Abstract. Ammal A, Mariam M. 2020. Contribution of non-timber forest products to livelihood of rural communities in Kumbungu District of Northern Ghana. Asian J For 4: 10-14. This survey concentrated on the contribution of Non-Timber Forest Products (NTFPs) to the livelihood of rural communities in the Kumbungu District of Ghana. Data were collected by structured questionnaires and verbal interviews to obtain information from sampled members of the communities' in the Kumbungu District of Northern Ghana. Personal interviews and direct observation were carried out. 200 structured questionnaires were administered randomly to respondents in 5 selected communities in Kumbungu District. The selected communities were Cheyohi, Kpalchi, Kokpeng, Zuolanyili, and Garizew. 40 questionnaires were administered in each community and this was used to prompt information on the uses of NTFPs in the study area. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics (tables, charts, and graphs). The findings indicate that NTFPs are abundant in the study area and are found in all the forest land areas within the communities. NTFPs collection for utilization is usually carried out throughout the year. All the respondents in the five communities collect and use the NTFPs for preparation of food for the family and other purposes. The number of respondents involved in the collection of NTFPs was highest in Kokpeng community (21.3%), while only (18.5%) respondents were involved in the Garizew community. The chi-square test revealed that there were highly significant differences (P>0.05) between the number of respondents involved in the collection and non-collection of NTFPs in the district. The lowest income ranged between 1-25 (GHC) Ghana cedis week-1 whilst the highest income was 65+ Ghana cedis was generated by respondents in the district. 12.5% respondents in Zuolanyili had income ranging between 1-25 Ghana cedis week-1 and 10% of respondents' income ranged above 65+. 47.5% and 30% of respondents’ income ranged between 25-45 and 45-65 Ghana cedis respectively in the Zuolanyili community. Respondents in the Kokpeng community had the highest income of 30% above 65+ whilst Garizew had the lowest income 5% above 65+.

BACKGROUND Today, the Internet may be a promising tool for interventions for pregnant women. However, these kinds of tools are only helpful if users are ready to use them. OBJECTIVE The present study was conducted with the aim of readiness assessment of pregnant women to use the Internet to access health information about pregnancy and childbirth. METHODS This study was carried out on a sample of 384 pregnant women. Data were collected using a valid and reliable questionnaire. The first section of this questionnaire collected demographic characteristics of the participants. The second part of the questionnaire contains 27 questions covering the following components: infrastructure readiness (6 questions); affordability readiness (3 questions); and skill readiness (12 questions). Data were analyzed with SPSS 19.0 using descriptive statistics, Chi-square test, and T-test. RESULTS This study was carried out on a sample of 384 pregnant women. CONCLUSIONS The use of the Internet by pregnant women depends on factors such as infrastructure, affordability, and skills readiness. This study showed that speed and the quality of the Internet, hardware and software availability, affordability of the Internet, and access to the Internet training were factors in measuring E-health readiness assessment. SUMMARYWhile conservation and development projects focusing on non-timber forest products (NTFPs) remain popular approaches to address complex issues of livelihood improvement and conservation, governance of NTFPs is still poorly understood. In the Atlantic Forest biodiversity hotspot of Brazil, non-governmental organizations, researchers and community leaders are encouraging the commercialization of fruit pulp-based products from the endangered palm Euterpe edulis, known as juçara, to replace income from illegal heart of palm extraction. In order to assess the governance of development of juçara pulp as an NTFP and the potential to increase conservation of juçara through management on smallholder properties, we conducted qualitative research in São Paulo State from October 2012 to October 2013. Major challenges include policy barriers, difficulties integrating production and commercialization, problematic assumptions about poverty alleviation and the inability of the most disadvantaged members of communities to benefit. These governance challenges are a function of poor access, or the ‘bundle of powers’ that enables the ability to benefit. However, engagement with juçara fruit pulp production links farmers and former poachers with sustainable agricultural concepts and with networks, changing their perceptions of conservation and enhancing ability to benefit from improved policy.

Whereas, to know the effect of all, the independent variable and dependent variable use the logistic binary regressive analysis with SPSS Program version 12. The result of the research shows that the higher education probably reaches 3.4 times, the management of DM is much better than that of the lower education (OR = 3.369, CI = 0.728 – 15. 604), and the other factors that improve the management of the diet in family are jobs, incomes and ages. As farmers are exposed to risk and uncertainty, they are unable to make optimal choices. The main purpose of this paper was to present how farmers perceive risk in agriculture. To meet the objective defined above, this paper relied on the results of a 2018 survey conducted with a sample of 137 legume farms across the country. The information was analyzed and described with the use of descriptive statistics methods. Also, the correlation between selected characteristics was assessed with the Pearson’s contingency coefficient (C) based on the chi-square test of independence. Most interviewees (71%) perceive the effects of risk as the possible emergence of losses or profits, while 29% associate risks with losses only. None of the interviewees declared the perception of risks purely as an opportunity to reap benefits. The respondents believe that agricultural businesses should be most wary of production risk (an average rating of 11.6) and market risk (8.1 to 9.0).
