The relevance of this article is stipulated by the fact that development of learning motivation is the most important psycho-pedagogical task, solution of which contributes to improvement of learning quality and knowledge assimilation of students. This article reflects some results of the study of learning motivation of medical students, which was conducted in Kazan State Medical University with the participation of 142 people. Medical students from the first to the third year were asked, in the form of an essay, to continue the phrase: "I love the subject "Physical Education" because...". Based on the analysis of the results we draw conclusions and propose a list of recommendations for teachers, following which can help to increase the level of learning motivation of students. The article proves that, on the basis of the development of motivation to engage in physical activity, it is possible to develop motivation to learn in general. A busy schedule and demanding tasks challenge medical students to adjust their lifestyle and dietary habits. The aim of this study was to identify dietary habits and health-related behaviours among students. A number of 403 students (80.40% female, aged M = 21.21 ± 4.56) enrolled in a medical university provided answers to a questionnaire constructed especially for this research, which was divided into three parts: the first part collected socio-demographic, anthropometric, and medical data; the second part inquired about dietary habits, lifestyle, sleep, physical activity, water intake, and use of alcohol and cigarettes; and the third part collected information about nutrition-related data and the consumption of fruit, vegetables, meat, eggs, fish, and sweets. Data were analysed using SPSS v24. Students usually slept M = 6.71 ± 1.52 h/day, and one-third had self-imposed diet restrictions to control their weight. For both genders, the most important meal was lunch, and one-third of students had breakfast each morning. On average, the students consumed 1.64 ± 0.88 l of water per day and had 220 min of physical activity per week. Data about the consumption of fruit, vegetables, meat, eggs, fish, sweets, fast food, coffee, tea, alcohol, or carbohydrate drinks were presented. The results of our study proved that medical students have knowledge about how to maintain a healthy life and they practice it, which is important for their subsequent professional life.

The study is devoted to the analysis of the formation of physical culture of students in a medical university. The specificity of the medical profession contains a number of important characteristics (emotional and volitional stability, endurance, physical and mental endurance, dexterity in carrying out medical procedures, motor coordination, etc.) that require appropriate physical training. Physical culture in this regard for physicians is not only a part of general culture, but also a professional culture. However, as shown by a sociological survey of medical students, they do not sufficiently assess the degree of importance of the discipline “Physical culture”. This requires the development of new approaches to organizing and conducting physical education classes in a medical University including such as the proposed practice-oriented (D.A. will allow raising the status of the discipline in question in a medical university and linking it with the professional training of medical students.

This paper reviews the literature on student attitude in physical education. First, an overview of the concept of attitude is presented followed by a discussion of why we need to investigate student attitude. Next, there is a detailed discussion of issues related to attitude measurement—factors that often are problematic in research in this area. Both quantitative and qualitative tools are discussed with a particular focus on developing an instrument that has the properties of reliability and validity. The third major section of the paper presents an overview of the results of attitude research in physical education. Finally, the paper concludes with implications for research in this area.

The present study compared differences between Japanese and Swedish schoolchildren in learning motivation-related variables in physical education. The subjects were 1,562 Japanese fifth and sixth graders (776 boys and 786 girls) ranging in age from 10 to 12 years and 573 Swedish fifth graders (306 boys and 267 girls) from 10 to 13 years ( M = 11.4, SD = 0.5). They completed three questionnaires to evaluate the children's learning motivation, factors supporting motivation to learn, and preferences of learning behavior. The questionnaires were taken from Nishida's Diagnosis of Learning Motivation in Physical Education Test, a multidimensional and comprehensive test that measures learning motivation. A 2 times 2 (country by sex) multivariate analysis of variance indicated both Swedish boys and girls scored significantly higher than the Japanese children on most subscales. Results were discussed in relation to differences in the sports environment and culture of the two countries.

BackgroundMedical students and other health care professionals have substantial knowledge of the benefits of regular physical activity. Furthermore, as they have an ethical obligation to prescribe suitable exercises, they can influence their patients' attitude toward physical activity and can become role models for their patients. Physical therapists, who are primary care practitioners, have great potential for promoting physical activity; however, their role is still underestimated by patients and health care professionals.ObjectiveThe objectives of this study were to evaluate physical activity level in students of the Medical University of Silesia in Poland and to focus on the role of physical therapist students in promoting physical activity.DesignThis was a cross-sectional study.MethodsThe final analysis included 300 students from the schools of physical therapy, midwifery, nursing, pharmacy, cosmetology, and medicine at the Medical University of Silesia. The short form of the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) was used to evaluate physical activity level.ResultsPhysical therapist students demonstrated the highest level of physical activity, with 46% demonstrating a high level of physical activity, 54% a moderate level of physical activity, and none a low level of physical activity. The largest group of students with a low level of physical activity comprised students from the school of medicine (26%).LimitationsThe number of respondents was relatively small. The main study limitations included its cross-sectional nature and the possibility of self-report biases. Further research is warranted to expand the study nationally and determine which factors influence physical activity.ConclusionsThere was a large group of medical students who, despite being aware of benefits of physical activity, did not meet the recommended level of physical activity. Physical therapist students are well trained and qualified to promote healthy habits and encourage individuals to undertake regular physical activity.

Aim: The goal of the study was to evaluate the physical activity of physical education teachers from Tarnów schools in their free time. Material and methods: The research is of pilot nature and was carried out in 2018 among 30 teachers, in the 30–50 age group, teaching physical education in primary schools, junior high schools and high schools in Tarnów. The research covered the participants of the subject workshops. The research was carried out by means of a diagnostic survey and a survey technique was used to obtain necessary information and data. Results: Physical education teachers willingly undertake physical activity during their free time, however, it is usually recreational activity. The teachers most eagerly practice once or twice a week. Male teachers showed greater frequency of physical activity. Practicing sports in the past is reflected in the approach to taking care of health and maintaining physical fitness later in life. The way of spending free time of the examined teachers differs depending on gender. Conclusions: Systematic participation of physical education teachers in physical activities is not satisfactory, and yet the teacher should set an example and make students aware of how to care for body and physical health.
