Prison service employees belong to a professional group that is susceptible to a quick professional burnout. They spend a few hours per day in a limited space with the same individuals – the co-workers and the prisoners. While providing support to the latter ones, they frequently do not see the results of their own work. Moreover, when staying in a close contact, especially the direct one, with the socially maladjusted persons – the so-called challenging client, the process of their desensitization is triggered. Thus, the aim of the author’s own research was to define the level of emotional and cognitive empathy as well as the severity of the occupational burnout of penitentiary educators and security officers in penal institutions. Therefore the author’s own research was conducted by applying a diagnostic survey method using the Oldenburg Burnout Inventory (OLBI) in order to determine the extent to which the surveyed individuals are professionally burned out.. Moreover, the Polish version of the Interpersonal Reactivity Index was used to provide the answer to the question regarding the level of empathy of the respondents. The study involved seventy (70) officers of the Prison Service from four penitentiary units of the District Inspectorate of Prison Service in Bialystok and Lublin, half of whom were penitentiary educators.

Those in the medical profession, due to close contact and the emotional commitment of caring for patients, are particularly vulnerable to the occurrence of a phenomenon known as occupational ‘burnout’. The presented work deals with the problem of burnout and its relationship with new tasks undertaken by nurses. The aim of the study was an analysis of the relationship between the level of professional burnout of the nurses examined and their readiness to take on new duties related to writing prescriptions. The study was conducted among primary health care (PHC) and outpatient specialist care (OSC) nurses. The author’s questionnaire and the standardized Link Burnout Questionnaire (LBQ) were used. The highest level of occupational burnout was related to psychophysical exhaustion (16.00 ± 6.21). Higher results of occupational burnout among the nurses surveyed were matched by the lower readiness of the nurses to administer medicines and write prescriptions.

This study aims to investigate the occupational burnout levels of Turkish EFL teachers by various variables. The general survey method was used in the study. The data were collected by creating a scale in the Google forms. The study group of the research consists of 365 EFL teachers working in the fall semester between January and March 2021. In this study, the Teacher Burnout Scale developed by Kaner, Şekercioğlu, and Yellice (2008) was used. According to the results of the research, no significant relationship was found between the burnout levels of Turkish EFL teachers and the variables of gender, marital status, and economic level. On the other hand, it was seen that the variables of professional seniority, getting support from colleagues and administrators affected the burnout levels of the teachers. The findings were discussed in relation to the literature and suggestions were made. Keywords: EFL teachers; Turkish EFL teachers; professional burnout

Abstract We evaluated the psychometric properties of the empathy quotient (EQ) scale translated to Spanish in Chile. We estimated its structural validity, and its construct validity with other convergent measures of empathy and attachment, as well an inversely associated construct such as aggression. We used a general sample of students and community individuals (n = 336). Participants completed the EQ, Interpersonal Reactivity Index (IRI), and Buss-Perry Aggression Questionnaire (BPAQ). Another exclusively community group (n = 102) completed Collins Adult Attachment scale and the EQ. CFA and ESEM analyses confirmed the structural model fit of the data to three previously reported dimensions of the EQ: cognitive empathy (CE), emotional reactivity (ER) and social skills (SS). Sex-differences in emotional reactivity, and the predicted relationships with the convergent measures were observed. The current Chilean version of the EQ resulted in an appropriate multidimensional measurement of empathy. Finally, providing a specific social skills dimension extends the traditional conception of cognitive and affective empathy to the social realm in the Chilean context.

This study uses a causal model survey method using path analysis techniques. This study aims to confirm the theoretical model with empirical data, the study population is employees in Investment and Integrated Service Office Bintan Regency, with sample of 39 employees. Data collecting technical using variable measurements by a questionnaire instrument, this instrument was developed based on theoretical studies. Data analysis uses descriptive statistics and statistical analysis. Statistical tests are used to test the significance of path coefficients using Partial Least Square (PLS) which is a Multivariate Analysis in the second generation using structural equation modeling (SEM). PLS can be used for a small number of samples and does not require the assumption that data distribution must be normal or not. The results of the analysis found that the relationships between variables formulated in the formulation of the problem as many as 6 pieces obtained significant results.

This research on health service employees who are in Jakarta wants to observe the work stress experienced and how the risks will arise from organizational commitment and employee performance. The design of this research is to use a survey method with cross-section data collection using a questionnaire. A total of 82 employees of the Private Hospital consisting of Doctors, Nurses and Staff as respondents in this study, were determined by utilizing the simple random sampling method. The data analysis method used is Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) as a design in analyzing data analysis on testing research hypotheses. The results of the study present the results that work stress has a negative and significant impact on organizational commitment, then work stress that has a negative and significant impact on employee performance, then high organizational commitment can actually cause a positive and significant impact on employee performance.

Abstract Few investigations have analyzed the neuroanatomical substrate of empathic capacities in healthy subjects, and most of them have neglected the potential involvement of cerebellar structures. The main aim of the present study was to investigate the associations between bilateral cerebellar macro- and micro-structural measures and levels of cognitive and affective trait empathy (measured by Interpersonal Reactivity Index, IRI) in a sample of 70 healthy subjects of both sexes. We also estimated morphometric variations of cerebral Gray Matter structures, to ascertain whether the potential empathy-related peculiarities in cerebellar areas were accompanied by structural differences in other cerebral regions. At macro-structural level, the volumetric differences were analyzed by Voxel-Based Morphometry (VBM)- and Region of Interest (ROI)-based approaches, and at a micro-structural level, we analyzed Diffusion Tensor Imaging (DTI) data, focusing in particular on Mean Diffusivity and Fractional Anisotropy. Fantasy IRI-subscale was found to be positively associated with volumes in right cerebellar Crus 2 and pars triangularis of inferior frontal gyrus. The here described morphological variations of cerebellar Crus 2 and pars triangularis allow to extend the traditional cortico-centric view of cognitive empathy to the cerebellar regions and indicate that in empathizing with fictional characters the cerebellar and frontal areas are co-recruited.

Background. Empathy plays a key role in social understanding, but its empirical measurement has proved difficult. The Empathy Quotient (EQ) is a self-report scale designed to do just that. This series of four studies examined the reliability and validity of the EQ and determined its factor structure.Method. In Study 1, 53 people completed the EQ, Social Desirability Scale (SDS) and a non-verbal mental state inference test, the Eyes Task. In Study 2, a principal components analysis (PCA) was conducted on data from 110 healthy individuals and 62 people reporting depersonalisation (DPD). Approximately 1 year later, Study 3, involved the re-administration of the EQ (n=24) along with the Interpersonal Reactivity Index (IRI; n=28). In the last study, the EQ scores of those with DPD, a condition that includes a subjective lack of empathy, were examined in depth.Results. An association was found between the Eyes task and EQ, and only three EQ items correlated with the SDS. PCA revealed three factors: (1) ‘cognitive empathy’; (2) ‘emotional reactivity’, and (3) ‘social skills’. Test–retest reliability was good and moderate associations were found between the EQ and IRI subscales, suggesting concurrent validity. People with DPD did not show a global empathy deficit, but reported less social competence.Conclusions. The EQ is a valid, reliable scale and the different subscales may have clinical applications.

This article examines the specifics of the professional and personal deformation of the health service employees of the Internal Affairs Ministry as a special category. For the purpose of the research we used a complex of psycho diagnostical methodics including the Tikhomirova’s questionnaire on the level of professional personality deformation, the questionnaire of professional deformation as well as the technique of Tikhonova - Komb of the methodology of studying frustration reactions of health professionals under stressful professional situations, the questionnaire of Maslach-Vodopianova on professional burnout, the questionnaire on empathy adapted from Megrabian’s technique. We also used the technique of the professional activity motivation by K. Zamfir modified by A.A. Rean and methods of mathematical and statistical data processing. The authors have empirically identified psychological features of professional deformation of the health workers including a predominance of self-defensive extrapunitive reaction under conflict situations with patients, the development of professional burnout within the type of the low professional success coupled with signs of emotional exhaustion, the predominance of the external motivation to work as well as the reduced level of empathy. The career duration and educational level have proved to have influence on the specifics of the professional and personal deformation of the health service employees.

Callous–Unemotional (CU) traits are personality attributes, which are associated with a deficit of affective valence and reduced empathetic responding in high CU trait clinical populations. The aim of the research was to explore whether a similar pattern of empathy and emotional responding correlated with CU trait manifestation in the general population. A total of 124 participants completed the Inventory of Callous-Unemotional Traits, the Interpersonal Reactivity Index, the Empathy Quotient, an expression recognition task, and a measure of affective response. Negative correlations with CU trait score were observed for both cognitive empathy and emotional empathy. Accuracy in the identification of fearful expressions presented a negative association with CU trait score. Self-rating of affective valence, when viewing both positive and negative images, indicated a universal reduction in emotional response associated with increased CU trait manifestation.

The article presents the results of research aimed at determining the characteristics of the relationships of personal and professional characteristics and professional hardiness of trade union workers. It is emphasized that due to the significant increase in stress on a person, the problem of ensuring its hardiness and, in particular, professional hardiness can be considered one of the leading for modern psychology. The study with the participation of 32 trade union workers in Kyiv found that to the greatest extent the indicators of their professional hardiness are interrelated with the level of satisfaction with their profession and work. This level is most closely correlated with professional acceptance of the challenge, emotional and professional components, as well as with the general level of professional hardiness. Quite noticeably, the level of professional self-efficacy of trade union workers is interrelated with indicators of professional hardiness. The connections with the indicators of professional motivation are expressed much weaker and ambiguous, which may serve as evidence of the expressed specificity, and maybe even - certain distortions in the professional-motivational sphere of trade union workers. Among the indicators of occupational burnout and deformity, with which the professional hardiness of trade union workers is mostly negative connections, there is a particularly negative correlation with emotional exhaustion, which can be considered as the most pronounced factor unfavorable to the professional hardiness of trade union workers. Prospects for further research are to develop on the basis of this results the practical technological approaches aimed at strengthening the professional hardiness of trade union workers. Keywords: hardiness, professional hardiness, trade union workers, job satisfaction, self-efficacy, professional motivation, professional "burnout".
