Effect of Juglone from C.cathayensis Exocarp on Summer Peony Photoinhibition

This paper studies the effects of the Juglone on improving the photosynthesis of the peony growing in the summer field, and alleviating the photosynthesis inhibition in the two months of July and August, by using the 0.06mg/L Juglone extracted from the C.cathayensis exocarp, one kind of the forestry waste, to insufflate the peony leaf surface.The research results show that ,by comparing the peony leaf after procession with the control group, the Pn summit values of the photosynthetic rate improve by 10.5% and 12.8% respectively, and the photosynthesis noon-break is greatly shortened; the stomatal conductance variance of the leaf is not big, but the Ci content decreases significantly; the PSII photochemical efficiency of Fv/Fm reduces by 20% and 26% respectively; ΦPSII decreases by 18.1% and 19.9% respectively;between the time period 10 am and 1 pm, when the sunlight is the most sufficient, the contents of the chlorophyll qP decrease by 10% and 11.6% respectively,and the contents of the NPQ increase by 17.3% and 14.3% respectively. The research results show that Juglone could greatly reduce the summer sunlight harm on the photosynthetic system of the peony leaf chloroplast, and improve the light utilization rate of the peony leaf.

This study was performed to evaluate the efficiency of tapioca processing wastewater treatment using aerobic biofilter with variety of biofilter media: coir, coal, PVC plastic and Bio - Ball BB15 plastic. Research results in the lab demonstrated all four aerobic biofilter models processed can treated completely N and COD which COD reached 90-98% and N reached 61-92%, respectively, at the organic loading rates in range of 0.5, 1, 1.5 and 2 kgCOD/m3.day. The results identified coir filter was the best in four researched materials with removal COD and specific substract utilization rate can reach 98%, and 0.6 kg COD/kgVSS.day. Research results open the new prospects for the application of the cheap materials, available for wastewater treatment.

Abstract Background As damage to the ecological environment continues to increase amid unreasonable amounts of irrigation, soil salinization has become a major challenge to agricultural development. Melatonin (MT) is a pleiotropic signal molecule and indole hormone, which alleviates the damage of abiotic stress to plants. MT has been confirmed to eliminate reactive oxygen species (ROS) by improving the antioxidant system and reducing oxidative damage under adversity. However, the mechanism by which exogenous MT mediates salt tolerance by regulating the photosynthetic capacity and ion balance of cotton seedlings still remains unknown. In this study, the regulatory effects of MT on the photosynthetic system, osmotic modulators, chloroplast, and anatomical structure of cotton seedlings were determined under 0–500 μM MT treatments with salt stress induced by treatment with 150 mM NaCl. Results Salt stress reduces the chlorophyll content, net photosynthetic rate, stomatal conductance, intercellular CO2 concentration, transpiration rate, PSII photochemical efficiency, PSII actual photochemical quantum yield, the apparent electron transfer efficiency, stomata opening, and biomass. In addition, it increases non-photochemical quenching. All of these responses were effectively alleviated by exogenous treatment with MT. Exogenous MT reduces oxidative damage and lipid peroxidation by reducing salt-induced ROS and protects the plasma membrane from oxidative toxicity. MT also reduces the osmotic pressure by reducing the salt-induced accumulation of Na+ and increasing the contents of K+ and proline. Exogenous MT can facilitate stomatal opening and protect the integrity of cotton chloroplast grana lamella structure and mitochondria under salt stress, protect the photosynthetic system of plants, and improve their biomass. An anatomical analysis of leaves and stems showed that MT can improve xylem and phloem and other properties and aides in the transportation of water, inorganic salts, and organic substances. Therefore, the application of MT attenuates salt-induced stress damage to plants. Treatment with exogenous MT positively increased the salt tolerance of cotton seedlings by improving their photosynthetic capacity, stomatal characteristics, ion balance, osmotic substance biosynthetic pathways, and chloroplast and anatomical structures (xylem vessels and phloem vessels). Conclusions Our study attributes help to protect the structural stability of photosynthetic organs and increase the amount of material accumulation, thereby reducing salt-induced secondary stress. The mechanisms of MT-induced plant tolerance to salt stress provide a theoretical basis for the use of MT to alleviate salt stress caused by unreasonable irrigation, fertilization, and climate change.

ABSTRACT The Paratudo (Tabebuia aurea) is a species occurring in the Pantanal of Miranda, Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil, an area characterized by seasonal flooding. To evaluate the tolerance of this plant to flooding, plants aged four months were grown in flooded soil and in non-flooded soil (control group). Stomatal conductance, transpiration and CO2 assimilation were measured during the stress (48 days) and recovery (11 days) period, totalling 59 days. The values of stomatal conductance of the control group and stressed plants at the beginning of the flooded were 0.33 mol m-2s-1 and reached 0.02 mol m-2 s-1 (46th day) at the end of this event. For the transpiration parameter, the initial rate was 3.1 mol m s-1, and the final rate reached 0.2 or 0.3 mol m-2 s-1 (47/48 th day). The initial photosynthesis rate was 8.9 mmol m-2s-1 and oscillated after the sixth day, and the rate reached zero on the 48th day. When the photosynthesis rate reached zero, the potted plants were dried, and the rate was analyzed (11th day). The following values were obtained for dried plants: stomatal conductance = 0.26 mol m-2 s-1, transpiration rate = 2.5 mol m-2 s-1 and photosynthesis rate = 7.8 mmol m-2 s-1. Flooded soil reduced photosynthesis and stomatal conductance, leading to the hypertrophy of the lenticels. These parameters recovered and after this period, and plants exhibited tolerance to flooding stress by reducing their physiological activities.

Background: In perioperative care, a reliable pain management is a vital appeal. Over recent years, Transversus Abdominis Plane (TAP) block is introduced as an important component of multimodal analgesia.Objective: To evaluate efficacy of TAP block in postoperative analgesia for Total Abdominal Hysterectomy (TAH) with subarachnoid block (SAB) in comparison of morphine consumption and VAS score.Methods: 60 patients were randomly allocated into 2 groups (TAP group-A & control group-B). Standard SAB was applied to all patients for elective TAH. Immediate after operation classical TAP block was performed through both Lumber Triangle Of Petit (LTOP) of group A patients. Both groups were placed in Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), arranged a common standard postoperative analgesic regimen for all, observed periodically and documented it accordingly in pre-designed data sheet.Results: TAP block prolonged the mean time of 1st required I/V morphine (TAP vs control, mean±SD 271.23±40.34 vs 195.33±22.16 min., p=0.001HS). Morphine requirement was also reduced (17.4±5.4 vs 26.2±4.4 mg, p=0.001HS). Pain VAS scores at rest and movement were also reduced at all time period (p? 0.01 to 0.001). There was no complication attributed to the TAP block.Conclusion: TAP block provided considerably effective postoperative analgesia in first 24 hours after major abdominal surgery like TAH.Journal of Bangladesh Society of Anaesthesiologists 2014; 27(1): 3-11

Determining which forms of mineral feed additives can increase farm animal productivity is a key area of research. This study assessed the mineral composition of ruminal fluid and the effectiveness of calcium and phosphorus used by animals after the introduction of finely dispersed particles (FDP) of SiO2 (group I) and FeCo (group II) with a hydrodynamic radius of 109.6 ± 16.6 and 265 ± 25 nm, respectively. The deposition and use of calcium and phosphorus in the body of the experimental animals exceeded the control values. In group I, 30.8% more calcium was deposited (p ≥ 0.05), and in group II, the value was 30.3% (p ≥ 0.01). In the experimental groups, the calcium utilization rate was 27.3% higher in group I (p ≥ 0.05), and 28.2% higher in group II (p ≥ 0.01) compared to in the control. Phosphorus deposition was 34% higher (p ≤ 0.01) in experimental group I and 6% higher in experimental group II, compared with the control. Group I had a high utilization rate of phosphorus from the feed (with a 29% difference compared to the control). Comparison of the experimental groups revealed that the introduction of SiO2 FDP promoted an increase in the concentration of silicon, phosphorus, and calcium in the ruminal fluid. The introduction of FeCo FDP was accompanied by a decrease in the concentration of iron and cobalt in the ruminal fluid. Thus, the use of feed additive in finely dispersed form in the diet of animals was accompanied by an increase in the use of calcium and phosphorus by the animal’s body, which is advisable when intensifying milk and meat productivity. Patients with renal failure are believed to have a poor survival rate after cardiopulmonary resuscitation, but there is little specific information about the outcomes of cardiopulmonary resuscitation in dialysis patients. To be better able to inform dialysis patients and assist them in decision making about cardiopulmonary resuscitation, the eight-year experience with cardiopulmonary resuscitation in dialysis patients at a university dialysis program was analyzed and outcomes were compared with those of a control group of nondialysis patients undergoing cardiopulmonary resuscitation during the same time period in the same hospital. Of 221 dialysis patients experiencing cardiopulmonary arrest, 74 (34%) had CPR compared with 247 (21%) of 1,201 control patients (P = 0.0002). Six of 74 (8%; 95% confidence interval, 2 to 14%) dialysis patients survived to hospital discharge compared with 30 of 247 (12%; 95% confidence interval, 8 to 16%) control patients (P = not significant). At 6 months after CPR, 2 (3%) of 74 dialysis patients were still alive compared with 23 (9%) of 247 controls (P = 0.044); this difference was not explained by age or comorbid conditions. Twenty-one (78%) of the 27 successfully resuscitated dialysis patients died a mean of 4.4 days later; 95% were on mechanical ventilation in an intensive care unit at the time of death. It was concluded that cardiopulmonary resuscitation is a procedure that rarely results in extended survival for dialysis patients. In discussions about cardiopulmonary resuscitation with dialysis patients, nephrologists should provide this information.

Common buckwheat and Tartary buckwheat were grown in Slovenia outdoors at different elevations – 300 m, 600 m and 1180 m a.s.l. Both species were foliarly treated with selenium twice (in the vegetative phase and in the flowering phase). The effects of Se treatment and different growing locations on selected biochemical, physiological and anatomical traits were monitored. In Se treated common buckwheat, amount of chlorophylls was higher in plants from Ljubljana (the lowest elevation – 300 m a.s.l.) than in plants grown in Podbeže (600 m a.s.l.), whereas in control group, plants grown in Ljubljana contained more chlorophylls than plants from Javorje (the highest elevation – 1180 m a.s.l.). In both buckwheat species, Se alone did not affect amount of chlorophylls in any of location. In Se treated common buckwheat plants, the amount of UV absorbing compounds was the highest in plants, grown at the highest elevation. In common buckwheat, Se lowered the number of CaOx in plants, grown in Javorje. Conditions at different elevations, as well as treatments with Se, did not affect potential and effective photochemical efficiency of Photosystem II. This article discusses the using of risalah of tajwid digital apps in increasing the students of SMA Negeri 4 Pinrang abilities in reading al-Qur’an. The using of risalah of tajwid digital apps was by optimazing the technology of computer that running by risalah of tajwid digital apps, that able to create the learning environment to prepare the options that can stimulated the students to use the potential cognitive. The objectives of this research was to get the empirical data about the students’ ability in reading Alquran before and after taught by using risalah digital of tajwid science and to get the empirical data about students’ ability in reading Alquran before and after using text book as well as to get the information about the difference in students’ level of ability in reading Alquran at the experiment class and the control class. The research design is used nonequivalent control group design, it means that in this design the experiment class nor the control class was not selected randomly.The research results are: (1) The level of students’ ability in reading Alquran in the experiment class before the treatment was classified in poor category, however, after given the treatment it was in good category. (2) The level of students’ ability in reading Alquran in the control class before the treatment was in poor category, however, after given the treatment it was in good category. (3) There are difference of students’ level ability in reading Alquran in the experiment class and the control class.

Abstract. The study aimed at evaluation of the effect of colostral supplement on humoral immunity, growth and health state of calves until the 3rd month of life. Examinations were carried out on 40 Polish Black-and-White Holstein-Friesian calves. After birth, the calves were separated into two groups (20 calves each): control group – without addition of colostral supplement, and experimental one – with colostral supplement in diet. Blood was sampled from each calf on day 5 and 30 of life, and total protein, albumin, and alpha, beta and gamma globulin levels were determined in it. Evaluation of calves’ growth and development course was carried out basing on weighing and daily gain results. The favourable effect of colostral supplement on calves’ health state and body weight gains was found. No significant effect of colostral supplement on total protein level or gamma-globulin fraction level was found. The effect of colostral supplement on reduction of alpha-globulin fraction decrease was found in a time period until the 30th day of calves’ life (P≤0.01). The study so far point to the purposefulness of using this supplement, in particular in the case of colostrum deficiency or its poor quality.

This study aims to identify main facilities and determine the level of the main facilities utilization of Birea fish landing base, Pa'jukukang District, Bantaeng Regency. The research was conducted from May to July 2020. The method used in this research is a case study. Primary data was consisting of the length of the pier, the distance between ships, the length of time to moor, the length of the breakwater and the length of the trip, and the size and number of ships anchored, were collected through direct observation in the field. Meanwhile, secondary data such as catch production data, development of the number and types of fishing units, the size of the port pool area, and the depth of the waters were taken through the interviews method. The utilization rate of the main facilities utilization of Berea fish landing base are a pier utilization rate of 90.5%, a port pool of 72.5%, a land port 86%, and two meters of water depth are required. Based on the research results, it is found that the long pier is still possible to accommodate ships that are anchored, while the port pool and portland still meet the requirements, however, dredging is necessary for dredging the depth of the waters for shipping in and out of ships.
