This study is devoted to the consideration of the issues of teaching English to adult learners. It is noted that teaching English to adults today is in great demand, due to the world integration aspira-tions of our country, which cannot be realized when the majority of the population does not have foreign language speech skills and abilities for free partici-pation in international communication. However, adult education differs significantly from the specif-ics of teaching a foreign language to schoolchildren and students, which provokes a number of prob-lems. These problems impede the acquisition of English by adults, which, as a rule, they need for professional activities that involve the implementa-tion of foreign language communication. The analy-sis carried out in this study helped to identify the problems that need to be overcome to build an ef-fective system of teaching English to adults. In addi-tion, a number of psychological and pedagogical conditions that contribute to the effective teaching of the English language to adults and the formation of their foreign language communicative compe-tence were formulated.

The study on the basis of an empirical research ex-amines the impact of consumer involvement in the category of goods or services, as well as consumer competence on the perception of trademarks simi-larity. The sample of the study was randomly divided into a control group and an experimental group. In the control group, respondents were presented with pairs of obviously dissimilar trademarks, and in the experimental group – pairs of obviously similar ones. The method of data analysis was correlation analysis, the results of which indicate that the over-all influence of factors of involvement and compe-tence, which was found in the study, is very small. The results of the study on the whole allow to state the limited influence of factors of consumer in-volvement and competence on the probability of trademarks confusion – both directly and through the identification of producers. However, at the same time, the very weak influence of involvement and the lack of competence influence on the confu-sion probability found in the study do not mean that these factors do not actually have a strong influence on the confusion of trademarks in the minds of con-sumers. The absence of a statistical relationship may be an impetus for further refining the method-ology and rechecking of the hypothesis in subse-quent empirical studies.

The notion of interculturality has occupied the entire field of reflection on culture in the didactics of languages and cultures during the past decades. Unduly, because intercultural competence is in reality only one of the components of cultural competence. Pluricultural compe-tence, for example, was introduced in the years 2000-2001 in the Com-mon European Framework of Reference for Languages: Learning, teach-ing, assessment (Council of Europe, 2001), but the other components that preceded it during the evolution of the discipline – the transcul-tural and metacultural components – are just as essential. Also, a new « co-cultural » component had to be mobilized later in the elaboration of the action-oriented approach which is outlined in this document. In the epistemological framework of the complex didactics of languages-cultures, which are as attentive to the diversity of audiences and the objectives and environments of learning and teaching processes, as to the challenges of social action training, all these components must now be simultaneously taken into account.

The article highlights the results of the current study of the modern interpretation of the concept of "competence" in relation to the higher civil service corps. It is established that in Ukraine the notion of "competence" is defined as the combination of knowledge, skills, and practical skills, personality qualities or the ability of a person to use special knowledge, skills and abilities and personal qualities within the limits of powers determined. At the same time, there is a mismatch between the competences of the mas-ter's level of higher education and the requirements for persons who are applying for the post of senior civil service, as well as these requirements and key indicators of the evalua-tion of the results of the service activity. International standards indicate that the modern interpretation of the concept of "compe-tence" is based on the activity approach: as demonstrated the ability to apply in practice that knowledge and skills, which affect the quality and in a manner that will lead to quality improvement. That is, the competence of employees, in particular, the senior civil service, should be demonstrated during their activities on the positions and contribute to the im-provement of the quality of public administration. It is proved that further research should relate to the activity approach in applying the concept of "competence" and scientifically grounded proposals as to the definition of the components of competence of senior civil service officials and the criteria for evaluating their activities.

Purpose: Both facial appearance and behaviors could respectively contribute to impression formation towards an indi- vidual. However, when there is congruence between information decoded from facial appearance and behaviors which may determine impression in different ways, effect of both factors will be altered. This study aimed to investigate the discrepancy between the information carried by the face, i.e. facial trustworthiness and social description, and how these two factors influence individuals’ attitude towards a newly-met person, and their judgment with regard to warmth and competence. Methodology: An experiment was conducted, asking participants to rate their impression in terms of warmth and compe- tence towards an individual whose facial appearance was manipulated either to be trustworthy or untrustworthy, and whose behavior was described in a short vignette. Main Findings: The results indicated that social description had a significant influence on both warmth and competence impressions. Facial trustworthiness had no effect. It was also discovered that competence was found to be generally judged more positive than warmth, which implied judgment of warmth was made more reservedly. Implications: The study would serve as an antecedent to further investigation on managing people’s impression towards oneself, in which such management aids in developing and maintaining positive personal relationship amongst human beings. The study will demonstrate a new vision to the researchers in cognition and perception on exploring approaches to define the mechanism involved in impression formation or attitude. Novelty: Researchers trust that currently there is still no related research that would determine the direction and strength of effect from facial trustworthiness and social description.

In this article, we inquire into the role played by language and core, politicized concepts in inter-professional coordination around expert work in transition. Empirically, we analyze how engineers and landscape architects cooperate around and compete for work related to rainwater management and climate adaptation in cities. We draw on qualitative empirical material, including around 30 in-terviews with involved professionals, focusing on the significance ascribed to the concept of "LAR", local drainage of rainwater, in the wider climate adaptation field since the 1990s. Using Andrew Abbott's (1988, 2005) theory of professions, we show how the story of LAR embodies a wider dynamic of 'proto-jurisdictional' emergence, with new professional roles and languages. Ab-bott places control over work tasks center stage in analyzing professional relations; and this includes 'ecological' considerations for how professions relate to political and academic institutions. On this basis, we show how professional actors use the specific LAR concept as a way of claiming compe-tence and forge alliances with others in the climate adaptation field. In reference to Abbott's notion of the 'knowledge systems' of professions, the implication we draw is that we need to understand professional languages in relation to broader jurisdictional struggles and translations between politi-cal and academic discourses.

The article analyzed regulatory documents of Ukraine, which reg- ulate the issues of determining the professional qualification requirements for employees, and find out that these documents establish requirements that are non-systemic and can be applied to any managerial position. The author propos- es, taking into account the tendencies of the development of the public service system, to identify seven types of competencies of public servants: political, legal, economic, social, psychological, managerial, moral and ethical. Political compe- tence and moral legitimacy implies an understanding of the nature of the basic so- cial functions and organizational structure of the modern state, the principles and forms of democracy, the nature of the interaction between different branches of government, the role of political parties in the life of society. Legal (legal) compe- tence of civil servants is formed in the course of basic vocational training, which relates to the main branches of law and is based on the skills of its professional application in various spheres of activity. Economic competence is differentiated depending on the specialization of civil servants and within the framework of a general for all level should include an assessment of the ability to apply a com- parative analysis of key economic concepts. Sociological competence is related to the awareness of civil servants of the concept of the social structure of modern so- ciety, its dynamics and its impact on political and socio-economic processes. Psy- chological competence is the basis for effective communication contacts, when it is necessary to understand people, their interests, motives and intentions, to find an individual approach to them. Management competence includes knowledge of management methods, value-orientation regulation, integrated management of labor motivation, development of creative potential, etc.
