The main goal of this research was to determine the differences in nutritional levels between sixth grade female students from Central, Northern and Southern region of Montenegro. The sample consisted of 43 girls aged 11- 12 years, who were divided into 3 subsamples, according to the criterion of place of residence. The following variables were measured: body height, body weight, and waist circumference. Level of nutrition was calculated using two indices body mass index and waist-to-height ratio index, which are presented numerically and in percentages. Basic central and dispersion parameters were calculated for each variable. Differences in nutrition levels between regions were calculated by the Chi square test. According to the results, female students from the Northern region are more obese than the other two regions. Also, not too worrying percentages of obese children have been obtained, but we should definitely work on its prevention and prevention of its occurrence.

This study presents an attitude of female students studying B.Ed. third year towards physical education and sports within Kathmandu valley. Initially, it was hypothesized that there is no significance difference in attitude of physical education and sports among female students of different campuses. From these 6 campuses, 184 female students were randomly selected. A five-point Likert-type scale was applied for data collection from the selected students who studied in B.Ed. third year. Altogether five opinion statements were used for data collection. It was found that all respondents showed positive attitudes towards physical education and sports. In order to test whether there is significant interdependence in score among the respondents in different perspectives. The chi-square test score was applied as statistical test at the 0.05 level of significance. The chi-test under contingency table: independent of opinion among the respondent, if (χ2>α=0.05 in different degree of freedom) and independent if (χ2≤ α=0.05 in different degree of freedom). For the measurement of attitude for physical education and sports,it has enough evidence in the data to accept alternatives hypothesis; there is relation or interdependence of attitude towards physical education and sports among the respondents. Because, the score is very high among the response of respondent. The study suggests that the university teacher must be accountable to construct professional environment.

Objective. To estimate the prevalence of Metabolic Syndrome (MS), its components and its association with obesity and cardiovascular risk in school age children. Materials and methods. A cross-sectional study of 1,017 children from 6 to 12 years of age. Anthropometric information, blood pressure, glucose, insulin, cholesterol, HDLc, LDLc and triglycerides were collected. The presence of MS and its components were determined by criteria of Cook et. al. (2003), modified for children and adolescents. In the analysis, the children were grouped by aged group of 6 to 9 and 10 to 12 years. The association between MS, obesity and cardiovascular risk was estimated using Student’s t-test and Mann-Whitney U test, Chi-square test and logistic regression. Results. The MS was present with 54.6% in obese children. Obesity was the characteristic of greater association to suffer from MS with an OR=8.62 p<0.001. Conclusions. MS is high among children with obesity, and is mostly associated with insulin resistance and atherogenic risk.

OBJECTIVE: To analyze the incidence of overweight/obesity and associated factors in children aged six years or less during a two-year follow-up. METHODS: This longitudinal cohort study followed 242 preschoolers from Florianópolis, Santa Catarina, from 2008 to 2010. The outcome was overweight/obesity (Z-score >+2) measured by accumulated incidence. The Chi-square test measured the differences between the study factors. The association between overweight/obesity and associated factors was analyzed by adjusted and crude rate ratios. RESULTS: Nine (4.00%) of the 222 non-overweight/obese children in 2008 were overweight/obese in 2010, indicating an accumulated incidence of overweight/obesity of 4.05% (1.4-6.7). The study accumulated incidence of overweight/obesity was 20.25/year/1000, similar to the incidence density of 20.65/year/1000. CONCLUSION: After adjustment, none of the study factors were associated with overweight/obesity. However, the lack of studies that investigate the incidence of overweight and obesity in preschoolers calls for longitudinal studies with larger samples that analyze not only the incidence of overweight/obesity but also other factors, such as the influence of parents' nutritional status on their offspring's nutritional status.

Abstract The aim of this study was to estimate the prevalence of underweight among older adults according to socio-demographic characteristics in different regions of Brazil as well as determine associated contextual and individual factors. Cross-sectional population-based study with older adults (≥ 65 years) interviewed by telephone survey in 2014. The body mass index was calculated based on weight and height. Associations were determined using Pearson’s chi-square test, considering a 5% significance level. Adjusted prevalence ratios were estimated using multilevel Poisson regression. Mean age was 73.3 years and the prevalence of underweight was 15.6% (95%CI: 14.1-17.1%). Higher prevalence rates of underweight were found among women, individuals aged ≥ 80 years, smokers and those who reported the regular consumption of beans. The prevalence rate of underweight was lower among those who reported abusive alcohol intake and those with a medical diagnosis of hypertension. The northern region of the country had the highest prevalence of underweight after adjusting for associated individual factors. The findings demonstrate the subgroups with higher prevalence rates of underweight that demand greater attention from the health services in terms of recovering of an adequate nutritional status.
