Surfing reserves (SRs) have been created all around the world as part of international or national programs. They can represent relevant initiatives for the local coastal management and protection of surfing spots and their surrounding areas. The process for establishing a SR relies on a set of attributes, of four main themes (wave quality, environmental characteristics, culture and surf history, governance capacity and local support). In this research, we proposed and tested some forms of organizing and comparing these attributes and themes, in order to provide a simple and easy form of preliminarily evaluating a candidate site to be a SR. Four beaches from the coast of the State of São Paulo, Brazil, were compared (Maresias, Itamambuca, Guaraú and Praia Branca), and the themes and attributes were combined by qualitative and quantitative approaches. All approaches indicated Itamambuca beach as presenting the highest potential to be a SR. The stratified approaches, in which each of the four themes was evaluated separately and then combined with the other, appeared to be more consistent and easier to use and understand. We hope that these approaches are useful to surfing communities involved in SR candidatures, especially in the initial phases of analysis and diagnostic. The influences of task type on search of the World Wide Web using search engines without limitation of search domain were investigated. 9 graduate and undergraduate students studying psychology (1 woman and 8 men, M age = 25.0 yr., SD = 2.1) participated. Their performance to manipulate the search engines on a closed task with only one answer were compared with their performance on an open task with several possible answers. Analysis showed that the number of actions was larger for the closed task ( M = 91) than for the open task ( M = 46.1). Behaviors such as selection of keywords (averages were 7.9% of all actions for the closed task and 16.7% for the open task) and pressing of the browser's back button (averages were 40.3% of all actions for the closed task and 29.6% for the open task) were also different. On the other hand, behaviors such as selection of hyperlinks, pressing of the home button, and number of browsed pages were similar for both tasks. Search behaviors were influenced by task type when the students searched for information without limitation placed on the information sources.

Modern diagnostics in rowing enables more and more possibilities for recording, and comparing numerous stroke variables. At the same time, many coaches fall into the trap of strict respect for the prescribed norms, ratios, and temporarily results, which the athlete must achieve if he wants to stay in the world of competitive rowing. On the example of the comparison of rowing schools RC "Danubius" and RC "Partizan", descriptive indicators are on the side of RC "Danubius" at a time of 2000m, average force and average power. No significant differences were found in average force (sig = 0,167) between rowers of RC "Danubius" and RC "Partizan", while statistically significant differences were recorded in time at 2000m (sig = 0,036) and power (sig = 0,02) in favor of rowers of RC “Danubius”. On the other hand, a higher correlation of average force (-0,955) and power (-0,928) with time on 2000m was achieved by RC "Partizan" than RC "Danubius" (-0,931) and (-0,896). The correlation between the average force, and the average power within one team shows a higher correlation for RC “Partizan" (0,95) compared to RC "Danubius" (0,755). The obtained results are not enough for single rower or crew elimination from competition to recreational section in the process of too frequent and strict selection of rowers, considering different possible ways of building rowing techniques and numerous parasitic factors that may affect measured variables, specialy at the age under 14 and novice rowers in general.

The inventory of the geological heritage of the state of São Paulo, Brazil, was carried out from 2012 to 2015 and resulted in the selection of 142 geosites in 11 geological frameworks representative of its geological history. Among the frameworks is the “Geomorphological units and landforms”, which includes fourteen geosites representative of the main geomorphological features in the area. Since these kinds of geosites are very suitable to interpretative and educational purposes, in this work we present both qualitative and quantitative assessments of the potential educational use of the geosites present in this geological framework. The assessment was carried out using the GEOSSIT platform, which was developed by the Geological Survey of Brazil (CPRM). The outcomes of the quantitative assessment made it possible to rank the geosites according to their importance. The geosites Jaraguá Peak and Itapeva Peak achieved the highest rankings, a result that reinforces their current use for tourist activities; on the other hand, the geosites Jureia Massif and Diabo Hill were the lowest ranked. The data obtained in this study suggest the need to establish educational measures that may increase activities of valorisation, dissemination and conservation of these geosites, and that take into account the geodiversity elements. In order to implement such measures, some support from public and private agencies is fundamental. In general, geosites present excellent conditions for the dissemination of geoscientific knowledge, making a key to the construction of a geoconservation conscience by the general public.

 This paper aims at investigating some discursive features of blawgs, namely legal blogs in which legal experts disseminate and popularise their expertise. More specifically, it involves a corpus-assisted discourse study of the ways in which situational contexts affect the practices and strategies used to represent, construct and communicate legal knowledge. A comparison is drawn between two corpora representative of two different types of communication: a selection of posts written by legal experts for other experts (symmetrical communication) and posts written by legal experts for laypersons (asymmetrical communication). Combining qualitative and quantitative observations, the analysis shows that, in symmetrical communication, the emphasis is on the blogger’s subjective interpretation of legal texts and on his role as knowledge disseminator, as indicated by the predominance of epistemic modality. In asymmetrical communication, on the other hand, the prevalence of deontic modality shifts the focus on to the reader as addressee of the advice, instructions and information provided by the legal expert.

Russia was proud of Russkoye Bogatstvo (Russian Wealth) magazine for a long while. It was among the most reputable and influential periodicals in the country. Not only had many Russians known of the magazine, but they were also its dedicated readers. On the one hand, the interest in Russkoye Bogatstvo could have been justified by the excellent selection of its authors among the best Russian writers and scientists. On the other hand, its publishers were Russias most famous critics, publicists, and outstanding literary figures recognized in the cultural and scientific circles. The magazine publications stood out due to their excellent style and availability for people of various social levels: both educated readers and those without profound knowledge of literature, science, and arts. The readers pool included older and experienced people and very young students. Later, the name of the magazine became a symbol of the great intellectual wealth of Russia.

The article deals with the phonetic system of the Ukrainian and Spanish languages on the example of Spanish translations of poetry “Kobzar” by Taras Shevchenko. This paper investigates the strategies of phonetic and phonemic recombinations of translation, that contribute to the Ukrainian identity reproduction in Spanish. The research states that the reflection of Ukrainian euphony, in particular the language of Taras Shevchenko, excites due to phonetic, grammatical, syntactic and semantic reconstruction of language units. It also determines that the ethnic paradigm encoded into the language worldview of Ukrainians is explicated in Spanish by preserving ethnic symbols in their phonetic and / or lexical and semantic interpretation. Moreover, it states that the reproduction of rhythm and melody in the poetry of T. Shevchenko is fragmentary in Spanish translation. It is possible due to the structural elasticity and the euphony of the Spanish language. The other reason is connected with synthetic origin of Ukrainian and analytical nature of Spanish. It should be mentioned that even though the special selection of the proper vocabulary, which is not similar to syllabic system of the original poems, allows creating close mimic sounding of rhythms in Shevchenko poetry. In fact, the impossible reproduction is observed at the level of letter combination, since the letters in each language of the world have their own emotional and semantic characteristics, dependent on mentality. During the analysis of the syllabic and tone system of original verse writing in Taras Shevchenko poetry and its Spanish translation, a phonetic universality of the writer’s works is discovered, which is characterized by a tonal manifestation.

The experimental study of students-psychologists’ educational reading is presented; its aim was to reveal the students’ ability to be open to understanding and to accept psychological ideas different from their own. The changes in the students’ personality-related perceptions in the process of their interaction with the educational text are described. The master students in psychological specialties are characterized by mainly ordinary ideas on psychological reality. They show two strategies of work with a scientific text: 1) focus on selection as many previously unknown words in the text as possible and memorizing them; 2) focus on selection of several key, systemic concepts and understanding of the text through their prism. The master’s students are characterized by prevailing orientation on understanding the information presented in the educational text. Students of the second stage of higher education show significant difficulties in reconstructing the psychological reality from the standpoint of a given psychological theory. They tend to attribute their own ideas to the text author, to ignore the author’s unique thinking and to use formally or fragmentarily the author’s conceptual apparatus. Instead of reconstructing an event, they offer characteristics or diagnoses. The students’ understanding of a position of the text author (“the Other”) leads most often only to insignificant changes in the student’s understanding of psychological reality. Such changes are revealed not so much in the qualitative transformation of the students’ picture of the world but in the enrichment of their ideas with new aspects of this picture. It is noted that at training of students in psychological specialties, special pedagogic activities are needed to form their philological competences in working with text.

The status of Jerusalem lies at the heart of Palestine-Israel conundrum. Its disputed status is pelagus forsit for the resolution of the intractable Palestine conflict. The Palestinians have always regarded Eastern Jerusalem as capital of their future state under Two-nation solution. On the other side, Israel declared in 1998 to further expand Jerusalem by annexing the surrounding areas as well. This paper investigates the Trump administration’s stance on relocating the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, its implications for Palestinian state and broad reactions of the world community.

The goal of this paper is to analyze the ways in which the “other” is portrayed and formalized in compulsory schooling in an institutionalized manner. The research methodology used is qualitative and quantitative content analysis of the teaching material. Certain attitudes towards “other” cultures among societal groups are often the result of their conception of alterity, of their identity and the relation between them. These representations have become a culture on its own right, giving birth to a categorization of people within the same society and of peoples of the world. This paper will attempt to reveal the way this dichotomy between the “self” and the “other” operates and will analyze the way alterity is managed in the textbooks.

AbstractThrough a critique of the “internationalist” arguments outlined and defended by Paul Kellogg, Elisabeth Gidengil has mounted a defence of dependency theory as it has been applied to Canadian political economy. She argues that dependency theory, far from being discarded as Kellogg has suggested, must be part of any new synthesis that is developed in Canadian political economy. She argues that Bukharin's Marxism, defended by Kellogg, is too abstract to be of any real guide in this new synthesis. This reply first situates where a “Bukharinist” approach is in agreement with dependency theory. Both recognize the existence of a rigid hierarchy of nations that impedes development in the Third World. But in Canada, it is argued, this insight has been stood on its head, Canada being theorized as “dependent” and suffering dependency-induced “structural weaknesses.” A selection of empirical examples is introduced to indicate the weak factual ground on which this claim is based. If there are aspects of the dependency paradigm to be retained, in the Canadian case this requires inverting the way in which this paradigm has usually been applied and insisting on Canada's entrenched position, alongside the other G7 powers, at the top of the hierarchy of nations in the world system.
