Introduction: The role of the immune and inflammatory pathways in patients with atherosclerosis is important but not complete understood. The objective of this study was to evaluate if patients with coronary atherosclerosis have higher concentrations of interleukins 17 A and 22 when compared to patients without carotid atherosclerosis. Hypothesis: There are higher concentrations of interleukins 17 A and 22 in patients with coronary artery disease than in patients without carotid disease Methods: This is a cross-sectional, prospective, analytical study, conducted from August to December 2015, that enrolled 60 patients. We included 30 patients with stable CAD with coronary stenosis ≥ 50% according to current coronary angiography and 30 patients with chronic infectious parasitic disease without carotid atherosclerosis according to intimal medial thickness. Interleukins (IL) were evaluated in serum of patients. IL concentrations were expressed in pg / ml and the detectable minimum values of interleukins were: 17A = 15.62 pg/ml and 22 = 7.81 pg/ml. Descriptive and analytical statistical analyzes were performed. The Shapiro-Wilk normality test was applied to verify the normality of the data. Statistical tests were used to compare the variables and p-value < 0.05 was significant Results: There were 18 men and 12 women in the group of patients with coronary disease and 14 men and 16 patients without carotid disease. The main CAD risk factors (in the group of patients with coronary atherosclerosis) were: Hypertension 63%, Diabetes Mellitus 40%, dyslipidemia 33%, smoking 23%. The serum concentrations of interleukins 17A showed: patients with coronary atherosclerosis = 15.62 pg/ml vs patients without carotid atherosclerosis = 15.62 pg/ml. Serum concentrations of interleukins 22 showed: patients with coronary atherosclerosis = 7.81 pg/ml vs patients without carotid atherosclerosis = 7.81 pg/ml. Conclusions: Interleukin 17 and 22 concentrations were low in both groups of patients and there were no differences between patients with coronary atherosclerosis and no carotid atherosclerosis. Therefore, it is possible that these interleukins measured may not identify who has coronary atherosclerosis and who does not have carotid atherosclerosis.

Introduction: Interleukin L-17 is produced by Th 17 cells and other cells. There is a debate if IL 17 is atherogenic or atheroprotective. The true role of this interleukin during the development and progression of the coronary artery disease is not known. Objective: To evaluate if there are differences between the IL17 A serum levels according to clinical presentation of the coronary artery disease. Methods: This is a cross sectional study which enrolled 101 patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS), 100 patients with chronic coronary syndrome (CCS) and 100 healthy volunteers. Blood samples were taken from patients ( at admission) and controls to analysis the level of IL17A. Clinical characteristics were collected through questionnaires. This research was approved by ethical committee. Results: Comparisons of the clinical characteristics between patients with ACS and CCS revealed: mean age ( 62 ± 12.4 vs 63.3 ± 9.8, p = 0.4 ), male (63.4% vs 58%, p = 0.4) hypertension (85.1% vs 79%, p = 0.1) , disyipidemia (48% vs 31%, p =0.01), Diabetes Mellitus (47.5% vs 41%, p = 0.3), previous myocardial infarction (57.4% vs 40%, p = 0,01), smoking (29.7% vs 38%, p = 1). The peripheral concentrations of IL17A according to ACS, CCS and controls were: 5.36 ± 8.83 vs 6.69 ± 17.92 vs 6.26 ± 11.13, p = 0.6. Besides, the comparison between ACS and CCS showed: 5.36 ± 8.83 vs 6.69 ± 17.92, p = 0.3. Conclusion: The main finding os this study was that the circulating IL 17 concentrations were similar in patients with ACS, CCS and healthy volunteers). Besides, there was no difference between patients with ACS and CCS. Therefore, our hypothesis is that in patients with ACS and CCS the circulating IL 17 A concentrations are low or undetectable.

Introduction: Stroke risk factors are related to the circumstances of a person's health status, namely hypercholesterolemia (excess cholesterol levels) and hypertension (high blood pressure). Methods: A correlative descriptive analytic observational study using cross sectional approach. The number of samples taken is as many as 62 people using the Slovinformula..Statistical analysis uses Sperman Rank Test and Linear regression test. Results: The results of this study indicate that the total cholesterol level of patients from 62 samples found that normal cholesterol levels amounted to 29 people (46.8%) consisting of 12 people (19.4%) with SH and 17 people ( 27.4%) with SNH and high cholesterol levels totaling 33 people (53.2%) divided into 7 people (11.3%) with SH and 26 people (42%) with SNH. There is a significant correlation between blood cholesterol levels with stroke incidence in statistical tests with p value 0,004 (p<0,05), there is a significant correlation between hypertension and stroke events withp value 0,031(p<0,05)there is no significant correlation between blood cholesterol levels and hypertension in statistical tests withp value 0,129 (p>0,05) and by using Linear regression test obtained that the correlation between blood cholesterol levels with a value of mean value hypertension  0.453 and mean 0.994 so that the most dominant with the incidence of stroke was hypertension. Conclusions: Have nothing to do with hypertension, it can be concluded here that stroke is caused by hypertension. The Suggestion is hypertension’s not only caused by cholesterol levels but there are other triggers that cause it.
