The main purpose of this study was to determine and describe some socio-demographic character of farmers, the extent of adoption of climate change adaptation practices, explore relationship between selected characteristics and climate change adaptation practices as well as determining the problem faced by the farmers for climate change adaptation. Data were collected using interview schedule from a sample of 96 farmers (exactly 30% of population) out of 320 farmers. For selection of the sample of the study simple random sampling technique was followed. Besides the usual descriptive statistical parameter, Pearson’s Product Moment Correlation Coefficient (r) was used for the statistical analysis. Adoption of climate change adaptation practices was determined on 23 selected practices. For comparative analysis of adoption of climate change adaptation practices by the farmers in individual practices “Adoption of Climate Change Adaptation Practices Index (ACAPI)” was calculated. The highest proportion of the farmers adopt ‘Pit crop in homestead’ (ACAPI= 230.7) as climate change adaptation practice. The lowest adopted practice for climate change adaptation was observed ‘Saline tolerant sugarcane variety ISWARDI-40 cultivation’ with ACAPI value of 37.3. The highest proportion (82.3 percent) of the farmer had medium adoption of practices, while 11.5 percent had high and only 6.3 percent had low adoption of climate change adaptation practices.  Among the nine selected characteristics of the farmer’s education, annual income, organizational participation and training received showed positive relationship with adoption of climate change adaptation practices; while their age, family size, farm size aspiration and climate change awareness had no significant relationships. ‘Lack of knowledge regarding modern agricultural technologies’ (64.58 percent) emerged as the most important problem expressed by the farmers.  The foremost suggestion cited by the farmers (54.17 percent) was ‘Organizing more training program for the farmers’. Community involvement should be emergency to practice the climate change adaptation to the study area. So, it’s the demand of time to establish something or some policy to take them in action. The study was conducted to determine the farmers’ attitude towards using agro-chemicals in rice field in Laxmipur district of Bangladesh. Data were collected from seventy farmers following simple random sampling technique, complied and interpreted as per objectives of the study. Most of the farmers were middle aged, had primary level of education with small farm size, medium extension media contact with an average family annual income of about 1350 USD. About 87% of the farmers had low to medium knowledge on use of agro-chemicals in rice cultivation. About 74% of the farmers had moderately favorable attitude towards using agro-chemicals. Family annual income, extension media contact and knowledge on agro-chemical were the most important factors that affect the attitude of the farmers towards using agro-chemicals in crop production. Therefore it is recommended that arrangement of need based training with more extension contact for the farmers will be helpful to improve the behavior of using agro-chemicals.The Agriculturists 2015; 13(2) 105-112

AbstractThe study assessed the knowledge and control of cassava diseases by farmers in Delta State, Nigeria and the resultant implication for agricultural extension. Data were obtained from 569 cassava farmers by a simple random sampling technique. Data were analyzed by means, percentage, frequency counts and binary logit model. Mean results depicted that cassava farmers in the area were 42.5 years old, spent 13 years in schooling, had a farming experience of 9.5 years and had poor (1.68) annual extension contacts. Extension contact and friends and neighbours were the major sources of information on cassava disease control. Results of the logit regression of the relationship between farmers’ characteristics and knowledge of cassava diseases gave an R2 value of 0.74 indicating that age (negative coefficient), education, farming experience, farm size and extension contact were statistically significant in explaining cassava farmers knowledge of disease control measures. Logit estimates for control of diseases indicated that age, farming experience, farm size and extension contact were statistically significant at P<0.05. Although education was crucial in determining farmers’ knowledge, it was not significant in determining adoption of control measures. The study recommends urgent and good extension contact, good government policy on enlightenment of farmers to improve not only farmers’ knowledge but their adoption of disease control measure as well.

Ginger is a high value crop belongs to family Zingiberaceae. Ginger has multiple health benefits and can be easily grown in mid-hill regions of Nepal. The major challenge is the limited availability of information on factors affecting ginger yield. The objective of this project was to analyze different factors influencing ginger production. The study was conducted in Surkhet district of Nepal in 2018. A total of 100 farmers (60 and 40 from Barahtal and Chingad rural municipalities respectively) were selected using simple random sampling technique. Primary data were collected using interview schedule, focus group discussion and key informant interview. Data were analyzed using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) and Microsoft Excel. The descriptive statistics, chi-square test and correlation were used to derive conclusion. The average age and land under ginger cultivation were 41 years and 0.093 hectare respectively. Average ginger production in the study area was 980 kg per ropani. There was a strong positive relationship between farm size and ginger production. Training, subsidy and labor crisis had positive association with ginger production. However, family size and years of schooling were not significant but positively correlated. It is recommended that concerned authorities should give emphasis on farmer training, extension services, and subsidy to enhance ginger production. Int. J. Appl. Sci. Biotechnol.
