Legal Clinical Education is experiencing a great development in the Spanish and the Italian university context. Nevertheless, it comes with new challenges that professors have not faced until now: students working in the field with people in situations of vulnerability or in complex realities. Given that one of the major goals of CLE is the preparation not only of professionals for the practice of law, but also people concerned about social justice and social diversity, this piece of research looks into the significance of working with students about the key role that empathy plays in the development of their relation with the people they assist. Moreover, we will suggest some activities to be introduced in the clinical training plan with this purpose, and lastly, we will construct some final thoughts about this research and the feedback we obtain from our clinical colleagues.

The people of West Kalimantan Province have a great interest in fashion. This can be seen from the many facilities available to meet the needs of fashion and the emergence of young designers in the fashion sector, especially in Pontianak City. This of course must be balanced with education about the basics of fashion design knowledge and techniques in order to produce higher quality designers, and supported by marketing and promotion facilities to develop the creativity of fashion actors. The Fashion Center is an alternative to making all fashion activities carried out in one location, related to commercial activities, promotion, education and production to accommodate a place for fashion actors to work as well as interesting creations for visitors, especially in the Pontianak City area. This chapter focuses on famous people. It shows that American culture does not take for granted the role of merit in achievement, even in the cases of successful public figures. The chapter asserts that even in instances of extreme achievement — the paragons, the winners, the people whose merit should be most obvious and who have long been understood as symbols of meritocracy — American culture tends to debate or evaluate the role of merit in success rather than accept it. It explores how we argue about whether people like Carly Fiorina deserve to be where they are and ask what our uncertainty about the Big Shots means for the rest of us. The chapter also reveals that American stories do not take meritocracy for granted but rather ask in individual cases whether a person, even an extremely successful person, ended up where he or she deserves to be. It emphasizes that American considerations of star athletes are shot through with uncertainty about deservedness.

Demosthenes (b. 384–d. 322 bce) was one of the leading public figures in Athens in the third quarter of the 4th century—a statesman who led the Athenians in their ultimately unsuccessful struggle against Philip of Macedon, as well as the greatest of ancient Greek orators. Judgments of his public career have ranged from declaring him the heroic defender of Greek freedom to a failed strategist and manipulator of the people. Much less controversial is the judgment, common since Antiquity, of his preeminence as an orator. All these subjects and more are treated in Gunther Martin’s extremely useful 2019 book, The Oxford Handbook of Demosthenes.

Abstract How did Romans perceive the changing relationships among leaders, the people, and the public sphere as their commonwealth (res publica) fell under the control of an emperor? This paper examines Ovid’s uses of the Latin adjective publicus, ‘public, common, open’, to explore strands of implicitly ‘republican’ political thought behind his poetic corpus. Ovid first celebrates Augustus’ material benefactions as common goods for private consumption; then dramatises the tragic consequences of arbitrary domination; and finally, from exile, treats the emperor himself as a public property, subject to his people’s spectatorship and sovereignty of judgment. A final section draws on Ovid’s thinking on privacy, publicity, and information access to explore themes related to America’s ‘imperial presidency’, from the Founders’ emphasis on a free press to the recent interplay of secrecy, celebrity, and ‘sunshine’ laws.
