A study on the role of on-farm/outreach research (OR) site in wheat technology dissemination was conducted in Terai regions of Sunsari, Rupandehi and Banke districts, Nepal. On-farm research sites representing irrigated, partially irrigated and rainfed production domains and their comparative control, the non-outreach research sites were selected. From the list of wheat growers in respective study sites, 30 samples from each of the VDCs were selected randomly irrespective of their landholdings with the total sample size of 180 for the study. The study revealed that overall area covered by the improved varieties was about 94%; however, it was 100 % in OR site. The area covered by the improved varieties released after 1990s was found higher in OR site but there was still domination of improved variety Nepal 297 in the study area, which was released in 1985. The Technological Adoption Index (TAI) for wheat was found higher (0.63) in OR site compared to non-OR site (0.43). Test for equality of mean of TAI was carried out between OR and non-OR sites and found significantly different (P=<0.000) between the sites. Farmers were categorized into low adopters, medium adopters and high adopters based on their TAI value after conversion into percentage. Chi-square test shows the significance difference (χ2 =24.82 and P=<0.000) in number of farmers in different adoption categories between OR and non-OR sites. Results indicate OR sites are playing viable role for increasing number of high adopters (farmers) compared to non-OR site farmers. The knowledge on good agriculture management, access to modern improved seed, and use and availability of agriculture information, availability of agricultural inputs and loan were found significantly high on OR sites. There exists large scope for yield improvement of the wheat in Nepal by increasing number of outreach sites and by strengthening institutional coordination and linkage among the related stakeholders at different levels to provide system based packages rather than component technology for mass dissemination and adoption of technology among the farmers at large.Agronomy Journal of Nepal (Agron JN) vol. 4, 2016, page: 9-24

Abstract Background Changes in the natural habitats of insect groups are determined the genetic polymorphisms between individuals. The objective of this study was to establish the genetic structure of the Anopheles coluzzii populations in four localities of Benin. Methods Insecticide surveys and larval sampling were conducted on 4 study localities, including Cotonou, Ketou, Zagnanado, and Sô-Ava. Molecular characterizations were performed on the Anopheles mosquitoes collected with the allelic and genotypic frequencies of kdr gene determined. The multiple comparison Chi square test for proportions was performed with R version 3.3.3. Next, the observed heterozygosity, expected heterozygosity, and indices of fixation, and genetic differentiation were estimated. Finally, the Hardy–Weinberg equilibrium (EHW) was determined to assess whether panmixia exists in the different populations of mosquitoes of the agroecological zones under study. Results Carbamates, pyrethroids, organophosphorus and organochlorines use have been reported in all localities except Sô-Ava. Anopheles coluzzii was strongly represented across all study localities. The L1014F allele was observed in the localities of Kétou, Cotonou and Zagnanado. Likewise, insecticide selection pressure of homozygous resistant individuals (L1014F/L1014F) was significantly higher in Kétou, Cotonou and Zagnanado (p value < 0.05). Surprisingly in Sô-Ava, a relatively high frequency of the L1014F allele despite the reported absence of pesticide use was observed. All mosquito populations were found to be deficient in heterozygosity across the study sites (FIS< 0). No genetic differentiation (FST< 0) was observed in the localities of Zagnanado and Kétou. Conclusion The survey on the use of insecticides showed that insecticide selection pressures differ across the investigated localities. It would be desirable to rotate or apply formulations of combined products with different modes of action. Doing so would enable a better management of resistant homozygous individuals, and mitigate the resistance effect of commonly used insecticides.

Introduction: The high incidence of fires in the DKI Jakarta area certainly increases the risk for DKI Jakarta Firefighters, so Personal Protective Equipment is mandatory for officers when carrying out firefighting operations to prevent and control potential hazards for firefighters. It was recorded that 76 officers were injured and 1 officer died while carrying out firefighting operations in the last 5 (five) years. So it is necessary to know the factors that influence the behavior of using the SCBA (Self Contained Breathing Apparatus) respiratory Personal Protective Equipment. Methods: This quantitative descriptive study with a cross-sectional approach was carried out at the DKI Jakarta Provincial Fire and Rescue Service in 2021 with a population of all DKI Jakarta firefighters and a total sample of 208 firefighters. The instrument used is a questionnaire. Results: The results of data analysis carried out univariate and bivariate using the chi square test with = 0.05 showed a significant relationship between the behavior of using PPE SCBA with the availability of PPE (Pvalue = 0.000), Regulations (SOP) related to the use of PPE (Pvalue = 0.000) and Supervision (Pvalue = 0.000). However, there is no significant relationship between the behavior of using PPE SCBA with knowledge of PPE (Pvalue = 0.180), Age (Pvalue = 0.111), years of service (Pvalue = 0.065), training (Pvalue = 0.087) and PPE comfort (Pvalue = 0.513). Discussion: The behavior of using SCBA PPE for DKI Jakarta firefighters in 2021 is still relatively low because only 54.5% of respondents from firefighters stated that they used SCBA PPE in every fire fighting operation. So it is necessary to increase knowledge related to PPE and skills in using PPE for operational officers through education and training activities, training and technical guidance.
