The activities conducted in Maros regency Tanralili district Purnakarya village in chickens and beef cattle groups Cedde Jaya. The main source of livestock feed cows during the dry season are dry forage, rice straw, corn straw and hay crops of nuts which happened to be planted at the time of drought. Besides, leaf  Gamal is also a main feed in dry  season. Number of cattle per family ownership only 2-3  head extensively maintained. Range chicken as well as extensive maintenance, ownership on average 2-5 chicken each household group.  To increase the productivity of cattle, the team provides counseling, coaching, training and mentoring as well as providing some main of facilities such as cattle shed, biogas digester, planting banana. Results are expected in the presence of  activities is the avaibility of green forage mainly during the dry season, so that the cattle population will increase, the biogas as a fuel  alternative to kerosin and LPG gas, liquid and solid fertilizer from biogas by-product process, the increasing population of chicken qualified (meat and eggs as well as the day old chick).  Besides the problem of production is also done on the farm management. The activities is expected that will increase the incomes of farmers further improve the welfare of Maros regency. For the sustainability of the program it is necessary supervision and guidance are routinely performed by the related department along with the college.

Limitation of feed and low nutrient consumption in dry season cause a longer period of cattle fattening. The problems can be overcome by applying a cheaper and easier technology namely feed conservation technology. Method applied were extension, training, and mentoring. The result showed that the farmers’ participation were very active refers to their present and questiones raised deal with the materials presented. The highly participation also found during the training and mentoring since the feed conservation technology was an innovative activity and high benefit. The activities result were two units of representative model cattle cage due to clean and hygienic aspects, one unit of feed storage, 400 kg corn straw silage, 300 kg rice straw ammoniation, and 100 kg concentrate.

The objective of this study was to estimate and assess trends in enteric methane (CH4) emissions from the Manitoba beef cattle population from the base year of 1990 to 2008 using mathematical models. Two empirical (statistical) models: Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Tier 2 and a nonlinear equation (Ellis), and two dynamic mechanistic models: MOLLY (v3) and COWPOLL were used. Beef cattle in Manitoba were categorized in to 29 distinct subcategories based on management practice, physiological status, gender, age and production environment. Data on animal performance, feeding and management practices and feed composition were collected from the literature as well as from provincial and national sources. Estimates of total enteric CH4 production from the Manitoba beef cattle population varied between 0.9 and 2.4 Mt CO2 eq. from 1990 to 2008. Regardless of the type of models used, average CH4 emissions for 2008 were estimated to be 45.2% higher than 1990 levels. More specifically, CH4 emissions tended to increase between 1990 and 1996. Emissions were relatively stable between 1996 and 2002, increased between 2003 and 2005, but declined by 13.2% between 2005 and 2008, following the same trend as that observed in the beef cattle population. Models varied in their estimates of CH4 conversion rate (Ym, percent gross energy intake), emission factor (kg CH4 head−1 yr−1) and CH4 production. Total CH4 production estimates ranged from 1.2 to 2.0 Mt CO2 eq. for IPCC Tier 2, from 0.9 to 1.5 Mt CO2 eq. for Ellis, from 1.3 to 2.1 Mt CO2 eq. for COWPOLL and from 1.5 to 2.4 Mt CO2 eq. for MOLLY. The results indicate that enteric CH4 estimates and emission trends in Manitoba were influenced by the type of model and beef cattle population. As such, it is necessary to use appropriate models for reliable estimates for enteric CH4 inventory. A more robust approach may be to integrate different models by using mechanistic models to estimate regional Ym values, which may then be used as input for the IPCC Tier 2 model.

NDF AND ADF DIGESTIBILITY WHICH GET THE SUPPLEMENTED UREA MOLASSES MULTINUTRIENT BLOCK (UMMB) OF SOME CROP RESIDUES TYPE AND LOCAL GRASS ON ONGOLE CROSSBRED CATTLE. A research evaluating dry matter (DM) and organic matter (OM) digestibility of crops residues and local grass supplemented urea molasses multinutrient block (UMMB) on Ongole crossbred cattle (PO). Four male PO cattle, 12 – 18 months of age with ± 100 kg of body weight were used in this experiment. Latin Square Design 4 x 4 with 4 cows and 4 treatments was used. The treatments were : R1 : UMMB + local grass, R2: UMMB + Corn straw, R3: UMMB + Rice straw, and R4: UMMB + peanut straw. The results showed that there were significant effect (P<0.01) of treatments on NDF and ADF digestibility. C1 showed that NDF and ADF digestibility of local grass (68.44% and 61.37%) were higher (P<0.05) compared to crop residues (corn straw 65.25% and 58.59%, rice straw 62.63% dan 52.80%, and peanut straw 67.53% and 59.81%) respectively. C2 showed that NDF and ADF digestibility of legume straw was higher than grasses straw; and C3 showed that  NDF and ADF digestibility of rice straw was lower than corn straw. The results have concluded that : 1. NDF and ADF digestibility of local grass were higher compared to crop residues. 2. NDF and ADF digestibility of legume straw (peanut straw) was higher than grasses straw  (corn straw and ricce straw);3. NDF and ADF digestibility of  corn straw was higher than peanut straw.Key words: NDF and ADF digestibility, crop residues, UMMB, ongole crossbred cattle

<p>Siwab or its extension Mandatory cattle breeding is a manifestation of government commitment in increasing beef cattle population, and as a target for meat sufficiency in 2026. The program is believed to lead Indonesia to achieve beef self-sufficiency in the next 5-10 years. Beef cattle can be maximized in order to produce calves, and become a government’s focused program on enhancing beef cattle production through artificial insemination (AI). Based on the above problems, the government hopes to develop the program, it should not fail the umpteenth time to fulfil meat needs of the country. The purpose of this review is to describe the SIWAB program and the economic value of female beef cattle produced by AI which produces calf. This study approach is done through literature reviews related to SIWAB program implementation. SIWAB program includes two main programs namely the increase of porong cattle population through artificial insemination of AI and natural mating (Inka). With the AI through prgram, the parent beef cattle can regulate the cow's birth well. The mother cow bunting AI results can increase the selling value higher and can improve the welfare of farmers. The government's policy to pursue targeted beef self-sufficiency by the year 2026 is achieved, but the program must be responded and done well. Government policy to boost short-term beef cattle population can help to meet the needs of beef consumption, and in the long run the economic impact of farmers.</p><p> </p><p>Abstrak</p><p>Program Sapi Induk Wajib Bunting (SIWAB) adalah perwujudan komitmen pemerintah dalam meningkatkan populasi sapi potong dan sebagai target untuk kecukupan daging tahun 2026. Program tersebut diyakini dapat mengantarkan Indonesia mencapai swasembada daging sapi pada 5-10 tahun ke depan. Sapi potong dapat dimaksimalkan potensinya agar dapat menghasilkan pedet, dan menjadi program pemerintah yang difokuskan untuk peningkatan produksi sapi potong melalui inseminasi buatan (IB). Berdasarkan permasalahan tersebut di atas, harapan pemerintah dengan mengembangkan program tersebut tidak boleh gagal ke sekian kalinya dalam mencukupi kebutuhan daging di dalam negeri. Tujuan tulisan review ini adalah untuk  mendiskripsikan program SIWAB dan nilai ekonomi pada usaha sapi potong betina hasil IB yang menghasilkan pedet. Kajian ini merupakan studi pustaka melalui review berbagai referensi terkait pelaksanaan program SIWAB. Program SIWAB mencakup dua program utama yaitu peningkatan populasi sapi porong melalui inseminasi buatan IB dan kawin alam (Inka). Program IB memungkinkan mengatur kelahiran anak sapi dengan baik. Sapi induk bunting hasil IB dapat meningkatkan nilai jual lebih tinggi dan dapat meningkatkan kesejahteraan peternak. Kebijakan pemerintah adalah untuk mengejar swasembada daging sapi yang ditargetkan sampai tahun 2026 bisa tercapai, namun program tersebut harus direspon dan dikerjakan dengan baik. Kebijakan pemerintah untuk menigkatkan populasi sapi potong dalam jangka pendek bisa membantu memenuhi kebutuhan konsumsi daging sapi dan dalam jangka panjang berdampak peningkatan ekonomi peternak.</p>

Abstract Transmission ratio distortion (TRD) is a process when one allele from either parent is preferentially transmitted to the offspring. The identification of genomic regions affected by TRD might help in the detection of lethal alleles or potential genes affecting reproduction. Here, we investigated TRD in crossbreed beef cattle population aiming to identify genomic regions showing altered deviations in segregation that could be affecting reproduction performance. A total of 237 genotyped animals were used including 46 sires, 80 dams, and 111 parent-offspring (trios). The predominant breeds of these animals were Angus (61.83%), Simmental (18.99%), Gelbvieh (6.12%), Charolais (3.65%), Hereford (2.46%) and Limousin (1.57%). After excluding SNPs with minor allele frequency lower than 0.05 and call-rate lower than 0.90, a total of 369,902 autosomal SNPs were retained for further analyses. The SNP-by-SNP analysis was performed within a Bayesian framework using TRDscanv.2.0 software, using 100,000 iterations, with 10,000 iterations being discarded as burn-in. As table 1 shows, 33 SNPs were identified with TRD, considering a Bayes Factor (BF)≥100 and the approximate empirical null distribution of TRD at 0.01% margin error. Among them, 26 SNPs were parent-unspecific and 7 SNPs were parent-specific TRD. For parent-specific TRD, 214 were identified for sire- and 162 for dam-TRD (BF≥100). Among them, 4 SNPs were detected with sire- and dam-TRD in opposite direction of preference of transmission. Preliminary functional and positional analysis was performed using the list of TRD regions with BF≥100 and the approximate empirical null distribution of TRD at 0.01% margin error. For sire-TRD, 14% of the identified QTL (n = 254) were related to non-return rate. For dam-TRD, 21 regions related to conception rate were found (1.5%) and 13 regions related to stillbirth (0.93%). Haplotype analysis is in progress to identify additional candidate regions and alleles with TRD to better understand this phenomenon in a crossbreed beef population.

Economic development, international food and feed demand, and government policies have converted Brazil’s natural ecosystems into agricultural land. The Integrated Farm System Model (IFSM) was evaluated using production, economic, and weather data collected on two cooperating farms in the Legal Amazon and Cerrado biomes in the Midwest state of Mato Grosso, Brazil. Three sustainable agricultural intensification strategies, namely grain supplementation, pasture re-seeding, and pasture fertilization were simulated in IFSM with double the beef cattle stocking density compared to extensive grazing. Livestock dry matter consumption simulated in IFSM was similar for pasture grazing estimates and actual feed consumed by beef cattle on the two collaborating farms. Grain supplementation best balanced beef production and profitability with lower carbon footprint compared to extensive grazing, followed by pasture fertilization and pasture re-seeding. However, pasture re-seeding and fertilization had greater use of water and energy and more nitrogen losses. Human edible livestock feed use was greatest for grain supplementation compared to other modeled systems. While grain supplementation appears more favorable economically and environmentally, greater use of human edible livestock feed may compete with future human food needs. Pasture intensification had greater human edible feed conversion efficiency, but its greater natural resource use may be challenging.

In support of Food-Energy-Water Systems (FEWS) analysis to enhance its sustainability for New Mexico (NM), this study evaluated observed trends in beef cattle population in response to environmental and economic changes. The specific goal was to provide an improved understanding of the behavior of NM’s beef cattle production systems relative to precipitation, temperature, rangeland conditions, production of hay and crude oil, and prices of hay and crude oil. Historical data of all variables were available for the 1973–2017 period. The analysis was conducted using generalized autoregressive conditional heteroscedasticity models. The results indicated declining trends in beef cattle population and prices. The most important predictors of beef cattle population variation were hay production, mean annual hay prices, and mean annual temperature, whereas mean annual temperature, cattle feed sold, and crude oil production were the most important predictors for calf population that weigh under 500 lb. Prices of beef cattle showed a strong positive relationship with crude oil production, mean annual hay prices, rangeland conditions, and mean annual precipitation. However, mean annual temperature had a negative relationship with mean annual beef prices. Variation in mean annual calf prices was explained by hay production, mean annual temperature, and crude oil production. This analysis suggested that NM’s beef cattle production systems were affected mainly and directly by mean annual temperature and crude oil production, and to a lesser extent by other factors studied in this research.

The object of this present work was to determine the effects of supplementation with pellets containing royal poinciana seed meal (PEREM) on feed use, ruminal fermentation efficiency, microbial protein synthesis, blood metabolites and mitigation of methane (CH4) emissions in cattle. The animals used in this experiment were four male Thai native beef cattle (Bos indicus) with initial body weights (BWs) of 125 ± 5.0 kg. Each of the animals were randomly assigned to receive PEREM doses at 0, 50, 100 and 150 g/d, respectively, according to a 4 × 4 Latin square design. Concentrates were fed at 0.5% BW daily, and rice straw was fed ad libitum. There were no significant differences (p > 0.05) on intakes of rice straw, concentrate and total diet. The intake of nutrients did not change among the levels of PEREM supplementation (p > 0.05), except for an intake of crude protein, which was linearly enhanced when increasing the dose of PEREM (p < 0.05). The inclusion of different doses of PEREM did not adversely affect the digestibility of dry matter, organic matter, crude protein, neutral detergent fiber and acid detergent fiber (p > 0.05). Adding various doses of PEREM did not alter ruminal pH and ruminal temperature, while concentrations of ammonia-nitrogen were significantly increased with an increased dose of PEREM supplementation (p < 0.01). The increasing doses of PEREM linearly reduced protozoal numbers (p < 0.01), with the lowest concentration when PEREM was added at 150 g. PEREM supplementation did not change (p > 0.05) the concentration of acetic acid or butyric acid or the ratio of acetic acid to propionic acid. Nevertheless, the total volatile fatty acid and propionic acid content were changed among PEREM levels (p < 0.05), which were linearly increased with an increasing dose of PEREM. At 4 h post feeding, the CH4 concentrations in the rumen of the animal were linearly reduced when the dose of pellets was increased (p < 0.01). In addition, the inclusion of PEREM did not adversely affect other blood metabolites, namely total protein, creatinine and albumin (p > 0.05). Furthermore, microbial crude protein and efficiency of microbial N synthesis were linearly enhanced when increasing levels of PEREM were added. The feeding of PEREM at 150 g/d might be an alternative with the potential to improve rumen fermentation efficiency and reduce the environmental effects produced by ruminants.
