In COVID-19, pulmonary edema has been attributed to “cytokine storm”. However, it is known that SARS-CoV2 promotes angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 deficit, increases angiotensin II, and this triggers volume overload. Our report is based on COVID-19 patients with tomographic evidence of pulmonary edema and volume overload to whom established a standard treatment with diuretic (furosemide) guided by objectives: Negative Fluid Balance (NEGBAL approach). Retrospective observational study. We reviewed data from medical records: demographic, clinical, laboratory, blood gas, and chest tomography (CT) before and while undergoing NEGBAL, from 20 critically ill patients. Once the NEGBAL strategy was started, no patient required mechanical ventilation. All cases reverted to respiratory failure with NEGBAL, but subsequently two patients died from sepsis and acute myocardial infarction (AMI). The regressive analysis between PaO2/FiO2BAL and NEGBAL demonstrated correlation (p < 0.032). The results comparing the Pao2Fio2 between admission to NEGBAL to NEGBAL day 4, were statistically significant (p < 0.001). We noted between admission to NEGBAL and day 4 improvement in CT score (p < 0.001), decrease in the superior vena cava diameter (p < 0.001) and the decrease of cardiac axis (p < 0.001). Though our study has several limitations, we believe the promising results encourage further investigation of this different pathophysiological approach.

Abstract. Evacuation is the most important and effective method to save human lives during a tsunami. In this respect, challenges exist in developing quantitative analyses of the relationships between the evacuation potential and the built environment and geographical attributes of coastal locations. This paper proposes a computer-based modelling approach (including inundation, evacuation, and built environment metrics), followed by multivariate regressive analysis, to estimate how those attributes might influence the expected tsunami death ratios of seven Chilean coastal cities. We obtained, for the examined variables, their average values to different thresholds of the death ratio. Also, our statistical analysis allowed us to compare the relative importance of each metric, showing that the maximum flood, the straightness of the street network, the total route length, and the travel time can have a significant impact on the expected death ratios. Moreover, we suggest that these results could lead to spatial planning guidelines for developing new urban areas into exposed territories (if this expansion cannot be restricted or discouraged) or retrofitting existing ones, with the final aim of enhancing evacuation and therefore increasing resilience.

Abstract The relationship between exports, imports andeconomic growth of Ethiopia has been investigated in this paper for the period 1981-2018 by using annual data from World Bank. For the analysis,Vector Auto Regressive Model, Johansen co-integration analysis and the GrangerCausality tests were implemented. The outcome of the analysis reveals that there is no cointegration relation between exports, imports and economic growth inEthiopia. Conversely, we found that there is a strong evidence of bidirectional causality between exports andeconomic growth and a unidirectional causality from export to import. There is also a causality running from import to exports at a 10% significance level that witnessed weak bidirectional causality between imports and exports. This shed light on the importance of giving more emphasis on export-led growth by Ethiopian policy decision makers.

Abstract Purpose To determine myopia progression in children during the COVID-19 and the related factors associated with myopia. Methods All subjects underwent three-timepoint ocular examinations that were measured in July 2019, January, and August 2020. We compared the changes in uncorrected visual acuity (UCVA), mydriatic spherical equivalent (SE), and axial length (AL) between two periods (before and during COVID-19). A questionnaire was performed to investigate risk factors for myopia. Results Compared with before the COVID-19, the mean (S.D.) myopia progression during the COVID-19 was significantly higher in right eyes (− 0.93 (0.65) vs. − 0.33 (0.47) D; p < 0.001). However, the differences in UCVA changes and the axial elongation between two periods were clinically insignificant. Through logistic regressive analysis, we found the difference of the SE changes was associated with the baseline AL (P = 0.028; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.058, 2.632), online education (P = 0.02; 95% CI, 1.587, 8.665), and time of digital screen (p < 0.005; 95% CI, 1.587, 4.450). Conclusions Children were at higher risk of myopia progression during COVID-19, which was associated with the baseline AL, the longtime online learning, and digital screen reading.

The goal of this study is to make evident the strong connections between creativity and quality management, since creativity and quality management subjects currently are observed with an increasing interest all around the world. The methodology of the research is based on the data collection and information about creativity index and ISO 9001:2015 standards, which are applied in developed, medium income developing countries, as well as in low income developing countries. It has been used a regressive analysis followed by analysis of variance, which resulted on the main conclusion of this study that relations between creativity and ISO standards application is strong. The main recommendation is that application of ISO standards relates mostly to quality and its management, and when it comes to quality of products or services, it refers specifically to the perception of extent to which products and services fulfill customer’s expectation and this is related to culture and creativity.

Abstract Research purpose. The research aimed at identifying the main factors influencing export values in the region of Great Britain (GB) for the period of the last 30 years. Design / Methodology / Approach. In order to implement the investigation, the following tasks were intended: (1) To analyse scientific literature and mark out at least five non - dependent variables that impact export values of Great Britain. (2) Basing on findings, outlined in a scientific review, suggest or choose the methodology that is the most appropriate for this kind of tasks’ determination. (3) Collect the data for dependent and non-dependent variables (at least 30 samples). (4) Based on the presented methodology, determine the selected factors’ impact and make the statistical and economic analysis. The research was mainly done using quantitative analysis methods (descriptive, correlation, regressive analysis). Quantitative modelling and descriptive statistics methods are selected for investigation because they can suggest a different approach to analysing the factors influencing export values. Findings. Five non-dependent variables were marked out as factors influencing the export values in the selected region: gross domestic product (GDP); the number of employees in the region; amounts of cargo transportation; average salary in the region and labour costs. Calculation of the correlation coefficients showed that all independent variables were statistically significant. There is a very strong relationship between export values and GDP, employment, and labour costs. Originality / Value / Practical implications. The findings of this research can be applied in order to evaluate and determine the economic impact of the GB processes on the entire world, as Britain’s export values are among the top ten in the world. It is important to emphasise that the deeper analysis of the influencing factors of the volume of export in Great Britain showed an interrelation of these factors. So further investigation of this factor’s impact is essential.

Abstract The prediction of remaining useful life is the key to realize the condition-based maintenance. However, Existing studies on remaining useful life cannot effectively cope with the scenarios with extremely high requirement to stability. In this paper, the conception of anomaly prediction is introduced to solve the problem by expanding the remaining useful life to healthy stage to describe and predict the equipment condition at this stage. To obtain more reasonable health indicator, inverse number is firstly introduced into the feature selection. On this basis, a novel method is put forward, which consists of center optimization, boundary adjustment and regressive analysis, in order to realize the anomaly prediction and fills the gap of the absence to remaining life research at healthy stage. Two validations are subsequently implemented with the open dataset of XJTU-SY. The experimental results and comparison analysis demonstrate the feasibility and the superiority of proposed method, respectively. The dissection to the remaining useful life based anomaly prediction indicates that the related research is essential and of great significant to the condition-based maintenance.

The purpose of this research is to test by conducting a correlation-regression analysis of dividends paid by companies and their market capitalization the hypothesis that with an increase in dividend payments there is an increase in the capitalization of companies. The subject of the study is dividend payments by Russian energy companies and their market capitalization. The study was conducted using methods of statistical analysis of the data presented, a sample method based on data from six Russian PAOs in the energy sector, methods of correlation analysis, regression modeling based on the method of least squares and synthesis of the obtained data. Thus, the research has revealed that Russian energy companies in many cases have a direct linear relationship between dividend payments and market capitalization, but in some places the opposite or non-linear relationship can be seen. The results of this research can be used by Russian companies to develop dividend policy and to make economic forecasts and competent managerial decisions.
