The paper explores the regional dimensions of under-employment by analysing the uneven dispersion of part-time jobs in Greece. It understands under-employment as an integral dimension of contemporary flexible labour trends, triggered by devaluation and expanding amid crisis, although in diverse geographical and sectoral terms. It follows a methodology that comparatively analyses statistical data, relevant secondary sources and previous case studies, before moving to a theoretical contextualization of the findings. Based on this framework, NUTS-II level total employment and part-time work data are analysed through location quotients, and a new embellishment of shift-share analysis is implemented for 2005–2008 and 2009–2012 across nine sectors. The findings reveal four distinct, although porous, patterns of under-employment that are distinguished according to different regional productive specializations and the impact of structural or regional effects. The reasons why some regional economies, such as the tourist ones, were more resistant to employment losses, and at the same time the most keen on expanding part-time work, are scrutinized. Concluding, three deeper causal mechanisms, namely productive-technological, organizational and institutional, that determine the under-employment patterns revealed, are discussed and contrasted to relevant literature findings.

The article presents the results of an empirical study of the content and characteristics of the ideal "Matrimonial way of life" in professional military men and women in connection with the levels of their social frustration. The study involved 60 officially married military personnel. The research methods were questioning, testing and methods of statistical data processing. The study showed that men are frustrated with their chosen profession and the way of life dictated by it, and women are frustrated with their position in the team and material income, which leads to psychological discomfort and decreasing of work capacity. It has been established that an important condition for the approximation of the ideal "Matrimonial way of life" for both men and women is the official marriage (regardless of the severity of social frustration). Along with this, for women with high and low levels of social frustration are important the territorial conditions for the approximation of ideal, and for women with moderate level of social frustration – financial conditions. The conditions for approximation the ideal in men do not depend on the levels of their social frustration – men want to make basic decisions in the family and financially provide for the family. In general, the level of social frustration of the personality determines the content of the components and characteristics of the ideal "Matrimonial way of life" in men and women, with the exception means of approaching the ideal, its scenario, internal consistency, as well as the conditions for its approximation in men. The results of this research can be applied in the work of psychologists of military units and garrisons.

AbstractAccurate pricing of the property market is necessary to ensure effective and efficient decision making. Property price is typically modelled using the hedonic price model (HPM). This approach was found to exhibit aggregation bias due to its assumption that the coefficient estimate is constant and fails to consider variation in location. The aggregation bias is minimized by segmenting the property market into submarkets that are distinctly homogeneous within their submarket and heterogeneous across other submarkets. Although such segmentation was found to improve the prediction accuracy of HPM, there appear to be conflicting findings regarding what constitutes a submarket and how the submarkets are to be driven. This paper therefore reviews relevant literature on the subject matter. It was found that, initially, submarkets were delineated based on a priori classification of the property market into predefined boundaries. The method was challenged to be arbitrary and an empirically statistical data-driven property submarket classification was advocated. Based on the review, there is no consensus on the superiority of either of the methods over the another; a combination of the two methods can serve as a means of validating the effectiveness of property segmentation procedures for more accurate property price prediction.

This paper proposes the synergistic method as an alternative approach that embraces urban complexity and reverses it to a set of mutually reinforcing improvement strategies. After illustrating the general idea of synergistic improvement by examining the correlation among a number of urban issues, this paper uses the case study to explore this inter-connectivity in further details. Hikifune in Tokyo was selected as a case study because of its distinct atmosphere, historical background, and fragility in terms of demographics, natural hazards, and economics. Relevant literature, along with the empirical and statistical data, is the primary method used in this research. Relying on the discovered findings, the conclusion returns the discussion to the necessity for a synergistic improvement.

Boundary-making in Istria is an old undertaking. It has actually never ceasesed, not even today. Istrian peninsula has thus undergone substantial boundary shifts during the last couple of centuries (especially after the Venetian demise in 1797). But Istria carries its worldwide fame also due to one of probably the harshest disputes on the post-war European grounds – the Trieste territory dispute. In author's perspective, this dispute is one of the four main corner-stones of the current Slovenian-Croatian boundary dispute. The remaining three include the Kozler's boundary around Dragonja (Rokava) River, the ungraspable notions of Austrian censuses in Istria, and the narratives of partisan settlements on military jurisdiction. However, there are other very important aspects which significantly shaped the development of the dispute, but we will focus at assessing the importance of the aforementioned ones. In this sense, the analysis of the effects of the outcome of the Trieste dispute and its implications to the contemporary interstate dispute is set forth. By unveiling its material and consequently its psychological effects upon the contemporary bilateral relations, its analyses simultaneously reveals backgrounds of never answered question, why Kozler's proposed linguistic boundary around Dragonja (Rokava) River turned out to become a boundary of national character. Though nowadays disputed, there is absolutely no chance for both involved parties to substantially draw away from once decisively drawn line of a layman. Despite the fierce battle of words in Slovenian public media on whether should the interstate boundary be placed on Mirna (Quieto) or Dragonja Rivers, it will be argued here that the actual choice of the Valley of Dragonja as a boundary is by all means Slovenian. The arguments are based on extensive analyses of cartographic materials, relevant literature, documents, and statistical data.
