This article explores the prospects of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on young people in Russia and abroad. Particular attention is paid to the phenomenon that modern researchers refer to as “coronavirus ageism”. This study shows that in the age of the pandemic, the young age becomes a natural resource that significantly increases the chances of adapting to the social transformations caused by the pandemic. The author’s sociological research of adaptation strategies and social practices of the post-Soviet youth in the age of the pandemic shows that digital acumen helps to overcome the negative consequences of the coronavirus crisis. The mediation role of the first digital generations in the modern world — Millennials and Generation Z — is important in transferring IT knowledge and skills to older generations. Thus, the intensity of intergenerational contacts can be considered as one of the key factors positively influencing the digital literacy of older generations. This fact provides an opportunity to look differently at the familiar problem of the generational gap. However, there are deprived young people for whom the prospects of succeeding in life in the age of the new coronavirus pandemic are slim. Many young people living in the world’s poorest countries (or regions) have limited access to digital technologies and education. Some young people are cut off from quality health services, which poses a threat not only to their health but also to their lives. Some young people are faced with the hardships of unemployment, suffer from violence, cannot cope with negative emotions and loneliness, have experienced the death of loved ones or friends, etc.

The paper is focused on the analysis of the main reasons for the increasing educational migration of young people in Russian regions and to the deter-mination of the possibilities of influencing its flows. The author pays special attention to the differentiat-ed socio-economic development of regions, which predetermines the specifics of the emergence of territorial problems, as well as key attractive aspects of education. The trends of educational migration of young people in the Siberian Federal District are described. On the basis of comparative analysis and sociological research, motivating factors of youth educational migration that are similar for the regions of the Russian Federation were identified. The main conclusions of the study are that the growing polar-ization of territories in the modern world, the heter-ogeneity of educational opportunities increasingly determine youth migration movements, the negative consequences of which require the search for con-structive management mechanisms through the analysis of factors in the development environment of the region.

Based on the assumption digital literacy needs a practical approach and actions, this chapter presents an initiative that intends to develop digital skills in a very creative way. Considering the challenge educators (for instance, teachers or librarians) face to promote digital literacy skills especially to young people in a very engaging way, some training was developed to create a possible answer to that problem. This chapter discusses the impact of that initiative that highlights the potential of humour and parody that we can find on digital media to teach digital literacy. According to some attendants, this approach was creative, engaging and built in their minds alternative paths to explore digital literacy and critical thinking.

Purpose of the study: The purpose of the article is to study the characteristics of the stigmatization process of modern youth in the Russian Far East. Special attention is paid to living conditions in the Russian Far East, noting that the majority of the population in the Far Eastern region and, above all, young people, are in a situation of social inequality and marginality in relation to the rest of Russians. Many young people associate their life strategies with leaving the territory of the Far East of Russia. Methodology: At the first stage of the study, the method of participant observation was used, which provided primary information about the impact of stigma on the self-identification of young people. At the empirical level of research, such sociological methods as document analysis, sociological surveys in the form of questioning and interviewing were applied. A sociological survey was conducted as a pilot study of the problems of stigmatization among high school and university students of the cities of Khabarovsk and Komsomolsk-on-Amur. Main findings of this article: Stigma is manifested in its own way in different times and in different communities, it is historically and socioculturally specific. Territorial stigma possesses signs of ambivalence, on the one hand, it has a negative effect on the socialization and self-identification process of young people in the Russian Far East, but on the other hand, it can act as an incentive for young people to make an active and conscious choice of their life strategy. Applications of this study: The findings can be used in the implementation of youth policy in the Far Eastern Federal District by state and local authorities in order to prevent the outflow of young people from the region. The main results of the study can be useful for use in the educational process in such disciplines as sociology, political science, regional studies, as well as for the further study of the problems of social stigmatization. Novelty/Originality of this study: The novelty and significance of the study lie in the fact that in Russian sociology practically no attention is paid to the problems of territorial stigmatization. The theoretical conclusions were obtained on the basis of the original sociological research conducted by the authors of the article in the cities of the Far Eastern region of Russia. The results provided new knowledge of both territorial stigmatization and social stigmatization in general. The novelty of the conducted study lies in the actualization of the problem of social stigmatization of Russian youth living in the Far Eastern region remote from the center of Russia.

In this article, we have considered the complex problem of developing and realizing the potential of young people in the light of the challenges that arise in the modern world. Young people are a vulnerable social group for whom state and local support is essential. Problems in employment can shake the incentive for young people to develop their potential. We investigated the impact of educational and social space on the development of one of the components of youth potential - potential in event management. We emphasized that the development of this component can be a good impetus for intensifying the entrepreneurial activity of young people. However, youth employment and entrepreneurship in event management need care from the state and intensification of informal social control mechanisms. We have formed recommendations that will allow integrating the processes of social development and development of youth potential in event management. This work can be helpful for public authorities, educational institutions and public organizations.

The article is devoted to the problem of transferring literary culture from previous generations to “Generation Z”. A brief description of this generation is presented from the perspective of the theory of generations by American researchers Neil Hove and William Strauss. The topic of children’s reading for generations of the 20th century is briefly covered. By the example of the reading repertoire of children and teenagers, works of literary classics and actual children’s literature, the article shows the process of gradual weakening of the transfer of values of literary culture from generation to generation. The materials of complex and sociological research, conducted by the Russian State Children’s Library at the beginning of the 21st century, highlight the problems of reading the best literature that traditionally has been included in the reading of generations. The results of research given in the article testify to the process of losing the nearly century-old literary tradition. For instance, this problem can be seen in the example of parents choosing books for children of primary and secondary school age. In many ways, the repertoire of reading literary classics by children and adolescents is formed by school: this is the school curriculum and lists of extracurricular reading. The interest of schoolchildren in classical literature and in books of previous generations continues to fall. The process of changing the repertoire of leisure reading in adolescents is shown. The repertoire of their reading is significantly fragmented. This is largely due to trends in the development of book publishing and the spread of literature. The article indicates the pros and cons of adolescents’ reading, caused by new information technologies; shows the influence of these technologies on reading literacy and reading culture. The process of literature selection by adolescents, boys and girls, is illustrated basing on the results of another new study. It is shown that the choice of schoolchildren is largely random and contains works of modern literature with a predominance of fantasy genre books. The research results demonstrate that today the main factors that have a significant impact on the choice of literature for teenagers and young people are video production and peers’ advice. Solving the problem of supporting reading and forming a reading circle of “Generation Z” schoolchildren, in the context of literary tradition attenuation, is a difficult task to be accomplished by competent adult mentors together with adolescents and young people themselves.

With the end of the military phase of counteracting religious extremism and terrorism, the ideological confrontation of individual social groups has become latent and weakly expressed. Today, in the vanguard of this confrontation are young people who are studying, and in their social enviroment there are obviously some ideas of social justice, morality, and morals that may be reinterpreted from the standpoint of Islamic dogma. This sociological research has shown that the majority of students at secular schools and universities in Dagestan show a weak dependence on the opinion of religious figures. However, about 10 % of students are under their influence. This may have some negative consequences in the situation of continued distrust of law en-forcement agencies on the part of 60 to 70 % of civilian population, which is not prepared to cooperate with law enforcement bodies in counteracting religious extremism and terrorism. In this regard, the authors propose to include in the preventive work the measures aimed at increas-ing the level of trust of citizens to law enforcement officers.

The global transition to the digital economy and digital society, intensively developing digital technologies, has an active influence on forming the digital generation’s personality (generation Z, network generation, iGen generation, next-generation). In the context of the pandemic, severe education transformations have taken place. It could not but affect the even more significant impact of digital technologies on the consciousness and behaviour of the modern generation. The article presents its features in the unity of the main spheres of personality — communicative, cognitive, emotional-volitional, motivational-need, value-semantic, influencing the lifestyle that is not peculiar to the preceding industrial civilization. Modern teenagers and young people have specific resources: mobility, multitasking, the flexibility of thinking, high speed of information perception, intellectual potential, activity, etc. At the same time, the identified personal and behavioural characteristics of the modern generation have shown that its representatives are in a state of estrangement from the real society, have difficulties in communication, experience emotional dependence on “numbers”, which leads to a lack of cognitive control, infantilism in real life, lack of deep interpersonal relationships. Purpose of the article: Considering the features of the digital generation in the unity of the main spheres of personality. Tasks: identification of personal and behavioural features of the digital generation; assessment of the consequences of the impact of information technology on the younger generation; development of suggestions for solving problems of communications and professional formation. The study of the phenomenological features of the representatives of the digital generation was carried out using a qualitative and phenomenological method, supplemented by a theoretical and methodological analysis of scientific literature, synthesis, concretization, comparison and generalization. New ideas and methods that affect the development of young people, taking into account the environment in which they are formed, based on the accumulation and analysis of information, have been developed. Knowledge of the specifics of digital socialization of an individual, the characteristics of representatives of generation Z will allow finding new landmarks in development, proportionately using them for educational purposes, and promoting professional self-determination.

Loneliness and cognitive distortions have serious negative effects on life satisfaction and are seen as related to each other. However, what mediates in these relationships has not been adequately analyzed. This study aims to analyze the effect between cognitive distortions and life satisfaction by asserting the mediating role of loneliness. For this purpose, we conducted a cross-sectional study with 978 people over the age of 20 from various parts of Turkey using a general screening model. Firstly, we analyzed the direct effect of interpersonal rejection, interpersonal misperception, and unrealistic relationship expectation, which are sub-dimensions of cognitive distortions, loneliness, and life satisfaction. Secondly, we analyzed the effects of independent, mediation, and interaction (Loneliness X age) variables on satisfaction with life. Thirdly, we applied direct regression analysis between independent, mediating, and dependent variables to conduct the mediation analysis of the study. Also, we examined age as a moderator between loneliness and life satisfaction. The results showed loneliness as an essential determinant between cognitive distortions and life satisfaction. Moreover, in the moderation analysis, we found some age-related differences between loneliness and life satisfaction. According to this, both loneliness and life satisfaction increased with increasing age. However, life satisfaction decreased as loneliness increased in young people. Being able to compensate for loneliness in the aging process is an essential psychological indicator. Although young people have more opportunities than older people, their ability to cope with negative situations such as loneliness is largely undeveloped. These results showed both psychological and sociological problems of loneliness. Therefore, the results can be useful for the prevention of loneliness and the development of intervention programs.
