<p class="AbstractText"><em>The use of electronic cigarettes (e-cigarettes) has spread widely and increased dramatically among young people aroud the world. Variations in product design, taste, and marketing patterns increase the young people's interest in electronic cigarettes. Even many electric cigarettes are sold in shoppinng cebters and online, so they are easy to reach by teenagers. This study aims to analyze oxidative stress due to exposure to e-cigarettes by assessing the difference in blood MDA levels in the control and treatment groups. The method used is the Posttest Only Control Group Design.</em> <em>Thirty two male wistar rats divided into four treatments goups: K1 (SC (-), EE (-)), K2 (SC (-), EE(-)), P1 (SC(-),  EE (+) 15 times), and P2 (SC (-), EE (+) 30 times). The treatment is given for 5 minutes/ day for 50 days. Termination was carried out on the 50<sup>th</sup> day using ketamine. Intracardial blood sampling for examination of MDA levels by the TBARS method. The data obtained were tested by Kruskal Wallis with a significance of p &lt;0.05. MDA blood levels in P2 were significantly higher than P1 (p =0,035), K2 (p =0,001) and K1 (p =0,001). This study shows that e-cigarettes can cause oxidative stress in experimental animals.</em></p>

Abstract: Herbal plant is often used to treat any kind of disease. There are many kinds of plants in Minahasa used as traditional medicine, inter alia daun sendok (Plantago major L.). Daun sendok is often used to treat bleeding. This study was aimed to obtain the effectiveness of daun sendok extract on bleeding time in male Wistar rats. This was a true experimental study with a posttest only group design. This study was conducted at the Laboratory of Pharmacology Faculty of Medicine University of Sam Ratulangi. Total samples were 14 rats divided into 2 groups: control group and treatment group. Wounds of 2 mm depth were perfomed on the rat tails of the treatment group followed by application of daun sendok extract. The results showed that the average bleeding time of the control group was 51.87 seconds meanwhile of the treatment group was 29.67 seconds. The unpaired t-test between the two groups showed a p value of 0.000. Conclusion: Daun sendok (Plantago major L.) extract could reduce the bleeding time in male Wistar rats. Di wilayah Minahasa terdapat banyak jenis tanaman yang digunakan sebagai obat tradisional, salah satunya ialah daun sendok (Plantago major L.) yang seringkali digunakan untuk mengobati perdarahan. Penelitian ini berrtujuan untuk mengetahui efektivitas ekstrak daun sendok terhadap waktu perdarahan tikus Wistar jantan. Jenis penelitian ialah true experimental dengan post test only control group design yang dilakukan di Laboratorium Farmakologi Fakultas Kedokteran Unsrat dengan total sampel berjumlah 14 ekor tikus Wistar yang dibagi menjadi 2 kelompok yaitu: kelompok kontrol dan kelompok perlakuan menggunakan ekstrak daun sendok. Pada kelompok uji diaplikasikan ekstrak daun sendok setelah dilakukan perlukaan di bagian ekor tikus sedalam 2 mm. Hasil penelitian memperlihatkan rerata waktu perdarahan pada kelompok kontrol ialah 51,87 detik sedangkan pada kelompok perlakuan 29,67 detik. hasil uji t tidak berpasangan antara kedua kelompok mendapatkan nilai p=0,000. Simpulan: Ekstrak daun sendok (Plantago major L.) efektif dalam memperpendek waktu perdarahan pada tikus Wistar.Kata kunci: waktu perdarahan, daun sendok, tikus Wistar

Background: ulcer is a pathological condition characterized by the loss of epithelial tissue. The average prevalence of ulcers in the oral cavity ranges between 15-30%. Paste of mangosteen rind which agent called xanthone can accelerate ulcer healing process, however histopathological observation of PMN (Polymorphonuclear) numbers and fibroblasts cells are required.Purpose: to determine the ability of mangosteen rind in treating ulcers caused by infection, mechanical and chemical trauma from the numbers of PMN and fibroblasts cells.Method: experimental studies, pre-posttest control group design, with randomized technique, total sample of 36 Male Wistar rats were divided into 6 groups @ 6 where 3 treatment groups were smeared paste of rind mangosteen and the others without treatment, then from each group were decapitated onday 3rd, 7th and 10th. Result: Ulcer from mechanical and chemical trauma had been healing on 7th day compared with untreated on 9th day. Similarly ulcer infection has been healing on 9th day compared with untreated on 10th day. Anova test(repeated) shows that there is diameter difference significantly between day 1 to 8 (pvalue<0,001). The usage of xanthone decreases amount of PMN cells during inflammation phase and increases amount of fibroblast cells during proliferation phase.Conclusion: xanthone could accelerate healing process as well as shrinkage of ulcus diameter compared with untreated ulcer.

Background: The activation of Nrf2/HO-1 pathway has been shown to protect against cisplatin- induced nephrotoxicity by reducing oxidative stress. Berberine (Ber), an isoquinoline alkaloid, has demonstrated antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-apoptotic activities in various experimental models. Aim: To check the effect of Ber on cisplatin-induced nephrotoxicity and to explore the involved mechanism. Methods: Adult male Wistar rats were divided into 6 groups: Normal, cisplatin-control, treatment groups and per se group. Normal saline and Ber (20, 40 and 80 mg/kg; p.o.) was administered to rats for 10 days. A single intraperitoneal injection of cisplatin (8 mg/kg) was injected on 7th day to induced nephrotoxicity. On 10th day, rats were sacrificed, the kidney was removed and stored for the estimation of various parameters. Results: As compared to cisplatin-control group, Ber pretreatment improved renal function system and preserved renal architecture. It also diminished oxidative stress by upregulating the expression of Nrf2/HO-1 proteins. In addition, Ber attenuated the cisplatin mediated inflammation and apoptosis. Furthermore, it also reduced the phosphorylation of p38/JNK and PARP/Beclin-1 expression in the kidney. Conclusion: Ber attenuated renal injury by activating Nrf2/HO-1 and inhibiting JNK/p38MAPKs/ PARP/Beclin-1 expression which prevented oxidative stress, inflammation, apoptosis and autophagy in renal tissue.

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of AIUEO therapy on the speech ability of stroke patients who have motor aphasia in Raja Ahmad Thabib Hospital Tanjungpinang. The research design used was quasi experiment with the Nonequivalent Control Group Design approach to 9 respondents who were divided into 9 treatment groups and 9 control groups. The results showed that there were significant differences in the functional ability of communication between the control and treatment groups with a value of p <0.05 (p = 0.007 at a = 0.05) using the Wilcoxon Test statistical test. Conclusion, the influence of AIUEO therapy on the speech ability of stroke patients with motor aphasia in the treatment and control groups at Ahmad Thabib Hospital Tanjungpinang.   Keywords: Speech Ability, Motor Aphasia Stroke, AIUEO Therapy

Oxidative stress is an imbalance between free radicals and antioxidants, and is an important etiological factor in the development of hypertension. Recent experimental evidence suggests that subpressor doses of angiotensin II elevate oxidative stress and blood pressure. We aimed to investigate the oxidative stress related mechanism by which a subpressor dose of angiotensin II induces hypertension in a normotensive rat model. Normotensive male Wistar rats were infused with a subpressor dose of angiotensin II for 28 days. The control group was sham operated and infused with saline only. Plasma angiotensin II and H2O2 levels, whole-blood glutathione peroxidase, and AT-1a, Cu/Zn SOD, and p22phox mRNA expression in the aorta was assessed. Systolic and diastolic blood pressures were elevated in the experimental group. There was no change in angiotensin II levels, but a significant increase in AT-1a mRNA expression was found in the experimental group. mRNA expression of p22phox was increased significantly and Cu/Zn SOD decreased significantly in the experimental group. There was no significant change to the H2O2 and GPx levels. Angiotensin II manipulates the free radical-antioxidant balance in the vasculature by selectively increasing O2− production and decreasing SOD activity and causes an oxidative stress induced elevation in blood pressure in the Wistar rat.

Abstract: Overtraining accelerates aging due to the excessive production of free radicals that can cause oxidative stress. Banana floret extract contains bioactive compounds with antioxidant capacity which can increase the body's defence to deal with the oxidative stress by increasing the level of superoxide dismutase (SOD). This study was aimed to prove that the banana (Musa x paradisiaca) floret extract could prevent the decrease of superoxide dismutase (SOD) levels in overtraining-induced mice (Mus musculus) BALB/c liver. This was a true experimental study with the post-test only control group design. Subjects were 36 male mice (Mus musculus), BALB/c strain, 12 weeks old, weighing 20-22 g, which were divided into two groups with 18 mice each. The control group (P0) was treated with a placebo of 1 ml aquadest and overtrained for 14 days meanwhile the treatment group (P1) was treated with banana (Musa x paradisiaca) floret extract of 400 mg/kgBW/day and overtrained for 14 days. The results showed that after 14-day treatment, the mean SOD level in the liver tissue of the P0 group was 568.82±9.558 U/mg protein whereas in the P1 group was 588.37±10.629 U/mg protein (P < 0.01). The t-independent test showed a t value of -5.804 and a P value of 0.000 which indicated that after treatment, the levels of SOD in liver tissue of both groups were significantly different. Conclusion: Banana (Musa x paradisiaca) floret extract could prevent the decrease of superoxide dismutase (SOD) levels in the liver tissue of overtraining-induced mice (Mus musculus) BALB/c.Keywords: banana floret, SOD, liver, overtrainingAbstrak: Aktivitas fisik berlebih mempercepat penuaan karena meningkatkan produksi radikal bebas yang dapat menyebabkan stres oksidatif. Jenis penelitian ialah eksperimental murni dengan post test only control group design. Subjek penelitian ialah 36 ekor mencit (Mus Musculus) BALB/c, jantan, berumur 12 minggu, berat badan 20-22 gr, yang dibagi menjadi dua kelompok masing-masing berjumlah 18 ekor mencit. Kelompok kontrol (P0) diberikan plasebo berupa aquadest sebanyak 1 ml dengan aktivitas fisik berlebih selama 14 hari, dan kelompok perlakuan (P1) diberikan ekstrak floret pisang raja (Musa x paradisiaca) dosis 400 mg/kgBB mencit per hari dicampur aquadest hingga 1 ml dengan aktivitas fisik berlebih selama 14 hari. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan rerata kadar SOD jaringan hati pada kelompok kontrol (P0) sesudah perlakuan (post-test) ialah 568,82±9,558 U/mg protein, sedangkan pada kelompok perlakuan (P1) ialah 588,37± 10,629 U/mg protein. Analisis kemaknaan dengan T-Independent mendapatkan nilai t= -5,804 dan nilai P = 0,000 yang menunjukkan bahwa sesudah perlakuan (post-test), kadar SOD jaringan hati pada kedua kelompok berbeda sangat bermakna. Simpulan: Ekstrak floret pisang raja (Musa x paradisiaca) dapat mencegah penurunan kadar SOD pada hati mencit (Mus musculus) BALB/c dengan aktivitas fisik berlebih.Kata kunci: floret pisang raja, SOD, hati, aktivitas fisik berlebih

This article discusses the using of risalah of tajwid digital apps in increasing the students of SMA Negeri 4 Pinrang abilities in reading al-Qur’an. The using of risalah of tajwid digital apps was by optimazing the technology of computer that running by risalah of tajwid digital apps, that able to create the learning environment to prepare the options that can stimulated the students to use the potential cognitive. The objectives of this research was to get the empirical data about the students’ ability in reading Alquran before and after taught by using risalah digital of tajwid science and to get the empirical data about students’ ability in reading Alquran before and after using text book as well as to get the information about the difference in students’ level of ability in reading Alquran at the experiment class and the control class. The research design is used nonequivalent control group design, it means that in this design the experiment class nor the control class was not selected randomly.The research results are: (1) The level of students’ ability in reading Alquran in the experiment class before the treatment was classified in poor category, however, after given the treatment it was in good category. (2) The level of students’ ability in reading Alquran in the control class before the treatment was in poor category, however, after given the treatment it was in good category. (3) There are difference of students’ level ability in reading Alquran in the experiment class and the control class.

This study aimed to determine the effects of red fruit (Pandanus conoideus Lam) oil on MDA levels and spermatozoa quality in mice (Mus musculus) exposed to MSG. The quality includes motility, viability, concentration, and morphology of spermatozoa. This experimental study used randomized post-test only control group design. The subjects of this study were 25 mice (Mus musculus), divided into 5 groups (5 mice per group). K- group received distilled water for 35 days. K+ group received 4 mg/g BW MSG for 21 days. P1, P2, and P3 treatment groups received 4 mg/g BW MSG for 21 days and 0.02; 0.04; 0.08 ml/g BW red fruit oil, respectively, from day 22 to 35. The results showed that mean spermatozoa morphology in K-, K+, P1, P2, P3 groups were as follows: 0.86; 0.56; 0.67; 0.61; and 0.87 (%). The spermatozoa concentrations were sequentially as follows: 21; 10; 15; 32,8,19 (107 cells/ml). The spermatozoa's vitalities were as follows: 0,64; 0,14; 0,24; P2: 0.36; 0.68 (%). MDA levels were respectively: 0.29; 0.60; 0.35; 0.23; and 0.19 (nm). As a conclusion, testicular MDA levels in mice exposed to MSG and given with red fruit oil were lower than those in mice exposed to MSG without receiving red fruit oil. The quality of spermatozoa in mice exposed to MSG and receiving red fruit oil was higher than that of mice exposed to MSG without being given with red fruit oil.

This study aims to look at the histopathological picture of the dorsal arteries of the penis of the hiperlipidemic wistar rats (Rattus novergicus) induction by high-fat diet that seen in terms of lumen diameter and thickness of the arterial endotelium wall. Hyperlipidemia is a risk factor for ateriosclerosis in the penile arteries causing erectile dysfunction in men. This study is an experimental study with a randomized posttest only control goup design. The sample are  10 individuals adult male wistar rats aged 3-4 months with a range of body weight 150-200 grams. Before treatment, adaptation was carried out for 7 days. After that the sample rats in the treatment group were made hyperlidemic by feeding lard for 50 days. Then surgery is performed for histopathological preparations at the posttest. To determine the differences in endotelium thickness and arterial lumen diameter in the two groups, an independent t-test was used. Thick diameter data of the endotelium and dorsal arteries of the penis of the wistar rat between the lower treatment group and the control group. The difference that occurred was statistically significant (p <0.05). So it can be concluded that the provision of high-fat diet (hyperlipidemia) decreases the lumen diameter and endotelium thickness of dorsal arteries penis. This research is motivated by the importance of developing students’s adversity quotient (AQ). This research examines the difference of students’s AQ in Guided Inquiry learning with Concrete-Representational-Abstract approach (ITCRA) and students’s AQ in conventional learning. This research is quasi experiment with nonequivalent control group design. The population is students which grade eighth in SMPN 1 Padang Panjang, and the samples is selected two classes from seven existing classes. Instruments used to collect data is scale of adversity quotient dan intervies guidelines. Data obtained were analyzed using mean difference t-test. The results show that there are differences of student’s AQ getting ITCRA learning and student’s AQ getting conventional learning.Keywords: Guided Inquiry, Concrete-Representational-Abstract, Adversity Quotient
