The kihapis a technique used in several oriental martial arts. It is a yell used by practitioners with the ex pectation of enhancing the force of a hit. However, the real effect of using the kihapis unknown. Therefore, this study aims to compare the peak of acceleration of the Dolio-chaguikick in taekwondo performed with and without the use of kihap. Twenty two experienced taekwondo practitioners performed 30 kicks each against a punching bag, alternating in random order with and without kihap, while the acceleration of the punching bag was measured. A t-test was used to compare the difference between the mean acceleration in both conditions. Higher values were found with the use of kihap(7.8 ± 2.8 g) than without the use of kihap(7.1 ± 2.4 g), p< 0.01, r= 0.57. The results indicate that kihapenhances the impact of the kick.

This research sought to establish the impact of a 10-week program combining mixed martial arts (MMA) and one-to-one psychotherapy on young males’ mental health and determine factors that predict help-seeking behavior in at-risk males. Preparticipation and post-participation interviews were employed as the method of data collection. Seven males (20–35 years; M = 24.57) completed preparticipation interviews and five completed follow-up interviews. Thematic analysis of preparticipation revealed that help-seeking behavior in at-risk males is impeded by the presence of male gender stereotypes, the absence of positive role models, as well as difficulty navigating challenging social landscapes. Post-participation interviews revealed that the sport provided structure and fitness for at-risk males, while the counseling was pivotal for personal growth. Improved relationships, work life, and self-esteem were also observed. The sporting element of the program helped to reduce stigma associated with engaging in psychotherapy, and positive male relationships were noted as particularly impactful. Findings support previous research indicating that combining sports and psychotherapy positively impacts young males’ mental health. Sport provides an acceptable doorway to psychotherapy, providing space to explore personal issues.

The method used is the ex post facto method which is a research method used to solve or answer the problems faced in the current situation. The population in this study were members of the Indonesian Armed Forces in the Army Pangalengan. The sample used amounted to 27 people selected through simple random sampling technique. The instrument used was in the form of a questionnaire with the number of questions used 35 questions with instrument reliability 0.893. The results of the test of significance level indicate that the value of Sig. (2-tailed) of 0,000 smaller than <0.05, which means that there is a significant influence of Yongmoodo martial arts on the confidence of members of the Army. The results of processing the confidence percentage data were 91.78%, with sub-variables of confidence in self-ability 92.59%, optimistic 82.96%, objective 90.33%, and responsible 91.85%, rational and realistic 89, 38%. The conclusion of this study is that there is a significant influence on the yongmoodo military martial arts against the confidence of members of the TNI-AD SECATA, Pangalengan.

This paper investigates the impact of changes in judging criteria on 10-8 scores in Zuffa-owned mixed martial arts (MMA) promotions. Utilizing a differences-in-differences framework, the 2017 liberalization of 10-8 scoring criteria in the Unified Rules of MMA is examined across various judge groups. Findings suggest that traveling judges and Nevada judges – those most likely to be at the forefront of the regulatory evolution of the sport – had already liberalized their 10-8 scoring one year prior to the effective date of the new criteria. Other judges appear to have effectively implemented the new criteria since January 2017 with 10-8 probabilities on par with traveling and Nevada judges. The effect of an earlier change in judging criteria is also examined in Nevada. Results suggest the numerous and distributed regulatory agencies involved in the sport of MMA were effective in the implementation of new policies for scoring rounds.

The activities of law enforcement officers are characterized by significant psycho-emotional and physical stress. Therefore, a high level of physical preparedness and psychophysiological characteristics are an important component in the structure of preparedness of cadets in higher education institutions with specific training conditions that train police officers. Research aimed at finding of effective ways of their improvement is relevant. Experts note the importance of studying the impact of different sports on the preparedness of cadets. We conducted a study of the indicators of the preparedness of the cadets who during the year of study were engaged in the program "Special Physical Training" without attending sectional classes. We compared their results with the results of the cadets who trained in the kickboxing section. The results show that the traditional curriculum of the discipline "Special Physical Training" effectively contributes to the improvement of the physical preparedness (endurance, muscle strength). The process of the improving of the psychophysiological characteristics (simple reaction to sound and visual stimuli, choice reaction, reaction to a moving object) in the educational process of "Special Physical Training" needs to be optimized. Sectional martial arts (kickboxing) classes are an effective means of extracurricular activities of the cadets. They help to increase their physical fitness and psychophysiological characteristics.

Martial arts has many benefits not only in self-defence, but also in improving physical fitness and mental well-being. In our research we focused on analyzing the velocity, impulse, momentum and impact force of the Taekwondo sine-wave punch and reverse-step punch. We evaluated these techniques in comparison with the martial arts styles of Hapkido and Shaolin Wushu and investigated the kinematic properties. We developed a sensing system which is composed of an ICSensor Model 3140 accelerometer attached to a punching bag for measuring dynamic acceleration, Kinovea motion analysis software and 2 GoPro Hero 3 cameras, one focused on the practitioner’s motion and the other focused on the punching bag’s motion. Our results verified that the motion vectors associated with a Taekwondo practitioner performing a sine-wave punch, uses a unique gravitational potential energy to optimise the impact force of the punch. We demonstrated that the sine-wave punch on average produced an impact force of 6884 N which was higher than the reverse-step punch that produced an average impact force of 5055 N. Our comparison experiment showed that the Taekwondo sine-wave punch produced the highest impact force compared to a Hapkido right cross punch and a Shaolin Wushu right cross, however the Wushu right cross had the highest force to weight ratio at 82:1. The experiments were conducted with high ranking black belt practitioners in Taekwondo, Hapkido and Shaolin Wushu.

The COVID-19 pandemic brought new challenges in all aspects of life. It largely brought the sports sector to a halt: major events were postponed or canceled, while gyms and training centers were closed due to repeated lockdowns and social distancing rules and regulations. In the private sports sector, some instructors adopted technological means of maintaining contact with their students in an attempt to retain customers and maintain a high volume of cash flow. Our work focuses on the martial arts (MA) sector in Israel during two crucial periods in 2020: The first lockdown of March through June, when all sports activities were banned, and the period following it, when trainers were allowed to commence training under some regulations. Using data collected from 199 MA instructors, we test for their level and means of engagement with trainees during the lockdown, and the impact these had on customer retention in the period that followed. Using latent class analysis, we establish an empirically based typology of retention schemes (low contact, high contact, and maverick), and test whether these influenced the financial performance of MA studios. Our findings show that the financial damage and the return rate of trainees do not vary between the three types. We offer some insights into the uniqueness of the MA field, and how this may explain these counter-intuitive results.
