The focus of this paper is a discussion of the concept of freedom according to Jean-Jacques Rousseau, one of the philosophers of the Enlightenment. Rousseau's concept of freedom is always interesting to discuss in the context of a country that applies democracy as its political system, one of which is Indonesia. In discussing the concept of Rousseau's freedom, it is relevant to Indonesia's current democracy, which is in a state of flawed democracy according to the research results of The Economist Intelligence Unit in 2020. The goal to be achieved is to find new ideas as a solution to improve the quality of Indonesian democracy for the better. The method used in this paper is a qualitative method in the form of literature review. The findings in this paper is that the quality of freedom in Indonesian democracy is still very low, especially in the fields of religion and education. The task to fight for this freedom is first of all in the hands of the leaders of the nation and state.

This study discusses the dynamics of Indonesian student movement in the New Order era between 1966 until 1998. It also analyses the responses of the authority to their movement and its impact. This research uses the qualitative method of literature review and interviews where the arguments are presented in descriptive analysis. Based on Antonio Gramsci’s concept of hegemony, this study has uncovered the hegemonic means utilized by the authority to undermine student movement. The description of how this social formation was defragmented, justified and then integrated into bureaucratic processes where their existence was then consented as a subordinated class. In reality, the student movement under the New Order government was closely related to the situation of socio-politics and character of the regime. Nevertheless, the Asian economic crisis jolted the revival of the student movement to its initial vibrant state which brought down Suharto’s regime in 1998. This study has proven that hegemonic process also has a shelf-life as the masses will eventually see through the regime’s political construction. This eventuality was due to external and internal factors such as development of information technology, the rise of cyber-power, international politics and the emergence of new ideas.

The unitary state of the republic of Indonesia often experiences conflicts in the name of religion and even takes the streets to voice what the state decides to carry out by its citizens. It is felt that what the state has decided deviates from religious regulations, so that religious groups have staged demonstrations to express the aspirations of these religious beliefs. The unitary state of the republic of Indonesia can be shaken when it finds such a case, even if we read in the Middle East countries where wars can occur. If this cannot be strengthened, then Indonesia is also a country with great potential in this direction. The author wants to strengthen the position of the unitary republic of Indonesia with state facilities in the form of a container that has a very important role, namely the forum for inter-religious harmony. The interfaith community harmony forum must be at the forefront in maintaining the potential for conflicts that threaten the solidity of the unitary state of the Republic of Indonesia, not a vessel that is just a formality. This journal uses a qualitative method by using literature review from books and journals, of course, contains proven research results that show that the forum for religious harmony takes part in building regional development participation to strengthen the unitary state of the Republic of Indonesia. The results show that 4 research evidence has shown that community harmony forums have an important role in building regional participation, namely by solving problems faced by the community from various kinds of problems which are then discussed in the religious context. This research aimed to investigate the relevance between the literature reviews and the research questions of the theses written by the students who graduated in 2019 from seven study programs in STKIP PGRI Sumatera Barat. The research design was qualitative research which focused on describing, explaining, and exploring the students’ thesis writings, whether the literature reviews described were relevant to their research questions. Purposive sampling was the technique used to select the data that consisted of 13 students’ theses. This research focused on those 13 theses because they were written in a qualitative method, which showed the relevance between research questions and the literature review. Here, content analysis was used to analyze the data to show whether the literature review of each thesis discusses the relevant theories to answer the research questions. The result showed that among 13 students’ theses, 6 theses were relevant, and 7 were irrelevant. It means that more students had written with irrelevant theories. It can be suggested to the thesis advisors to give more attention to the quality of students’ theses because the irrelevance can interfere with the qualities of their theses.

The factor with the most influence is the quality of professors and of their lectures and the second most important factor is the learning content. These two factors come before all of the others in the matter of influencing the educational institutions image. Our basic recommendation is to build on these factors starting with the most important ones first.
