Abstract Focus and outcomes for participants This symposium will focus on evidence from pharmacoepidemiological research on prevalence and incidence of prescription opioid prevalence, opioid utilisation patterns and related harms in Australia. The symposium will also discuss interventions to reduce opioid-related harm. The speakers will discuss how opioid use and prescribing culture has evolved over the last two decades and provide insight from recent research using big data analysis on prescription opioid use and related outcomes. Rationale for the symposium, including for its inclusion in the Congress In 2016, there were 679 overdose deaths involving opioid pain medications in Australia, with the majority of these deaths unintentional. There is growing concern that harm from opioid pain medications in Australia may mimic the situation in the United States and Canada, where the problem has been labelled an epidemic. Recent Monash led research using Australia’s Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme data for 2013 to 2018 found that approximately 3 million Australians adults use opioids each year and approximately 1.9 million adults start taking opioids. Of this population of adults that start using opioids, 2.6% become long-term users for over a year. Long-term use and the use of strong opioids are associated with a range of adverse health outcomes. High-dose opioid use has also been associated with falls, fractures, hospitalisations and motor vehicle injuries. The rationale of this symposium is to draw on the expertise of the presenters and share innovative epidemiological and data analysis methods to understand opioid use in the Australian context. The creation of such a forum at the World Congress will allow for enhanced knowledge sharing on both a national and international platform and assist in planning strategies to better anticipate and manage potential harms when opioid pain medications are initiated. Presentation program The Symposium consists of four presentations: Names of presenters Names of facilitator or chair Professor Danny Liew, Deputy Head of School, School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine, Monash University, Melbourne, Australia Ms. Michelle Steeper, Research Officer, Centre for Medicine Use and Safety, Monash University, Melbourne, Australia

The university academic manager (AM) or head of school/department is typically positioned in a hierarchical world: as a middle manager ‘sandwiched’ between senior management and subordinates. I propose a different framing: the AM cohabits two worlds, the worlds of hierarchy and collegiality respectively. Using an ideal type framework and data based mainly on interviews with 20 AMs, I examine AMs’ tasks, identity and social relations, showing that AMs adopt a dual work identity that is associated with the ‘two worlds’ imagery which explains their orientation towards their tasks and social relations. This interpretation enables a deeper understanding of how AMs enact their role and encourages dialogue about the future of middle-level university management.

The notion of social work teaching in the veterinary science programme may seem novel for our profession. However, the philosophy underlying the context of animal and human welfare in One Health is the result of the collaborative effort of multiple disciplines and professions to attain optimal health for people, animals and the environment. One Health emphasises some of the key domains such as creating an enabling environment and advocating change and communication amongst healthcare professionals (Courtenay et al., 2014). Even when interprofessional education (IPE) and One Health competencies are evident in courses, Courtenay and colleagues (2014) noted that they are mostly at clinical level. In recent years, there has been a call for more collaboration between human and veterinary medicine to learn and practise One Health competencies, and “links” between the abuse of children, vulnerable adults and animals have been identified as a key area for exploration (Arkow, 2015a; Jordan Lem, 2014). In 2015, the second author and the Head of School of Social Work at Massey University had the opportunity to skype with Dr Elizabeth Strand, the Founding Director of Veterinary Social Work (VSW) (Strand et al., 2012), from University of Tennessee-Knoxville to discuss setting up VSW and also to seek adviceon challenges and strategies on engaging and collaborating with the veterinary school. Dr Strand shared her experiences and encouraged us to contact the Head of the Veterinary School at our university to start a conversation. Our Head of School approached the then Head of School of Veterinary Science and within days a meeting was organised. We went into the meeting expecting a first level of exploration with the Head of School to see if he was interested but were surprised when we were joined by another senior lecturer (SG) who had been re-designing the course content of professional practice for veterinarian students. He was very keen of our idea on working with him to develop a module on teaching his students about the link between animal abuse and family violence. It seemed the Veterinary School hadbeen identifying gaps in their curriculum for some time in relation to health and wellbeing, communication skills and conflict resolution, but they had only accessed support from student health services at the university. He also acknowledged the increasing attention in research literature about the link between human and animal violence as a pivotal area that could be integrated within the Veterinary Science Professional Practice curriculum, but did not realise that social work could play a role in supporting their curriculum and knowledge building. The meeting was a success, and within a year, we started our contribution by running the first two-hour workshop with first-year veterinary students discussing animal abuse and family violence, a workshop which then became a regular feature of the veterinary programme between 2016 and 2018. The purpose of this paper is to provide a description of what was included in the educational contexts, reflections from veterinary students’ engagement and future needs to connect between human service and animal service professionals to address the link.

Permendiknas implementation research on the appointment of pricipals is inseparable from the basic permendiknas namely: (1) permendiknas number 13 year 2007 about pricipal standar, (2) permendiknas number 28 tahun 2010 about teacher assignment as Head of school. This research discloses how the process of appointment of headmaster of SMP negeri in Dinas Education and culture of  Siak Regency, is in accordance with the provisions set by the government in permendiknas number 28 year 2010. This implementation research isbased on metter and Horn theory and describe the findings using approach qualitative methods. Data obtained by interviuw, observation and document. Futher data are analyzed and performed continuously to complate. The results of the study note that the general requirements in administrative selection are not met well. Because three is still the age of principals who do not meet the provisions with the number 85%. This means that only 15% of the principals are appointed in accordance with the provisions of the first appointment process in office. Even 29% of headmaster who served in Siak district will now undergo more than 2 periods of duty. At the rank and class of principals also found 13% of principals who are currently still in rank/class IIIB. While on special requirenments found arround 65% of  school principas in Siak Regency do not have a certificate of principal issued by LP2KS is a NUKS certificate. There are several factors that become obstacles in implementing permendiknas number 28 year 2010 in Siak Regency. Namale; (1) the SDK of siak Distric employees, especially the lack of education, (2) the cost of education and training to obtain NUKS certificate, (3) the role of the acceptability team in the process of placing the principal the carry out his duties as principal.
