INTRODUCTION. Phytoestrogens are plant-derived compounds with structural similarity to 17-β-estradiol. They are considered safer substitutes for synthetic drugs, especially in the treatment of menopause related symptoms. They are delivered to the body with diet or as dietary supplements. AIM OF THE STUDY. The aim of the study was to assess consumer awareness of taking phytoestrogens with diet and supplements, as well as the benefits and risks of such supplementation. MATERIALS AND METHODS. An original survey form was created for the purpose of the study, 133 questionnaires were completed online, and 100 were distributed to random respondents in the Silesian Voivodship. The vast majority of the respondents (84.5%) was represented by women. The study group was diverse in terms of age, education and place of residence. RESULTS. Most of the respondents (67.4%) encountered the concept of phytoestrogens. Common plants as: flax, sunflower, pumpkin, European olive and hops were indicated as phytoestrogen main sources. A small group of respondents (6%) was convinced of the effectiveness of phytoestrogens and indicated their specific health-promoting activities, 49.4% said that not every therapy with their use would improve health and 42.9% declared lack of knowledge in this area. According to the survey outcomes, 16.7% of respondents unambiguously confirmed beneficial effect of phytoestrogens on menopause symptoms. Half of the respondents had no opinion whether phytoestrogens could be an effective replacement for synthetic drugs based therapies. CONCLUSIONS. Incomplete knowledge of society regarding the use of phytoestrogens indicates the need for raising awareness of patients/consumers in this area by medical staff and dietitians. Phytoestrogens, when taken responsibly, can have many benefits for human health.

Oxidation is an essential reaction in the human body, which determines the expression of proteins in the body. This results in the altered expression like rapid growth resulting in cancers and other disorders. Many synthetic drugs are available in the market that is effective in limiting the free radical generation and the reaction of radicals with cells. Unfortunately, all those synthetic drugs were found to cause side effects and adverse effects in the body. But given the accuracy of the predictability of the results and administration, this research focuses on testing the anti-oxidant efficiency in rat models testing the biochemical parameters. Investigations have also been done on the anti-oxidant activity of Tectona, but every research was concentrated to prove the anti-oxidant activity only. extract had been tested for anti-oxidant activity by estimating various tissue parameters and it showed better activity. As predicted, there is a significant difference in the and results which can be explained are due to the physiological conditions that exist inside the body.

Gastric ulcers or the peptic ulcer is the primary disease that affects the gastrointestinal system. A large extent of the population in the world are suffering from the disease, and the age group of people those who suffer from ulcers are 20-55years. Herbs are known to the human beings that are useful in the treatment of diseases, and there are a lot of scientific investigations that prove the pharmacological activity of herbal drugs. Practitioners have been using the herbal material to treat the ulcers successfully, and the same had been reported scientifically. Numerous publications have been made that proves the antiulcer activity of the plants around the world. The tablets were investigated for the antiulcer activity in two doses 200 and 400mg/kg in albino Wistar rats in the artificial ulcer those are induced by the ethanol. The prepared tablets showed a better activity compared to the standard synthetic drug and the marketed ayurvedic formulation. The tablets showed a dose-dependent activity in ulcer prevention and treatment. Many synthetic drugs are available for the ulcer treatment, and the drugs pose the other problems in the body by showing the side effects and some other reactions. This limits the use of synthetic drugs to treat ulcers effectively. Herbs are known to the human beings that are useful in the treatment of diseases, and there are a lot of scientific investigations that prove the pharmacological activity of herbal drugs.

Due to the different levels of bioactive compounds in tea reported in the literature, the aim of this study was to determine whether commercially available leaf teas could be an important source of phenolics and selected minerals (copper, manganese, iron, zinc, magnesium, calcium, sodium, potassium) and if the differences in the content of these components between various types of tea are significant. It was found that both the amount of these compounds in tea and the antioxidant activity of tea infusions were largely determined by the origin of tea leaves as well as the processing method, which can modify the content of the studied components up to several hundred-fold. The group of green teas was the best source of phenolic compounds (110.73 mg/100 mL) and magnesium (1885 µg/100 mL) and was also characterised by the highest antioxidant activity (59.02%). This type of tea is a great contributor to the daily intake of the studied components. The average consumption of green tea infusions, assumed to be 3–4 cups (1 L) a day, provides the body with health-promoting polyphenol levels significantly exceeding the recommended daily dose. Moreover, drinking one litre of an unfermented tea infusion provides more than three times the recommended daily intake of manganese. Tea infusions can be a fairly adequate, but only a supplementary, source of potassium, zinc, magnesium, and copper in the diet. Moreover, it could be concluded that the antioxidant activity of all the analysed types of tea infusions results not only from the high content of phenolic compounds and manganese but is also related to the presence of magnesium and potassium.

Coronavirus belongs to the family of Coronaviridae, comprising single-stranded, positive-sense RNA genome (+ ssRNA) of around 26 to 32 kilobases, and has been known to cause infection to a myriad of mammalian hosts, such as humans, cats, bats, civets, dogs, and camels with varied consequences in terms of death and debilitation. Strikingly, novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV), later renamed as severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2), and found to be the causative agent of coronavirus disease-19 (COVID-19), shows 88% of sequence identity with bat-SL-CoVZC45 and bat-SL-CoVZXC21, 79% with SARS-CoV and 50% with MERS-CoV, respectively. Despite key amino acid residual variability, there is an incredible structural similarity between the receptor binding domain (RBD) of spike protein (S) of SARS-CoV-2 and SARS-CoV. During infection, spike protein of SARS-CoV-2 compared to SARS-CoV displays 10–20 times greater affinity for its cognate host cell receptor, angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2), leading proteolytic cleavage of S protein by transmembrane protease serine 2 (TMPRSS2). Following cellular entry, the ORF-1a and ORF-1ab, located downstream to 5′ end of + ssRNA genome, undergo translation, thereby forming two large polyproteins, pp1a and pp1ab. These polyproteins, following protease-induced cleavage and molecular assembly, form functional viral RNA polymerase, also referred to as replicase. Thereafter, uninterrupted orchestrated replication-transcription molecular events lead to the synthesis of multiple nested sets of subgenomic mRNAs (sgRNAs), which are finally translated to several structural and accessory proteins participating in structure formation and various molecular functions of virus, respectively. These multiple structural proteins assemble and encapsulate genomic RNA (gRNA), resulting in numerous viral progenies, which eventually exit the host cell, and spread infection to rest of the body. In this review, we primarily focus on genomic organization, structural and non-structural protein components, and potential prospective molecular targets for development of therapeutic drugs, convalescent plasm therapy, and a myriad of potential vaccines to tackle SARS-CoV-2 infection.

Diabetes Mellitus is the most prevalent metabolic disorder which has made it a major health threat worldwide. The available synthetic drugs for the cure of Diabetes mellitus are associated with high cost, various side effects and several limitations. Medicinal plants are the rich depots of the phytochemicals which can be useful for the treatment of chronic disorders. These plants are the better alternative to chemical drugs causing less or no harm to the body. Several plants are traditionally known for their antidiabetic properties but the detail investigation of their active molecules is required in order to be developed as therapeutic drug. Therefore, the present review aims to provide comprehensive information on various Indian medicinal plants, their constituents and mechanism of action for the cure of diabetes mellitus.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to examine public service motivation (PSM) and the connection with collaborative attitudes among a sample of homeland security actors representing the public, private, and nonprofit sectors. Design/methodology/approach – This study examines relationships between measures of PSM and collaboration using original survey data and hierarchical multiple regression. Findings – Findings reveal strong positive relationships between PSM measures and attitudes toward collaboration at the individual and organizational level. Research limitations/implications – Survey results are cross-sectional and are from respondents participating in a single state's homeland security summit. Practical implications – It is expected that results can be used to enhance collaboration at the individual and organizational levels. At the organizational level, results can be used for matching individuals with collaborative opportunities. At the individual level, results can be used for enhanced self-reflection and effectiveness purposes. Originality/value – This study provides insights on the relationship between PSM measures and collaborative attitudes. The research contributes to the body of scholarly work connecting PSM and correlates of interest.

This study involved presentation of animate objects under labeling and non-labeling conditions and examination of participants' looking pattern across these conditions. Results revealed a surprisingly consistent way in which adults look at the pictures of animate objects. The head/eyes of the animals were a typical region attracting a number of fixations, but also some other parts of animals (e.g. the tail in cats, or the udder in cows and the body in snakes). Furthermore, not only did participants tend to look at similar regions of the pictures of animate objects, but also the looking order to these regions was consistent across participants. However, contrary to the original predictions, these patterns of fixations were similar across the naming and non-naming conditions ('Look at the <target>!', 'Look at the picture!' and 'What's this?', respectively), which led to the conclusion that participants' consistency in processing animate objects was not reflecting underlying mental representation evoked by labels, but was rather driven by the structural similarity of animate objects, in particular the presence of a head.

Immunomodulation had been in application in medical systems and the traditional Indian systems like Ayurveda. It has various applications in medicine for altering the defence of the body that is immunity. A lot of conditions that require immunomodulation are supported by drugs for immune suppression and immune stimulation. They are often called as immune suppressants and immune stimulants. There are other class of drugs, immune adjuvants. Synthetic drugs are notorious for causing side effects and the herbal alternatives had been investigated for the activity. So the herbs stand as the alternatives for the synthetic drugs in better treating the disease that concern the immune system. The inconsistency of the in-vivo response of the immunity, with the phytochemicals, is also a limiting step for their effective usage as immunomodulatory agents when it comes to practical application. Overall, herbs had been supplying the chemical constituents that can be used directly or in the purified form as immunomodulatory agents. This review is the segregation of the various methods available to perform the screening of the drugs and extracts for immunomodulatory activity. This paper also enlists various herbs used for immunomodulation and had been proven for the same recently from 2010 to date.

Cholesterol is a waxy substance which is mainly made in the body. Cholesterol can provide benefits. However, having too much cholesterol in the blood can increase risk of cardiovascular disease. Prevention and treatment of cardiovascular disease can be done by taking synthetic drugs such as statin. Due to side effects of synthetic drugs, it is necessary to substitute synthetic drugs with herbal plant and some natural component in these plants. The important ones is garlic. Garlic contain organosulphur compounds such as diallyldisulphide (DADS), dipropyldisulphide (DPDS), diallytrisulphide (DATS) and dipropyltrisulphide (DPTS) which have anti artherogenic effects. Garlic also have active agent allicin, can reduce the levels of cholesterol. This research was conducted at the Experimental Animal Enclosure Installation, Center for Veterinary Farma Surabaya with 3 experimental groups. Animals used in this research were female mice 2 months old were feeding with high cholesterol feed such as fried offal of chicken twice a day as much 0,5 cc/ day every 3 days. On the 3rd day, the levels of cholesterol in each group was examined. On the 4th day, mice in group 3 were given 1cc of garlic juice. 1 hour later mice was examined blood cholesterol using Strip Test Easy Touch GCU. The results through T-paired test on SPSS stated that (p < 0,05), it means there is influence between the 3 treatment of mice. This results it can be concluded that the provision of garlic juice can reduced blood cholesterol levels in mice after fed with high cholesterol.

Abstract Health promotion acknowledges the reciprocal relationship between health-related behaviours and the environments in which people live, considers that the environment is made up of different subsystems and emphasises the relationships and dependencies between these subsystems. Our workshop acknowledges the multi-faceted nature of health promotion and intends to provoke thinking, ideas and tools for health promotion to help to expand skills and knowledge to develop health promotion strategies, policies and interventions. This workshop will offer examples and provoke discussions on how to develop, evolve and improve health promotion practices. First, an overview of the European health promotion landscape is presented. This information is based on data collection conducted in 2018 in the European Joint Action Chrodis Plus. Next, we have two interlinked presentations to describe how to institutionalize health promotion thorough legislation, assess health promotion actions nationwide, and foster development in municipalities enforced by legislation. These presentations illustrate the developments in Finland, offer examples and highlight the importance of ministerial level actions for health promotion. The nationwide benchmarking system for assessment has existed for over ten years and offers an example for other countries. The two last presentations address specific health and well-being issues: (1) tobacco control in Portugal and Israel and (2) the promotion of older people’s health and well-being in Iceland. The presentation on tobacco control is an example of inter-dependencies of different stake-holders. The presentation from Iceland will stimulate a discussion on how to start and conduct the nationwide implementation of an evidence based health promotion intervention and what the role governments, municipalities, and NGOs should be. The workshop is a regular workshop. Time for discussion is offered in four spots, (1st) after the first presentation, (2nd) after the second and third presentations, (3rd) after the fourth and (4th) final discussion after the fifth presentation. Key messages Promising methods for health promotion exist. The challenge is how to implement effectively. Legislation is a powerful tool to enhance health promotion practices.
