Background:Turmeric is typically used as a spicy food preservative and colorant. It has been proved that curcumin has a wide range of biological effects including anti-inflammatory, anti-viral, anti-fungal, and curcumin activity that can improve antibiotic activity on the wounds. Objectives: To evaluate the effects of Curcumin with and without antibiotics on skin wound treatment. Materials and Methods: The protocol was approved by the animal house in medical college / Basra university. This study used nine male rabbits aged about 6 months and an average weight of (1.083 g). Each group consists of 3 rabbits: control group (normal saline) A, topical curcumin in group B, topical curcumin, and tetracycline ointment in group C. Regular treatments were given to rabbits in therapeutic groups. Result: The lowest Mean ± SDof swelling of suturing area was noted in both groups that treated by curcumin alone (9.07 ± 0.97 vs 15±1 mm, p value = 0.002) and that treated with curcumine and antibiotic (9.1±0.9vs 15±1 mm, p value = 0.002) versus the control group ( that treated by normal saline) and the lowest Mean ± SD of elevation of suture line was noted in both group that treated by curcumin alone (2.63 ± 0.06 vs 4.07±0.21 mm, p value >0.001) and that treated with curcumin and antibiotic (2.7 ± 0.2 vs 4.07±0.21 mm, p value =0.001) versus control group. There is no significant statistical difference between the Mean ± SD neither of swelling of suture area nor of elevation of suture lines of groups that treated by curcumin alone and group that treated with curcumin and antibiotic [(9.07 ± 0.97 vs 9.1 ±0.9, p value=0.97),(2.63±0.06 vs 2.7 ± 0.2, p value=0.61) respectively]. The histopathological evaluation is consistent with morphological changes as at day 3 of wound healing in both groups that treated by curcumine with and without antibiotic, there is formation a thin layer of keratin and absence of features that indicate delay wound healing such as hemorrhage, inflammatory cell infiltrate of (Neutrophils, macrophages and lymphocytes) and debris, which are detected in control group. Furthermore, at day 7 of control group, there is decrease of inflammation, presence of gap between the two edgesof the wound but no keratin formation. No clear histopathological difference in wound healing between tested groups that treated by curcumin with and without antibiotic. Conclusion: There issignificant clinical and histological evidences that the curcumin not only prevent delay of wound healing but it is also enhanced wound healing. No significant difference in using curcumin alone or combine it with local antibiotic.

An appendectomy is a surgical intervention that has the purpose of ablative surgery or removal of body parts that contain problems or have disease. One of the postoperative treatments of apendectomy is with wound care. The current wound care treatment is modern and conventional wound care. Objective: This study was to investigate the effect of treatment of postoperative wound healing apendectomy. Methodology: The design used in this research is Quasi Experiment, with posttest-only design approach. The number of samples taken is 18 respondent. Taking sampling with accidental sampling technique. Result: The result shows that p-value 0.001, with mean value in intervention group was 5.50 and in control group 13.50. Conclusion: There is a significant difference in the wound healing process using conventional and modern wound care.Keywords                    : type of wound care, post operative apendectomy

Introduction: The incidence of acute and chronic injuries increases every year. Most injuries in the world population, as many as 48%, are caused by trauma or surgery. the highest incidence of wounds in the world based on the etiology was from surgery, which was 110.30 million cases. One of the handlings of wounds on the skin can be done by giving herbal medicines, which can be easily accessed by the public, such as binahong leaves and papaya leaves. Purpose: To analyze the effectiveness of giving 40% binahong leaf extract cream and 40% papaya leaf extract cream on the wound distance in the white rat wound healing process. Method: this study is an experimental study with post-test only control group design approach. The sampling technique used in this study was a random sampling method where the number of samples was calculated using the Federer formula, with a total sample of 28 white rats. The distance of the wound was measured using a micrometer. Results: Twenty-eight wound distance on rats were measured as subjects of the study and then treated with binahong leaf extract cream and papaya leaf extract cream, then the wound distance of each treatment was measured using a micrometer. According to the results, 40% binahong leaf extract cream and 40% papaya leaf extract cream showed better effectiveness in reducing the wound distance of white rat incision than the negative control group (cream base) and positive control group (gentamicin ointment). According to the Mann Whitney test comparing the P1 group (40% binahong leaf extract cream) and P2 (40% papaya leaf extract cream), p-value >0.05, which is 0.543, which means that P1 has no significant mean difference with P2. Conclusion: There was no significant difference in effectiveness between the treatment of 40% binahong leaf extract cream and 40% papaya leaf extract cream.

Abstract Background A burn is a thermal injury caused by biological, chemical, electrical and physical agents with local and systemic repercussions. There are several ways of classifying burns: Classification by mechanism or cause, depth and extent of burn . Objectives The objective of this study was to determine the safety and efficacy of using recombinant human growth hormone (rhGH) in the treatment of pediatric burn victims and their probable effect on accelerating burn wound healing. Patients and Methods This study was an Interventional randomized controlled Double Blind Study in which Patients subdivided randomly into 2 groups: Group A received somatotropine hormone after their 3 days of resuscitation besides their conventional treatment during their stay in the Burn ICU. Group B received the conventional treatment only in the Burn ICU. Results The comparison between the GH group and the control group showed that that there was statistically significant difference found between the two studied groups regarding TBSA of burn at 3rd week. The mean TBSA in GH group was ( 9.06 ± 7.47 ) while in the control group (13.94 ± 11.96) with P value (0.041). There was highly statistically significant difference found between the two studied groups regarding Insulin like growth factor .the mean Insulin like growth factor in GH group was (16.48 ± 11.40) while in the control group(2.77 ± 0.64) with P value(0.000). Conclusion The use of recombinant Growth hormone with a dose of 0.2 mg/Kg SQ 2 days per week with 3 days time interval in pediatric burn patients after their primary resuscitation from the burn injury, shows a marvelous improvement concerning the total body surface area of burn(TBSA) as the patient received the growth hormone showed a decrease total body surface area of burn(TBSA) than the control group. This may be accounted for the faster wound healing and readiness for grafting .

ABSTRACT: To evaluate the therapeutic contribution of MSC intravenous infusion to surgical wound healing in dexamethasone-immunosuppressed rats, thirty-five rats were randomly divided into 2 groups: in the Control Group (CG), five rats received normal saline as 0.2ml subcutaneous (SC) injections every 24 hours, for 30 consecutive days and, in the Dexamethasone Group (DG), 30 rats were given 0.2mL subcutaneous dexamethasone (0.1mg kg-1) every 24 hours, for 30 consecutive days. After 30 days, all rats underwent surgery to create an experimental skin wound. The 30 animals of the DG group were divided into two equal groups, which received different treatments: the dexamethasone group (DG) received a single application of 0.5ml normal saline, via the intravenous route (IV), 48 hours after wound creation; and the Mesenchymal Stem Cells Dexamethasone group (MSCDG) received MSC transplantation at a concentration of 9x106 cells in a single IV application, 48 hours after wound creation. The surgical wounds of CG rats closed on average 14.75 days after creation and DG rats had wounds closed within 22 days; whereas, the surgical wounds of MSCDG rats were closed in 14 days. MSC infusion in dexamethasone-immunosuppressed patients contributed positively to epithelial healing in less time.

Abstract Background and Aims Primary membranous nephropathy (PMN) is the most common cause of nephrotic syndrome (NS) in adults. Rituximab a chimeric monoclonal anti-CD20 antibody has been supposed to eliminate autoantibody-producing B cells via direct signaling, complement-mediated cytotoxicity (CMC), and antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity (ADCC). According to the fact that a wide range of B lymphocytes may carry this marker, we aimed to identify which subset is more (or less) frequent in PMN patients and which one is more affected by rituximab administration. Method Three groups were enrolled in the present study. They included a healthy control group and two patient groups having the clinical, laboratory, and pathological diagnostic criteria of PMN, comprising either patients on standard treatment or patients on standard treatment plus rituximab. The latter group was studied just before receiving rituximab (pre-rituximab) and two months later (post rituximab). Peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) were isolated using Ficoll-hypaque (inno-train, Germany) gradient. Afterward, cells were adjusted to a concentration of 1 _ 106 cells/mL and stained with mouse antihuman CD19-Cy5-conjugated antibody (Cytognos, Spain), mouse antihuman CD24-PE-conjugated antibody (Cytognos, Spain), and mouse antihuman CD38-FITC-conjugated antibody (Cytognos, Spain). Flow cytometry performed by FACS Calibur (BDFacs Calibur Becton Dickinson, USA). Results The total lymphocyte percentage was higher in PMN patients receiving either standard treatment or rituximab than in healthy controls (standard-treatment vs. control: P value = 0.001, pre-rituximab vs. control: P value =0.001). In post-rituximab analysis, CD19+ cell count showed notable reduction (P value = 0.003) B CD19+CD24+CD38- cells, representing the memory B cell population, did not show any significant difference between healthy controls and patients. Furthermore, the count of these cells did not decrease significantly two months after rituximab administration. The subset of CD19+CD24-CD38+ B lymphocytes, a class of naïve/mature lymphocytes with normal function, was significantly higher in the control group than in standard treatment patients (P value = 0.01). However, no statistically significant difference was found in CD19+CD24-CD38+B lymphocytes neither between the rituximab and control groups nor between pre-rituximab and post-rituximab patients. Conclusion The number of regulatory B cells decreased in both standard treatment and rituximab-receiving PMN patients and the proportion of naïve/mature B-lymphocytes was lower in the former group. Moreover, the memory B cells count did not reduce significantly two months after rituximab administration. Hence, it might be the best choice to target the memory B cell subset in immunosuppressive therapy while avoiding the Breg or naïve/mature B lymphocyte depletion to obtain more favorable sustained outcomes.

This study aims to determine the effect of modern dressings on wound healing of grade 2 diabetes mellitus at Griya Utami Care Bali. The design used in the study was a real experiment with a one-group pre-post test approach. The results showed that the experimental group's average post value was 8.67, with a standard deviation of 2.024. In the control group, the average post value was 10.60, with a standard deviation of 2.874. Based on the results of statistical tests, it was found that the p-value was 0.042, meaning that there was a significant difference in the average post value between the experimental group and the control group. In conclusion, there is an effect of modern dressings on wound healing for grade 2 diabetes mellitus at Griya Utami care Bali. Keywords: Diabetes Mellitus, Grade 2 Diabetes Wounds, Modern Dressing

Episiotomy is one of the most common midwifery interventions method for preventing injuries to the pelvic floor during the delivery process. Traditional medicine has a special place in improving the quality of postpartum care. Sesame is one of the herbs with anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial and antioxidant activity.  This study was evaluate the effect of sesame ointment on episiotomy healing. Methods: This randomized control clinical trial was performed on 104 eligible women. The samples were block randomly assigned to one of the groups Intervention and control. Samples were used sesame and placebo ointment for epizootics from 4 hours after delivery for ten days every 8 hours. Clinical evaluation of episiotomy ulcer was performed 4 hours, 7 and 10 days after delivery with using REEDA tool. SPSS software version 16 was used for data analysis. P value less than 0.05 was considered significant. Results: The average of wound healing rate was 7 days after episiotomy in the intervention group 0.09 ± 0.29 and in the control group was 0.73 ± 0.44. Independent t-test showed that the two groups had a significant difference (p <0.001).Healing of the wound 10 days after episiotomy showed that the mean scores in the control group (0.4 ± 0.49) and in the intervention group (0.02 ± 0.13), healing in the intervention group significantly decreased from the control group (p <0.001). Conclusion: Sesame ointment can be used as a pain relief and accelerator for episiotomy healing.

AbstrakPenelitian ini bertujuan mengidentifikasi perbedaan keefektifan penyembuhan luka menggunakan balutan madu dan balutan normal salin-povidone iodine pada pasien trauma dengan luka terbuka yang dirawat di salah satu RS di Bukittinggi. Desain penelitian ini adalah kuasi eksperimen, non-equivalent control group dengan pre dan post-test. Sampel berjumlah 6 responden (3 responden untuk masing-masing kelompok intervensi madu serta normal salin-povidone iodine). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan tidak ada perbedaan bermakna pada rerata skor perkembangan proses penyembuhan luka antara sebelum dan sesudah intervensi perawatan luka dengan madu (P = 0.076) dan dengan normal salin-povidone iodine (P = 0,057). Rerata skor perkembangan penyembuhan luka terbuka setelah intervensi tidak berbeda secara signifikan (P = 0,797) antara kelompok intervensi dengan madu dengan kelompok kontrol. Namun, penurunan skor perkembangan proses penyembuhan luka pada balutan madu (11,52%) lebih besar 6,67% dibandingkan balutan normal salin-povidone iodine (4,85%). Perawatan luka dengan madu membuat responden tidak merasa nyeri, tidak terjadi perlengketan serta perdarahan saat membuka balutan ketika dibersihkan, sedangkan dengan normal salin-povidone iodine, responden merasakan sebaliknya. Hasil penelitian ini merekomendasikan penggunaan balutan madu untuk pasien dengan luka terbuka. AbstractThe aim of this study was to compare the effectiveness of honey dressing and normal salin-povidone iodine dressing in the open wound healing process at a hospital in Bukittinggi. This was a non-equivalent control group quasi experimental study with pre & post test. The samples of this study were 6 respondents (3 respondents in each intervention and control group). The finding from this study showed that there was no significant difference on the mean score of wound healing process before and after wound care intervention using honey dressing (P = 0.076), and normal saline-povidone iodine dressing (P = 0.057). There was also no significant difference on the mean score of wound healing process on traumatic open wound patient after intervention on the control group using normal saline-povidone iodine dressing and intervention group using honey dressing (P = 0,797) However, the wound healing score on the honey intervention group was 6,67% higher (11,52%) than on the wound using normal saline-povidone iodine dressing (4,85%). Unlike patients in the control group, patients using honey dressing were not complaining about pain and bleeding when change dressing. Therefore, the study recommended the honey application for open wound.

Objectives: Occupational exposure to chemicals causes a wide range of biological effects depending on the level and duration of exposure. The current study is intended to determine the differences in biochemical levels among garage workers compared with occupationally nonexposed participants in Harar town, eastern Ethiopia. Methods: A comparative cross-sectional study was conducted in Harar town, eastern Ethiopia. Thirty (30) garage workers were selected and compared with 30 age- and sex-matched control group of teachers and students. Demographic and occupational data were collected using a structured questionnaire by trained data collector. Biochemical levels were measured by automated clinical chemistry analyzer (Autolab 18, Boehringer-Mannheim Diagnostics, the United States). Data were analyzed using STATA Version 13. Results: All of the included garage workers were male. A statistically significant increase were found in alanine aminotransferase (35.60 ± 7.93 vs 19.17 ± 0.91 U/L; P value = 0.0440), aspartate aminotransferase (47.23 ± 4.89 vs 27.03 ± 1.13 U/L; P value = 0.0002), total protein (85.83 ± 1.16 vs 76.40 ± 0.86 g/l; P value < 0.0001), uric acid (7.34 ± 0.29 vs 5.19 ± 0.21 mg/dl; P value < 0.0001), glucose (85.13 ± 3.92 vs 75.60 ± 2.40 mg/dl; P value = 0.0425); total cholesterol (199.40 ± 13.11 vs 140.37 ± 3.81 mg/dl; P value = 0.0001) and triglyceride (143.40 ± 5.79 vs 110.60 ± 8.98 mg/dl; P value = 0.0033) in garage workers compared with control group. On the contrary, a statistically significant decrease were found in albumin (39.37 ± 1.78 vs 46.37 ± 0.56 g/l; P value = 0.0004) and urea (21.63 ± 1.04 vs 27.60 ± 1.69 mg/dl; P value = 0.0039) among garage workers compared with the control group. Conclusion: Our finding indicates that working in the garage changes most of the biochemical levels. Therefore, appropriate and effective safety measures need to be implemented to prevent possible chemical exposure during routine work.

The aim of this study is to explore the effect of topical application of Aloe vera on skin wound healing. Thirty-six male Sprague-Dawley rats weighing 150–200 grams were divided into four groups. All groups were anesthetized, shaved, and exposed to round full-thickness punch biopsy on the back: group I (control); group II (treated with 1% Aloe vera cream); group III (treated with 2% Aloe vera cream); and group IV (treated with madecassol®). The treatments were given once a day. Macroscopic and microscopic examination were observed at 5, 10, and 15 days after skin biopsy. Skin specimens were prepared for histopathological study using H&E stain and IHC stain against CD4+ and CD8+ lymphocytes. All the data were analyzed using SPSS16. The result showed that topical application of 1% and 2% Aloe vera cream significantly reduced the percentage of the wound, leucocytes infiltration, angiogenesis, and expression of CD8+ lymphocytes and increased the epidermal thickness and the expression of CD4+ lymphocytes (p ≤ 0,05). There was no significant difference in the number of fibroblasts in all groups. Topical application of 1% and 2% Aloe vera cream has wound healing potential via their ability to increase the ratio of CD4+/CD8+ lymphocytes in the wound area.
