Introduction: The World Health Organisation [WHO] recommended that breathing clean air reduces the risk of diseases such as Asthma and Lung cancer. Inhaling low quality of air causes several health problems such as headaches, nausea and tiredness. The main aim of this study is to create awareness among parents about the effect of air pollution on children. Materials and Methods: This is a cross sectional survey study. The standard questionnaire was prepared and distributed as Google forms to nearly 100-120 parents. The population was randomly selected. A self-administered structured questionnaire was prepared based on Knowledge attitude and awareness on effects of air pollution on children among parents. It was circulated to participants through an online platform (google forms). The statistics were done using SPSS software, chi square test was used to check the association and P value of 0.05% was said to be statistically significant. Results: 78.53% of the populations were aware that air pollution affects cognitive ability. 50.98% of the population responded that exposure of polluted air to pregnant female’s cause’s premature birth. 45.28% of females were aware that air pollution affects neutron development in the brain. As a result of this study most of the parents were aware about air pollution and its effects on their children. Conclusion: In this study females were slightly more aware about air pollution than males. If this awareness persists among all the people in the society many harmful effects such as air pollution and other related problems can be solved.

Increasing volume in the vehicle lane it will increase the concentration of SO2, NO2, TSP, and Dust on the roadside both outdoor and indoor. The Police Officer of the Street Officers has a high level of exposure to motor vehicle gas emissions because they are people who throughout their work are always on the highway, so they will often be exposed and can interfere with health, especially the health of the respiratory system. The research aims to model air pollution exposure to lung function in traffic police. This study uses a cross sectional risk analysis design to estimate non cancer hazard index (HI) health risk by dividing the intake (I) value with References Concentration (RfC) and making a risk management model. Broadly speaking, the research was carried out in 4 important stages, namely, the first stage of the initial survey and field observations on 100 traffic police in Palembang City selected proportionally random sampling for the initial risk assessment data collection, the second stage Spirometry measurements and selected air sample data collection (NO2, SO2, TSP, Dust), and the third stage of laboratory analysis and spirogram reading, and the fourth stage Modeling of risk factors Exposure to air pollution to lung function capacity in Traffic Police. The average concentration of pollutants in the air = NO2: 0.478 mg / m3; SO2: 0.856 mg / m3; TSP: 7.810 mg / m3; PM10: 3,591 mg / m3. Lung capacity of traffic police, average FEV1: 2.81 L and FVC: 3.63 L. Realtime exposure assessment NO2: 0.055; SO2: 0.923; TSP: 2,943 and PM10: 4,8. The model of exposure to air pollution is needed to control the health effects of NO2, SO2, TSP and PM10. Control modifies the standard or quality standard, where the HI value or Hazard Index that exceeds 1 can be controlled by controlling the intake value (I) inhalation of NO2, SO2, TSP and PM10

AbstractWaste is one of factors causing air pollution in Palembang City. Volume of waste that should be processed increases every day, while condition of waste management service is still 70% of the total volume. The waste processing is managed by using open dumping system, which affects on the increase of air pollution. One of gases that exist as effect of the process of organic compound decomposition of anaerobic bacteria from garbage is sulfide hydrogen (H2S) pollutant which can promote health disorders, especially respiratory system. This study aimed to analyze correlation between characteristics (age, sex, nutritional status, smoking, and living distance) and ambient air H2S concentration risk quotient to lung capacity of people around landfill area. This study used cross-sectional design with the sample of 78 people around landfill area. Data analysis used double logistic regression. Results showed that nutritional status (p value = 0.222, OR = 12.085) and RQ (p value = 0.016; OR = 7.547) significantly related to lung vital capacity of people around landfill area. People around landfill area having worse nutrition and lower RQ than the median were potential to have lung vital capacity disorder. The dominant variable significantly influencing to lung vital capacity of people living around Sukawinatan Landfill is nutritional status.

Garbage is one source of air pollution. Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S) is a result of the decomposition of garbage that has an odor like rotten eggs, that will cause odor in the surrounding area. The respiratory system is the most sensitive organ for H2S in the air, so if exposed to this gas continuously can cause respiratory complaints in humans. The purpose of this study was to analyze the levels of H2S in the Super Depo Sutorejo and respiratory complaints on officers. This study used an observational study with cross-sectional approach. The samples were 21 people. Data were analyzed decriptively. H2S measurements held at two spot in the morning and afternoon. The results showed H2S levels between 0.6 μg/m3 -1,4 μg/m3. The result was still below the quality standard East Java Governor Regulation Number 10 of 2009 which is 42 μg/m3 or 2 ppm. 16 people (76.2%) had experienced respiratory complaints. Perceived respiratory complaints included cough (57.1%), shortness of breath (23.8%) and itchy throat (52.4%). The conclusion of this study was H2S levels in Super Depo Sutorejo still below the quality standard established and the most respiratory complaints suffered by officer was cough.

Abstract : Helminthiasis is still one of the social health problems in Indonesia. According to former research, the prevalence of helminthiasis was still high (60-70%). Garbage collectors at garbage dumps belong to a group, which has a high risk of getting this disease. People’s behavior is a major factor to determine their health status, especially in relation to helminthiasis. People’s behavior consists of three domains: knowledge, attitude, and action. The aim of this study is to analyze the correlation between the behavior (knowledge, attitude, and action) of garbage collectors and the prevalence of helminthiasis at Sumompo garbage dump Manado City. The research method is a descriptive analysis with a cross sectional study approach. Seventy two respondents were used in a purposive method. The data were collected by using questionaires, and then tabulated and analyzed by using the Chi Square test. The result of this study showed that people’s knowledge and attitudes have correlations with helminthiasis, but people’s actions have no correlation with helminthiasis among the collectors at the Sumompo garbage dump Manado City. This result indicated that people’s behavior was a major factor in determining the prevalence of helminthiasis. While facing the high prevalence of helminthiasis at the Sumompo garbage dump, we have to improve the people’s behaviour, especially the domain of action, with the hope that we can increase the health status of the people in that area. Keywords: helminthiasis, behavior, garbage collector.

As much as 69% percent of waste in Indonesia ended up in the landfill and the problems continue to raise as it is managed by controlled landfill and open dumping systems. One of them was the emission of NH3 and H2S gases resulting from the decomposition of organic waste in the landfill which is irritant and dangerous if inhaled by the surrounding community at a certain level. This research was intended to analyze the correlation or relationship between the levels of NH3, H2S, and the respondent characteristics (gender, age, smoking habits, and history of disease) with the respiratory disorders sufferred by the community around Pakusari landfill. This research was an analytic observational study with quantitative approach. On its implementation, a cross sectional design was used. There were  642research population living 0-500 meters away from  Pakusari landfill. The research samples consisted of the samples of respondentas many as 84 people and the air consisting of NH3, H2S, temperature, humidity, wind speed, and wind direction. The results showed that among 4 factor variables of individual characteristic, the age variable and the history of the disease variable had a significant relationship to the respiratory disorder variable (p-value = 0.060) and (p-value 0.036) and there was no relationship between the level variable of NH3 and H2S with variable respiratory disorders. Keyword: Ammonia, Hydrogen Sulphide, Respiratory Disorders, Communities

The aim of this study was to describe the correlation between the meteorological and air pollution parameters with the temporal pattern of presentation of recent onset allergic eye disease (AED). This cross-sectional hospital-based study included new patients (≤21 years of age) presenting between January 2016 and August 2018 from the district of Hyderabad with a clinical diagnosis of AED and an acute exacerbation of recent onset of symptoms of less than 3 months duration. Correlation analysis was performed with the local environmental rainfall, temperature, humidity, windspeed, and air pollution. Of the 25,354 new patients hailing from the district of Hyderabad, 2494 (9.84%) patients were diagnosed with AED, of which 1062 (4.19%) patients had recent onset of symptoms. The mean monthly prevalence in this cohort was 4.13%, and the month of May (6.09%) showed the highest levels. The environmental parameters of humidity (r2 = 0.83/p = < 0.0001) and rainfall (r2 = 0.41/p = 0.0232) showed significant negative correlation, while temperature (r2 = 0.43/p = 0.0206) and ground-level ozone (r2 = 0.41/p = 0.0005) showed significant positive correlation with the temporal pattern of AED in the population. An increase in rainfall and humidity was associated with a lower prevalence, and an increase of temperature and ground-level ozone was associated with a higher prevalence of AED cases during the year among children and adolescents.
