Background: Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a chronic demyelinating, inflammatory, and degenerative disease of the central nervous system. MS gradually limits and deteriorates the patients’ quality of life. Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate and compare the quality of life in patients with MS consuming Fingolimod and Cinnovex. Materials & Methods: In an analytical cross-sectional study, 106 patients with Relapsing-Remitting MS (RRMS) referred to specialized neurology clinics of Guilan University of Medical Sciences were selected for the study using a convenience sampling method (52 patients consuming Fingolimod and 54 patients consuming Cinnovex). Then, we collected their demographic information and medical profile. The patients were assessed by the Hamburg quality of life questionnaire in MS. The obtained data were analyzed in SPSS V. 22 using the Chi-square test, independent t-test, Mann-Whitney U, one-way and multivariate analysis of covariance. Results: There was a significant difference between the two groups in terms of age, number of attacks in the last 6 months, and educational level (P<0.05). After controlling confounding variables, it was found that consumers of Fingolimod had a better quality of life. At the subscales level, this difference was significant only in the mood dimension (F=6.931, P=0.011, η=0.12). Conclusion: Patients consuming Fingolimod reported a better quality of life compared to consumers of Cinnovex. This improvement was mainly found in mood scores.

Background: With increasing life expectancy and decreasing fertility rate the aging population is growing significantly, requiring actions that enable melhoraras health and quality of life of older people. Objective: This study aimed compare the perception of quality of life among elderly participants of a traditional exercise program performed in a Basic Health Units (EF-BHU) with practitioners of competitive sports that participate in the Senior Regional Games (JORI). Methods: The study involved 98 subjects of both sexes, aged over 60 years living in Votuporanga, SP, Brazil. Information have been raised as to the sociodemographic profile, health status, gender, age and quality of life through the WHOQOL-BREF questionnaire and WHOQOL-OLD. The numerical variables (age and education) were compared (inter-group) using the test Mann-Whitney. The chi-square test was used to analyze the associations in categorical variables. The “scores” of quality of life questionnaire (numerical) were classified, so that those subjects with levels located at quartile 4 (Q4) were designated “high” and peers located in other quartiles (Q1, Q2 and Q3) designated “low”. For associations “2x2” (physical activity practiced x quality of life) was employed again the chi-square test. Variables with P<0.2 were subjected to the logistic regression model (Univariate) Poisson with robust adjustment of variance. Then, those variables that were statistically significant (P<0.05) in the univariate model, were subjected to the adjusted model. Results: The results indicate that the elderly have JORI median age less than EF-UBS elderly (64 versus 67 years, p <0.01) higher education (10 versus 02 years, p <0.01) and have more positive perceptions related to their housing, income and health. Regarding the quality of life of the JORI elderly have more positive perceptions in various dimensions in relation to EF-UBS elderly). Conclusion: We can conclude that elderly JORI, in general, have more positive perceptions of quality of life in relation to the EF-UBS elderly.

SummaryThe aim of the study was to compare the satisfaction with quality of life indicators (QoLI) and quality of life domains (QoLD) scores between people with physical disabilities (PPD) and people who are deaf or hard of hearing (PD/HH) from sport participation point of view. The study included 315 individuals with PPD (n = 150; male = 76) and PD/HH (n = 165; male = 85) divided into two groups of those who are regularly participating in sport and those who are not participating in any sport activity in their leisure. The second part of the Subjective Quality of Life Analysis (S.QUA.L.A.) was used. The Pearson chi-square test was used to determine the differences in 23 QoLI and 5 QoLD between PPD and PD/HH from sport participation point of view and student’s two-sample t-test was used to compare overall quality of life (QoL). We found that PD/HH who are participating regularly in sport presented significantly higher satisfaction with 7 evaluated QoLI and with all 5 QoLD. Overall QoL score was significantly higher (p < .01) in PD/HH. In the group of people who are not participating in sport we found significantly higher satisfaction with 13 QoLI in PD/HH and with 8 QoLI in PPD. Satisfaction with 4 QoLD was significantly higher in PD/HH and only with domain (physical health) were significantly higher satisfied PPD (p < .01). Overall QoL score did not show significant differences between groups of people with disabilities who are not participating in any sport. The results of our study confirmed that PD/HH have significantly higher QoL comparing PPD no matter if they participating in sport or not. This evaluation measured by S.QUA.L.A shows that it is a suitable tool to asses QoL in people with different kinds of disabilities.

Dataanalyzed using kolmogorov smirnov obtained p = 0,952 for relationship betweentooth loss with nuturional status and p = 0.676 for relationship between useof denture with nutritional status. Chi square used to test relationship betweentooth loss with quality of life (p= 0,735) and use of denture with quality of lifeshowed p = 0,139.Conclusions: The conclusion is there is no relationship between tooth lossand use of denture with nutritional status and quality of life in elderly society inPenatahan Village Penebel Tabanan
