BACKGROUND: In developing countries, construction is a largely manual job that imposes awkward postures on workers, thus facilitating a variety of musculoskeletal disorders. Ergonomic training is known as an effective way to reduce these disorders. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of ergonomic training intervention in reducing the ergonomic risk of concrete form workers. METHODS: This quasi-experimental study was carried out on 144 concrete form workers employed in the construction projects of Gonbad-e Kāvus, Iran, Iran. Data was collected using the Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire (at the pre-intervention stage) and the Rapid Entire Body Assessment (REBA) worksheet (at the pre- and post-intervention stages). Ergonomic training was provided via face-to-face educational meetings along with presenting informative pamphlets, which took place over 45 days duration of time. Data were analyzed by the use of SPSS software version 21, t-test and Wilcoxon test. Significant level was considered at P-value less than 0.05. RESULTS: Musculoskeletal disorders were observed in all limbs of the studied workers. The most prevalent disorders were the pain in the shoulder region of lift operators (86.1%) and the pain in the back area of mixer operators (77.8%). About 99.3% of all concrete form workers were exposed to a moderate level of ergonomic risk and needed posture correction. Pre- and post-training REBA scores showed a statistically significant difference (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: Although the ergonomic training did reduce the ergonomic risk of workers, because of its short duration, it failed to reduce this risk to an acceptable level. It is recommended to hold both theoretical and practical training sessions over longer periods of time.

Introduction: Musculoskeletal discomfort is one of the most important causes of occupational injury and disability. The aim of this study was to evaluate the risk factors of musculoskeletal disorders and ergonomic intervention in order to reduce them. Methods: This analytic-descriptive study was conducted on 116 employees of Bandar Abbas Zinc Production Company. The Nordic questionnaire and QEC method were used to collect data before and after the interventions. An intervention program was conducted to reduce the workers' load weight, change their work level height, job rotation, and training. Finally, the collected data were analyzed using SPSS 23. Results: During the last year, the highest frequency of musculoskeletal disorders were 65.52% in the lower limbs, 43.10% in the shoulder, and 43.10% in the knees. According to Cochran test, a significant difference was found between the discomfort before and after the intervention in the organs. Conclusion: The results revealed a significant reduction in musculoskeletal discomfort 3 months after the intervention. As a result, it can be deduced that integrated use of engineering and management interventions in a simple, practical, and cost-effective manner can reduce these diseases. Furthermore, continuous monitoring over appropriate implementation of these interventions over a long period of time along with commitment of the management and employee participation may  reduce the musculoskeletal disorders.

Non-communicable disease (NCD) screening training aims to provide skills in determining a person's health condition based on body mass index (BMI) and simple blood tests. Health cadres who have been equipped with the skills to determine BMI and simple blood tests can then detect NCD in the community independently. Nutrition training aims to provide skills in calculating nutritional adequacy from a daily menu. Educational videos on simple blood tests were made to replace hands-on training due to limitations of the covid19 protocol. Before and after training, pre and posttest were carried out. The training was attended by 15 health cadres in Gamping Kidul Village, Ambarketawang, Gamping, Sleman, Yogyakarta. The average score before training was 67.14, increasing to 73.57 thereafter. Paired T-test analysis showed no significant difference in pre and posttest scores (p = 0.076). After receiving the training, it is hoped that health cadres can carry out screening independently around their respective homes, so that early detection of NCD in the community can take place, then prevention can be carried out so that it does not become a fatal complication. It was concluded that the training could improve health cadres' understanding of PTM screening, prevention and calculating a balanced nutritious diet but not significant.
