A safety sign is a sign of equipment to provide protection for workers or visitors in the workplace. American National Standards Institute Z535 (ANSI Z535) is used as a basic guideline for installing safety signs in the workplace because it is more communicative by using global symbols to overcome language barriers. Occupational Safety Division of Manpower and Transmigration Departement, East Java Province (UPT Keselamatan Kerja Surabaya) is a workplace that has a risk of occupational accidents. The preliminary surveys in the area of the 3rd floor of the Division of Occupational Safety (UPT Keselamatan Kerja) Surabaya revealed that there were many sites with insufficient safety signboards. Many of the installed safety signs did not comply with ANZI Z535 standards. This study aimed to evaluate the installation of safety signs compared to the ANZI Z535 standard on the 3rd floor of UPT K2 Surabaya. This was an observational study examining the installation of safety signs. The data were obtained using the ANSI Z535 safety sign checklist. We found 2 out of 5 types of safety signs were in accordance with ANSI safety sign standards with a comparison percentage of more than 66%, such as the notice sign (67.85%) and safety condition sign (75%). Three other types of safety signs were in the unfavorable category with a percentage of less than 66%, such as danger sign (65.63%), warning sign (50%), and caution sign (46.88%). Some sites required additional safety signs, such as warning signs (at distillation site), caution signs (oven, stairs), notice signs (cylinder storage, elevator, chemical warehouse), and safety condition signs (stair, eyewash).

Abstract Objective To evaluate awareness and response to stroke among the general public. Materials and Methods In this prospective, observational study, self-reported stroke awareness questionnaire was administered in 2000 consecutive participants who visited outpatient clinic of a tertiary care hospital. For data analysis, comparison included for awareness of stroke and response in case of stroke. Results The average age of the study participants was 39.64 ± 15.55 (17–85), with 651(32.6%) women. Among the respondents, 786(39.3%) participants mentioned stroke as blood clot in the brain; 268(13.4%) stated it as brain hemorrhage. Awareness of stroke was higher in people in cities (71.0 vs. 8.5%; p < 0.001) and graduates (75.3 vs. 60.9%; p < 0.001) or knew a family member or friend who had stroke (42.7 vs. 30.4%; p < 0.001). Most commonly recognized risk factors included stress (1,152; 57.6%) and hypertension (1,148; 57.4%). Most identified warning sign was weakness of one side of body (807; 40.4%) and speech impairment (658; 32.9%). Participants who were aware of stroke knew a greater number of risk factors (3.75 ± 2.88 vs. 2.45 ± 2.66; p < 0.001) and warning signs (2.85 ± 2.25 vs. 1.49 ± 1.41; p <0.001). Among 1,138 participants who were aware of stroke, 166 (14.6%) participants knew one correct response in case of a stroke, either call a doctor (49.3 vs. 35.0%; p <0.001) or call an ambulance (41.1 vs. 34.9%; p = 0.055). Participants who knew one correct response to stroke had at least a family member/friend who had stroke (44.1 vs. 34.3%; p < 0.022). Conclusion We report that among 56.9% of the participants who were aware of stroke most could not name more than four risk factors or three warning signs of stroke. Only 14.6% of those aware of stroke knew appropriate response to stroke.

Safety sign is the equipment contained in the work environment in order to protect and enhance the awereness of workers against potential dangers which are occur in the work environment. This research was conducted to find out the suitability of applying the safety sign on work environment based on ANSI Z535 standard. This Research is observational with cross sectional design. Data collection was done by direct observation using ANSI Z535 safety sign checklist within a certain time. There are 5 types of safety sign based on the ANSI Z535standard researched. They are danger sign, warning sign, sign, sign the notice caution and safety condition sign. Field observation was retrieved results suitability against ANSI Z535 standard with highest suitability figures on danger sign fulfill 8 of 16 items (50%), warning sign fulfill 6 out of 16 items (37.5%), caution sign fulfill 9 out of 16 items (56.25%), notice the sign fulfill 9 dari14 items (68.28%), and safety condition sign fulfill the entire item (100%). Conclusions on the research was application of a danger sign, warning sign, sign, and caution notice sign have not been suit with ANSI standard Z535. While the safety condition sign has been suit. HSSE management should have been did a monitoring, evaluation and improvement against the safety sign that damaged and did not suitable with the standards in International and Domestic Docks PT. It is a challenge to prevent an occupational accident in any industrial activities. The aim of this study is to improve the safety and reduce the risk of occupational accidents at shipyard through developing a risk assessment. This paper describes the concept and methodology of risk assessment for occupational safety and its application. The methodology introduces an effective and useful assessment procedure to construct the database based on the past occupational accidents occurred at shipyards. Quantitative methodology is developed to understand the unsafe working conditions and environment at the shipyard by the convenient handheld to collect the data with Information Technology. Some examples of effective hazard countermeasures are suggested and a feasibility study is conducted to improve a walking environment at shipyards.

So in a company it is necessary to implement occupational safety and health in order to reduce and prevent occupational diseases and accidents. In carrying out occupational safety and health at PT Pantja Simpati, PT Pantja Simpati has several problems that can cause illness and work accidents such as unavailability of personal protective equipment, non-functioning air vents, employees smoking in the production room, employees drinking in the production section. part. areas, fire fighting equipment lacks lighting, damaged ceilings or roofs, untidy cables, and slippery production floors. Ways to avoid work accidents such as providing PPE and APAR, repairing damaged equipment, and taking firm action against workers. Melting ice is one of the concerns of world climate scientists and planners. It is the gradual change of ice in the liquid form caused by increase in atmospheric temperature. Global Warming is the increase in atmospheric temperature caused by greenhouse effects (C02, CH4, N20 and CFCs). Increase in temperature of atmosphere by 1oC that has been occurred since 1860 AD (IPCC, 1996). Scientists predicted that the Earth would warm by 1.4 to 5.8oC by 2100. In case of Nepal, increase of temperature was recorded 0.06oC per year (DHM). Sea level rise causes by melting ice is recent warning sign. The Times Center, 2007 estimated sea level rise would be 51 -140 cm by 2100 AD. It affects wide variety of ecosystem, water resources, agriculture, life and livelihoods of people in the world. However, its impact is largely unpredictable and uncertainty. There were series of glacial outburst in Nepal since 1964, destroying ecosystem of surrounding region caused by global warming. Therefore, IPCC member's countries with United State of America (USA) must act quickly to reduce greenhouse gasses to overcome threat of melting ice. Background: Early treatment is associated with better clinical outcomes in stroke, but women must recognize the warning signs of a stroke to reduce delays in treatment. The purpose of this study was to evaluate contemporary knowledge of stroke warning signs and intent to call 9-1-1 first if warning signs occur, among a nationally representative sample of women, overall and by race/ethnic group. Methods: A study of cardiovascular disease awareness and knowledge was conducted by the American Heart Association in 2012 among English speaking US women > 25 years identified through random digit dialing (N=1,205; 54% white, 17% black, 17% Hispanic, 12% other). Demographic data, including race/ethnic group, were evaluated using standardized categorical questions. Knowledge about warning signs of stroke, and what to do first if experiencing signs of a stroke, was assessed by standardized unaided questions. Data were weighted to reflect the US population of women based on the US Census Bureau’s March 2011 Current Population Survey, overall and within ethnic strata. Results: In 2012, half of women surveyed (51%) identified sudden weakness/numbness of face/limb on one side as a stroke warning sign; this did not vary by race/ethnic group. Loss of/trouble talking/understanding speech was identified by 44% of women, and more frequently among white versus Hispanic women (48% vs. 36%; p<.05). Fewer than one in four women identified sudden severe headache (23%), unexplained dizziness (20%), or sudden dizziness/loss of vision (18%) as warning signs, and one in five (20%) did not know one stroke warning sign; these results did not vary by race/ethnicity. The majority of women said that they would call 9-1-1 first if they thought they were experiencing signs of a stroke (84%), and this did not vary among black (86%), Hispanic (79%), or white/other (85%) women. Conclusions: Knowledge of stroke warning signs was low among a nationally representative sample of women, especially among Hispanics. In contrast, knowledge to call 9-1-1 when experiencing signs of stroke was high. These data suggest effort to improve recognition of the warning signs of stroke has potential to reduce treatment delay and improve outcomes among women.

This chapter examines how the mental illness model of suicide has led us to place more faith than may be warranted in concepts such as suicide “warning signs” and suicide-risk screening tools. These concepts are notoriously unreliable indicators of emerging suicidal behaviors because they do not sufficiently reflect the inherently dynamic and ever-changing nature of suicide risk. Any given warning sign for suicide will be wrong much, much more often than it will be right. Even when multiple warning signs are experienced or expressed by an individual, this problem persists. One factor limiting the accuracy of suicide-risk screening is that thoughts about death and suicide fluctuate over time. Thus, we should move away from assuming that we must know who will and who will not attempt suicide to prevent these behaviors from occurring.

The article classifies Polish voivodeships into appropriate groups with a similar level of occupational safety in the construction industry. The basis for the adopted classification was statistical data published by the Central Statistical Office regarding population, employment in the construction industry, the value of construction production and the number of occupational accidents. The conducted research allowed a logical and correct, in terms of content, division of the Polish territory to be made, taking into account the aspect of occupational safety in the construction industry. Statistica software and cluster analysis were used to solve the problem.

Abstract Background Cardiac involvement in dengue fever is underdiagnosed due to low index of suspicion and overlapping clinical manifestations of capillary leak associated with dengue. The frequency of subclinical dengue myocarditis and its relative contribution to the hemodynamic instability in severe dengue needs to be explored. We studied the prevalence of myocarditis and clinical outcomes among admitted patients with dengue. Methods A prospective observational study was carried out in admitted patients with age between 18 and 65 years having confirmed dengue (NS1/IgM ELISA). Patients with electrolyte abnormalities or on medications affecting heat rhythm/ rate, pre-existing heart disease were excluded. The baseline demographic, clinical and laboratory parameters were collected. A baseline ECG was done and repeated every second day. Trop-I and NT-proBNP were done at baseline and repeated only if elevated at baseline or there were ECG changes. The cardiac enzymes were measured using enzyme-linked fluorescent assay (VIDAS, bioMérieux, France). Patients with elevated enzymes underwent 2-dimensional echocardiography. Diagnosis of myocarditis was as per ESC 2013 criteria. Fluid management was as per WHO guidelines (2009). Results A total of 183 patients were recruited with median age of 29 years (IQR 21, 37) and 31% were females. Dengue with warning signs was present in 80 (44%) and severe dengue in 45 (25%) patients. Cardiac enzymes were elevated in 27 (15%) patients (cTnI in 25, NT-proBNP in 22). Among these 27 patients, 11 [6% (2.6–9.4, 95% CI)] had echo evidence and diagnosed as having myocarditis according to ESC 2013 criteria (Figure 1). Clinical features of fluid overload were more common in myocarditis group [8 (73%) vs 4 (2%), P = Overall, 5 (2.7%) patients expired, all of them had myocarditis (5/11 = 45%). These patients had severe dengue, 2 patients developed hospital-acquired pneumonia and 1 had malaria co-infection. Among patients with raised enzymes and normal echo (n = 16), 3 patients developed clinical signs of fluid overload compared with only 1 out of 156 patients without raised enzymes (P &lt; 0.01). Conclusion Myocarditis in admitted patients with dengue is not uncommon [6% (2.6–9.4, 95% CI)] and may lead to a complicated disease course. Disclosures All authors: No reported disclosures.
