical will.

The purpose of this study is to (1) describe the reader's responses, (2) describe the horizon of readers' expectations, and (3) describe the factors that cause differences in responses and the horizon of expectations of readers of Mariposa's novel. The method applied is descriptive qualitative. The research data consisted of texts containing the responses of twenty respondents from the data source in the form of the Goodreads reader site. The research results obtained are as follows. First, not all readers respond positively to the intrinsic elements of the novel, especially the characterization of the female protagonist who is considered to show aggressive behavior with a love motive. Readings are generally motivated by curiosity because of the hyperbolic labeling of the novel, recommendations from friends, and the discourse of filming the novel. Third, the factors that cause the difference or suitability of the horizon of readers' expectations for the Mariposa novel are knowledge of literature, knowledge of life, and experience of reading literary works.

This library research analyzes the word Nisā` in al-Qur'an, which describes the women’s domestic roles and standards of social piety in Islamic view. It uses the philosophical-hermeneutical approach and social piety theory to analyze the data. This research results in three main findings: First, social piety in Islam manifests responsibility as God's caliphs on earth. Second, one of social piety description  in Islam is by the use of word Nisā` repeatedly in different verses and surahs of al-Qur'an. The last, Nisā` diction to describe the social piety concept, according to al-Qur'an, places women in the domestic dimension to show women's participation as God's caliphs on earth in building the ideal social order. This research contributes to the gender studies overlooked by previous researchers, as the concept of Nisā` in al-Qur'an was ignored.
