Hedychium Spicatum is a rhizomatous perennial plant of various ethnomedicinal significance, which belongs to Zingiberaceae family.In the present study, H.Spicatum extracts were investigated for the presence of major phytochemical compounds. The dried and powdered rhizomes were extracted employing Soxhlet extraction with selective solvents of varying polarities viz water, ethanol, petroleum ether and diethyl ether. Qualitative phytochemical analysis of each of these extracts of H.Spicatum suggested the existence of flavonoids, phenolic compounds, carotenoids, alkaloids, reducing sugars (carbohydrate), proteins, steroids, saponins and oils.  Greater extent of unsaturation was observed in diethyl ether and petroleum ether extracts. These extracts were also examined for their physico-chemical properties. All of the studied extracts were found to be optically active, specifically dextro rotatory. The phytochemicals present in the rhizomes suggest potential ethnomedicinal application of the species in the treatment, control and management of diseases and for new drug discovery.

The herb <em>Acalypha indica </em>which belongs to Euphorbiaceae family has multiple medicinal properties which include anti-oxidant, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-inflammatory, antiulcer, anti-helmintic, anti-cancerous, anti-venom, and neuro-protective activity. The present study was designed to evaluate the phytochemical, antimicrobial and anti-oxidant activity of <em>Acalypha indica </em>leaves extracts in different solvent extractions like methanol, hexane, ethyl acetate and petroleum ether. Fresh leaves of the plant were collected and shade dried. Dried leaves were milled to obtain powder. Powder was subjected to soxhlet extraction using solvents and extracts were successively obtained. Phytochemical analysis was conducted following standard methods.  Phytochemical analysis showed the presence of Alkaloids, Phenols, Saponins, Flavanoids and Amino acids. Leaf extract of methonal have shown the highest anti-oxidation capacity than hexane, ethyl acetate and petroleum ether. Anti-microbial activity has been performed on microbes like <em>Bacillus sps</em>, <em>E.coli,</em> <em>Psuedomonas sps</em> and <em>Streptococcus sps.</em> A highest value of zone of inhibition was found in methanol extract against <em>E.coli.</em> These results provide evidence that <em>Acalypha indica </em>leaf extract possesses vital phytochemicals, antimicrobial and antioxidant properties. Hence this plant can be studied further for drug analysis for finding potent medicines for diseases.

Fruit seeds contain several phytochemical compounds which have been reported to show antiviral, anti-allergic, anti-inflammatory, anti tumor and antioxidant activities. Due to the varied chemical properties of these seeds, different solvents are used in the extraction. Therefore, this research was aimed at evaluating the effect of extracting solvents on the yield, phytochemical compounds and selected chemical properties of fermented pawpaw (Carica papaya) seed. Extracts from fermented T-solo variety of pawpaw seeds were obtained using petroleum ether, n-hexane and hot aqueous solvents using standard method. Analysis was carried out to determine some qualitative and quantitative phyto-chemical and some selected chemical composition (Peroxide Value PV and Thiobarbituric Acid Value TBA. Extracts’ yield were 26.00, 23.30 and 19.51% for petroleum ether, n-hexane and hot aqueous solvent, respectively. The result of quantitative analysis shows that all the phytochemicals were more abundant in petroleum ether extract. The PV and TBA of n-hexane, petroleum ether and hot water extract were 5.32, 4.52, 0.00 meq/kg and 0.87, 0.16, 0.09 μg/kg respectively. The PV and TBA obtained for petroleum ether extract were relatively low and         this implied that the extract will undergo little or no autoxidation or oxidative deterioration when used.

Abstract- Traditional knowledge of medicinal plants is showing important and significant values to society. Bombaxceiba is an important medicinal plant of tropical and subtropical India. Its medicinal usage has been reported in the traditional systems of medicine such as Ayurveda, Siddha and Unani. The present study includes the detailed exploration of phytochemical properties of various extracts of Bombaxceiba in an attempt to provide a direction for further research. Flowers of Bombaxceiba were air-dried and its coarsely powdered samples were subjected to Soxhlet extraction using diverse solvents (petroleum ether, chloroform , ethanol, ethyl acetate and distilled water)). Freshly prepared extracts were exposed to standard phytochemical analysis for qualitative estimation of phytoconsituents. Phytochemical analysis r e v e a l e d t h e p r e s e n c e o f s e v e r a l phytochemicals viz., alkaloids, flavonoids, steroids, phenol, tannins, steroid, terpenoids and glycocides. The methanolic extract displ ayed the pr e s enc e of highe st phytochemical compounds. It may be due to the higher solubility of active components in this solvent as compared to other solvents. The studies justify the use of Bombaxceiba in traditional medicines. The investigation further propose that the metabolites present in leaf tissue of Bombaxceiba can be potential source of novel natural antibacterial and antioxidant agents which may be of prospective application in food industry as an antioxidant. Introduction: The present article deals with study of phytochemical analysis of Withania somnifera Dunal roots. Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera Dunal - Solanaceae), The use of Ashwagandha (WS) is increasing due to a number of chemical constituents present in are found useful for promotion of health. Important bio-active constituents of Ashwagandha root powder are alkaloids, tannins and flavonoid and phenolic compound helps to promote the health benefits. Objective: Evolution of Physico- chemical and phyto chemical analysis of Ashwagandha (WS) powder. Materials and methods: The current investigation deals with extraction and detection or screening of active phytochemical compounds from different extracts of Withania somnifera root. Pharmacognostic studies, Physico-chemical studies, Preliminary phytochemical studies and HPTLC was carried out. Result and conclusion: The result drown were 2% foreign mater was determined. Loss on drying 1.6%, total ash obtained was 9%, acid insoluble ash was 1% and water soluble extractive was 12% and Alcohol soluble extractive was 13%. The phytochemical investigation revealed the presence of various phytochemical constituents such as alkaloids, flavonoids, carbohydrate, Steroids and Saponin Glycoside. HPTLC chromatograms of methanol extracts obtained from root of Withania somnifera revealed that higher quality of with a nolides was present. Hence the root of Withania somnifera was considered to mostly prefer for commercial preparation of drugs.

  Objective: The inhibitory properties of successive extracts from Dioscorea bulbifera (Dioscoreaceae) tubers have been evaluated for the presence of phytochemical constituents and antimicrobial efficacy against multidrug-resistant (MDR) clinical isolates was evaluated.Methods: The tuber of D. bulbifera was oven dried and extracted successively with n-hexane, chloroform, methanol, ethanol, and water. The antimicrobial potential of successive extracts against MDR isolates was studied by agar well-diffusion method. Qualitative phytochemical analysis was performed.Results: Qualitative phytochemical analysis demonstrated the presence of steroids, flavonoids, cardiac glycosides, saponins, and reducing sugars in almost all the extracts tested. Anthraquinones, phlobatanins, and tannins were not reported in any extracts tested. The in vitro antimicrobial activity of various solvents and water extracts of D. bulbifera was further investigated against ten MDR bacteria and three fungi, respectively. Aqueous and chloroform extracts were found to be more potent being capable of exerting significant inhibitory activities against the majority of the isolates such as Escherichia coli, Acinetobacter sp., Salmonella paratyphi, Klebsiella pneumoniae, and Candida albicans. The highest inhibitory activity was observed for K. pneumoniae with wide inhibition zone diameters (17 ± 0.15 mm), followed by E. coli 1(13 ± 0.11) mm, and Acinetobacter sp. (11 ± 0.12).Conclusion: Based on the present study, the extracts of D. bulbifera tubers have shown excellent activity against MDR microbial cultures tested. Further study is recommended for clinical evaluation, of the efficacy of crude extract in herbal medicine that can serve as a base for the development of novel potent drugs and phytomedicines.

Physical characteristics and localization of flavonoids and fatty oil in Silybum marianum (L.) Gaertn. fruit of different origin were examined. Physical characteristics of the fruit were determined by its origin, and samples cultivated on plantations were, concerning their colour, shine, shape and size, very similar to those they originated from. By examination of the fruit size, we wanted to give our contribution to the choice of adequate equipment for picking, cleaning and packing of the fruit. Using a suitable mechanical procedure, the separation of the fruit into its inner part (endosperm) and outer cover (testa) was carried out. The Soxhlet extraction was carried out using petroleum ether (40-70?C) and methanol, The silymarin content (calculated as silibinin) was spectrophotometrically determined in the whole fruit (1.94-2.45%) and its respective parts: endosperm (0.19-0.33%) and testa (4.75-6.01%). By evaporation of petroleum ether extracts under the lowered pressure we determined the oil content in the whole fruit (19.38-24.08%), endosperm (27.85-34.19%) and testa (2.45-4.34%). We also established that more than 94% of silymarin was located in the testa more than 88% of fatty oil was localized in the fruit endosperm. The obtained results indicated that it was better to use testa, than whole fruit, when extracting silymarin.

Background:  Leptadenia hastata is a leafy, climbing plant of whose root, leaf and bark is widely consumed in Northern Nigeria. Decoctions made from the leaf is locally used in treatment of diabetes as well as for numerous trado-medicinal processes. This study investigates the physico-chemical as well as phytochemical compounds present in the n-hexane extract of Leptadenia hastata. Method: Physical and chemical profile was determined using Smart Spectro test kits and a mass spectrometer to determine the presence of elements and physical properties. Results: Phytochemical analysis revealed the presence of steroids, triterpenoids and cardiac glycosides. The elemental analysis revealed that Na, SO4 and PO4 had the highest levels in the extract. Pb, Hg and Cd were not detected which showed that the plant extract was not toxic. Other elements (NO4, Mn, Fe, K, Ni, Si, Cn, Zn, Ca, Mg, NH4, Cr and F) were present in varying concentrations which may contribute to its nutritive composition. Conclusions: Various elements present in Leptadenia hastata may have either a direct or indirect role in the control and management of diabetes mellitus, since diabetes is associated with marked alterations in trace elements concentrations and may replace diminished element stores in the treatment of diabetes mellitus.

Abstract: Stems of plant Corchorus fascicularis L. are reported to possess medicinal values in traditional system of medicine. The present investigation deals with preliminary phytochemical investigation of Stems of Corchorus fascicularis L. which includes physicochemical parameters like ash values, extractive values and moisture content. Phytochemical investigation of nhexane, chloroform, ethanol and water extract revealed the presence of glycosides, tannins, terpenoids, steroids, carbohydrates, alkaloids, saponins and proteins. The main aim of present investigation is to study the pharmacognostic characters and phytochemical standard of Stems of Corchorus fascicularis L. which could be used to prepare a monograph for the proper identification of plant. <span>Medicinal plant plays a vital role for ailment of various chronic diseases due to the presence of phytochemical constituent. The preliminary phytochemical compounds was studied by using the ethanol, ethyl acetate, diethyl ether, chloroform and aqueous extracts of 15 wild edible fruits collected from <em>Boda </em>and <em>Kolli</em> Hills. The phytochemical compounds such as Phenol, tannins, saponin, alkaloid, flavonoids, steroids, </span><span lang="EN-IN">phlobotannins</span><span>, terpenoids, anthroquinones and cardiac glycosides were screened in 15 edible fruits by using standard methods. The diethyl ether extract, ethyl acetate and ethanol extract of the selected fruits<strong> </strong>shows the presence of phytochemicals compound. The highest occurrence shows the high therapeutic value possessing majority of phytochemical constituent of active compounds. In Further studies, the compound from these fruits were isolated and used for medicinal purposes</span>

Acanthosicyos horridus Welw. ex Hook. f. is a perennial shrub collected from the wild for its edible fruits and is also used as a traditional medicine. This study is aimed at evaluating the chemical properties and ethnomedicinal uses of A. horridus. Results of the current study are based on data derived from several online databases such as Scopus, Google Scholar, PubMed and Science Direct, and pre-electronic sources such as scientific publications, books, dissertations, book chapters and journal articles. This study revealed that the fruit and root infusions and/or decoctions of A. horridus are used as traditional medicine for arteriosclerosis, chest pains, gastro-intestinal disorders, kidney problems, nausea and sexually transmitted infections. Phytochemical compounds identified from the species include cucurbitacins, fatty acids and sterols. Some of the compounds identified from the species have applications in food industry and health promoting products.
