Decision making skill is deemed to be a key feature of the nurse’s role in today’s health care organizations. Thus, educators should use innovative teaching strategies that grow students’ competence in problem-solving and decision making skills like problem-based learning (PBL). The aim of this study is to determine the effect of problem-based learning on nursing students' decision making skills and styles. A quasi-experimental research design was utilized. The sample consisted of 84 students from the fourth year in the Faculty of Nursing, Minia University. Two tools were used: Nursing Students’ Decision Making Skills Scale and Nursing Students’ Decision Making Style. This study revealed that the mean scores of decision making skills in the study group students increased before and after applying PBL (before: 71 + 8.5, after: 116.3 + 10.4) with a statistical significant difference (p = .001). There was no statistical significant differences between the study and control groups (p = 1.000) before intervention. The most dominant decision-making style among the study and control groups in relation to before and after applying PBL was a behavioral decision style with no statistical significant differences. This study concluded that using PBL has a curial role in developing and improving nursing students' decision making skills; however, it has no effect on decision-making style.

The main purpose of this study was to examine the effect ofcommunicative approach on creative writing among 9th graders. It wasfound from the literature that different aspects of creative writing can bedeveloped through communicative approach. The pretest posttestnonequivalent control group design, that is, Quasi Experimental designwas used. To carry out this investigation six classes from two schools, one public and one private, were selected to collect data for the purpose.206 students were conveniently selected for experimentation. There were33 girls and 173 boys in all the experimental and control groups. Fourtasks of the creative writing were carefully chosen from literature andwere pilot tested at a smaller group of students. After pilot testing, minorchanges were incorporated. The pre-test was administered to control andexperimental groups. Communicative lessons were delivered in theexperimental classrooms only. The same pre-test was used as the posttestas well. The creative compositions were evaluated in the light ofscoring rubrics. They were rechecked by relevant class instructors forinter-rater reliability. The data were analyzed using t-statistics and thesoftware SPSS. Results of the research showed that communicativeapproach had a noteworthy influence on the increase of creative writingskills among secondary level learners. The outcomes of the research areworthwhile for teachers, curriculum specialists, syllabi designers andpolicy makers. In addition, communicative approach is recommended forteaching of writing any genre in English.

The aim of this study was to determine the effectiveness of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) method to cultivate students’ literacy. By using the marquee model, the students can focus on writing which would be the topic of problems that would be discussed through the PBL method. The method used a quasi experimental design. The result of this research showed that PBL method through Marquee media was effective to improve the literacy culture of students at Universitas Hasyim Asy’ari (UNHASY) Tebuireng Jombang. The literacy culture before using PBL method through Marquee was 75% of children rarely do literacy activities. After using PBL method through Marquee was 90% children often do literacy activities. Hence, it can be concluded that the problem basic learning (PBL) method through marquee can improve the students’ literacy culture of Indonesian language and literature education, mathematics education. Because there was an increase from 75% to 90% of students who like to read, this indicates that PBL through marquee was effective in improving literacy culture. Abstract This study attempts to see the effect of Think, Talk, and Write strategy on the students’ narrative writing competence. Considering the importance of the use of teaching media, this study tries to integrate Stick Figure as a teaching media in Think, Talk, and Write Strategy. A quasi experimental study was conducted to see the improvement of the students’ narrative writing competence. It involved 42 students who were selected on the basis of convenience sampling and assigned into two groups; experimental and control groups. The statistical analyses of paired sample t-test in experimental group showed that there was significant improvement on the students’ writing competence before (M=5.77, SD= 2.342) and after (M= 11.79, SD= 2.342), t(21)=12.059, p<0.05.Moreover, the result of independent t-test between experimental and control groups showed a significant difference. It can be seen that the mean differences was 3.79545 and the significance value is lower than 0.05, 0.000<0.05.

The purposes of this research were to know: the difference of improvement in self-regulated learning of students that given problem-based learning with students that given  direct learning. The type of this research is a quasi-experimental research by taking samples from the existing population. The variable of this research consist of independent variable that is problem based learning model while the dependent variable isself regulated learning of student. The population of this research is all students of SMP Swasta Ar-rahman Percut and the sample of this research is grade eight with taken sample two classes (experiment and control)  with total 60 students. The instrument of this research were: scale of self-regulated learning. Data that have been collected then analyzed and performed hypothesis testing by using T-test. Based of the results analysis, it showed that: improvment  of the students’ self-regulated learning that given problem-based learning was higher than the students’ ability that given direct learning His then, suggested that problem-based learning be used as an alternative for mathematic teacher to improved students’ ability in mathematical critical thinking and self-regulated learning.

ABSTRACTThis study was initiated by the students’ low learning outcomes on Chemistry subject and the teachers’ preference in using lecture method in teaching learning process. This study aimed at 1) finding out the differences of students’ learning outcomes between the use of flash media-assisted practical method and lecture method on hydrocarbon class at grade XI MIA of SMA Muhammadiyah I Pontianak. Using quasi experimental design and Control Group Posttes Design, this study employed the students of grade XI MIA 2 as the samples of experiment group, andthe students of grade XI MIA 2 as the samples of control group. The data collection techniques used were measurement and observation. While the instruments employed were observation sheet and essay. TheU-Mann Whitneytest revealed that the post test score of 0,0140< 0,05 Ho was rejected, while the Ha one was accepted. It means that there was correlation of students’ learning outcomes between the experiment and the control groups. In addition, the effect size result was 1,086 > 0,8 and considered high which indicated the positive effect of flash media-assisted practical method in enhancing students’ learning achievement. Keywords: flash, learning outcomes, hydrocarbon, practical method
