AbstractWhile the literature has documented a general increase in parental investment in children, both in terms of financial and time investment, the motives for this increase remain unclear. This paper aims at shedding light on these motives by examining parents’ own narratives of their parenting experiences from the vantage point of three theoretical perspectives. In doing so, the paper brings side-by-side the goal of providing children with human and social capital to improve their future labour market prospects, the pressures on parents to conform to new societal standards of good and intensive parenting, and the experience of parenting as part of self-development. The data come from a qualitative study of middle-income parents in Canada and the USA. The results provide some support for each of these perspectives, while also revealing how they jointly help explain parents’ large investment in their children as well as the tensions and contradictions that come with it.

<b>Abstract:</b> Human activities always produce trash. The amount of trash continues to grow in line with population growth and technological developments. Trash has become an environmental crisis due to a lack of awareness and in Indonesia little serious effort has been made to process trash properly. The importance of a serious effort of trash management and self-development as a real human being is nothing other than a struggle to restore harmony between Creator, human beings, and the whole of creation. This paper reflects on the reality of trash as well as taking up the views and habits of people who are little concerned about handling trash although they already feel the adverse impact of trash on the environment. This study analyses data and the information obtained through observation of the trash problem, supported by data from written sources . <b>Keywords:</b> Trash, environment, human development, ecological repentance <b>Abstrak:</b> Kegiatan manusia selalu menghasilkan sampah. <b>Kata-kata kunci:</b> sampah, lingkungan, pengembangan manusia, pertobatan ekologi

Development is a focal point of human existence from the moment of birth. A magnitude of options is offered in which to choose a path of growth and expansion as we progress. The following is a review of one such choice, the integral theory; included are both an explanation of theory and ideology of human development. This understanding is applied to my personal experience as I participated in P.L. Lattuada’s experiential process of organismic constellation. Through a gradual evolution of meditative processes Lattuada’s organismic constellation method offers a chance to explore one’s egoic translations. The second portion of this paper explores my personal process, revealing some of my personal egoic translations of traumas, fixations, complexes, and shadows. KEYWORDS Integral Theory, Organismic Constellations, Consciousness as Such Building, Human Development, First Attention Epistemology, Second Attention Epistemology

Cross-cultural psychology and human development are currently experiencing an exciting period of growth. Segall, Lonner, and Berry have noted that when all psychology finally takes into account the effects of culture on human behavior (and vice versa), terms like cross-cultural and cultural psychology will become unnecessary. At that point, all psychology will be truly cultural. In this chapter, the author defines cross-cultural human development; theoretical perspectives and models; emerging themes, such as contextual influences; applications to social issues; and future directions. As the author has earlier stated, tremendous challenges and opportunities lie ahead and speculating about the future path of cross-cultural psychology is difficult.

The manifestation of human superiority as ‘ahsan al-taqwim’ can be interpreted as the process of developing the level of "inner aspect" of the human called ‘nafs’. In this context the dimensions of ‘nafs’ or soul that exists in the human still leaves a long discussion to be examined further for the purposes of parsing, forecasting and controlling human behaviour, either individually or in groups, both in relation to the field of ‘da'wah’ or education, for the benefit of mobilizing society in nation-building. Therefore, a research on the concept of ‘taswiyah al-nafs’ in the development of the human person becomes important to be conducted. The results has shown that in the process of ‘taswiyat al-nafs’, besides having the freedom of will and choosing between ‘fujur’ or ‘taqwa’ tendencies, man also have the moral responsibility implied as a subtle command and indirectly to take and choose ‘taqwa’. It is because, the essence of ‘taqwa’ is the mastery, control and self-preservation of ‘al-ahwa'. ‘Taqwa’ as an effort of mastery, control and self-preservation is a prerequisite for the process of human development as a civilized being. The effort is essentially a process of an endless human self-development to reach the ideal of ‘insan kamil’—a perfect man reflecting the names and attributes of God—‘al-asma'ul-husna’.

The program and planning as well as the transformation of human development in education at the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia are aimed at producing a workforce capable of competitiveness and quality. This transformation aims to meet the demands and needs of human resources in addition to produce disciplined graduates, supporting the national aspirations and noble character. In the concept of "soft skills", communication is an essential element of self-development, generating knowledge, and competency. Therefore applying communication skills is needed, especially in the context of interpersonal, writing, presentation, training and consulting. To strengthen communication skills, more comprehensive and intensive approach are applied in polishing soft skills performance when planning, organizing, leadership or controlling. In this regard, human resource management dominates the careful planning and maximizes energy to be applied towards achieving a systematic and efficient communication skills and expertise in order to improve the quality of life and to protect the well-being of mankind. In order to realize this study, various metadological methods have been highlighted for intensive them is to distribute questionnaires to students of IPS who are currently undergoing the PUB2014 module, Human Development, adapting the theory learned by exposing the students IPS2-S1 to Demong Beach Resort Besut, Terengganu and students of IPS2-S2 went to the Woman's Welfare Association and Poverty Permata Al-Insyirah, Kuantan. Students were also given assignments and present the findings of the theory that have been learned and applied through "oral presentation" and using the IBM SPSS Statistics version 23 instrument to analyze the distributed questionnaire data. The findings of human development studies from the concept of "soft skills" find that human resource development is regarded as a lubricant as well as a generator within an organization also a catalyst for changes in human resource behavior within the organization, especially the students of IPS2-S1 and IPS2-S2 in Politeknik Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin (PSMZA). This is because IPS students have developed effective and productive communication skills for orphans and their environment.

Substantial evidence suggests that women have added the role of worker to their characteristic adult roles of wife and mother. The inclusion of a work cycle in the female life course is a significant alteration of traditional roles, and is likely to have a major impact on both individual lives and the social structure. However, little has been done to incorporate these changes into theoretical perspectives on occupational development. This paper examines the literature on women and work by reviewing, at the societal level, the trends in female labor force activity since 1900 and, at the individual level, theories of the development of occupational behavior. An integration of these two areas is then suggested through an evaluation of their relevance to the human development paradigm.

There is a significant lack of development studies on reproductive health, especially in developing countries. The field of social work has especially marginalized the study of reproductive health. Adding to this deficiency is the lack of meaningful theoretical frameworks guiding the reproductive field, especially in developing countries. This paper explores Amartya Sen’s theoretical perspectives as a possible theoretical framework that both guides the reproductive field and helps social work put reproductive health at the forefront of its agenda.
